Re: [Bug 302026] Re: likewise-open prevents local passwords from being changed

2009-04-25 Thread Buddha
That is exactly what happened to me. Save versions etc.

Basically there will not be a fix. Likewise 5 is not supported on ubuntu
8.1...

I am still having no issue with Likewise 5 on Ubuntu 9.04. Am awaiting the
first pam update though with some nervousness as I believe that this was
what caused my issue.

Will make sure I take a full backup of /etc before applying any updates.

2009/4/25 atin al...@tiniusfamily.net

I am also having this issue, but passwd doesn't give me the password
successfully changed message, but give me...

 # passwd allen
 passwd: Authentication token manipulation error
 passwd: password unchanged

If I comment out the entries containing /lib/security/pam_lsass.so from
 common_auth, common_password, and common_account, I can change passwords
and su to local users, but I can no longer authenticate my domain
 account, which was expected.

This problem started occurring after running update. When I first
installed likewise 5.1 on ubuntu 8.10, I did not have any problems using
 domain or local accounts.

[Bug 281188] Re: Panic or segfault in Samba

2009-04-25 Thread Ali Nadalizadeh
I'm being affected by this one for ~9 month(s)
Still no fix or workaround on this bug ?

The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for PID 15316 ().

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
However, the executable could not be found for process 15316.
It may have died unexpectedly, or you may not have permission to debug
the process.

How can I attach a gdb process to the failed samba process to post a
back-trace here ?

[Bug 357824] Re: totem no longer plays movies after resolution has been changed

2009-04-25 Thread zhangning
I meet the same problem.

I find a temporarily solution for this: change your video card driver
to vesa , then totem works.

--
My video card is Intel 865G, and I hear Intel video card driver does not work
well in 9.04. So I guess this may be the cause. So I boot my system in my
friend's computer (a Nvidia video card in his computer), totem work well. This
support my conjecture. Then I add driver vesa to device section in
xorg.conf, restart X, totem works.

[Bug 242400] Re: laptop powers off immediately after login

2009-04-25 Thread Mac
Got it working.

Fix : Upgrade Laptop Bios

How: go to toshiba.com and download the latest version bios for your
model.

My bios was at v1.20 now at v2.00 (hit F2 on boot to see version)

Download the exe file from toshiba - you do not need to be in MS Windows
- safer that way too :-)

Open the exe in ubuntu and extract the ISO image. (1.8mb)

Right click on the iso and burn it to CD.

Boot the laptop off that CD and it will upgrade your bios.

My M35X Toshiba Satellite system is now 100% working.

Mac

To determine VGA type (ati or intel) boot into recovery mode and do:

lspci | grep VGA

The bios update is graphics board specific.

2009-04-25 Thread Bryce Harrington
Christian and Tobias, neither of you have the same backtrace as Pete, as
neither of your crashes reference miValidateTree at all, so I'm unsure
why you're posting to pete's bug? If you're just trying to shanghai his

if you want your issues investigated you're going to have to file them
as separate bug reports.

[Bug 321927] Re: /dev/pts and /dev/shm not mounted on boot

2009-04-25 Thread Ninad S Pundalik
scottywz's workaround was successful. As per bug 360160, I replaced the
mountdevusbfs.sh with the package maintainers version, and it solved the
problem for me.

After seeing the above comments, I checked my incorrectly functioning
mountdevusbfs.sh script which I had backed up, and I confirm that the
Should-Start did not have udev in it.

Also, a diff of the 2 files shows that the earlier script had
mountvirtfs in the Provides line, which is not there in the newer
script. The diff has been attached to bug 360160. Kindly refer to that
for further details.

[Bug 271962] Re: VT-switching from X returns you to X the first time

Yes, all the steps in your TEST CASE work correctly.

I did notice that when there is no graphical session, logging out of a
text session sometimes returns you to GDM and sometimes leaves you on
the text console. But that is much less likely to be annoying than the
current bug.

[Bug 366556] [NEW] Upgrade 8.10 to 9.04 Grub Error 15 on reboot

2009-04-25 Thread JohnD
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Upgraded to 9.04 from 8.10 using update manager. All went well until
reboot when I get

Error 15: File not found

Typed return and at the list of boot choices I typed c to bring up the
grub prompt

Then typed

find /grub/stage1

The system then hung (no disk activity, no response to keyboard).

