[Bug 330460] Re: [G45/GM965] [UXA] xorg shows black image with jpg in firefox (UXA bug)

2009-05-03 Thread Martin Olsson
When I surf around on reddit.com and digg.com I find images all the time
that cannot be viewed using Firefox running on intel+UXA. Just as a FYI,
here is two more JPGs that cause dmesg errors and fail to be displayed
properly. Final bugfix needs to be able to render all of the JPGs
correctly.

[Bug 248372] Re: Nautilus crash makes desktop icons and right-click vanish until restart

2009-05-03 Thread Tallyho
this happens to me to. How to cause the crash

I open the /home/ folder with nautilus
then I do a quick right click and left click - that gets me into my users home
folder
when the mouse then is moved, nautilus crashes and respawns

Strange.

[Bug 371311] [NEW] Ibex to Jaunty causes random instability

2009-05-03 Thread /\\/_\\/\\/
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to 9.04 from 8.10 my system experiences strange errors
(that I would love to help you guys get to the bottom of, I'm stumped):

1. Failed to boot: stopped at checking battery state (yet it's a desktop) and
began reading off PHY Transmission Errors from the wireless card - these
errors show up by the hundreds in the logs when I am able to boot successfully.
2. Occasionally fails to get into X: the login screen flashes then the screen
goes black and keyboard becomes unresponsive
3. Every 5-20 minutes locks up once logged in: the GUI stops updating save the
mouse and the keyboard becomes unresponsive, only a hard resent gets it out of
this and nothing about it seems to show up in the logs afterwards, I've been
trying to recreate the conditions that cause this but it seems to be anything
I do after 5 minutes.

Ran Memtest, fsck, the dpkg fix and apt-get install -f without any
errors and can boot to the other OS on the hard drive (XP) and have no
issues whatsoever - so I'm pretty certain isn't the hardware. This is my
first time attempting to debug something where I have absolutely no idea
what the issue is so any help would be appreciated.

[Bug 359392] Re: [i965] X freezes starting on April 3rd

2009-05-03 Thread Oded Arbel
It sounds like this problem:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=487494 which is about the X
server leaking memory, which causes swap thrashing which causes the
kernel to spend a lot of time in IO-wait until the system becomes
non-responsive. I haven't seen this with Ubuntu, but Jaunty uses the
same version of X server and about the same version of the Intel drivers
so its possible its the same problem.

Regardless, this is not relevant to this ticket.

On Sun, 2009-05-03 at 15:11 +, Valentin Neacsu wrote:
I am having an issue with Jaunty on i915. Using Metacity, the CPU gets
slowly but surely eaten up with no obvious process eating up the CPU
cycles. top shows no process taking more than 5-10% CPU time, while
the System Monitor panel applet shows the CPU at 100% usage, with
IOWait eating up most of it. When this happens I gradually lose
control of the system, where sometimes I can reboot it, while other
times it just freezes trying to do it. Most programs stop responding
when this happens. Switching to text mode doesn't help as bash can't get
enough CPU time to initialize. I can reboot with the Magic SysRq key. I
can trigger this easily while on battery, usually within 5-10 minutes of
normal usage (browsing, reading PDFs etc).

My question is if this bug is related to the above described symptoms,
or is it a completely different bug that's affecting me?

 Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software
package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this
the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Thanks!

[Bug 365968] Re: touchpad randomly failing

2009-05-03 Thread seph
I have a dell latitude d600, and see something very similar.

On Intrepid, when under moderate load, occasionally the mouse would get
wonky. I could move it, but it didn't really notice the click event, and
it wouldn't change window focus. I could fix this by rapidly clicking a
bunch.

Now that I've upgraded to Jaunty, my experience is markedly worse. Twice
now, in 2 days my machine has just started ignoring left click events.
The cursor moves, right click works, but left click does not. This was
not tied to excess load. Plugging in an external USB mouse does not
change this at all.

I have the same messages in my logs.

The best suggestion I found on the internet was to add
psmouse.proto=imps to the kernel boot, from http://www.debian-
administration.org/articles/376 But that's from 3 years ago. I haven't
yet tried it.

keep in mind that the wubi installer on my ubuntu 8.10 disk does NOT do
this. The wubi installer on my 8.04 disk does NOT either. Only the wubi
installer on my ubuntu 9.04 disk does this.

wubi 9.04 has been changed in some way. and it is only this initial part
because once past this problem, the wubi installer works fine.

i do not know what logs i should post.

