Complicated Filter?

2004-11-25 Thread Dave Thomas
Hi there

I am sure this is possible but I have given up trying. Our mail
server generates messages that it thinks are Spam and prefixes the
subject with the heading Probably Spam. In most cases this is not the
case.I would like to extract these from my normal mail and put
them into a Probably Spam folder - this much I have obviously easily
achieved. Now comes the difficult part for me, I would like to
copy the message to another folder called Send Probably Spam and change the
Subject to nonspam and the the recipient to be a a specific email
address on our mail server. Again I have been able to do this if I get the
message put into the Outbox, but I would like to check the message
before sending it hence wanting to put it in a draft folder first.

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Erm, can you explain the why of this action so we can get a clearer
picture of what the outcome should be? I can only guess that your mail
server adds messages that were falsely classified as probably spam to a
whitelist if you return them with the nonspam subject... ?

To create/reply/forward/redirect the message (or a new message), the
sorting office provides that functionality (in the actions tab). When you
select to create a new message (for example) you can specify a new subject
with the template. (in the style %SUBJECT=%SUBJECT=nonspam if I
understood correctly what you want to do).

Yes 1 of the problems, but just remove the X-Mailer header from messages
by Options | Preferences un-select 'Use X-Mailer in messages'.

IIRC some TBUDL'ers were being banned because of the IP address their
messages originated. My memory tells me that Marck was one of them and
the ISP was AOL.

Re: problem with TB when switching my XP user account to Limited,

2004-11-25 Thread Raymund Thomas Tump
Hi Jurgen,

I want to switch my normal user accounts (two) from admin to
limited, and I can't get TB to function.

Do both use the same message base?

First error was this one (TB didn't even start):
Failed to create working directory C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Mail

On installation TB asks for the folder, best to choose is %AppData% as
that means that the mail databases will be found in Documents
Settings\User\Application Data

 Error:
Coult not store message C:Documents settings\User\Local
 Settings\Temp\bat\1c.temp

Hmmh. Which user? The first or the second?

Where and what do I have to change so that TB can work with the temp files
 again?

You should have a look for the security settings of that folder.
Normally the logged on user should be able to access his/her temporary
files.

To change the security settings, right click on the folder and click
on security. If there is none, you don't use NTFS and I have no clue
what's going wrong...

TB! works here as normal user, as it always did. I only started it as
administrator to set the path and created a dummy account for it.

Maybe your better off if you backup and restore to the two user
accounts.

yes, first it was the the TB! program folder and then I moved it to the Shared
Documents.

 Error:

The first one. Mine. The second one wasn't even active at that time.

I did and I can see options for making the folder private or to make it shared.
nothing of that is clicked. I guess it's not NTFS.

yeah I guess that's the only thing. I think I will wait until the next official
version of TB comes out, with the encryption and stuff, I wanted to do a fresh
install then anyway...

Re: Can't add words to spelling list.

Hi

On Tuesday, 23 November, 2004, at 8:33:34 PM, Dan Grunberg wrote:

I used a command line utility called CACLS to edit permissions.

Will that work in XP Home?

Yes.

If it will, how do you use it?

*
Please note I do not claim to be an expert. You follow my
suggestions at your own risk.
*

Open a command window. (Start menu Run cmd)

Change the directory by typing (without the quotes)
cd C:\Program Files\The Bat! (assuming that's where you have
installed it)

Type (without quotes) cacls *.* /t /e /g Users:f

Just typing cacls without all the switches should bring up a
list of what they do, or you could google for it.

Alternatively, copy the speller directory to somewhere the user
does have write permission, such as C:\Documents and
Settings\Your_User_Name\Application Data\The Bat! and tell TB to
 look there.

If I go this route, how should I tell TB to look there?

Method 1: In a New Message window, Spell Checker
Dictionaries... Add File. Then browse to where you've copied the
files to and click open.

This will add entries to the file list at Spell Checker
Dictionaries... File:. You can remove the extras from the list
with the remove button. Probably easier to remove before adding
if the file names in both locations are the same.

If you want to add the custom dictionary that you've put words
into from MS word or OE it's probably at C:\\Documents and
Settings\\USER_NAME\\Application
Data\\Microsoft\\Proof\\CUSTOM.DIC

Method 2: edit the registry.

As Gerard wrote, it has nothing to do with TB, but rather with the IP
address of the ISP.

If your ISP's SMTP servers got blacklisted you can use any mailer you
want and your mails won't get thru if the recipient filters his mail
with DNS blacklists against spam.
