[Bug 94333] sound card not working after clean install

2007-03-21 Thread Maciej Bukczynski
Public bug reported:

Although it is visible, Ubuntu cannot fully configure my sound card.

I have a Soundblaster Live card CT4760, and have also tried an SB Live
Platinum SB0060 card (both use emu10k1 driver) and an older Soundblaster
(using the ens1371 driver). Same behaviour. The machine is running an
Intel D850GB motherboard (without the onboard sound option), with the
last available firmware. The most interesting thing is that the Live
Platinum card had the attached LiveDrive bay, and the headphone out put
on it worked. None of the connections and channels on the PCI card
itself worked, yet the LiveDrive extension was configured as the primary
audio device. No Volume or Master Volume track was available in the
mixer, the primary was just Headphone Out.

I have tried a clean installation of Dapper, Edgy and Feisty. All
exhibit the same problem. However, I used the same hardware years ago
with either Warty or Hoary and had no issues. The sound worked out of
the box.

Anyways, without further ado, here are the symptoms.

1. The device is listed by lspci

[Bug 94331] please consider omitting libc6 dependency in linux-headers...-generic

2007-03-21 Thread Peter Cordes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

 I run AMD64 Edgy on a Core2Duo w/ an Intel g965 motherboard. I use the
Ubuntu kernel from Feisty because it has a couple newer drivers (e.g.
pata-marvell, needed for my IDE dvdrw).

The only problem is that linux-headers-...-generic depends on Feisty's
libc6, and installing it breaks Edgy's gcc. Installing the headers
package with dpkg --force-depends-version (or by hacking the control
file in the package) lets me compile working kernel modules. (Yes, I
know Feisty packages on an Edgy system is unsupported. That's why I'm
just filing a wishlist bug. Although the kernel is kind of special,
since a recent kernel is often needed for new hardware.)

There are some dynamic ELF executables in the package, e.g. genksyms,
so I guess this dependency is warranted. When I started writing this, I
didn't think there were any binaries in the package, so removing the
libc6 dep would have been really easy. I guess that makes this even
more wishlist than it was already, since to be strictly correct, you'd
have split the package or drop the binaries. (They are of questionable
usefulness, IMHO. I'm not a kernel expert, but I think if I was doing
something with those tools I'd probably want a full kernel source tree.
Unless m-a calls those tools when building modules?) Also, the binaries
probably all work fine with libc6 2.4... (I know that doesn't count for
much...) I think I've run out of useful arguments... I'm just saying
that what I do works for me, and would be easier if I didn't have to
hack the binary packages. I know I could just compile my own kernels
from source, but the Ubuntu team does such a nice job of making a nice
up-to-date kernel. I admin enough machines that I don't want to spend
all my time at home being a sysadmin.

I'd mark this as a wishlist bug if the web form let me. If reportbug
did more than just post to a mailing list in Ubuntu, I'd rather use it.

2007-03-21 Thread Peter Cordes
sorry, I meant to report this against the linux-source-2.6.20 source
package, not the binary package. The binary package in question is
linux-headers-2.6.20-12-generic. The same thing applied to linux-
headers-2.6.20-9-generic, which is why I just went for the source

[Bug 94337] LDAP search is not getting any results

2007-03-21 Thread SebastianIvan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using edgy
I have both thunderbird(1.5.0.10 - 20070306) and evolution (2.8.1)
Using thunderbird LDAP searches are working fine
When using evolution, with the same LDAP server and same configuration
(anonymous, no encryption) search for contacts never gets an result reported.

If I run in terminal evolution-2.2, I can get results from LDAP only first time
I do a search.
Second time will not work anymore. I need to quit the client and re-open it to
do a search again on LDAP.

Second point - In terms of design:
In thunderbird, when just starting typing in the search box, already requests
are sent to LDAP server, where in evolution the search starts only after the
request is initiated with an Enter.

Thank you

[Bug 94339] Feisty will not mount partitions without UUID in fstab

2007-03-21 Thread David Dean
Public bug reported:

Using the old /dev/hdaX device path no longer works in Feisty, after
kernel update to 2.6.20-12-generic.

I have /home on a seperate partition, so for me this was a show stopper.

In 2.6.20-11 this fstab works fine:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
# /dev/hda5
UUID=2efaefbd-172b-45a6-b679-3bbf7e8e1179 /   ext3
defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /dev/hda6
UUID=7cd0dfc6-089d-4e33-be1a-cd90fcd0a6f1 noneswapsw
  0 0
/dev/hdc/media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
/dev/hda7/home ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro 0
 1

But in 2.6.20-11 I have had to put in the UUID for /dev/hda7:
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
# /dev/hda5
UUID=2efaefbd-172b-45a6-b679-3bbf7e8e1179 /   ext3
defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# /dev/hda6
UUID=7cd0dfc6-089d-4e33-be1a-cd90fcd0a6f1 noneswapsw
  0 0
/dev/hdc/media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
#/dev/hda7
UUID=499146e1-504d-4ed1-8b93-878940b5c4a4   /home   ext3
defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1

oh, and when this fails, it is not a silent fail -- an attempt to fsck
is made for some reason, and this fails (there appears to be no
/dev/hdaX paths at all?). Exiting the shell that results starts X
correctly etc, but without my /home mounted.

