[Bug 315774] Re: libsmbclient-dev missing smbc_urlencode in .a in intrepid

2009-01-17 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Quoting the developer commit:
==

[Bug 6022] smbc_urlencode and smbc_urldecode were not exported
- Since the revamp of libsmbclient, there has still been an external
declaration for smbc_urlencode and smbc_urldecode in libsmbclient.h, yet
those functions were renamed and made private. The two choices were to
remove the function names from libsmbclient.h or to make them public
again. The reported requested that they be public. This commit makes it so.

[Bug 316957] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1 .30-2ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: 子 进程 post-installation script 返回了 错误号 1

2009-01-17 Thread ShaunS
Hi,

I am still getting this bug as of 17/01/2009.

My workaround is to install Amarok. Install fails with MySQL 5.1 start
error.

From the my command-line:

sh...@kubuntu:~$ sudo mysqld
mysqld: Table 'mysql.plugin' doesn't exist
090117 22:24:56 [ERROR] Can't open the mysql.plugin table. Please run
mysql_upgrade to create it.
090117 22:24:57 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 0 46409
090117 22:24:57 [ERROR] mysqld: unknown option '--skip-bdb'
090117 22:24:57 [ERROR] Aborting

090117 22:24:57 InnoDB: Starting shutdown...
090117 22:24:58 InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 0 46409
090117 22:24:58 [Note] mysqld: Shutdown complete

I then edit /etc/mysql/my.cnf and comment out the line:
skip-bdb

I then get the error:

sh...@kubuntu:~$ sudo mysqld
mysqld: Table 'mysql.plugin' doesn't exist
090117 22:26:07 [ERROR] Can't open the mysql.plugin table. Please run
mysql_upgrade to create it.
090117 22:26:07 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 0 46409
090117 22:26:07 [ERROR] Fatal error: Can't open and lock privilege tables:
Table 'mysql.host' doesn't exist

If I now install a package (any package) and apt fixes the MySQL problem
(I dont know how exactly) and all is well.

Hope this helps,
Shaun

[Bug 202456] Re: Gnome wine runs all programs without window's minimize button

2009-01-17 Thread André Pirard

We are closing this bug report because it lacks the information we need
to investigate the problem, as described in the previous comments.
Because no one with a running 8.10 would spend 10 min to make a check, I
have spent almost 10 hours of my unavailable time on this and here's the
result ...

1) another more powerful laptop was passing by, with a chance to install
Wine while running liveCD, and I hired it for a while
2) I downloaded and burned 8.10 desktop iso (on 8.04.1+)
Brasero told me that there was a burn error but the CD seemed perfect
3) I booted this CD and, not a given thing, WiFi was running
I ran Synaptic and, despite all sources turned on and updated, there was
no wine to find !!!
4) I asked the owner of this laptop if I could make a partition and he
agreed if I explained him how to make a backup and I made one
5) I fetched and burned 8.10 desktop (on 8.04.1+ again)
Brasero told me that there was a burn error but the CD was perfect
I looked into that, Brasero reports a 'device busy' error and it seems
obvious that it's because the disk has an autorun using the drive at the
same time Brasero wants to check the CD. This seems to be Bug #296146
and I wonder why that bug is incomplete.
6) I wanted to test upgrading 8.04 to 8.10 and, after doing so, WiFi was
not working. This is another bug that took me much time to work around.
Also, there was no shutdown applet but someone who would argue it's just
aesthetics.
7) Having upgraded, I finally found wine in Synaptics and I finally was
able to make the test.

Is that what you required?
That laptop will be away in two weeks.
Please don't wait until then to ask more questions about 8.10.

Almost one year after reporting this bug, the same problem remains
exactly as described, in 8.04.1+ and 8.10+.

Is making these sorts of difficult to do tests the good method to solve
the problem? Or shouldn't the problem rather be analyzed, which I can
help effectively with 8.04 tests when I'm at it without having to
install systems that only other people run?

Friends I advised running Windows applications on 8.04.1 are asking if a
patch will be available for their system and when. What should I reply
to help them not return to Windows?

