Re: Deleting address history
MAU: Hello Tony, How can I delete addresses offered on the address drop down when addressing a new email? According to TBUDL archove, I should simply select the address and hit the Delete key. This doesn't work for me. Once you get the drop-down, use the down arrow key to 'enter' the list and then use the up or down arrow keys to scroll through it. When you get to the address you want to delete, just hit Delete. This has always worked here. That didn't work for me. The only effective solution was editing the ACCOUNT.HIS file. See the thread starting from this message: From: Luca mbox543...@linuxfan.it Subject: Is there any way to clear the address history? Wrong addresses keep coming out... Thanks, but that log also merely goes back to 16/03/2013 while I wanted to be able to proof (in case it was necessary) a message was sent on the 13th. I also have Back-Ups made with Second Copy, but those only have a log reaching 'till March, 15th. The Back-Up made with TB! itself dates from the 5th (It sometimes does not make a copy saying it doesn't find the HD on which the copy has to be made - the HD is there but it has another Drive Letter than TB! searches for - TB seems to be the only program that sees a change of drive letter). -- Best Wishes, Mark using The Bat! 5.3.6.2 (BETA) 75 days remaining in 2012. In that case you're out of luck. However, for the next time something like this occurs, you could set the account log a bit larger. Default for search with date qualifier
Is there a setting to have a default date for the before and after dates in a search. Most of the time, I am looking for a receently deleted message, and it would be a convenience to be able to skip the before and after data in such circumstances. Thanks. -- Leonard S. Reply, address history and the address book
The thread about deleting address history reminded me about a vexing problem that I have asked about previouly, with not progresss on my end. Even though I have a reply template for an addressee, TheBat seem to ignore it. For example, I receive a lot of e-mail from people with titles (Dr. Professor, etc.). Frequently their titles are part of their names that preced the email address. In the case of those people whom I know personally, I like to address them by their first names, and have a reply template to do exactly that. TheBat ignores the template and starts the replay e-mail with Dr., Proffessor, etc.) It was suggested in an earlier instance of this thread that possibly I have the addressee in more than one place, thus conhfusing TheBat. Although I do have a few of these cases like this, the improper salutation appears in all cases. It seems that, come what may, TheBat looks to the account templates and not the templates in the address book. Thanks. -- Leonard S. I am going to proceed on the wildly speculative assumption that I understand what you're trying to accomplish. If correct, could you not do a manual search of the TRASH folder? While there, click on the RECEIVED column header to arrange the individual messages chronologically to facilitate locating the errant message. Or perhaps do the same to the FROM or TO columns for an alphabetical sort. Just a thought. -- Best Regards, Jack LaRosa :usflag: Central Alabama Using The Bat! ver: 5.2. However, a search without date qualifaction can return many, many message that meet my criteria (Sender, Subject, Text, etc.). So, yes, I could just scan the top of the list of Results, but some searches take forever, e.g., perhaps ten seconds grin. Frequently, I do make the extra effort to put in a date qualifier, but it is almost always to use an After date, so a default would help. Leonard -- Leonard S. Re: Deleting address history
Hello Tony, Thanks for looking at this. One final piece of the puzzle is have you figured out which entry of the auto-complete list is selected and copied to the To: address? For me it is always the same one but not the first one in the list, not by name, not by address. No pattern I can see. Try backspacing over your typing and type the same again - I get a different item selected each time and sometimes no item. I hardly use the autocomplete feature, I usually select the addresses from the Favourites pop-up or from AB. One of the reasons being that it would not be the first time that using autocomplete the message was sent to the wrong person. I think this may answer your questions. -- Best regards, Miguel A. This message is addressed to MAU with the list address in carrots following. If I were trying to replace that address with one to MAU@private.address to send a private comment about something on the list, my inattention might result in my choosing the list address again, instead of the private one, and my catty comment going to the list as not intended.
