It wasn't documented on the wiki.
It is in the mailing list archives.

Obviously the people in the UK are much better behaved drivers, going in
circles round little painted circles on the road.

Drivers here need a big thing that goes bump or rips the undercarriage off
their expensive Italian coupe before they drive around it.

My current version of mapping

Those little concrete circles
mini_roundabout
direction=clockwise

the medium size I draw out if one or more of the roads is dual carriageway,
because it is easier to draw it.
Put in four or eight points evenly, ask josm to make a circle of them and then
add other required points, check the direction of the segments.

big roundabouts (South Hay, Goolgowi) which are big enough for a road train to
drive round comfortably need lots of points, and on and off ramps

just a suggestion, but if its a really tiny roundabout like those concrete
ones everywhere, just make the node mini_roundabout. It's a lot easier.

 Hi everyone

What is the page of the wiki (if any) that runs me through using JOSM to
add roads, roundabouts and how to link things correctly to existing
ways? I know to download from OSM and then upload my changes, which I've
so far only done to fix missing info e.g. I've named Elizabeth Lane in
Randwick. So I think I know how to update/fix data for existing ways.

Now I want to add the streets and service roads near work and connect
 them Badgdally Road Campbelltown.

I want to add the roundabouts on Blaxland Road and others

Lastly I want to mark up the divided roads in the area e.g. Blaxland
 Road place traffic lights

Any easy way to learn this?

Thanks Stuart

Yes I've seen the mini_roundabout and will be looking at it for the
small slightly raised suburban models around the eastern suburbs of Sydney.

In this case however there are two honking huge roundabouts where the
road widens and service ways come in from all angles. They aren't neatly
circular either.

Paul

Re: [talk-au] New Mapper Sydney Campbelltown Randwick Help: Hi and Help?

2008-02-13 Thread Russell Lang
I would suggest an additional constraint, that it be possible for a truck
or bus to drive over the roundabout. I know one small roundabout near a
primary school, where it is common for a bus to put two wheels over the
roundabout. So mini_roundabout could be used for a small roundabout that
is paved in the middle, but should not be used for one that has a garden
or keep left sign posts in the middle. This would produce routing
information for larger vehicles that is consistent with the UK.

So where should this be documented?
  http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Australian_Roads_Tagging
Anybody got a link to the original discussion? (I only recently joined
the list)

There was a discussion on talk-au some months ago about the use of
 mini_rounabout in
Australia. From memory the informal otcome of this was that
 mini_roundabout
 coud be used

I don't know if this was ever documented however.

any case, a mini roundabout can be driven over by a truck (lorry).
