[Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-27 Thread ThomasNovin
Same problem here. I can reproduce this with both VLC and Totem.

Using ~/.gvfs/sharename instead works great.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

ii libsmbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.3
ii gvfs 0.2.4-0ubuntu2

This seems like a showstopper for 8.04.1!

2008-06-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for the smb.conf files. However, I am still not able to
reproduce this. Based on one of the attached smb.conf files, I have
taken a stock smb.conf file, and added the following on a Gutsy server:

[bug241448]
path = /tmp
available = yes
browsable = yes
public = yes
writable = yes

Gutsy clients can access it fine, by using nautilus via Network,
selecting the server and share, or by specifying the share via smb://

I am going to try different combinations.

Probably you should try to store a video file(whatever) on server /tmp
and then click on it and play with totem or vlc, after have accessed the
smb share with nautilus or have mounted it with the places-conect to
server gnome feat.

it shouldn't play

[Bug 243525] [NEW] slapd needs apparmor changes for cn=config

2008-06-27 Thread Jeff Strunk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: slapd

/usr/bin/slapd needs write access to /etc/ldap/slap.d if one is going to
use the in tree configuration mechanism effectively.

The following line needs to be added to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.slapd :
  /etc/ldap/slapd.d/* rw,

It can go after the line:
  /etc/ldap/slapd.conf r,

I found this bug on a Hardy server with slapd 2.4.9-0ubuntu0.8.04 which
is made with the openldap2.3 source package. The solution was at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=808097

The consequence of not doing this is that any changes made to the
cn=config tree are not saved in /etc/ldap/slapd.d . This defeats the
purpose of this new feature.

** Affects: openldap2.3 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Yes, I'm sure they can access the files. But upload a video and then
try to play it directly from Samba with Totem (supposedly by streaming
it). That's the problem. And it happened just after upgrading Samba.

[Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
This is what I did:

Gutsy server:
* created the above share
* restarted samba

Gutsy client:
* used nautilus to access the share, without mounting
* copied a flash video to the share through nautilus
* tried to play video through nautilus by double clicking on it (worked)
* tried to play the video in totem by specifying smb://.../share/file.flv
(worked)

Hardy client:
* tried to play video through nautilus by double clicking on it (worked)
* tried to play the video in totem by specifying smb://.../share/file.flv
(worked)

I then added a new share to the server with:
[bug241448-seb]
path = /tmp/bar
guest ok = no

then added a user with smbpasswd

Then tried to access the file in the same way on Gutsy and Hardy
clients. Both worked.

[Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-27 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I have now tried with Hardy server and clients and Feisty server. Tried
with and without guest access. Tried via 'totem smb://...', using
File/Location within totem and accessing through samba without mounting
(and with for that matter). Tried on real hardware and kvm. All work
fine.

I need someone to start from a clean install of the samba server and a
new user on the client and detail the exact steps to reproduce the
problem, and include the video in question if it is small and
appropriate (you can email me off list if needed). Please also post your
smb.conf as well as /var/log/samba/log.smbd and /var/log/samba/log.your
client hostname, making sure that /etc/samba/smb.conf has 'loglevel =
9' on the server.

[Bug 189168] Re: unable to view windows shares because of the default resolve order

2008-06-27 Thread Benedikt Bär
Hi chuck,

The problem is, in Windows I can access the shares just fine, despite of
using OpenDNS. In Gutsy, this also worked without problems.

So this is definitively a regression, and should be fixed. Besides, the
fix is quite simple, as outlined in the post above.

Just my 0.02$

This file in fact exists (it has been taken directly from Right Button

AND: If I try to play a file which does not exist (either on SMB or
locally), then it says Location not found, not Could not read from

2008/6/27 Néstor Amigo Cairo [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Are you using 64 bit version?? I'm gonna try it better today. BTW, I'm
using Ubuntu Dapper server, not Gutsy. I have the same problem with 32
bit version in a laptop, anyways. I'm telling you!!

