[Bug 246170] [NEW] NetworkManager does not connect to wireless networks without Xorg
Public bug reported: When booting a computer without Xorg graphical interface (from a tty), NetworkManager successfully setup ethernet devices with DHCP and the network is available and working. However, it does not do the same with wireless networks even if the good user is logged. Steps to reproduce : 1. Prerequisites, A working wireless connexion correctly configured with nm-applet, no wired connexion. 2. Alter Xorg /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to make sure that Xorg will fail after a reboot, or simply remove gdm from init.d 3. Reboot your computer 4. Once you get to a tty, log yourself on. 5. Try to access the network (sudo apt-get update, ping google.ca). Result: Accessing the network won't work. However, it will work if you have a ethernet cable plugged. [Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new
I spent the better part of an afternoon fighting this problem (or one much like it) on my laptop. Free nv driver works, but the restricted driver causes really obnoxious stalls, to the point where the app dims out multiple times for several seconds on some pages. Page which demonstrates the behavior most severely (ironically): http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2008/02/firefox-3-ultimate-feature-performance/ I saved a local copy of the CSS, and did a binary search to find the offending CSS. Here it is: #page { background: url(images/structure/backgroundColumns.png) repeat-y; background-position: 3px; margin-top: 50px; width: 970px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 1px solid #D9D9D9; z-index: 10; } Readding pretty much anything on the #page entity causes rendering stalls. I started readding individual lines from this chunk, but there didn't seem to be one particular culprit. It seems that most/all of these lines contribute to the sluggishness somehow, to varying degrees. -- Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223238 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 212028 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212028 I saw the other two results with keywords [xubuntu, windows, partitions, mount]. One of the two was this one. [Bug 246172] [NEW] Hardy : suspend and hibernate fail on resume.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pm-utils Hardy : problem with suspend and hibernate on a Toshiba laptop. The arrival of pm-utils, included with Hardy, has been for my computer a disaster. I use Hardy 8.04.1 I own a laptop Toshiba A80, with Pentium M and Intel 915 (I think it's a i810 driver) and Centrino. No fancy cards. Suspend and hibernate have been working with Dapper, Edgy, Feisty and Gutsy. I still keep, if need be, a full disk image of my Gutsy. Hardy is working perfectly well except for these following pm-utils related matters . - using button Arrêter (Stop), shutdown nearly completes. Arrived nearly at the end, the process hangs. I have to use Ctrl Alt Del two times to stop my computer. - using button Mettre en veille (suspend to RAM) suspend the computer like usual. But I cannot resume : all I get is a black screen and a blinking cursor. I need to start again by hard reset. - The same happens for button Hiberner (hibernate) where it's just impossible to resume and I have to start again the computer. - When using the button redemarrer (start again), it dutifully stops but cannot start again by its own. To finish, I do not know if it's related, when starting the computer I have a brand new error message telling me Intel_rng : FWH not detected. A bug of this kind had been reorted before but I saw no solution. It's not a hardware failure because when I install again Gutsy, this message does not appear. It's related to Hardy. [Bug 236051] Re: main inclusion review for openbabel
Geoff, thanks for the follow-up! Seems that we should get 2.2.0-final into Intrepid (we have beta5 at the moment). Jonathan, any chance you could test the 2.2.0-1 from Debian experimental? If it works, we should sync it over. I do consider it security sensitive in a way that such file formats are often taken from unknown third-party sources. Thus this provides the classical vector of putting a crafted .cml (or other format) somewhere and luring people to open it, which would then run arbitrary code on their systems. Of course our current measures of SSP, ASLR, and FORTIFY_SOURCE make this hard to do, but a general source code review still can't hurt. [Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices
I also caved in and inserted a new pci-card with a USB 2.0 controller and some ports. Two really surprising things happened: First, I would have thought it necessarry to disable the onboard (motherboard) USB controller, since that was the one not working with ehci_hcd. (I base this on the fact that I got the reset-errors even without using any USB devices connected to the ports, as if the host controller itself had problems...) This was not correct, even when this is enabled and ehci_hcd now loaded, everything works without a glitch, under high stress! Second, I thought the onboard (motherboard) USB controller/ports would be useless after disabling the controller in BIOS for these. The really strange thing is that now (since I did not need to disable USB in BIOS I tested this) the onboard USB ports suddenly work at full speed also. I simply do not understand how this can be. It is as if the mere presence of the new controller causes the problem to go away... -- ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/88746 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 66760] Re: palette indexes in eft-theme.c should not be prefixed with 0x
The attached branch is surely wrong. For example, it changes 0x156 to 156. Those are different numbers! (As such, the statement in the bug report that they are short integers from 0 to 255 is also incorrect.) Did you test this change? Also, please use UNRELEASED in the changelog rather than a distribution name when you aren't the one who's going to be making the upload, to reduce confusion. It's probably OK in principle to make this change since it brings usplash's example theme into line with e.g. usplash-theme-ubuntu. -- palette indexes in eft-theme.c should not be prefixed with 0x https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/66760 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 246189] [NEW] Nautilus can't open usb flash drive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Hardy Heron, Nautilus 2.22.3 When inserting a USB flash drive (formatted vfat) the USB drive icon appears in Places|Computer. Double-clicking this yields the generic Nautilus Unable to mount location - Can't mount file dialog. Putting gnome-mount -v -b -d /dev/sdc1 into a Terminal yields happy messages and a mounted device. Double-clicking on the USB drive icon still yields the error dialog. Removing the flash drive (after a umount) causes the USB drive icon to disappear. So, I can use the drive at the command line. No graphical interface; Nautilus isn't working. [Bug 232481] Re: no shutdown
Nope. I used the nv driver (in xorg.conf), but no difference. The system still hangs in X. On my laptop (with the intel GPA),I installed a new downloaded kubuntu 8.04, and all went fine. The shutdown now works. Re: [Bug 215614] Re: Evolution Exchange unreliability in Hardy
I can second this observation. Eventually Evolution comes out of the frozen state but then it is not useable on the Exchange-part. Please advise on some debugging sessions so we can provide sufficient info for correction. On 07/07/08 09.00, Tim Richardson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: It's completely unusable for me. With an exchange account enabled, I get an Evolution freeze within seconds. even when I am replying to an email from my imap account. I get nothing very useful from console output if I run it from a shell. It doesn't crash, it just freezes. Disabling the exchange account immediately brings back a stable Evolution. I followed the clean install instructions above, and I did a reinstall of Exchange, but it made no difference. I have all the hardy repositories installed, updates and proposed updates. I will try making a new user to see if that helps. -- Evolution Exchange unreliability in Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215614 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. [Bug 181940] Re: Turn off monitor via xrandr crashes xscreensaver in resize_screensaver_window()
mehturt, to find someone's PPA just click their name in launchpad (and go to Overview) and you'll find the PPA in the menu. [Bug 224160] Re: ATI Mobility FireGL + hardy: GL Segmentation fault
Hi! I have the same problem. I use hardy (64bit), have a ATI Radeon Xpress card, fglrx installed. Programs with GL won't run - they crash with a segmentation fault. Same as above, only running sudo glxinfo gives the correct info. But as I am not very experienced with linux, I don't know how exactly to change the rights and in which directories.
