You'd probably get more accurate answers by asking on the Nominatim list.

AFAIK it uses Codepoint Open, but I have no idea if this gets refreshed
regularly, see
https://github.com/openstreetmap/Nominatim/blob/master/data/gb_postcode_table.sql
.

Can anyone tell me where Nominatim gets its data from for a postcode
search, and how often it's updated?

I assume it gets it from the map, in which case it gets updated when
mappers update it, which, for many places means that they have never
been provided.

The problem with postcodes is that they are owned by Royal Mail, who
consider them a valuable piece of intellectual property. Post codes get
entered into OSM based on post code centroid information that is release
through OS with a suitable sub-licence. As the result of extracting
post codes from signs on building, and similar sources, and as a result
of taking them from certain database with an open licence, where the
postcodes were contributed by the operators of the premises, in
particular, the Food Standards Agency's Food Hygiene Rating System database.

As such, it is very difficult to get reliable post codes for domestic
premises, as it would basically require a house to house survey.

Re: [Talk-GB] Quarterly project: Petrol stations

2018-01-10 Thread Philip Barnes
It is something that will need looking at, can someone look at the Derby or
London sites. The press releases mention 30 minutes and wifi which is certainly
not compatible with a forecourt.

Shell may see the site as a single object but in OSM terms it is several. Fuel,
shop, parking etc.

The import missed many MSA filling stations due to seeing them as a single
object whilst in OSM terms they are two. The filling stations for cars and
trucks at Telford are separated by a road.

A lot of industry players are working on forecourt style charging using
circa 5minute high power chargers. See for example the recent shell
announcement.

When this happens then the ev charging points may look very similar to a
regular petrol station. We don't map individual petrol pumps so probably
need something suitable here too.

2018-01-10 Thread Ed Loach
It looks like amenity=charging_station is documented in the wiki as only for
nodes. As they don’t let you use your mobile phones or jump start cars on
petrol station forecourts, I suspect that any charging stations will be
positioned far enough from the pumps area that a separate node to indicate the
location makes sense. Most that I’ve seen so far have been in parking areas
(supermarkets, Center Parcs, etc.)

Hi all,

Just to let you know that I have re-set up the TagInfo scripts that get daily
data about our quarterly projects. I hadn't realised that it had stopped some
time in mid-2017 so assume not many people use this.

As a reminder, it is a script that collects data from TagInfo UK on a daily
basis and saves it to a google spreadsheet. I have set it up to track
amenity=fuel for this quarterly project:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1G9KXfp4Ho3fVROO9MxotcYTydl9CEXB_fi5ko2pM5Kc/edit?usp=sharing

Do we want one as well for amenity=charging_station? I'm personally not sure as
it looks like in the future there will be a roll out of EV super-chargers at
existing amenity=fuel sites rather than at stand-alone charging facilities.

p.s. How do I indicate that a petrol station also has EV charging capability?
The wiki on fuels [1] doesn't allow for this and only mentions electricity in
the case of BBQs!
