[Bug 119978] Gnome-Panel not starting up properly

Thank you torben_caroc for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
[1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during the crash
and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if this crash
is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is very important for us
to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 119982] amd64 vncconfig crashes

2007-06-12 Thread Roger Binns
Public bug reported:

I am using vnc4server and presume vncconfig came from that. dpkg
refuses to tell me which package contains vncconfig.

$ dpkg -S vncconfig
dpkg: *vncconfig* not found.

Running vncconfig results in an X error:

$ vncconfig -nowin
X Error of failed request: BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib
length error)
Major opcode of failed request: 134 (VNC-EXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 ()

[Bug 95857] Re: [feisty] kernel boot delayed 60 secs on floppy error

2007-06-12 Thread Michał Wróbel
There seems to be no way to avoid the problem by changing a BIOS setting
on my Dell Latitude C400. BIOS setup utility already claims that there
is no floppy drive installed. Probably, BIOS provides a kind of
placeholder device for future attachment of the floppy drive.

There exists a workaround for this problem (tested on
kubuntu-7.04-alternate-i386):

modprobe -r floppy
rm /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/block/floppy.ko

This removes the floppy module from memory and then from ramdisk to
prevent reloading it.

[Bug 119983] Gnome Panel, Double-click on icon sends panel away.

2007-06-12 Thread Stephen Gornick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

If I launch an icon by double-clicking on it and then move the mouse
before the app launches then the panel hosting the icon I clicked will
move to the side where the mouse moved. To get the panel back to its
original position I need to go into the panel's properties and change
the orientation back to top.

How to repeat:
In the default Gnome desktop, double-click on the Firefox icon and then quickly
move the mouse to the right side before Firefox launches. For me, I can get
this to recur at least 20% of the time, or even more frequent if there is a
load on the computer such as launching some other app (e.g., OpenOffice) and
then double-clicking on the Firefox icon, followed by moving the mouse away.

I got this same behavior on both my Feisty Desktop i386 installation as
well as on a Feisty Desktop AMD64 LiveCD.

[Bug 74454] Re: [network-admin] net-mgr doesn't remember location

2007-06-12 Thread Glyn
Hi Sebastien

I figured that since the bug tracker doesn't have a way of voting for
bugs, that was the only lever available to flag the importance of the
bug. I have been delighted by Feisty and this particular bug stands out
compared to the usability of the other parts of the system I have used.

I admit I was surprised to be allowed to nominate the bug for a version
- maybe that's something that should be restricted to committers?

Anyway, thanks for the pointer to the source...

Thank you leandrobhbr for your report,

This particular issue has already been reported as bug #69931 [1]
(MASTER firefox crash [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Please feel free to add any other information you might consider to be related
to this particular issue (e.g. a test case) either to [1] or [2].

Notice that you are not using ubuntu's packaged flash plugin (package
flashplugin-nonfree) I recommend you to migrate to the packaged
version. It might not prevent those crashes, but the plugin will be
always up-to-date by apt the way the other apps are.

I also encourage you to upgrade from edgy to feisty as it is the current
 ubuntu release.

As the original reporter you'll be informed by email of all comments or
 changes
that affects either this report or the Master Bug (bug #69931 [1]).
You can unsubscribe [3] to stop receiving this mailing at any time.

And, of course, please don't doubt to report any other crashes/issues you
 might
 find in the future.

Further information can be found at [4].

Gerard
I'm not surprised the shipped binary drivers didn't work with your card. See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#head-7f830fe17ae6da7c546decbb10c32ff61471258e
about which cards are supported by the NVIDIA binary driver shipped by Ubuntu.
Assuming you followed the instructions on
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490 with regard to
DISABLED_MODULES I'd be surprised if the 100.14.09 driver didn't work (however
bugs.launchpad.net is the wrong place to report problems arising from using non
Ubuntu repository drivers you may get a better/faster response using one of the
methods listed on http://www.ubuntu.com/support/communitysupport ). Assuming
you can get the 100.14.09 driver going this turns sounds like a similar issue
to Bug #112483 .

