Do you have the identical fonts on those two machines? Compare a
search through all directories, not just the Windows\Fonts
 directory.
I copied version 5 into xp font file and fixed the problem.
the problem is with the font

So, Dwight sent me that font. It is different from mine. Now that I removed the
old and installed
the new, I dont even have the squares. I have an empty HTML mail body,
also the Control Panel, Fonts, Estrenga... does not show any fonts...
See attach. Strange..

Ok, so summarizing: my original Estre.ttf is 79 744 bytes. Results in
squares. The one that Dwight sent me and works at him is 110 436

Actually, I think (in this case) we (that don't see letters, only boxes and
digits) are the only ones where things work as they are supposed
to work.

If someone is using a font that does not contain letters, (but he/she does not
see it because the program he is writing in (or a setup in his machine)
substitutes the empty spaces in the font with the letters that would be in
that position if there were,) he is the one that is causing the problem.
Not TB!, nor we.

 it does contain letters.

There is a slight problem here: if I go to

and check out this font, specifically the numbers (as the letters show
squares at me) they are different from the one you attached. Check
e.g. 1 or 4. They have... h feet?

I believe this is unrelated, as it has to do with the font you have
set for the headers.

I would point you to the right direction, but the settings for the
fonts for each part of TB! are spead all over the interface, there is
no central menu item. I cannot find any more where I set the font for
the headers, and the menu navigator doesn't help either. All I can say
is that his name renders correctly over here, under XP.

Jernej's surname does render here beautifully in the preview pane.
However, the quoted material in my reply shows only boxes. I do have the
Open Type version of Estrangelo Edessa on my system, but it is not
installed.

I don't understand how EEdessa could be related to the problem as it
is not an alphabetic font. It only consists of numbers and some
numerically-related symbols, so boxes would be shown where no values
were designed. Check out the character map in charmap.exe or download
The Font Thing where you can see exactly the values contained in the
particular font.

The Font Thing is a great little program which is still offered by the
author and is free of charge. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~scef/tft.html

I've just changed the font for quoted material in TB! to Times New
Roman (from Trebuchet) and Jernej's name is now displayed properly.

I guess the answer to the problem should be that a complete font, such
as Arial or Times New Roman, should be used whenever international
characters are likely to be encountered.

EC Probably with Thai Char Set. @Thomas: what is your standard char set?

Courier New. But that is irrelvant, as it was an HTML message. I just
checked, and I do have Estrangelo Edessa on my computer.

I believe it is a matter of whether the font is available.

I've got the Estrangelo Edessa font on my system, so i guess it's
something that Vista installs per default. It says it's an Opentype
font, whatever that may be.
I've got no fancy charsets installed either.
