Re: [Tex-music] Staff crossed beams

2022-08-28 Thread avr
Thanks Luigi.

Now i can solve all simular bars.

I also have bars with a double beam on the last note in the upper staff, see
the last bar (L2), this i still cannot get it right.

I believe this works. You must end the group with "]" and not with "]j".
It is also not necessary to force the beam direction with "[ju".

[Tex-music] Staff crossed beams

In this example, in the upper staff, the lower voice get a double beam equal
to the upper voice. I am not able to solve this.

Was this already mentioned before?

[Tex-music] automatic beam generation

2022-03-05 Thread avr
Dear all,

I use pmx2.94

Ihave a (long) pmx file, with new movemants at line 16 and 25,
At bar121 i have a new movement, but on line 33:

L33Mci.16
K+0+2
m3838

>From then onwards, the chords are no more beamed, they all have flags.
I can force the beams, but that is a lot of work.

Removing the movement L33Mci.16 brings the beams back.
I tried an old version of pmx (273) then the beams are also back.

This is my question: is there a possibility (a command?) to make the beams
appear again?

Thanks on advance

Andre

Thanks, Hiroaki. I didn't know about \Contpiece either. But after my post, I
figured out that \startpiece also does the job. And now I realize that for
my purpose I wanted the bar numbering also to be reset to 1, which
\startpiece does. So to do it in PMX, you can use the redefinition trick:

Centering problem I've noticed that the scores I now make using PMX/MusiXTeX
are not centered by default the same way they've been in the past. The
problem is both vertical and horizontal. I'm pretty sure the change was not
in PMX, since when I reprocess old .tex files that used to come out
centered, they don't any more. I'm attaching a simple PMX source and the
resulting .tex and .ps files. When I open the .ps in GSview, it is clearly
off center to the left, and less obviously lower than before. Do others get
the same .tex from the .pmx? Do others get the same .ps from the .tex? Do
others see the same shifts? My processing steps are PMX 2.94 etex (Version

letter size paper, but not entering any options in any of the commands. Can
anyone help me sort this out? If worst comes to worst, is there a brute
strength TeX or dvips command that will shift the entire image on a page
both vertically and horizontally? Thanks for any help! --Don Simons Scanned

Example of \setlyrics:

Choose between '\_ 'symbol and '- '
The tilde can produce extra space.
The items, separated by a space must be equal tot he number of notes they
span.

\setlyrics{cresc1}{cresc.- - \_ \_ ~~ \_ - - - - - -~ -~ - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - - } \llyr%

\assignlyrics1{cresc1} % can be placed before any note
...
\assignlyrics1{}% can placed after any note

If you use more instruments the assignlyrics must be placed at the
corresponding staff (ie. \assignlyrics2... in staff 2)

Setting lyrics with hyphenated melismas does practically the same thing,
only that it fills the space with hyphens instead of dots - so why not abuse
musixlyr for this task? See the example below.

that in next versions?

Well, still no real solution, which would involve some deep reprogramming in
PMX. But here's an ugly "band-aid" that uses some inline TeX to locally cancel
out the erroneous \tbbu4 command that PMX issues in this particular case:

Progress report: Not solved yet, but I see at least part of what's causing the
problem. For multiplicity changes at the staff jump, I had worked out a scheme
for the particular case where the multiplicity decreases right after the staff
jump, for example, 16ths in the bass connected to 8ths in the treble. But
Andre's example ends up exposing two major flaws in the scheme: At the end of
the first segment, it looks forward (in time) for a lengthening in time values,
and that doesn't apply in even the simplest case of staff-crossing 8th note
chords, where the jump goes backwards, from the second 8th in the lower staff
to the first in the upper. The second flaw is that I based the decision of
whether there was a multiplicity change on looking at the horizontal note
spacing after the staff jump at the end of the first segment. That's also just
plain wrong in that the note spacing is not directly related to note duration
if there are shorter notes in another staff, as in Andre's example.

So I'm still wracking my brain trying to come up with a criterion PMX can apply
at the end of the first segment of a staff-jumping beam to properly deal with
possible multiplicity changes there.

Andre, does this do what you want?

c82 zc+ c- zc+ c-4u zc+ //
[u+18 g83 ze g ]j rb4 /
[jl b83 zcr e zcr zb ] g44 ze zc zb /
r1 r r r r4 /

I started with the example from bar 2 of staffcrossall.pmx. Then it did take
lots of trial and error to get it right. But it looks like you confused things
even more by putting in some unnecessary extra [j and ]j .

Dear all,

I need help to set this 1st bar right.

In staff 2:
- The second chord looks like a 16th note, probably because of the upper staff
(compare with the 2nd bar)
- in the same chord i want the sequence of the 'c b' changed to 'b c' as in the
3th chord.

(the upper staff is a song line, i need flagged notes there)

Thanks in advance

Andre

Using Andre’s PMX file (see below), the latest full public distro of PMX,
Version 2.84, gives this: I’ve been working on this on and off for a month now,
and I’m ready to throw in the towel. I’ve managed to modify the PMX code to
solve the first problem (bar 2), but not the second (bar 3). More broadly, the
legacy coding is already so complex that I just cannot find a clear path
forward to deal with all the possible variations: upness or downness of the
first or second member of the jump beam, increase or decrease in the
multiplicity, and whether the change in multiplicity comes before, at, or after
the staff jump. Here is what my development version gives: With the new PMX
version, the following inline coding fixes the problem in the 3rd
bar:2 2 2 8 2 8 0 01 1 20 0  bt./[l+14 a13 ]j rbd8 /rb1
\let\tbbut\tbbu\def\tbbu#1{\tbbl#1\let\tbbu\tbbut}\ [ju e14 g8 ]
/===yielding this:It was necessary to change the first part to a
lower beam to make the horizontal bar that we want to terminate early come out
above the other one. That could be done in PMX. But then the termination
command for that 2nd bar had to be changed from \tbbu to \tbbl to make it end
at the right horizontal position, and that required inline TeX. I believe that
any related situation can be handled similarly, with some combination of
alterations of upness and downness within PMX, together with inline TeX as
needed. I’m not saying it’s easy…a fair amount of trial and error may be
needed. Unless I come across backward incompatibilities or stumble across a
major breakthrough, I’ll be posting the new PMX version soon. --Don From:

: [TeX-music] Marginal Notes in \setlyrics.

Hi all!

Is there a possiblity to have marginal notes (e.g. by using \marginpar)
in the lyrics of songs. When I try \marginpar inside the \setlyrics
macro then an error is returned.

Thanks for your attention,
--Stefan

Background: I want to output verse numbers as marginal notes (like it is
often done in church song books). The text of the first verse is set by
\setlyrics.
