Filters

2005-10-25 Thread Jack S. LaRosa
Hello one and all,

I can't seem to figure out how to get a single filter to route
incoming mail to individual folders based on the sender field. I have
one name in the RULE tab under FILTERING STRINGS and the remainder of
the names in the ALTERNATIVES tab. The filter is in the INCOMING MAIL
folder.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

That Cut Mark

2005-10-25 Thread Robert D.
I was trying to explain to a few people, on another List, about the
need and usefulness of the *cut mark* sequence. What I really wanted
was just a little *clout*, for want of a better word. If there was an
RFC *suggesting* the use thereof, I would like to point to that in
future discussions just because some people sigh just don't do
things because it makes sense. Rather, they do it because it is a
posted Rule.

If you Google for 'signature separator' you'll get lots of hits :-)

You may be flogging a dead horse though. When I tried to explain to
somebody in a news group that a decent news reader would cut off the
sig separator and all that followed in a reply, he said he wouldn't use
a news reader that did that :-)

I am sure there are more ways to solve this, but in this moment I have

You might also try combination with addition of the remainder of the
names not in the Alternatives tab, but right after the first name in the
Rule tab.

Yes, you seem to be trying to get a single (complicated) filter to move
messages to different folders based on sender!

I am using the same version of The Bat! and all of the Rules and
Alternatives are only there to *select* a message. The Action tab then
allows the selected message to be moved only to a single folder AFAICT. I
need a different filter for each destination folder to keep my mailing list
messages separate.