[Bug 345721] Re: Sony Vaio VGN-AR730 does not suspend anymore

2009-05-03 Thread Guilherme Buonfiglio de Castro Monteiro
At least in my computer this not happens anymore. I've accidentally closed
the lid and to my surprise suspended worked perfectly. I've did it several
times since yesterday to make sure it's consistent and it is working perfectly.
I don't know what fixed it but it is certainly one of the jaunty updates since
it's release.
I think this can be closed now! :)

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

At first the card would connect yet frequently disconnect requiring a NM
restart (I initially figured it was just the singular router) but as
well it happens on my router now. This is a important bug even if its
for a couple of people, its really restrictive in Jaunty. :)

[Bug 371183] Re: xubuntu does not mount fixed media

2009-05-03 Thread Charlie Kravetz
I have both an installed, customized version of Jaunty 9.04 on a 64-bit
system, and on a 32-bit system. Both systems, when I plug in a USB drive
that is not in fstab, the drive mounts automatically and displays on the
desktop. I also have a second hard disk in each system that mounts using
the mount command and displays in the directory I use to mount it.

Checking man thunar-volman, I read this:
thunar-volman - controls configuration of thunar’s removable media
Also, this note is the second item I read:
NOTE
Note that usually this command is invoked by thunar itself and you
should only use this if you are having problems adding the device as
per the documentation cited at the end of this manpage.

By this, I would not expect thunar-volman to mount fixed media. It is
only intended to display your removable drives.

If this is a removable drive you are attempting to mount, please give
the steps to reproduce this bug in detail.

Thanks for trying to help improve Xubuntu and please continue to file
bugs you find.

[Bug 369631] Re: No Sound on Fresh Intall of Ubuntu 8.10 drivers are loaded

2009-05-03 Thread Scott Howard
Hi, thanks for your report and for helping make Ubuntu better! I'm
assigning this to the ubuntu-audio team and associating with linux.

Here are some other resources to help us:

Automatic Sound Information Collection

This is the preferred method for gathering the appropriate sound
information from your system. It's helps ensure that you gather the
sound information correctly and completely. The following script gathers
all required information in one go http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh
. By default, the script uploads the information to alsa-project.org .
This information can be used by ALSA developers to improve current
support for some cards. If you do not wish your information to be
uploaded, please use the --no-upload argument when running the script.
The script was written to aid the alsa developers, and also to help the
people in #alsa to sort out sound issues. Please download and run the
script as follows:

   1. run the command: bash alsa-info.sh
   2. The script will generate a URL. Please add this URL to your bug report.
   3. If for some reason the script does not generate a URL, please use the
--pastebin option (our original upload method)
   4. The alsa-info.sh script can either be run as 'bash alsa-info.sh' _or_
made executable and run as './alsa-info.sh'.

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 160413] Re: Wake on LAN (WOL) not working with r8169 driver on Gutsy

2009-05-03 Thread Geoff
Just upgraded from Hardy to Jaunty and my wake on lan stopped working.
I'm using a realtek 8168 on board NIC, although I notice the driver is
8169. Have tried editing halt script, using ethtool and disabling
ifdown commands in /etc/init.d/networking all to no avail.

Does anyone have a fix? Should I try replacing the driver with the 8168
from realteks website? I downloaded it but couldn't figure out how to
make it compile.

Thanks...
Geoff

[Bug 371327] [NEW] 1.60b1 crashes after closing properties window

2009-05-03 Thread k.milonas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

Hello everybody,

First bug report so, please be kind if im not excact enough or bug is
known ;-)

Tested only on my installation. :-|

The following happens in my Ubuntu 8.04.2 installation using the following
transmission package:
1.60-0ubuntu0~hardy0~beta1
About shows 1.60b1 (8303).

Transmission crashes and close after the following actions:
1. Right click to a torrent in the list (downloading or not)
2. Properties
3. Close window of torrent's properties from X button (right top on the window
:-P) and not using Close button.
4. Left or right clicking on any torrent in the list.

