Re: Difference between threaded by subject and reference

2005-04-21 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello Chris,

I would prefer you reply to me on the list and not by PM.

Manual re-threading was introduced in beta 3.0.9.6 (we are currently
testing 3.0.9.17) and it works. Although, as I have written in the beta
list, I personally don't like or agree with the way they have
 implemented it.

How has it been implemented? What don't you like? Perhaps it can be
changed before it is released if a better solution is provided.

I explained all of this in a long message in the TBBeta list on
22-March-2005. If you are interested, you can look in the TBBeta
archives for Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] with
Subject Some thoughts about Threading, manual re-threading, etc.

Problem with the %CLEAR macro

2004-05-22 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello all,

I posted this same message a few days ago in TBTech but I haven't had
any reply yet. So, I'm going to try here to see if I have better luck.

-- Original message --

Let me start by saying that I have looked in the archives and wasn't
able to find anything.

I am working on two QTs that I will here call QT1 and QT2 that try to do
the following when I reply to a message:

- QT1 checks for some condition that, if met, QINCLUDEs QT2.
- QT2 does a %CLEAR and then INCLUDES a .txt file that may in turn be
another QT or just plain text.

Here is the problem:
- If I reply to a message and on the reply I type QT1Ctrl+Space
everything works as it should and %CLEAR does its job clearing quoted
text, signature and everything.

- However, if in my reply template I do a %QUINCLUDE=QT1 at the end,
when I reply to a message the %CLEAR macro in QT2 doesn't clear the
quoted text, etc., at all or doesn't do it completely (i.e. clears
quoted text but not signature). It looks like if there was a timing or
execution priorities problem when doing several and cascading
QINCLUDES from the reply template itself.

Does anybody have a hint of what may be the problem? Or am I being thick
and sleepy again?

TIA.

Re: '...The Bat!\MAIL\ is not a Basic Mail Directory'?

2003-03-24 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello Marck,

The option to change the directory requires you to specify a
directory not currently in use for MAIL. You would have been better
advised to use the built-in backup utility before reinstalling and
then taken the option to restore when loading TB for the first time.

We must be using different TBs :) It just happens that yesterday I had
to re-install TB twice due to problems in my C drive. I had backed up
the MAIL directory (on D drive) just by copying it to a different PC.
When reinstalling after a reformat of my C drive I set the mail
directory to D:\The Bat!\MAIL (I try to keep al my data on D for
easier backup) and when creating the first account I was surprised to
see that TB. when finding and existing directory within MAIL with the
same name as the account, it just used it with everything there was in
it: account configuration, all mail folders and messages (even those
that were unread before the crash were still marked as unread),
templates, everything. I didn't have to restore anything from
anywhere. Quite nice :)

Of course, in addition to a sender's wrap setting, what wraps and

You are very right. I always and only use the preview pane and I
usually don't have any problem with strange wrappings. If I get a
message with long lines, that don't fit in the width of my preview

wrappings.

I also actively fight spammers, and not just reporting spam to

Hello Krister,

is tricky to get TB! to automagically switch languages, maybe with the
help of Popfile that would be possible. What do you popfile users out
 there say?

I only use POFile to classify spam and no-spam but I am quite sure it
would probably work just fine to classify messages according to
language. After all, it builds a word list or dictionary for each
bucket. If I have time to try it I will let you know.

Setting language automatically in replies

2003-03-04 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello all,

Krister Ekstrom in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] gave me
the idea of setting the language automatically in replies based on the
language of the original message.

This method is only valid if your are using POPFile for spam
detection, like I am.

Because I mainly correspond in English and Spanish, I have changed my
POPFile from two buckets, 'spam' and 'real', to three: 'eng', 'esp'
and 'spam'. I have reset statistics, re-trained it with some 400
existing messages and, for the moment, it is running at 100% accuracy.
Obviously, I have POPFile set to include the X-Text-Classification:
header in classified messages.

In TB I have created the following QT:

,- [ SLANG ]
| %IF:%SETPATTREGEXP='(?im-s)^(X-Text-Classification)\:\s*(.*)$'%-
| %REGEXPBLINDMATCH='%HEADERS'%-
| %SUBPATT='2'=eng:%LANGUAGE='BR':%LANGUAGE='SP'
`-

And in all my reply templates I have included it right after %Cursor:

,- [ ]
| %Cursor%QINCLUDE=SLANG%-
`-

And it works!!! Now I can forget about having to change the language
manually :-)))

Well, the only way to avoid that is to use a RegEx to decide whether

This is one of the very few points in which I think TB can be greatly
improved. I hope the developers are getting this.

It is not a problem in TB. Threading by reference, as some one else
has already said, uses the References: header line (that is why is
called threading by _reference_) and also the In-Reply-To: line. There
are some e-mail clients that do no include these header lines as
default (or not at all) and so TB has no way of finding out to which
message (Message-ID) someone replied to.

If you are using POPFile v0.18.0 and leave subject modification

I looked over the manual, but it was way to vague for me.
Especially when all I ever seen from the program was a DOS program.

A DOS program

If you have installed POPFile you should have aPOPFile Program group
in Star/Programs. There you have access to two versions of the manual,
one local (installed) if you click Manual and one on-line if you
select Support/POPFile Manual.

