Hello Luca, If you select use SMTP servers on-the-go, then configure, you get a shared checkbox, not working, for each server. Maybe in some next build... You can't check or uncheck it directly with the mouse as one would expect, it does not work. But you can do it from context menu if you right click. Hello tbudl, This is probably off topic and the moderators will kill me, but here we go :) Here in Sweden our ISPs are trying to stop SPAM and Viruses by not allowing connections to other SMTP servers than the one in the ISPs network. This means that on my notebook I need to use one SMTP server when I'm at home and one when I'm at work. I solved this by creating a small software that is placed in the Tray and selected the right SMTP server based on where you are on the Internet. The software is in Beta state and I would really like to have some beta testers, anyone interested? Please contact me off-list about beta testing. Well, its not that much off topic :) Maybe I should read the rules before getting another moderator cut mark in one day :). Quite easily... at the router level block port 25 connections to anything but their SMTP servers. Running your own mail server then is pointless. Both would take roughly the same amount of time. My way out was myrealbox.com for my Hinet.net account at least: My main account was on hinet.net. When you are connected via another ISP, they will not allow you to use the their SMTP server. Sometimes I had to dial in through them (EThome being a small company and Hinet being the state-owned Big Guy), but this meant I kept switching. On a side note, my mother is on AOL. They don't provide a standard SMTP server. When I am in Germany and connected through my mother's AOL account, I use the myrealbox.com SMTP server for my mail on other ISPs. TF No need to install an SMTP server on your computer. ACM When I still had my dialup account, I used to use your method but it ACM was too slow. There was too much of a delay while the SMTP server was ACM being looked up and then accessed. My experience differs. When I had an SMTP server installed on my system, (using the cable modem and its flat rate) of course it tried to connect the the recipients' servers individually. Those servers where for some reason not always immediately accessible. Each time an access attempt was unsuccessful, I got an error message. As annoying as that was, it meant that I had to stay online until the message was sent. Sorry, I'd rather decide myself when I go to bed. ;-) With myrealbox, you just send the message out. This was the point I was making. A local mail-server isn't necessarily a waste of money for those using a dial-up connection. Not necessarily true at all. I've found that MDaemon connects and negotiaties with POP and SMTP servers faster than TB!. It actually has a great support for unattended dial-up. It could actually be a cost saver ... but I'm not really writing this to make you change how you do things. You're already happy with your method that's quite OK. Only you would know what works best for you. However, this may not be the case for others who could greatly benefit by using their own local servers. I've got accounts with four different ISPs and send email with all four for different purposes. The problem is that when I connect to one ISP I can't get TB to send all email in the various Outboxes through the smtp server of the ISP I'm logged on to. If I click on 'Send All' TB tries to connect to the smtp servers of each ISP that I have outgoing email from - and some won't allow access if I'm not connected to them. How can I configure TB to 'Send all queued email in all Outboxes via the smtp of the ISP which we are connected to'? Unless you run your own SMTP Server, the best think I can think of is using WinGate SMTP Proxy. All of account set to send to Wingate's ip address, and in Wingate's tcp/smtp mapping you may set each ISP SMTP map to their Dial Up Profile. Otherwise it'd do what Outlook has a habbit of doing if you tick the wrong box, and disconnect you from one ISP, and connect you to another. Plus some SMTP servers have a setting that won't allow relaying of another domain name that isn't theirs... for example, your have accounts with isp1.com and isp2.com... Mercury/32 is a great mail server, well supported and totally FREE. I have used it for about one year now. MailTraq is also a nice mail server. If I understand correctly what you mean, that would not solve the problem completely. Aside of the traditional you cannot send through my SMTP server if you are not directly connected to me limitation, there is an increasing number of ISP that are setting filters in their servers, as I think someone has already mentioned. Ray- You may have some more options here. I've set this up for a client in the following manner: Go to Account | Properties | Transport | Send Mail and click the Authentication button. It's possible that Use POP before SMTP authentication is all you need. This works for most of my situations. If not, and if at least one of your ISP accounts *will* allow you to access their SMTP server while you're logged on to someplace else, set that server as your SMTP account. Then do as above and place a checkmark in the Perform SMTP Authentication (RFC 2554) box. Select Use specific settings and enter your login info for that server. Having been through these problems myself I have two suggestions, both of which work for me: 1) Use a local smtp server. I use Postcastserver (www.postcastserver.com) which is freeware, takes about 2 mins to install and set up and then works flawlessly. 2) Use a free email service that allows you to send from their smtp server, with authentication. I use myrealbox (www.myrealbox.com) for this. Set up an account with them, then enter their smtp server in the Bat! settings, authenticate using your username and password, and you can then send from all your accounts using the same smtp server, regardless of which ISP you happen to be connected to. The only limitation is they restrict you to no more than 15 (I think) recipients per message, but this is not a big deal for most users. Different settings for various SMTP servers..