 2008/6/27 Jamie Strandboge [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

[Bug 243425] Re: please merge debianutils-2.29

2008-06-27 Thread Kees Cook
This looks good. Some things to fix:

- after you've gotten everything built and ready for upload, you'll need to run
../merge-genchanges from in the source tree, redirected into the
../$PKG...source.changes file so that all the changes since the last Ubuntu
upload appear in the changes file.
- for next time, to help reviewers, generate two files:
  - delta between current debian and current ubuntu (e.g. debdiff
debianutils_2.29.dsc debianutils_2.29ubuntu1.dsc) which shows Ubuntu's changes
  - delta between old Ubuntu and new Ubuntu (e.g. debdiff
debianutils_2.28.6ubuntu3 debianutils_2.29ubuntu1.dsc) which shows what changed
in Debian.

Once you've got the corrected (and signed) source.changes file up on
rookery, I'll be happy to sponsor it (I already generated the debdiffs
and looked them over).

Thanks!

2008-06-27 Thread ThomasNovin
Same problem here. I can reproduce this with both VLC and Totem.

Using ~/.gvfs/sharename instead works great.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

ii libsmbclient 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.3
ii gvfs 0.2.4-0ubuntu2

This seems like a showstopper for 8.04.1!

[Bug 243431] Re: Can't copy to disk mounted under a Samba share if space doesn't exist in the share

2008-06-27 Thread Parthan
Thank you for taking your time to file this bug and help make Ubuntu
better. As far as I have enquired, when you mount a remote file system
on your local machine using your samba share, may be on a different
partition, still it's size is only the size of the source file system
and not of the local filesystem. Hence a 5MB remote FS mounted on a 10MB
local FS is still 5MB only, as the remote FS can't take anything more
than 5MB. Thus, what you are reporting is most probably not a bug at all
but an existing constraint rather. If nobody else can confirm this as
wrong, we should be closing this bug.

[Bug 243438] [NEW] No sound 82801G (ICH7 Family)

2008-06-27 Thread Mitchell 'Ixi' Savage
Public bug reported:

I have a Toshiba Satellite p105-s6024. The sound worked in Windows, but
when I installed Ubuntu I didn't leave a partition for it, so now all I
have is Ubuntu. These are the laptop specs I get when I put in sudo
lshw are in the attachment.

I'm really new to linux, but decided to jump in head first, so even
though I followed the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting?action=showredirect=DebuggingSoundProblems
to the best of my abilities I may have still messed up somewhere down
the line.

When I type aplay -l this is what I get:
 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: CONEXANT Analog [CONEXANT Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: Conexant Digital [Conexant Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

As far as I can tell the next step would have been to check the alsamixer.
It says that my card is HDA Intel and that the chip is Conexant CX20551
(Waikiki)
My master volume control box is 100100 and there's a little green box above
it that has 00 in it. If I hit m it turns into a grey box with MM in it. So
I left it on the green one. Same thing with the box next to it labeled PCM. The
last box doesn't have a white, green, and red volume bar coming out of it. It's
just the little green box with 00 and its labeled IEC958.

[Bug 164016] Re: laptop does not suspend or hibernate

I tried

And did a suspend. The screen goes black and then there is a lot of disk
activity and the fan goes crazy. After about 5 mins the laptop goes into a
suspend state. I was then able to wake from suspend. I haven't waited this long
before so echo 1 or 2 might have got the same behaviour.

[Bug 243271] Re: Open Office Spreadsheet Sheet Copy error

2008-06-27 Thread Derek Abson
To protect a reference to sheet1, say, before copying sheet containing
reference to sheet1, prefix sheet1 with $ sign. Then reference to sheet1
becomes $sheet1 in original sheet and remains $sheet1 in generated copy.

I'm not really sure if it should normally be necessary to protect
references embedded in sheets to other sheets, but it is at least it's a
work around!

[Bug 243431] Re: Can't copy to disk mounted under a Samba share if space doesn't exist in the share

2008-06-27 Thread Ashley Kyd
Additionally, I have verified that Samba is writing to both devices, and
not writing to the original file system underneath the mount.

To be clear, I believe there is a bug in the way Nautilus calculates
free disk space in this circumstance.

