Re: [Talk-GB] Churchyard gate/shelter
In particular, the one in Mapperley (Derbyshire) is also a war memorial, and sadly someone pinched the gates around Christmas. Re: [Talk-GB] Churchyard gate/shelter
There is some usage of building=lychgate. Am thinking a gate where the building intersects the path and a short section of tunnel=building_passage. Re: [Talk-GB] Churchyard gate/shelter
Thanks all. In the absence of a an official barrier=lych_gate tag why not use *both* barrier=gate and building=shelter tags, which would describe it? Well, a barrier is a Point, and a building is an Area - the iD editor doesn't let you combine them. This is not the first time I've been confused by this distinction. It seems to me that a lot of things which are nominally points, could just as easily be areas/buildings if you zoom in far enough when editing. For example a telephone kiosk, especially one now used as a village library. Also pylons, masts, etc., which can occupy a considerable area at ground level. In this case I have now created two separate objects - a building as a weather_shelter, with description=lych_gate. And inside it a separate point as barrier = gate on the public right of way (foot path) which runs through it. Thanks. HI Martin, In the absence of a an official barrier=lych_gate tag why not use *both* barrier=gate and building=shelter tags, which would describe it? Re: [Talk-GB] Churchyard gate/shelter
Hi "Lych gate" is the general name for these things. I don't know a good tag for it, but there are 62 barrier=lych_gate out there! https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/search?q=lych#values Best Dan 2018-08-22 15:06 GMT+01:00 Martin Wynne : > What is the correct tagging for this type of ornate gate often seen at > churchyards? > > https://goo.gl/maps/ffu8iQkbhw52 > > (I'm not mapping from Google, I walked through it yesterday.) > > I've tried barrier=gate and building=shelter, but neither alone seems to > adequately describe it. building=gatehouse seems far too grand. > > Thanks. > > Martin. > > ___ > Talk-GB mailing list > Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org > https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb ___ Talk-GB mailing list Talk-GB@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-gb
[Talk-GB] Churchyard gate/shelter
What is the correct tagging for this type of ornate gate often seen at churchyards? https://goo.gl/maps/ffu8iQkbhw52 (I'm not mapping from Google, I walked through it yesterday.) I've tried barrier=gate and building=shelter, but neither alone seems to adequately describe it. building=gatehouse seems far too grand. Thanks.