Currently I'm manually changing SMTP server settings for my 3 mail accounts twice a day; in the morning at the office and then in the evening at home. Is there a better way to do this? I know I can log into Windows as a different user (I use Win2K) and get different settings, but I really don't want to keep my settings (and filters, cookies, templates) current in two locations. (Not just for The Bat but other programs as well; I don't want to log on as a different user at home) That would be even more work than changing SMTP settings twice a day. Thanks!! 1. Set up separate accounts, each with the SMTP server settings you want. 2. Group the accounts together (I think it's under Options/Network, if you've logged on to TB! with administrator privileges), so you only have one username (and password, if applicable). 3. Then just send from each account as you desire, without resetting anything. If you want to check all accounts for incoming mail simultaneously (almost), use alt-F2. You didn't mention your POP3 settings, but if your mail comes in to different servers and you want to consolidate it, you could do so across accounts within the same group by using filters. Using twi smtp servers
I have a problem I am not sure how to solve to make sending mail as easy as possible. Each weekday I use one smtp server at my office and another at home. At my office I am on a network with a continuous connection and I do not dial out. My ISP is netcom (now earthlink) who no longer lets you send mail out from the netcom smtp server unless you have dialed into netcom. At the office I do not dial into netcom. During the day, however, I can send mail showing my address as my netcom account if I use my office's smtp server. At night I can only send mail using the netcom smtp server as I can't send mail using my office's smtp server from my home. I use a notebook computer which I take to and from the office each day. At present, when I get to the office, I go into account properties and go to transport and type in the smtp server which I use at my office. Then, in the evening, I do the same thing and change the smtp server to netcom. In a sense, this is no big deal as it allows me to send mail from both places. OTOH, having to do this each day is sort of a pain. When you reply or send a new mail from home, every time you use to-be-defined quicktemplate called "home", which contains the macro %ACCOUNT="B". Dynamically switching SMTP servers
Hello TBUDL, I connect to the internet three different ways with my laptop. 1)At work I am plugged into a LAN with a dedicated network connection with a DHCP assigned address. When I am hooked up this way, I use the local SMTP server (since my ISP won't relay mail from machines not on its network). 2)When I'm at home I use the Internet sharing feature of Win98 and use the Win98 assigned address and my ISPs SMTP server (since my work SMTP server is behind a firewall and won't allow me to connect to it. 3) On occasion I actually dial into my ISP and again I use my ISPs SMTP server. My questions: Is there a way to get the Bat! to switch between these servers either intelligently or with a drop-down so that I don't have to retype the names every time? Will I mess up anything if I just make copies of the cfg files for each variation and setup a batch file that will copy the appropriate file to account.cfg and then launch TB? I've not run across a mailer yet that offers this as a feature...maybe you could be the first! Looks like a great product so far. Give the template a name such as 'foobar' and give it the handle name 'fbar'. Place in it: Hi %FromFName, %Quotes %Cursor -- Regards, Katsmeow %ACCOUNT="foobar"%CLEAR * When you generate your reply message. Place the cursor in the message body field, type "fbar" and then hit CTRLSpacebar. The previous template will be erased (thanks to the %CLEAR macro) and the quick template put in it's place. Another approach would be to simply place in the template: %ACCOUNT="foobar" But if that's all you wish to do then using the editor menu account change option would be as easy as typing "fbarCTRLSpacebar. I don't want this second account to collect my mail. I want my "main" account to collect the mail. How do I handle that?