Restarted the system and got to the grub prompt and tried

find /boot/grub/stage1

The system hung again (no disk activity, no response to keyboard).

Not that the system will not boot for any of the choices available
including recovery and memtest.

System is now unusable.

Notes: The procedure folled above was tried after searching the web and
finding the following link on ubuntuforums.org

which reports similar problem with a fix. Unfortunately the fix does
not work for me.

For me, the issue goes away when booting mesa 7.3 or turning off desktop

that crops up after opening a lot of windows, either via use of mdz's
script (which triggers the freeze in 5-10 min) or after a few hour's of
 normal use.

If your freeze does not match this sequence of steps, you probably are
 having an unrelated freeze bug.

I guess you have a different bug then, because this one happens no
matter what AccelMethod you use nor does it help to disable compiz. It
just takes a little longer for it to occur.

[Bug 187884] Re: Failure to resume from suspend on Lenovo 3000 N100

2009-04-25 Thread Jerome Lacoste
I can confirm this bug. Resume was working at some point, after I had
managed to make it work by fiddling with /etc/acpi-support and kernel
options).

I've made a fresh install of jaunty and resume is broken again. I.e.
resume appears to work but screen is blank and keyboard unresponsive. I
will have to investigate if there's another way of getting it to work
than my previous method. Some changes since my previous install: I am
now using the nv driver instead of the nvidia one.

Then, I have change preferences eth0, by eth1 and add other server to get my

If you don't see what the real bug, you can close it. For my side, it's
ok and in next month I will reinstall Ubuntu

I just checked it again, now in a up to date jaunty. I don't think I
should simply ask to close this bug. But I'm still not able to
reproduce the crash. The following, if you have eth0 www.getmyip.org
in preferences, then first giplet probes eth0, then www.getmyip.org,
if it get's an ip from eth0, it will show the local ip. If eth0 is
missing in preferences, then it probes only www.getmyip.org, but if
this site is down, then giplet will show only the text giplet. With
your last preferences eth1 www.getmyip.org monip.org, if there is no
eth1, then it will probe www.getmyip.org, if from there there is also
neither an ip returned, monip.org is probed.

I can anyway try to ask upstream author about this Bug. On the other
side there was LP#307170. Lyman Li added a timout functionality to
giplet in 0.2.1, but this version didn't reach jaunty, since I
submitted the request for sync from Debian to late LP#354139.

If you have a testing environment, you can try to install the giplet
version in my PPA (the one in Debian sid).

Bests
Salvatore

[Bug 366293] Re: Non-existent i18n files lead to needless server failover

2009-04-25 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Hmm... I don't think this is the same bug. Given the Connection reset
by peer errors in the Debian bug, and the maintainer's trouble in
reproducing it, it looks like more of a network-fault kind of issue.
This bug is getting at a problem with the program's behavior as
intended.

[Bug 346912] Re: Tracker index corruption (was Tracker does not stop indexing)

2009-04-25 Thread joehill
I upgraded to Jaunty (final) and after a couple hours began seeing
persistent dialogs saying There was an error while performing indexing:
Index corrupted. (Same as many other reporters. No such problem on the
fresh install on my desktop.)

I tried killing tracker, removing ~/.cache/tracker, and logging out and
in. Tracker indexed all day yesterday without any of these dialogs
(although my system was extremely slow) but this morning after
suspending and resuming the problem came back.

I have a very long ~/.local/share/tracker/tracker-indexer.log that
repeats [timestamp]: Tracker-Warning **: Could not store word 'audibl':
with fatal error around 78,000 times and adds about 1,000 of the same
message per second.

(I haven't tried deleting ~/.local/share/tracker/data as well--I'd try
again but I'm not sure I can afford to have my system crawl to a halt
for another day.)

[Bug 363467] Re: Kubuntu Live cd doesn't start xorg

2009-04-25 Thread kirys
Hi, sorry for the late answer but I was outside home this week and my laptop
does not have an integrated cd drive.
I've just checked the new stable kubuntu live cd and the problem worsened, in
the RC the cd didn't start x automatically but ended into terminal, but using
startx from the command line x started, while in the stable version startx just
bring up a black screen.
I'll attach the required files in this and next reply.
There was no xorg.conf into the livecd (kubuntu amd64).
Thank You
K.