I know that is an obvious question. Does your internet connection work

I tried accessing the first package in your list and it was available.
You could also try browsing to
http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/v/vlc/ and seeing if
the package is there or if you can reach the server. You may want to
switch mirrors if you continue to have problems with that one.

Re: [Bug 82236] Re: Klamav switch off after a few secs automatically in Feisty 7.04 herd2

2007-03-21 Thread Webmania
Dear Sarah, I have still some problems. Made a full update, upgrade, but got
:

sudo apt-get install klamav
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
klamav: Depends: libclamav1 (= 0.88.4) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

Reinstalling libclamav1 results in the same info that the package is
broken

[Bug 93197] Re: migration-assistant crash if existing partition type changed during install

2007-03-21 Thread Colin Watson
cjwatson evand: looking at
https://beta.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/93197 - shouldn't
'set_os_type $line' be 'set_os_type $line'? $line might well contain spaces
and needs to be quoted
cjwatson evand: also seems like it wouldn't hurt to have set_os_type return 1
if it's an unknown OS type and then do 'set_os_type $line || continue' or
similar in calling code

[Bug 94273] Re: Missing /kubuntu/administrative/index.html

2007-03-21 Thread Matthew East
From what I understand from your commit this just involves changes to
two strings in the document keeping safe. If that's right, I would
just do the same fix in branches/feisty, regenerate the pot file for
keeping-safe, and upload it to Rosetta manually. If it's done quickly I
don't see a problem.

[Bug 94049] Re: i cant install ubuntu 6.10 or 6.06, i m getting installer crushed

2007-03-21 Thread Colin Watson
There are lots of squashfs errors in your syslog. This points pretty
clearly to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive. It may help to clean the
CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, or to clean the CD/DVD
drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics

[Bug 74264] Re: crash at YabootInstaller, mac mini 1.4mhz 1 gig ram

2007-03-21 Thread Colin Watson
I'm afraid that there is nothing I can do about this without the
requested log files. If you (the original reporter) can reproduce this
bug with a current release and can get me the log files, feel free to
reopen this bug. (Anyone else reading this who believes they have a
similar problem should open a new bug instead.)

I think this should be finally laid to rest by the new manual
partitioner in Feisty, but it's hard to tell for sure without logs.

[Bug 63123] Re: battery info fans do not work after hibernate (HP nw8240)

2007-03-21 Thread Luka Renko
I have applied several patches from upstream:

Linux bug: 8110
GIT: 51e7fff1c2b763da910db3a875eac5b992df91d9

Linux bug: 7570#c14
GIT: 7292576043666ff39946dee14641fe719ba8c7e8

Linux bug: 7887
GIT: aafbcd165a2a02e6dff173f66772b3148229ace8

Linux bug: 5534
 - 1ba753acb372c2955a4843302e92e49ce82e2fea
 - 5f7748cf91558a5026ded5be93c5bf6c1ac34edf
 - c0d127b56937c3e72c2b1819161d2f6718eee877

The improvement is that AC adapter/battery is properly detected after
resume and status get properly updated. Fans do not go automatically
after resume, but you can get them started if you enable polling by
doing:

  echo 5 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ1/polling_frequency

This sounds more like a workaround. :-(

Karianne: can you try on default 2.6.20-12 kernel if above workaround
already works on stock ubuntu kernel?

[Bug 89984] Re: NFS broken, cant read superblock

2007-03-21 Thread Ryan Ackley
Good to see that finally someone else has reproduced this bug, but sad
to see that there seems to be no action so far to fix the bug.

I've just updated my feisty64 install in VMware and see that the problem
persists.

[Bug 94345] superkaramba causes xscreensaver error messages

2007-03-21 Thread Hein Zelle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: superkaramba

When running xscreensaver together with superkaramba, I get many of the
following error messages displayed by xscreensaver when it is active:

unrecognized ClientMessage _NET_RESTACK_WINDOW received for window
(superkaramba / Superkaramba)

The error mesage is not exact as I can't copy/paste from the
xscreensaver display, but it's about right.

There are a few bug reports in debian about this, for the xscreensaver
package. The xscreensaver author suggests (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=109453 at the bottom) that this is a problem with
the client program doing bad things, in this case superkaramba.

I've tried to send this report to the upstream author at
[EMAIL PROTECTED], but their mailbox is full and the mail was bounced.

My system:

ubuntu 6.10 (edgy)
kernel 2.6.17-11-server

X Window System Version 7.1.1
Release Date: 12 May 2006

Installed packages:

ii superkaramba 3.5.5-0ubuntu2 a program based on
