slow TB due to extreme fragmentation of message base
Hello Tbbeta, Probably others experience this too, is there maybe a way around it: After using TB for quite a while, the TBB-Files of my main folders (e.g. INBOX) become extremely fragmented. The Windows defragmentation tool shows that they consist of several thousand fragments. Windows may not even be able to defragment them correctly (depending on the partition), and even if it does, it will leave thousands of small fragments of free space on the disc, so that the next big file you copy to that partition will be split in many many fragments again. The reason, of course, is that TB keeps each folder in a file, which gets a little bigger for every new message in the folder. What happens after a while is that TB becomes slow: When I change the folder, I often have to wait some seconds for the message list to appear. Can anything be done about this? Would it be possible, for example, to not enlarge the TBB file for every single new message, but for, say, steps of 100 MB? Once these 100 MB get filled with messages, the file would be enlarged by another 100 MB. This way there would only be one new fragment for every 100 MB, not for every message. -- Best regards, Carsten Current beta is 4.2.7.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I figured out that if I uncheck the Cached Exchange mode from the profile I am using with TB, it downloads the emails. All of it again. I dont want to delete them from the server, sometimes I need online acces to them. Ok, it downloads all (or actually not all of them, strange), I delete the dupes and work with it. It seems to be ok. Re: MAPI, Exchange
The Bat! has little control over MAPI since it uses high-level API of Exchange by calling various DLL calls. This API does everything by itself, and leaves almost no control for The Bat! This is my problem: it worked ok before. I started Outlook, used the Calendar, after it TB does not work if I use Cached transfer mode in the profile, and downloads all mails if I uncheck that box. This was observed at some of my users as well. Sometimes, suddenly, TB changed in regard how it handled Exchange. But I could not tell them anything as neither I nor them could connect it to some change in their or my system. My point here is that no DLL has changed. I checked my System32 dir and the DLL is the one that should be there and what I had for a while. Restarted my PC, no change. So, it seems to be impossible to work with Exchange anymore... It is easy for you to test: setup to use TB with MAPI. Then quit, start Outlook. Quit Outlook. Start TB. It does not work anymore like it did before. You can check the exact communication between TB and the API and figure out the problem here. Sooner or later somebody at TBBETA and your users will have this problem. It is a timebomb bug. Filter problem
Hello all , I have a filter that I activate manually. It has worked for at least 2 years on the currently highlighted message. In this version it not only acts on the message that is highlighted, but on the one above it as well. (As if you held the combination of keys too long) This filter exports the message to a text file and has two sub-filters. The first creates an automatic reply and the second moves the original message to a different folder. In order to test this I created a new filter. I did it one step at a time. Export step - Resulted in the same message being exported twice instead of just once. Automatic Reply - Same result as above with 2 messages being sent to the same address. Move to a different folder - Resulted in the original scenario. The current message and the previous message are both exported, two replies to the two messages and 2 messages moved. This is extremely odd and very dangerous. I have copied my newly created filter below. It should work with the only modification needed being a to the folder the files are moved to. Try out on some test messages. By removing the check mark from step 3 you should be able to see the other result I was getting as well. TB!