Re: [Bug 109529] Re: [nvidia-glx] can suspend/resume once, suspending a second time hangs, nvidia-glx-legacy works

2007-06-12 Thread Lars Andersson
Hi Andor,

Thanks for the suggestions... However, I had this problem already
before trying to upgrade HAL. I tried the new HAL just to see how it
worked, but nothing changed. I have now reverted to the standard
version, and my laptop still hangs when trying to suspend a second
time. As I mentioned, it's probably related to X. I can suspend/resume
several times in a row from the console prompt, but as soon as I have
a gdm login or X session running, it hangs at the second attempt to
suspend.

/Lars

 Hi Lars,

 Using Synaptic, force downgrade of the following 4 packages: hal;
hal-device-manager; libhal1; libhal-storage1. Once that is done, LOCK
the version. Then only use the GUI of update manager to do updates, or
Synaptic (apt-get upgrade) with update the bad HAL packages.

from the console (with POST_VIDEO=true), even when the nvidia module is
loaded. But in X, it hangs when trying to suspend the second time after
boot (POST_VIDEO=false). Has any of you come up with a solution? Let me

[Bug 77971] Re: usb flash drive not working. Lsusb hangs with no output.

2007-06-12 Thread thedanyes
This is odd because all my usb devices have been working fine up to this
point. I plugged in my two external usb drives and turned them on, then
did an 'sudo fdisk -l' to see what device labels they had been assigned
so I could mount them. They didn't show up in the fdisk list, so I ran
it a few more times, they still didn't show up. Next I ran 'lsusb' as
root, and it hung. I hit ctrl-c a couple times, waited a few minutes,
hit ctrl-z - no luck - that console never became responsive again. I
closed that console and opened another. Su'ed to root, ran 'ps aux |
grep lsusb', ran a 'kill' on the process number, it didn't die. Ran a
'kill -9' on the process number, and it still didn't die. Here is my
'ps aux | grep lsusb' output 13 minutes later:

[Bug 71924] Re: local screen display 'lost' when remote ends XDMCP session

2007-06-12 Thread stkas
I have moved my server from gentoo to kubuntu feisty last week, after running
my notebook with kubuntu edgy for a while, to get rid of long compile times and
benefit from the
maintained SW repository.

I have been used to work remotely via XDMCP from my workstation on the gentoo
server without any loss of local KDE session since years.
Using kubuntu i have noticed exactly the same problem. As some of the others i
checked and rechecked again the config, only to find to be as it should.

If somebody can work on this problem, please tell me which files, info
you need to progress. I will support any effort the best i can.

Thanks in advance
Stefan

[Bug 119471] Re: 2.6.20-16-generic cannot modprobe nvidia-glx

2007-06-12 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Punting from linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 - linux-restricted-
modules-2.6.20

gestoned:
Thank you for your bug report. This is actually more of a support request than
a bug report and you may get a better/faster response using one of the methods
described on http://www.ubuntu.com/support/communitysupport . However
unravelling what you have done will now take several steps

Generally speaking by far and away the easiest way of enabling the
NVIDIA binary driver in Feisty is by using restricted-manager . The
steps are outlined on
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia . However as
you are now using the legacy drivers, trying to switch back to nvidia-
glx is going to make you run into Bug #106217 .

Can you switch back to the nv driver and then do
sudo apt-get remove nvidia-glx-legacy
You will then have to manually remove the file
/lib/linux-restricted-modules/.nvidia_legacy_installed if it exists. Can you
then use restricted manager to enable the driver for your card. After rebooting
and seeing the original issue can you add the output
sudo sh -x /sbin/lrm-video nvidia
dmesg | tail
dpkg -l linux-restricted-modules-\*| grep ii
dpkg -l nvidia-\* | grep ii
uname -a
to this bug report please?