[Bug 268434] Re: Screen Resolution is not being restored after relogin

2009-04-25 Thread Tathosh
I did not change xorg.conf. I just followed these steps:

1. run nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate to find out real refresh rate. It says 60.
2. go to System setting - Display and change refresh rate. Click Apply.
3. run nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate. I says 75. So refresh rate is changed.
4. reboot the computer
5. after reboot run nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate. It says 60. So refresh rate
is not remembered.
6. again go to System setting - Display. When clicking on Display icon, the
monitor will blink. Don't change anything there.
7. again run nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate. It say 75.
8. reboot the computer and run nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate. It says 60.

Enclosed you will find my xorg.conf. I have not manually edited this
file.

Re: [Bug 334944] Re: Xorg crash in miValidateTree()

2009-04-25 Thread Christian van den Bosch
Hi Bryce,

I'm mailing you directly to reduce noise on launchpad - apologies if
this is inappropriate.

Apologies for misfiling, but as I did write two weeks ago (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/334944/comments/7
) I was unsure whether this was a related bug or not, and sought
guidance as to where to file it. Please don't accuse me of sabotage.

Given that there is so little consistency between the backtraces I
posted, the last half dozen of which were all triggered the same way, it
smells of some asynchronous behavour. Should I file multiple separate
bugs? One bug? Some of my backtraces reference other mi* functions, some
don't.

Thank you for your assistance on this.

Kind regards,

Christian van den Bosch

Bryce Harrington wrote:
Christian and Tobias, neither of you have the same backtrace as Pete, as
neither of your crashes reference miValidateTree at all, so I'm unsure
why you're posting to pete's bug? If you're just trying to shanghai his
bug, don't do that, we're just going to focus on his backtrace bug, so
if you want your issues investigated you're going to have to file them
 as separate bug reports.

[Bug 366565] [NEW] Regression 9.04: 3g modem problems

2009-04-25 Thread Peter.Kostin
Public bug reported:

in Ubuntu 8.10 my 3g modem (Nokia N82) was working correctly, but after
update to 9.10 NM connects, but no pages can be open. Though smartphone
shows that connection is on. And yes I can use internet (Opera mini) in
Nokia without problems, that`s mean that errors are in Ubuntu.

The same problem -

[Bug 346912] Re: Tracker index corruption (was Tracker does not stop indexing)

2009-04-25 Thread Matthäus Brandl
I had the same problem on both of my systems, I upgraded both from Intrepid to
Jaunty Final.
The solution:
- remove the contents of ~/.cache/tracker and of ~./.local/share/tracker/data
- tracker-processes -r
- restart trackerd (in a shell with -v 2 to check)
- let the system index over night
seems to have worked for me, indexing stopped and the last tracker-indexer.log
shows a different error several hours ago...

2009-04-25 Thread Peter Eijlander
Hi Przemysław,

Learning still... I am cuurently downloading it. However not everyone has
the ability to boot the PC from a DVD. Therefore, in order to demonstrate
I need a CD that simply starts in Dutch but that is what I now have
created with the UCK package.
Thanks for pointing this out to me.

Best regards,

This bug is on Ubuntu 9.04 RC Jaunty Jackalope. Using Synaptic 0.62.5
The problem is that when I boot the CD to install the system everything is

lines of:

(I checked the CD after burning).
After installing and reboot (after Starting up) it gives me the same 10
lines but after that system launches.

[Bug 306049] Re: Network-manager Looks like pppd didn't initialize our dbus module with Huawei E160G (E220) on amd64 Intrepid

2009-04-25 Thread João Neves
My NM now connects. I've noticed the following in /var/log/auth.log:

Apr 25 01:43:41 home dbus-daemon: Rejected send message, 1 matched
rules; type=method_call, sender=:1.42 (uid=1000 pid=6083
comm=/usr/lib/indicator-applet/indicator-applet --oaf-a)
interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties member=Get error
name=(unset) requested_reply=0 destination=:1.56 (uid=0 pid=8443
comm=/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dispatcher.action ))

My feeling is that some kind of resolution is failing with dbus, so I
changed all deny to allow in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-dispatcher.conf to
check if that changed and now I can connect.

Anyone knows how the service to name resolution works in dbus so I can
correctly correct my system?
