[Bug 264374] Re: package bacula-director-pgsql 2.2.8-5ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-01-20 Thread Ante Karamatić
Deven what kind of an error do you get? The one about 'dpkg: --compare-

'Config error: Cannot open config file /etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf: No
such file or directory'?

This is the bug about first one, and this was solved in Hardy (fix is
committed in proposed repository).

[Bug 105251] Re: NetworkManager wrongly releases DHCP IP

Marius: no, the reason for that is, that dhclient-script is not started.
Just uncomment the dhclient-scprit entry and set it to the right path
does fix that issue and you get the debugging output. But then it does
not return to nm. wich is the real issue.

edgy has not been supported since April 2008, so we will not do any
official backports for it any more. So if you are still running edgy,
you need to install your own package from upstream sources. However, I
urgently recommend you to upgrade to a supported Ubuntu release like
8.04 LTS.

 [This is an automatic notice.]

We'd like to forward your bug upstream, however upstream requires
that you first test it against their newer driver code.

To save you the effort of building the driver from source, we've built
packages for the driver and its new dependencies.

So you have a couple options:

  1. Download and test .debs for intrepid, from:
 https://edge.launchpad.net/~intel-gfx-testing/+archive

  -or-

  2. Download and test the Jaunty alpha-2 (or newer) Live CD,
(which includes a beta of the new xserver 1.6 as well).

[Bug 246888] Re: firefox 3 on ubuntu hardy : downloading is impossible

2009-01-20 Thread Jacques
Hi,

I did not meet this bug anymore for a while now (with version 2 or 3). I
think it can be considered as fixed. Now, I'm not 100% sure it was
linked with firefox. I'm using a netgear DG834G modem/router. I did a
firmware downgrade since I heard that the latest release (V3.01.32) had
a bug in the routing layer. So I downgraded to the unofficial V3.01.31
release. I have the feeling, but It's not a certainty, that since then
the bug disappeared. Of course I did also automated software upgrade of
ubuntu, including corrections for firefox. This could also have
corrected the bug.

Best,
Jacques

2. pdftops filter works partly: paper is picked properly for single print jobs
with only one paper format, but a print file with a combination of A4 and A3 is
complately printed to A4 paper with scale down. This is at least much better
than cropping. Great! Thanks!
For my need here right now that functionality would be sufficient, but wouldn't
it be good if combined formats are also printed correctly?
3. mentioned restrictions: Does that mean that if i print from an application i
cannot choose the paper? That would also mean if i print an A3 document on a
printer that is set to A4 as standard, i don't have to pick the paper and it is
printed correctly? Our printers here would anyway reject a letter sized print
job unless the printer is set to make it fit on a A4 paper, which is what i
have set on all printers here.

Re: [Bug 318818] Re: Intrepid fails LSB 3.2 tests on foomatic-filters

2009-01-20 Thread Martin Pitt
Steve Langasek [2009-01-20 6:50 -]:
This does not fit the SRU process as described at
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates. Micro-release exceptions
for SRUs must be approved by the TB, based on the presence of an upstream QA
process that provides a reasonable guarantee that the new release will be
regression-free relative to what we released with.

Please note that this is not a general request to put in new
microreleases. The complete diff was provided, and we do not plan to
put in further upstream updates. This is just a bunch (some 10)
individual commits, and I don't particularly care whether they are
called '4.0 final' or 'merge fixes from upstream'.

Which of these changes do you believe meet the SRU process's requirement to
only fix high-impact bugs? I will say that I don't think LSB test failures
 are themselves an SRU justification.

That was my concern as well. The other fixes are regressions from
hardy, and thus acceptable in an SRU. How much of the diff is related
solely to LSB compatibility, and would disappear if that was taken
out?

[Bug 306702] Re: gcalctool 5.24.1, won't switch to rad

2009-01-20 Thread Martin Pitt
This is the debdiff with autoconf and po updates removed, thus the
actually important bits.

Which of those fixes already meet the SRU criteria, i. e. fix
regressions from hardy? The other need to be trivial.

The changes generally look good to me, and incorrect calculations are
indeed a nuisance, so this looks acceptable to me. However, we should
clarify the regression status.

[Bug 238835] Re: persistent failure with DVD mounting, reading, writing

2009-01-20 Thread jthias
This is an update to my previous comment. I downloaded compiz-ccsm (to
manage the effects of compiz), enabled Expo plugin (under compiz), and
this has, to my complete surprise, fixed my problem. Now DVDs autmount
and play without any problems. I have an GeForce Fx5200 video card.
Originally I had used the proprietary Nvidia driver for my video card
when prompted by the system because I wanted to take advantage of the
eye candy compiz has to offer. The default compiz effects for compiz
under ubuntu 8.10 include Desktop Wall, but my DVD won't mount under
this plugin. It wasn't until I downloaded the the compiz-ccsm and
enabled the Expo plugin that DVD automouting started to work. Very
strange, but I've had consistent results, so to summarize my situation:
automounting DVDs doesn't work if compiz is disabled, but works if
compiz is enabled and Expo plugin is used.