[Bug 44975] Re: Apache2's mod_deflate logging seems broken

2007-06-12 Thread Soren Hansen
I've looked over the documentation for Apache and may have found the
reason why you're having problems. It *is* indeed possible to define
multiple log files, so it's not because your deflate.log gets overridden
later, *but* http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/logs.html#virtualhost says
that If CustomLog or ErrorLog directives are placed inside a
VirtualHost section, all requests or errors for that virtual host
will be logged only to the specified file. Any virtual host which does
not have logging directives will still have its requests sent to the
main server logs.

Does that perhaps apply to your setup?

[Bug 119993] save casper logs after install

[Bug 42201] Re: Silly problem with a parameter

2007-06-12 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
The blowfish secret should since a while be always successfully
included. What Richard Laager describes is also a side effect of another
bug in the package and that was that the config only got reloaded when
you touched a file under /usr/share/phpmyadmin (some internal phpmyadmin
config file caching). In any case, I have strong reasons to believe that
any current 2.10.x packages have fixed this.

[Bug 119996] GAIM does not use my avatar image (buddy icon) for Yahoo account/protocol

2007-06-12 Thread Vasile Tomoiaga
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

I have myself in the GAIM list of contacts, both on yahoo and
gtalk/jabber protocols. My icon (avatar) that I set for GTalk is shown
correctly in GAIM, but that might be because I entered it while on a
windows machine, and GTalk stores the avatar on their servers, as in
GMail contacts maybe.

The problem is that even if I set an image/avatar for my yahoo account,
GAIM does not display it, and people that have me on their list do not
see my image (as I have myself added in contacts list).

If more informations are needed, I will respond. Thanks.

[Bug 119997] Evolution decodes ISO-2022-JP incorrectly.

2007-06-12 Thread Paul Wagland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When evolution shows a message in the ISO-2022-JP character set it
incorrectly starts decoding as 'JIS X 0201-1976 (Roman set)' instead
of as ASCII. The specification (RFC 1468) says that text starts in
ASCII, and only switches to Japanese characters through an escape
sequence. The Roman set is considered to be Japanese for this
discussion. For the most part, this does not matter, as The Roman
character set of JIS X 0201 [JISX0201] is identical to ASCII except for
backslash () and tilde (~). The backslash is replaced by the Yen sign,
and the tilde is replaced by overline.

That is, given the mail message:

--_=_NextPart_001_01C7ACC7.8B7C4F65
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-2022-JP
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

next.url=http\://go.to.there/

It should be displayed as:

next.url=http\://go.to.there/

However, evolution incorrectly displays it as:

next.url=http¥://go.to.there/

[Bug 119991] Re: gaim crash - core dump

[Bug 118586] Re: Firefox halts keyboard scrolling after embedded Flash video

2007-06-12 Thread Freddy Martinez
I am rejecting this bug for several reasons mainly because the manner in
which this occurs is the result of flash-player. First, this does not
occur with Gnash, the GNU flash player. Secondly, this is the behavior
of flashplayer in other OSs (tested on XP with Firefox). This is likely
the result of the manner in which flash player 'steals ' focus in case
the content is something that is not video (an embedded video game for
example). Lastly, this is confirmed behavior but not unnecessarily a bug
(which is undesired behavior usually). Rather this is how upstream wants
the player to behave. Thank you for taking the time to report this
issue.

[Bug 119999] Please merge zsh-beta 4.3.4-dev-0+20070607 from Debian unstable

2007-06-12 Thread Michele Angrisano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zsh-beta

* Merge from Debian unstable, remaining changes:
- Add add-shell /bin/zsh because zsh-beta is already registered
as an alternative to zsh, and this is needed to be able to have
zsh-beta as the only installed zsh. (LP: #67900)
- Don't set PATH in zshenv any more.
- Update maintainer in field debian/control.

** Affects: zsh-beta (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed
