Moving from Outlook 2003

2007-05-22 Thread Mike Greenbaum
I'm sure this topic has been covered if someone could help me find the
information.

I'm currently using TB 3.95 for one business. However, I'm involved in a second
business which uses Microsoft Outlook 2003. Please don't tell me how bad it is.
I already know that.

I'm trying to convince my partner to move from Outlook to TB, and I have some
questions:

1A. Can TB data files be stored on a networked external hard drive so that we
can access the mail from two computers and a laptop? We do NOT need to access
the mail at the same time, but we do need to look at it and respond to it from
the two desktops and the laptop at different times easily.

1B Will we have to buy three versions of TB (one for each computer and one for
the laptop) and still be able to access the same data files from all three
computers? I'm a bit fuzzy on how this would work.

2. Our Outlook mail is currently in a PST file which is approaching 1 gb. Our
mailboxes have folders and sub-folders. Will TB import all the mail and
mailboxes correctly so that we won't have lost anything? I'm not asking for a
guarantee here, just some advice on the general reliability of the import
process.

3. What we'd do, probably is download a trial version of TB onto my computer
(since I already have some experience with it) and test the importing and data
file setup. I definitely want to keep the test installation completely
separate from my current one. Is it possible to run two different versions so
they don't interfere with one another?

Thanks for any help.

Western European (ISO) doesn't contain the € character. You need to
switch to Latin 9, or any other charset that contains it. What TB
calls Western European (ISO) is ISO-8859-1, while Latin 9 is
ISO-8859-15 (which is the same as -1, except that it adds the Euro
character).

I can get the euro character (€) with {right alt}+E. But that's
because I'm using a German keyboard. :P

A more general way would be this: hold alt and type 0128 on the numeric
pad. I'm not sure if it works for you, because the ascii numbers above
0127 can be different on different machines.

I found my wisdom here:

The various reponses indicates why its a generally bad idea to use currency
symbols in email. Different machines display the symbol differently.

Thus all currency should be, I would suggest, follow this protocol:

http://www.jhall.demon.co.uk/currency/by_abbrev.html

eg: UK pounds = GBP
US dollars = USD
Ozzie dollars = AUD
Euro = EUR

etc
etc

That works here. So does AltGr + 4 (main keyboard not numberpad).
The Euro symbol is shown on my 4 key in bottom right corner.

Thanks to all of you who have replied to my request for help.

I've chosen to reply to your message, Jernej, because when I used the
Alt+0128, suggested by Urban, Peter, and Costas either directly or
through the links to which the pointed me, I noticed that the character
set in which I was writing the message changed to the Latin 9 apparently
on its own.

On the page to which Urban pointed me, I found this footnote to the
entry for Others in the answer to the How do I access the euro
symbol? list:

On standard US keyboards, hold down either the Alt key and type 0128
on the numeric keypad part of your keyboard. The AltGr combinations
listed are not implemented on US keyboard, as users expect both right
and left Alt keys to have the same effect.

As I am using a US keyboard, the Alt+0128 was all I have access to.

Amusingly, I checked this link...

http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/html/euro.html

... (before I posted my request here), and it said if Alt+0128 works I
should consider it an illusion. ;-)

Marten, you could be right that it would be better to use something
other than monetary symbols. We'll see whether my Australian friend, to
whom I am writing, will see it as the Euro symbol or not.

Again, thanks to you all for your help.

I don't know for sure how many licenses you'd need, but there's no

IIRC it is possible to start TB with a parameter that tells it to use
a different registry set, but I can´t remember how. The easiest way to
achieve this would be to start TB from another Windows account.

2007-05-22 Thread monsell
good day to all,

if more than one email address is entered in a single 'edit address entry'
window (one below the other), how can i make all the addresses to
appear when this particular entry is selected for mass mailing? can
someone help me with a macro?

mass mailing identifies only the first address of the entry even
though the 'automatically add secondary addresses to the BCC field' is
ticked.

can a macro be developed to insert the email addresses in the TO and
BCC fields automatically when this particular HANDLE is called
upon? this could be for single messages or mass mailing.

thanks in advance for your help