[Bug 318319] [NEW] Problem with wireless internet connection

2009-01-17 Thread wordsmyth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I've reported this problem before, but have had no response. I recently
upgraded from Ubuntu 8.4 to 8.10 and now find that each time I put my
laptop on hibernate or standby, my wireless internet connection is lost
when I resume. I have to re-boot to get it back. This makes the
hibernate/standby function useless. I didn't have this problem using
Ubuntu 8.4... and I don't have it when I use my ethernet connection with
8.10. Can anyone help to resolve this problem?

[Bug 318157] Re: File roller only extracts files if they have the correct extension, despite mimetype.

2009-01-17 Thread Mirai Warren
Blender doesn't set the right magic bytes at the beginning of an
compressed backup (I think). The freedesktop spec for MIME
http://standards.freedesktop.org/shared-mime-info-spec/shared-mime-
info-spec-0.11.html indicates that more specialised files should have
higher priority (Unified system:The source XML files). It's read as a
less specific gzip though.

bartekw - your latest update seems to suggest that it was just the

Have you tried the latest release of Ubuntu (Intrepid)? Thanks.

2009-01-17 Thread Jouni Mettala
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information.

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-01-17 Thread Hated On Mostly
Testing a possible temporary solution. Try it if you are brave, although
no problems experienced for me.

Try replacing the file ehci_hcd.ko which is located in

/lib/modules/kernel version number-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/host

With the same file from a kernel version that USB transfers work just
fine for you.

For example, I replaced my file on the current system with the ehci_hcd.ko
file from the live CD of Ubuntu v8.04.1, which I found in the following
location:

/lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/host

I am in the middle of preliminary testing, but so far it seems to have
fixed the problem for me using kernel 2.6.27-10. It seems to be giving
me the same performance I get from the live CD in which transfers work
just fine. Will report back later, hopefully someone else with this
problem will try it out and let us know his/her experience.

2009-01-17 Thread Craig73
Andrew, it's been a while since this issue was reported. Are you still
experiencing this problem? Have you tried the latest version of Ubuntu

Are you running ssh-add when log (in a terminal) or ssh-askpass (the
graphical version). A related bug report with the gnome-ssh-askpass
(which I believe is different than ssh-askpass) seems to report a
similiar issue in Ubuntu 8.04, but I am seeking details to confirm.

[Bug 316227] Re: devscripts-dbgsym unistallable in intrepid

2009-01-17 Thread tdflanders
Hi there,

I cannot verify if this is correct for the next two hours, as I am
running dpkg-reconfigure. I will try it out later. I see you have
downloaded the Debian key from the Debian package archive.

I however followed these instructions:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

It should be enough to use der pitti's key. Any other way it is not
uploaded into Intrepid, as the link I posted above shows:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/i386/+search?text=devscripts-
dbgsym

It surprises me that you can install it through downloading, I will try
it out in a two hours.

Please tell me the rules for confirming bugs. Also: if I confirm a bug
are the developers warned automatically, or should I do that?

Cheers,

Thomas

[Bug 177235] Re: slow USB 2.0 drive: it's mounted as USB 1.0, not USB 2.0!

2009-01-17 Thread Hated On Mostly
When I tried to downgrade to 2.6.24-19 it didn't fix the problem.
Looking at the ehci_hcd.ko file after downgrading it appears as if the
file did not get replaced by the ehci_hcd.ko file that is on the live CD
of Ubuntu 8.04.1 (kernel 2.6.24-19). Why that is? I don't know. I would
expect all of the kernel related files to be updated to the version you
install, but that does not appear to be the case, at least for
ehci_hcd.ko.

Right now I am testing out a different temporary fix before doing a
complete reinstall test.

I did some further research:
I installed linux-image2.6.28-4-generic (from jaunty)
rebooted and the irda worked.

I think it's can be done with older(hardy's) kernels too.
If the bug is in the kernel then the older kernel will do it.