[Bug 318818] Re: Intrepid fails LSB 3.2 tests on foomatic-filters

2009-01-20 Thread Till Kamppeter
The fixes which I did to make it LSB-compliant are also regressions
against hardy, most prominently the security bug 318816. They also
include that things like wrong treatment of supplying string or
numerical option settings which are out of range and that PJL option
settings do not get correctly inserted into the output data stream
(which cuses also bug 303691). All problems described in
http://bugs.linuxbase.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2423 are also failures of the
basic functionality and regressions against Hardy (Hardy shipped
foomatic-filters 3.0.x).

[Bug 296710] Re: warning: ehci_hcd loaded AFTER uhci_hcd and ohci_hcd

2009-01-20 Thread Dave Lentz
This issue still occurs in linux-source-2.6.28-4.11 kernels (jaunty)
Thanks for the workaround, fishor. I was trying all sorts of crazy things like
editing modules.dep and using modconf, but I later found out that most of my
work wasn't applicable because update-modules is deprecated.

BTW, this problem was really easy to solve on Arch Linux. I just specified
echi_hcd before ohci_hcd in the MODULES= section of /etc/rc.conf
Sometimes, I wish Debian administration was a little easier.

[Bug 52654] Re: Evolution will not use GNOME proxy settings of http_proxy environment variable to access Exchange via WebDAV

2009-01-20 Thread hinge
Is there any sort of work around for this?
Is it fixed, thus it is just me who know nothing

This is what I get:

mar...@myhost:~$ gconftool-2 -a /system/http_proxy
 use_http_proxy = true
 use_authentication = false
 host =
 authentication_user =
 ignore_hosts = [localhost,127.0.0.0/8,*.local]
 use_same_proxy = true
 authentication_password =
 port = 8080

What should it look like?

[Bug 318923] Re: Far too many bash scripts are sensitive to GREP_OPTIONS

2009-01-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve
Ubuntu.

I definitely don't think that the update-grub script should be changed
to handle non-standard GREP_OPTIONS values set; use of grep in scripts
is common practice and setting such options will break many of those
scripts, including many scripts which don't originate with Ubuntu. So
as a 'grub' bug, this is invalid because there is no change that should
be made here.

As for trying to fix this in bash: while update-grub is a bash script,
the vast majority of shell scripts on Ubuntu invoke /bin/sh, which is
dash rather than bash. So fixes that depend on bash-specific variables
will be an incomplete solution.

It may be appropriate to implement a general fix for this in the base-
files package.

[Bug 316974] Re: Mysql dead after update

2009-01-20 Thread Dinxter
i didnt have 5.0 installed but had tables left over from that version
when installing 5.1. i'm not sure what 5.0 version the tables were from
though, i think it was probably the one on intrepid release. when 5.1
didnt complete postinst properly i tried purging 5.1, installing
jaunty's 5.0 and upgrading to 5.1 but this didnt help. my post above was
from this stage. i ended up purging the old tables and reinstalling 5.1
with no problems. i havent managed to recreate the problem installing
5.0 from jaunty, creating a few tables and upgrading to 5.1

[Bug 294391] Re: Firewire IPOD does not work since upgrade to 8.10

2009-01-20 Thread Stefan Richter
I just remembered another old issue with FireWire iPods which was never
addressed in the drivers. (Can't process more than one page table
element.) It seems that performance enhancements in the block layer of
newer kernels changed that problem from a theoretical one into an actual
one.

Alas it looks like there is no sysfs switch or module parameter which
could enable a necessary workaround. I will look into this and report
back later. In the meantime, please try the two suggestions nevertheless
and post your results here. Thanks.

[Bug 222458] Re: /lib/udev/hdparm Compares Against $DEVNAME.

2009-01-20 Thread Bas Ploeger
Hello Jakob,

I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid. I don't know whether I experience that bug,
I have not looked at the apm settings yet. But I can do so if that's
helping anyone.

I currently only use /etc/hdparm.conf to set spindown_time (-S) and
acoustic_management (-M) on one of my drives (viz. the one that is used
only every now and then for storing backups).

Thanks for the patch, I'll apply it when I have time.

intrepid is not a lts and we got no real user complain about that until