I run transmission from the terminal to see the output while crashing
and got the following:

(transmission:17797): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid uninstantiatable type
`invalid' in cast to `GObject'
(transmission:17797): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_get_data: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

Running with sudo brings the same error.
If i close the properties window using the Close button crash doesn't happen.

Please, tell me if you need any further information.

Thanks,
Kostas

[Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel

I can confirm: installing both 2.7.99 intel driver from xorg-edgers AND

compiz) and image corruptions with opengl. Now I'm checking for UXA

[Bug 371329] [NEW] network applet put statistics lower when mouse cursor focus on it

2009-05-03 Thread Alexandre Racine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

See the picture.

When putting the focus of the mouse cursor on the network part of the
applet, the network graph lower or zeros the network activity bars.

On the picture attached, the yellow lower bars are when I simply focus,
unfocus, focus, unfocus.

This has been like that since I used Ubuntu, so that would be... 7.04 I
think.

I followed exactely the procedure to do, but the TERMINAL told to me that it

For to be sure about the exact download location, I download the Realplayer
file into; PERSONAL file, Desktop location, and into My Documents, and with
these 3 locations, sudo said; unable to execute ./RealPlayer11Gold.bin: No such
file or directory.
I'm able to deal easyly with Windows XP, Vista, Mac OS X, but the installation'
procedure about RealPlayer does't work well with UBUNTU.
It must be most clear and must be more assisted by the OS.
In meantime, how can I installed RealPlayer. I don,t understand this time what
failed. I SUCCEEDED VERY WELL WITH THE FORMER VERSION OF UBUNTU 8.10 INTREPID

If anyone wants more info let me know as well.

[Bug 371337] [NEW] Seti application expieriences SSE3 emulation crashes on Jaunty Jackalope 9.04

2009-05-03 Thread michael37
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: boinc-app-seti

I am reporting a regression in 64-bit Optimized s...@home applications
in Jaunty. It appears that the problem affects Core 2 Duo 'Merom'
laptops using SSE2-SSE3 emulation. The problem did not appear in
Intrepid. Other similar OS'es, such as Sidux, sharing the same kernel,
do not exhibit the problem.

Current workaround is (source:
http://lunatics.kwsn.net/linux/64-bit-sse2-app.15.html)
So, if you want to use the optimized application version astropulse 5.03 x64
sse3 with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu 9.04 and kernel 2.6.28-11-generic on a core 2
mobile with Merom core, please use astropulse 5.03 x64 sse2 optimized
application version instead.
More testing has to be done to find a better solution for this problem.

Here are several stack traces (source: http://lunatics.kwsn.net/linux
/more-trouble-with-x-k-ubuntu-9-04-64bit.0.html). It looks like the
cause of the problem may be somewhere in libpthreads.

[Bug 371330] Re: Installing Real player failed

2009-05-03 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

[Bug 371335] [NEW] adacity : no micro working for record

2009-05-03 Thread dmoyne
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacity

the micro does not work with audacity since I have reinstalled jaunty
before I experienced no problem ; the cause is probably a last update in
some modules ; befopre reinstalling pulse peripheral worked fine with
micro recording.

Something also not normal Kde settings does not propose pulse peripheral
as a possible choice in capture whereas Skype does !

I have another 64 bits machine also set with the latest jaunty and I
have no problem there with the micro with pulse selected in audacity ;
all this in inconstitent.

I have the same problem with Skype but I will file a separate bug report.
Regards.

[Bug 310500] Re: Default page size for printing is letter - Printigsettings wont change letter to a4

It looks like /etc/papersize overrides the printer-specific Media Size
set in Printer Options. I think that is very wrong. I removed my
/etc/papersize and now the test page is printed with my chosen Media
Size.

[Bug 371338] [NEW] cannot stop RAID1

2009-05-03 Thread psl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mdadm

Cannot stop RAID1 device. I do a disk cleanup and I want to replace
RAID1 device with RAID10 device. I cannot stop RAID1 device. /dev/md1

My observation is that most documentation focus on creation of new RAID
devices but there is only little information about destruction of RAID
devices (that is needed sometimes...). I want to delete /dev/md1 and
create new /dev/md1 that will be RAID10 type. Should be an easy task but
I met an issue I cannot overcome...
