I was supposed to see a file to delete at this point but I did not so I

After I did this I no longer got the message that updates were waiting.

I think the apt-get clean may have deleted my sources.list. What is the
full path to sources.list?

Also do you think I fixed the problem or just suppressed it?

Thanks,

[Bug 231118] Re: [ooo-build] [hardy] openoffice calc hung when pressing enter

2008-07-12 Thread Roger Franz
Just the other day - after upgrading to Hardy Heron on Kubuntu: Selected
one cell of an existing functional spreadsheet. Edited the formula. Hit
return. Hung the spreadsheet and the whole system, crashed the system
(screeching halt followed by powerdown). First time I've had that happen
in a long time.

The tab key, on the other hand, worked fine. And after I used the tab
key a couple of times after editing, editing and hitting return had no
effect. Don't know if that helps.

[Bug 125250] Re: Don't recognise USB Pendrive - sr0: disc change detected.

2008-07-12 Thread Ohb01
This issue seems to be gradually getting fixed on my system (Dell
Dimension 4700 with BIOS Rev. A10). In contrast wit the experience of
Alessio Treglia's (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
source-2.6.20/+bug/125250/comments/12 ), all of the USB problems seem to
be resolved for me if I use kernel release 2.6.24-19-generic (Hardy).

I'm not sure if one or more automatic update(s) have changed something.
I have the Proposed repository enabled, and I always accept kernel- and
driver-related updates. I've noticed that there have been quite a few
changes to 2.6.24-19-generic that start out in Proposed and eventually
make their way to Recommended.

Even mounting the USB camera works in 2.6.24-19-generic for me, but only after
following the instructions at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4979460postcount=2

With kernel 2.6.20-16-generic (Hardy), everything seems to work, except
that the USB camera importing errors out -- images are listed in F-Spot,
but fail to actually import. I'm not sure if this is an issue in F-Spot
or something to do with the more general USB bug that is the main topic
of this discussion. (I can provide more details on the error if it would
help.)

I got into kernel issues originally due to Hibernate/Suspend problems,
and unfortunately 2.6.24-19-generic still does not do it for me.

For now, I boot into 2.6.24-19-generic if I need to import photos, and
restart into 2.6.20-16-generic if I need to be able to
Suspend/Hibernate.

[Bug 247799] [NEW] Unmount volume in XFCE - Xubuntu Hardy Heron - reults in unkown error and two open windows

2008-07-12 Thread jimmy the saint
Public bug reported:

When I attempt to unmount my external Seagate HD I get an unknown
error and two new windows open up displaying the contents of the drive.
Also when I initially plug in the drive, it opens two windows rather
than one. The same thing happened with the live cd when I attempted to
unmount partitions with gparted. I would get a mess of windows, two per
partition, and the partitions would not unmount. I had to use the
standard Ubuntu live cd to repartition the drives. I imagine this has
something to do with Thunar's volume management, but I don't know how to
troubleshoot this. This doesn't happen on my USB thumb drive for some
reason. As a result, I have to simply unplug the drive even though it
is mounted.

[Bug 247798] [NEW] Comment tool does not work properly if static word wrap is on

2008-07-12 Thread Katsudon
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.04, kile 2.0.0, package 1:2.0-1

If static word wrap is enabled (Settings-Configure
Kile-Editor-Editing-Enable static word wrap) and a longer paragraph
is selected (several lines, each line close in length to the maximal
length as defined by the static word wrap) then Ctrl-D (Comment) tool
does not really comment the paragraph in the right way.

Example: set wrap words at: 80, then attempt to comment the paragraph:

a a a aaa aaa aaa
a a a aaa aaa aaa
aaa aaa

results with:

% a a a aaa aaa aaa

% a a a aaa aaa aaa

% aaa aaa

in other words, there are two lines which consist of and are not
commented.

[Bug 195180] Re: user-mountable (nfs) filesystems are not showing up in Computer view of nautilus

2008-07-12 Thread Peter Garrett
This still exists in Ubuntu 8.04.1

Not only that, but if you right click a directory with the intention to
share it as NFS, you get:

! Sharing service is not installed. You need to install the Windows
networks sharing service in order to share your folders

This is demonstrably false, since I am able to share my folders
using nfs-kernel-server as I have always done.

I don't use Windows... How is this remotely applicable? It also gives
the impression that the only sharing option is a Windows option.

[Bug 247627] Re: update manager proposes updates to not installed packages

2008-07-12 Thread Dimitrios Symeonidis
Cutting in here...
By check Vojtech means to re-read the repositories. In update-manager, that's
the check button. On the command line, it's 'sudo apt-get update'.
It seems to me that you did not remove all apache2 packages. You can see what's
still installed by typing in a terminal: 'aptitude search ~iapache' (the ~i
means installed, it will search for installed packages that contain the word
apache). Then I suggest removing them one by one...

However, you might need these, since the information of lighttpd
('aptitude show lighttpd') suggests the apache2-utils package...

Anyways, it's not the end of the world if you have packages on your
system that you don't use.

Definitely not a bug, marking as invalid...

2008-07-12 Thread Andy Warburton
I had the same problem, 'send/receive' permanently faded-out and unable to
access mail, but other access (web, updates etc) all working fine. However
following hint above, I found the 'work-online' entry in File menu, clicked on
it and now everything works fine again.
Not entirely obvious though- send/receive as a problem doesn't show up in
evolution help FAQs or searches

[Bug 247803] [NEW] desktop strangely shifted

2008-07-12 Thread atreju
Public bug reported:

My desktop is strangely shifted to the right side of the screen, leaving
an inaccessible space on the left. There is an panel on the left which
just leaves a blank space when removed. The screenshots should explain
this better than I can.