To configure POPFile you have to select POPFile User Interface from
the same Program group. The UI is in HTML and will show in your
browser.

Hello Al,

Could you share your spam filters with the group? It seems I am
constantly adding words and I know there must be another, simpler way.

Use POPFile from http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ which takes care by
itself about adding words, and in any language.

Hello Clive,

I disagree. After one month's training Popfile is running at 99.5%
accuracy. I'm left with maybe one spam message every two days that's
not filtered into my spam folder. Impressive,

Fully agree with you about POPFile. I get an average of 30 spam
messages per day and the last time I saw a false positive was a couple
of weeks ago. As you say, impresive!

No, I would not. If I was going to do business with you, I would add
you to my address book, then my Known filter would catch your E-Mail

You are right. Anyway, I would never do business with someone whose

Hello Thomas,

I haven't used spampal, but I see that it is not that easy to
configure, judging from the recent flushing of TBUDL by one Frank
 Nijkamp. ;-)

But that is also because Spampal has the option to bounce (actually
a reply) spam messages which, to my knowledge, is completely wrong in
concept. If bounce (or reply to) real spam it will get nowhere :)

Re: Reply reminder

2003-02-16 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello Richard,

Occasionally I need to reply to a message but can't do it at that
particular moment so would like to be able to mark it in an obvious
way so that I don't miss it later. I have mark message read as soon as
it is opened set. I would like to be able to easily (ie with one or
two keystrokes) set a message as needing to be replied to so that it
reminds me, either by colour or a pop up box.

Use a Colour Group or just copy the message to a Pending_Reply folder.

In regards to specials/remind later is a feature in the 1.63 Beta
and should be discussed in TBBeta.

Re: Changing the exported file name

2003-02-12 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello Terry,

In order to save myself some work, I usually wait
until the thread is closed and then go through the thread and save all
the e-mails then. It's quicker that way instead of having to
constantly change the file name that I'm saving to.

I now have a pretty extensive collections of text files on various
subjects. On occasion, new threads are started that would be
appropriate for me to append to an already existing file. Does anyone
know of a method where I could change the filename that I am saving to
 on the fly?

Since you say you wait until you have the complete thread, why don't
you use the Message/Save as option instead of your filter? You can
save a whole thread in one go. Highlight all messages and Save As.

If you want to save to an existing file, when you try to Save as you
will be asked if you want to Overwrite the file. Answer NO and then
you will be asked if you want to Append, which is what you want to do.

Finally, be aware that you can define a template at account level for
Save as. Account/Properties/Templates/Save message.

Re: Message duplication in multiple folders

2003-02-11 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello Richard,

I am using TB! v.1.62i. I am having trouble with messages being
duplicated in several folders. I have a couple of folders that have
subfolders, and in several cases messages transferred to one subfolder
show up in a second (and in some cases a third) subfolder.

I have a quite complex folder structure with many subfolders, some up
to four levels deep, and I have never seen the problems you mention. I
am still using v1.61, I don't know if that makes a difference.

Re: Mostly OT: TB other shortcuts on taskbar

2003-02-11 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello Deborah,

When I hover my mouse over the shortcut for TB ( Moz JL) on my
taskbar, it says The Bat The Bat on two lines (or Mozilla Mozilla
etc). Why? I tried renaming it, but in the box that comes up the program
name is shown only once, not twice.

You don't say which Windows flavour (OS) you are using, and that may
help. When you say the box that comes up I assume you mean the
Properties dialog of the shortcut. What does this box have in the
Comments field at the bottom?. In Win2k, which I use, the Comments is
also displayed when hovering the mouse on the Quick Launch bar (left
side of Task bar, next to Start)

Re: SpamCop filter, how do I set it up (please) ?

2003-02-11 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello ~John,

I view of recent discussions about SpamCop, I will try to do my part
in reporting all Spam to SpamCop

Nice to hear that :-)

As for the instructions to just paste the filter into the sorting
office filters, yes it will paste in there, but it does not work
(maybe a bug in theBat! I don't know) only after adjusting settings
that I think should be checked do I get it to work as little as it
does. Please help me with this, and do not take it as being critical
of Marck's instructions, I'm sure it is a bat problem (or maybe even
a problem with me) and not his.

OK, there seem to be a problem with exporting the message or including
the text file of the exported message in the e-mail to send to
Spamcop.

Let's start from the beginning. Why don't you go to your Sorting
Office, select the filter and copy it (with Ctrl+C, not with the Copy
button) and then paste it in a message here in TBUDL so that we can
take a look?

2003-02-11 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello Paul,

These are the actions in your filter:

 Actions:
 faMarkRead,faNewMsg,faExport,faoExportOver,faoExportKludges,
 faoManualOnly,faoHotKey,faoSaveUnix

And these are the ones in mine:

,- [ ]
| Actions:
| faMarkRead,faNewMsg,faExport,faoExportOver,faoExportKludges,
| faoManualOnly,faoScrSaverOff,faoHotKey,faoHKCheckMsg,faoSaveUnix
`-

As you can see there are two differences:

faoScrSaverOff - In the Advanced tab I have Screen saver must be
Inactive. I never use a screen saver.

faoHKCheckMsg - This one may be may important. On the Options tab,
right below the HotKey combination, I have the box
for Check the selected message against this rule
set, selected, ticked, while your filters seems to
  have this not ticked.
