If I cared about it enough, I would. But I have several other problems, none
serious, just annoying, which cropped up when I "upgraded".

I never had to anything like that when I was running Win 7 so I guess MS, in
their infinite wisdom, decided we needed more protection from our own stupidity.

Likely, your wife is experiencing a so-called Joe Job - a spammer sending
spam using your wife's address as Sender (From:). It's bothersome, but has no
real harm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_job

Please, if you can post one of these undeliverable notices here, we would be

If your account was hacked, you'd expect to see bounces from your
usual mail server. Because you are seeing only NDNs from foreign
servers, that suggests that your email address was spoofed on messages
that were sent from somewhere else, and you got the few bounces from
poorly configured mail servers that accept-then-bounce.

To be sure, simply drill in to the NDNs you received. You should be
able to see full headers of the original messages, and that will
quickly reveal whether the messages came through your mail server or
from somewhere else (likely some compromised machine or botnet).

Yes, change the password. If desktop computers, as opposed to mobile
devices, are involved, I'd run a Malwarebytes scan. I don't know what
one does when a mobile device is potentially infected, as I haven't had
that happen. I've been hacked before on AOL mail and changed the

I contacted the hosting provider and let a Teamviewer session
happen, but sending with TB for this PLESK hosting doesn't work unless TLS is
disabled at the server.
The technician suggested either buy a certificate or use Thunderbird.
Why would Thunderbird work, but not The Bat?

I have left it with TLS disabled at the server for the time being.

I would try to find out why TB on your PC even wants administrator
rights.

I don't login with administrator rights or do "run as administrator"
and yet TB works on my Windows 7 Ultimate PC.

My Windows 10 PC (clean install NOT an "upgrade") is 2000 km away, so
I can't test what happens there as I write.

I was almost ready to change my account to administrator when I checked User
Accounts in Control Panel. It shows me as an administrator already, prompting
yet
another brain meltdown (if I'm already an administrator, why wouldn't TB! run
properly?)

I queried the web about administrator accounts in Windows 10 and found this
interesting URL:
http://www.ghacks.net/2014/11/12/how-to-enable-the-hidden-windows-10-administrator-account/
It explained that there are two administrator accounts in Win 10, one of which
is not initially enabled. My account is the one that is enabled but gets UAC
prompts. The other one apparently does not. So, in the interest of safety I've
elected to tolerate the UAC prompts from now on and will not enable the other
administrator account.

Thanks for your help and concerns.

Nit a good idea to login to Windows with administrator rights all the
time. Apart from actual software installs, you should look very
critically at software that won't run without administrator rights
after it has been installed. Apart from CD burning software, almost
nothing else should need administrator rights.

My Windows login for Windows 7 Ultimate does NOT have administrator
rights and The Bat runs without problem.

I have a clean install (I actually bought a licence) of Windows 10 on
a different PC, but I don't see using Windows 10 as primary OS anytime soon.

Based on your email I tried running TB! as an administrator (I assumed my
account ranking had been copied over to Win 10) and the problem had disappeared.
So I set the shortcut properties to always run TB! as an administrator and that
part of the problem is solved.

Right now I'd settle for them running as they once did. Alas, even running TB!
as an administrator fails to correct the problem with (at least) those two
macros.

So, once again, my heartfelt thanks for the help.

In following your instructions I found that my settings were exactly as you

In another post from MPFA he suggested that I might not be running TB! as an

"Run As Administrator" and sure enough, the problem disappeared. I'm pretty sure
my Win 7 user account was as an administrator so I never had to deal with a
problem like this. Apparently MS decided it was too dangerous for users to run
their computers as administrators and knocked everybody down a notch when they
switched to Win 10.

That said, the %WINDOWSPLATFORMNAME, %WINDOWSCSDVERSION macros still refuse to
work.

In any event, thanks for helping.

Possibly a file permissions issue. Unless you are running (or running
TB!) as an Administrator, you may not be able to save to the
"C:\Program Files (x86)" directory or anywhere below it. Of course, if
your mail folders are located there, this cannot be the problem.

They work for me. It would be nice if their function could be extended

64-bit for both Windows and TB!).