I've attached a screenshot of what Nautilus says, and the output of df
-h on the server. I've helpfully scribbled over it to hopefully make
things clearer.

[Bug 199088] Re: [Hardy] Message: Suspend Problem. Your computer failed to suspend

2008-06-27 Thread Paul Vinson Brown
Hi - I've experienced the same problem with my HP dv6000. BTW, anyone
know how to cancel my decision to don't show me this message again?
I'd like to keep seeing it so I can help debug this (if possible).

BTW, there's another, VERY similar bug - probably the same one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/195095

ALSO, on the subject of the AWFUL screeching sound you get when waking
up the computer -- it's due to this little guy right here: /usr/share
/gnome-power-manager/gpm-suspend-failure.wav

It's interesting that the other warning sounds there are barely
noticable clicks, boops and bips, but this one will knock your teeth out
-- and usually in the MORNING of all times. But hey, at least I'm awake
now.

I guess darthsabbath told us how to disable sounds for failure
situations, but I think a better solution might be to just replace that
wav file with something a little more tame. Your choice.

I'll try and attach the appropriate log files...

[Bug 243431] Re: Can't copy to disk mounted under a Samba share if space doesn't exist in the share

2008-06-27 Thread Ashley Kyd
Sorry, I mightn't have been clear here. The 10MB file system is mounted
to a directory inside the 5MB file system on the remote server.

When I mount the share on my client I see 5MB of free space, and the
directory/mount where the 10MB filesystem is mounted.

I can write to either file system, but can not write more than 5MB
regardless of which file system I put it on.

I hope this clears things up.

[Bug 243431] Re: Can't copy to disk mounted under a Samba share if space doesn't exist in the share

2008-06-27 Thread Parthan
To put it better, a samba shared FS on a local system is still
representing a remote FS and the operation you want to do on it are
nothing but what you want to be done on the remote FS. Thus, when the
remote FS has only 5MB size it wouldn't be allowing any operation
running out of space, like copying an 8MB file to it. When this remote
FS is mounted on a local FS, it still needs to reflect the same
character or else it doesn't fit as an ideal sharing of a remote FS
locally. Hence, it shouldn't allow you to copy a file to the locally
mounted shared FS, when the file is bigger than the space available in
remote FS. If it allows you to copy it to locally mounted+shared FS, it
doesn't make sense as it still can't be reflected on the remote server
due to non-availability of space.

Thus it is not a bug, but rather the most logical response not to allow
copying a 8MB file over a remote shared FS of max size available=5MB,
but locally mounted on an FS which has max avail size=10MB(as a local
FS, but not when it represents the remote FS). If you can prove
otherwise, please feel free to reopen this bug. Thanks.

** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Invalid

Re: [Bug 192720] Re: Loading b43legacy freezes computer

2008-06-27 Thread David Fokkema
@Martin:

Please don't use this. While it does work, it is not a clean way of
doing things. Deleting things is ugly, especially since the next kernel
update will render your system unusable again (since it reinstalls the
deleted files). Also, there is a clean(er) way, which probably should be
documented instead of the 'deleting things way'.

1. Download the ubuntu alternate install cd (mind the 'alternate').
2. Install your system using this (yes, it uses debian-installer instead
of a live cd approach). Write down the chosen root partition
(/dev/sda1 ?)
3. Reboot again from CD and choose: 'Rescue a broken system'
4. Say yes to a couple of things and then choose the correct root
partition (you wrote it down, didn't you?)
5. Execute a shell in the root partition:

# cd /etc/modprobe.d
# vim blacklist (or use your favorite command-line editor)
add the line: 'blacklist b43legacy' (without the quotes)
save and exit
# exit

6. Reboot

Then, hook up to a cable or use a supported usb wifi card, enable
updates, install kernel updates, remove the blacklist line and reboot.
It should work now. If not, re-add the blacklist line and come back.

Good luck!

David

[Bug 159026] Re: Lenovo Thinkpad x41 Tablet and X60 Tablet rotate events

2008-06-27 Thread Florian Hackenberger
The scripts as well as the rotate daemon work fine on Ubuntu Hardy on an
X61t here. I modified the scripts as follows to start/stop the rotate
daemon as needed. The daemon is only useful when in tablet mode,
therefore starting it using an init script is not ideal IMO. Adding /
removing the kernel module within the swivel scripts might not be what
you want though.

