Re: [Talk-us] Parks in the USA, leisure=park, park:type
I like this better than calling a state park a national park. Tagging them state parks with the national park tag is an abstract concept that will just result in confusion. If the consensus is to tag them the same then I suggest depracting the national park tag and coming up with something else so it isn't confusing. For county parks: many of these are small parks that are similar to a usual urban park, with gardens, playgrounds, sports fields etc, and can be tagged with leisure=park. Others are natural areas or nature reserves, and could use boundary=protected_area + protect_class=5 + protection_title="County Park". State and National Forests, which are used for logging and grazing as well as recreation, can be tagged as: boundary=protected_area + protect_class=6 + protection_title="National Forest" or "State Forest". These features will all be rendered the same as boundary=national_park and leisure=nature_reserve in many renderings styles, but it's nice to be a little more specific. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
Re: [Talk-us] Ashuwillticook Rail Trail in Massachusetts
Thanks, Kevin. I believe it will be sorted in a month, but you never know. Great to have a dedicated mapper like you so willing to help, I will mention it if isn't sorted by then. Kerry Irons (ACA volunteer) believes the AASHTO ballot process will be around "month's end" so that sketches a date for OSM / OCM to contain / display a completed route. We'll get there, I think we're almost there. Steve ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

North Adams is about an hour-and-a-half drive from here. If someone convinces me it's important enough, I might be able to make time this summer to head over there and scout it out. There's a big stretch of the Taconic Crest Trail north of Route 2 that remains unmapped, so that would be another project while I'm over there. (Or I could just not worry about other mapping and go climb Mount Greylock - I haven't been up there in years.) Steve, ping me in a month or so if it's not sorted by then. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

I appreciate it! I'm now/soon scouring more aerial/satellite imagery before I MIGHT (with trepidation) enter this. I do think it would be better if locals who are more certain about this were to enter it. Though if MassDOT asserts a USBR 7 re-route through here, "it must exist." (Reported lengths 11.2+1.2=12.2 doesn't quite add up exactly either?) (I'm at the coastal urban near end of Mass, No.Adams is far end, not heading that way soon alas.) // Bill in Boston ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