[Bug 316423] Re: black screen after intrepid login intel graphics

2009-01-17 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Great you figured out how to write to a file (`lspci -vvnn lspci.txt` in case
you did something more complicated). Xorg.0.log logs what happens from the
X-server starts (just before you see the login screen) until you log out. To
catch any error messages from when things go wrong we need the Xorg.0.log that
is generated when you don't run in safe mode. There are a few ways to do this
(I list two in case one doesn't work)
- Log in - get the blank screen (you hear the login sound), then do Ctrl+F2 to
get a text login where you can copy the file to your home directory with `cp
/var/log/Xorg.0.log ~/Xorg.0.log.txt`. Ctrl+F7 will take you back to the blank
screen where you can Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to kill the X-server and get the login
screen again.
- Log in - get the blank screen (you hear the login sound). Do
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. This kills the X-server and starts a new X-session and a
new Xorg.0.log, but the old one is moved to /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old. You can
then log in using failsafe mode and upload that file.

If you look at the file, it should have many lines starting with (II)
intel(0): as opposed to (II) VESA(0): for the failsafe one.

[Bug 315437] Re: gwenview rotate causes jpg quality loss

2009-01-17 Thread oliver.w
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 286858 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286858

Dear Jonathan,

any info on my questions already? I still do not understand what is
going wrong here. The info is available in the picture. If I know what
the issue is, I can change the pics accordingly.

Further it would be good if gwenview gives a warning about the quality
when it sets to default. Or when it is possible to change the default
quality by the user.

Thanks in advance.
Oliver

[Bug 310940] Re: Mounting a DAV resource fails with http error

2009-01-17 Thread Dan Trevino
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in nautilus.

[Bug 277404] Re: hp laserjet postscript text print does not print some characters

2009-01-17 Thread Galapagos
Do you want me to post the requested output here too? I'd be more than
willing to help. I did some more tests today with the following results
on my HP LaserJet 4100 printer, connected via JetDirect:

- HP LaserJet 4100 Postscript PPD fails to print correctly
- HP LaserJet 4100 MFP Postscript PPD fails to print correctly
- HP LaserJet 4200 Postscript PPD fails to print correctly
- HP Color Laserjet 4500 Postscript PPD SUCCEEDS!! to print correctly (as
mentioned by rbmorse)
- HP LaserJet 4050 Postscript PPD SUCCEEDS!! to print correctly

Since the LaserJet 4050 is very similar to the LaserJet 4100 I own I'll
use the 4050-PPD for now. But if I can be of any help to sort these
problems out I'd be more than willing to help.

[Bug 136828] Re: encrypted mmc not closed correctly on suspend

2009-01-17 Thread lherrmann
I'm having the same issues with an encrypted SD-card in my Dell Inspiron
Mini with a fully updated, fresh install of Intrepid.

After supsend/resume, I can't access the encrypted partition of the SD-
card. I can freely umount/mount it even if I remove the card from the
slot. I can even browse the directories of that partition, but I can't
access any of the files.

Only a reboot or a manual cryptsetup luksClose fixes this.

[Bug 112288] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] OOCalc: Insert external data link to .txt from Apache not working

2009-01-17 Thread Chris Cheney
Not considered a bug by upstream.

This is the help file about Link to External Data:
Inserts data from an HTML, Calc, or Excel file into the current sheet as a
link. The data must be located within a named range.
To import data from a *.csv or *.txt file, choose File - Open and then select
the Files of type Text CSV.

So, it is not a bug.

[Bug 318302] Re: Going to battery causes slowdown and cursor seizure

2009-01-17 Thread ST47
Sure. Here are before/after stats:

Otherwise idle, just sitting here:
CPUs at 5% each (x2) user, 1% sys, almost 2 GB memory, (89 MB free), 0 swap
in use, load 0.03, 0.04, 0.09. No CUP hogs, xorg using 1.5% mem, nautilus,
gnome-panel, gnome-terminal, and a few perls using 1% each.

As soon as I unplug:
CPUs spike, xorg steady at 30%, no memory change, load average spikes to 0.62,
0.19, 0.13

No change plugging back in.

After my change-account/quit/log in hack, xorg back down to 4%ish