[Bug 243442] [NEW] dot/kprof runs forever consuming all available memory

2008-06-27 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: graphviz

I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop running pure up-to-date Hardy. I tried
to use dot from graphviz to visualize a graph produced by kprof for a
program of mine, but I have found that it is unable to handle this
particular graph file properly. The problem behaves differently with
different output plugins. SVG works fine, but all other output types
that I have tried have either caused dot to run forever and rapidly
consume all available memory (jpg, gif) or have produced files that
cause that in whatever program I try to view them with (ps, png). I have
2 GB of RAM, and yet this bug chews through it in a matter of seconds.

[Bug 238293] Re: Hardy cannot print to Epson Photo R2400

2008-06-27 Thread Frank Ickstadt
Hi there,

I've got the same problem with my Epson Stylus C82. I've tried to print to this
device using an Edimax printserver (1x parallel, 2 x USB) using the parallel
port. The print process died throwing the message (CUPS 1.3.7 Hardy
webinterface):
/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster failed

In Errorlog is following line:
(/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster) crashed on signal 11!

I've attached the errorlog in debug mode.

I've tried several applications (firefox, gThumb,...) and document types
(pdf, html,...) the result is always the same. C82 won't print.

BTW:
1) Using printserver from W2k the C82 print properly!
2) Printing out of Hardy to my Konica Minolta 5430DL color laser printer, the
output is OK

regards,

Frank/frigg

[Bug 146924] Re: Time went backwards + freeze for domU's with kernel 2.6.22-xen

2008-06-27 Thread janevert
I'm seeing this both on dom0 and domU with ...-19.34.
As far as I can tell, there's no relation between seeing this on dom0 and domU.
However, there seem to be no side-effects.
(this is an amd64 install on both dom0 and domU and xen 3.2.1 from debian)

[Bug 243431] Re: Can't copy to disk mounted under a Samba share if space doesn't exist in the share

2008-06-27 Thread Parthan
Can you put your case more clearly?

* What's the size of space available in the source FS
* What's the size of the partition you are trying to mount the samba share on?
(looks like /home/ash/Backups is your target for mount)
* What's the size of the file you are trying to copy to the source FS, through
the mounted partition?
* The screenshot states /home on /dev/hda7 to be 14Gigs and /home/ash/Backups
on /dev/hdb2 to be 284Gigs. Where are these hda7 and hdb2 located? Where is
your mounted shared FS present - hda7 or hdb2?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 243449] [NEW] screensaver ignores mouse action on second display

2008-06-27 Thread janevert
Public bug reported:

I've got a dual-monitor system without xinerama. So there are two displays,
:0.0 and :0.1.
Whenever I'm working for longer periods on the .1 display using only the mouse
then screensaver kicks in just as if it didn't notice the mouse usage.

This is a x86_64 gutsy install with, among others,
ii gnome-screensaver 2.22.2-0ubuntu1 GNOME
screen saver and locker
ii xserver-xorg 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 the
X.Org X server
ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu9.2Xorg X
server - core server
ii xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:1.2.0-1ubuntu2
X.Org X server -- evdev input driver
ii xserver-xorg-input-kbd 1:1.2.2-3ubuntu1
X.Org X server -- keyboard input driver
ii xserver-xorg-input-mouse 1:1.2.3-2
X.Org X server -- mouse input driver

I'll attach the xorg.conf I use.

[Bug 106427] keyboard timing problem

2008-06-27 Thread handy
Hi,

I can not help you with this problem, beyond saying that the problem I
experienced was due to the on board USB controller. I turned this
controller off in the BIOS, installed a PCI USB card. This solved my
problem completely.

You may try turning off the USB controller on your machine to see if it
is responsible for your keyboard timing problem.

By the way, my keyboard was a PS/2, not a USB.

Strange bug I know.

I hope this helps you.

Regards,

handy