Usually the panel is on the left. For the first screenshot I moved it to the
top of the screen. Note the blank space left behind by the panel.
For the second screenshot I moved it to the right. Then the part of the panel
that was in the blank space remains there (top left corner of screen).

[Bug 30842] Re: Trash not emptying on kubuntu !

2008-07-12 Thread zephy
I think I am having the same issue with Ubuntu Hardy 8.04. I noticed my
root disk usage doubled in size and when i found the .local/trash folder
full of garbage, I searched and found this post. It might just be a
coincident, but I had just started using gksudo to launch a nautilis
file browser with root privilegdes so I could move songs files into the
pydance folder under /usr/share/games/... before I noticed this
problem. It may just be I wasn't placing or deleting any files into the
root until then.

Once I realized that crowding my root with all those song files was a
bad idea, I tried to add a PATH to my /home/bin and then moved all the
files there and then deleted them off the root. The disk space didn't
decrease until I went back and shift-deleted the contents in the
/root/.local/trash

Hope this helps, I am a complete newb, so I am just pushing keys here

[Bug 242921] Re: patch to show wifi channel

2008-07-12 Thread mouz
There is additional value to have the channel number in the wifi-radar
GUI. Your patch looks good, although I did not have the chance to apply
and really test it.

Checking out the latest upstream trunk shows the channel column is in
their TODO file. Maybe things speed up a bit if you post a patch against
their latest version to their mailing list. I'd suggest a reply to

I havent run into these yet. the site that says its wrong verion is most
likely due to being beta and most likely the site hasnt updated to use
flash 10 and may be made just for flash 9, you tube i saw no crashes nor
 invaild errrors.
Please remove libflashsupport and set pulse audio as default and please
retry the sites that are crashing. libflashsupport causes most of the
crashes you get from flash that is why i wanted PA and drop
libflashsupport all together. Alexander was also against libflashsupport.
Ty that and let me know if it helps.
The site not accepting it i would have to say its a site issue on the
grounds that youtube works as due most flash sites that i have found.
Please test with multiple flash sites and let me know what ones they are
that you find it gives you invalid flash version again.
It is known that if you play multiple flash videos at same time (i
havent been able to reproduce it in 9 or 10 but poeple are having this
issue) but playing the videos and clicking back(maybe forth) I will as
Alexander where the bug is so i can give you exact problem, but
upstream has to fix that there isnt much we can change with flash but it
does need to be fixed and Adobe has been aware of this issue.

[Bug 247808] [NEW] [needs-packaging] modglue

2008-07-12 Thread Kasper Peeters
Public bug reported:

Modglue is a C++ library with classes for forking external processes
and asynchronous reading from streams. It takes away the burden of all
subtleties involving the Unix fork call. The asynchronous read
facility enables one to read on multiple input streams at the same
time, without losing any of the standard C++ stream facilities.

Some have said copy /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu to
~/.config/menus/applications.menu ... that didn't change anything (i.e. still
nothing in the applications menu), and I noted that
/etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu had been modified by this cleanup too.

Copying a ~/.config/menus/application.menu from another machine and
changing the userid reference in the file didn't help either (menu still
blank).

Finally fixed it (after wasting half a day) by:
cp /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu.dpkg-old ~/.config/menus/applications.menu

(the source file was VERY old... like 6 months, so not a recent
backup)... but that completely fixed it - i.e. all my recently installed
apps are now back in their usual place on the Applications menu.

So, what's the bug here... I think it's :

a) whatever nuked the applications.menu file without making a backup
file first (compare xorg.conf backup files being made in /etc/X11), and

b) alacarte for not behaving better when it's faced with a broken
situation it really should be able to fix up.

c) maybe ask the user is it OK to totally remove your applications menu
content yes/no, before doing it? I would have said no, definitely (that
could have been the default!)

it's strange that downgrading didn't fix the problem...

Will this just a normal update to Hardy 8.04.1 or will it be a new

Since the plan is to replace Firefox 3 with 3.0.1, it'll just come as a

[Bug 206414] Re: package isnt uninstallable and stop upgrade packtage wwwoffle in intrepid ibex

2008-07-12 Thread timothée ruffenach
A solution it's to find for the bug
The probleme is to return exit code in part on code why don't return error code.

The orinige file is : /var/lib/dpkg/info/wwwoffle.prerm

The error is located in line 11 and 13 :
11 invoke-rc.d wwwoffle stop || exit $?
13 /etc/init.d/wwwoffle stop || exit $?

The modified line for resolve the bugs is :
11 invoke-rc.d wwwoffle stop
13 /etc/init.d/wwwoffle stop

I'm to attach file solution in attachment
The new file could be copied is to /var/dpkg/info/ (sudo cp wwwoffle.prerm
/var/lib/dpkg/info/wwwoffle.prerm)
and after type (sudo apt-get install -f) for the upgrade or (soduapt-get
remove wwwoffle) for remove it.

11 invoke-rc.d wwwoffle stop || exit $?
13 /etc/init.d/wwwoffle stop || exit $?

Les lignes modifiés pour la résolution des bugs sont :
11 invoke-rc.d wwwoffle stop
13 /etc/init.d/wwwoffle stop
