[Bug 374589] Re: samba server fails to start on boot time when laptop is not connected to any network.

2009-05-17 Thread David Harel
I reverted the solution so you could see for yourself how to reproduce the
problem.
1st, the current state:
$ find /etc -lname '*samba*'
/etc/rc4.d/S20samba
/etc/rc1.d/K20samba
/etc/rc3.d/S20samba
/etc/rc0.d/K20samba
/etc/rc6.d/K20samba
/etc/rc2.d/S20samba
/etc/rc5.d/S20samba
ha...@harel-laptop 2009-03-06 $ /etc/init.d/samba status
 * nmbd is running
 * smbd is not running
2nd, attached my /etc/samba/smb.conf.
3rd, I typically do not configure samba to listen to *.* (too afraid of misuse)
so I typically limit samba on specific network. This can be viewd in the
smb.conf file.

[Bug 283811] Re: cups says can't promp for authorization when printing to my samba printer

2009-05-17 Thread Simön
Ok, I copied my 'GDI-Printer' and called it 'lp'. Then I deleted the old one
and set 'lp' to default.
After printing two single pages from firefox I thought it worked, but the third
page from a pdf-file failed with 'Too many failed attempts.'

So: The Do not know why it works-copy-workaround is not solving the
problem! (for me)

dpkg - warning: while removing munin-node, directory `/var/lib/munin' not empty

Haven't been able to install and remove/purge munin-node in a way to
reproduce that situation. Can you try and first make sure all munin
packages are properly purge, and then manually remove /var/lib/munin?
One way to make sure there are no trace of munin packages left is the

@Daniel: I get the same results as you ( 0.1 ) on Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04
amd64. I also tested morodoch's PHP example code, and it works fine
here also:

$ php -r echo PHP_VERSION; echo PHP_EOL; echo 0.6/6; echo PHP_EOL;
5.2.6-3ubuntu4.1
0.1
$ echo -e
?php\nbcscale(10);\nerror_log(0.5/5);\nerror_log(0.6/6);\nerror_log(bcdiv(0.6,
 6));\n? |php
0.1

So if this is reproducible, maybe it is only reproducible under Ubuntu

   +if [ -z $sig -o $sig = 15 -o $sig = TERM ]; then

I'm encountering this bug when /etc/init.d/freeradius reload ends up
sending SIGTERM rather than SIGHUP.

I can see that it is marked as WONTFIX for hardy. I suppose it is not a
severe bug, but it is confusing when first encountered and annoying
thereafter.

[Bug 377498] [NEW] Remove gtkpod-aac from karmic

2009-05-17 Thread Maia Kozheva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtkpod-aac

Since gtkpod has been patched to dynamically detect and load libmp4v2, a
separate gtkpod-aac source package duplicating the code is no longer
necessary.

gtkpod-aac is now a transitional package building from the gtkpod source
package, so this one is now useless.

[Bug 333127] Re: Firefox 3.1 and above crash on full screen flash video

2009-05-17 Thread Julián Alarcón
Mmm, so, the problem is always in PC's with nVidia cards (and
proprietary drivers), tested with a computer with a Intel Video Card,
and works fine... So... if the problems is nVidia drivers.. Why this bug
don't appears in Firefox 3.0.x??

I also tested the last Opera 10 alpha (13 May 2009).
Version
10.00 Alpha
Build
4345
Platform
Linux
System
i686, 2.6.28-11-generic
Qt library
4.5.1

And, what do you think?? It works... Also test Epiphany from official
repos, and also works... So.. Where is the problem, in nVidia Drivers
(180.44) or Firefox 3.5???

[Bug 377502] [NEW] Ario uses a small xpm icon in menus

2009-05-17 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ario

Ario uses a small xpm icon in menus even though there is a much larger
and clearer logo.png file that can be used as a menu/desktop icon.

When using app launchers like Gnome Do that display larger icons by
default, the xpm looks very ugly when scaled. logo.png (included with
the current source) should be used as an icon when packaged.

[Bug 303288] Re: Right mouse button on FF page on Ubuntu does nothing

2009-05-17 Thread Micah Gersten
Many bad Firefox behaviors are in fact caused by one of the many third-party
'themes', 'extensions' and 'plugins'. These will go away with a new profile -
that is, when Firefox is restored to default settings and without any

Could you please try with a new profile and let us know the results?

[Bug 377503] [NEW] ark can't handle encrypted file lists (in password-protected *.rars)

2009-05-17 Thread Martin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdeutils

Ark handles regular password-protected RARs very well. But it turns out
it can't handle RARs that have the file list encrypted, too. I'm talking
about the kind of archive that in file-roller will prompt for the
password right after opening the file (before the list of contained
files shows up), not just upon extracting as is the regular case. If ark
encounters such an archive, it just stalls saying loading archive...

I created an archive of that sort (with file-roller, with the option
Encrypt file list, too checked in the password dialogue), it's
attached to the bug report.

[Bug 273558] Re: /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid

2009-05-17 Thread Draeath
I think it's important to note however, that this is NOT an Ubuntu-
specific issue. Other distros are making the same migration (and are
doing it the same sudden-transition way).

While I think that the only reasons to REPLACE one library with the
other is few shared files in /etc, I think there is no reason why the
old code cannot be patched to look at a different file(s).

There's two different ways this can be fixed:

1. Fix it on the distro/packaging side
2. Fix it on the application side

I vote that #1 is the proper solution. If libqt was dropped when libqt4
was added, I think there would be a lot more noise... but it's nearly
the same problem. We need a graceful transition, not an all-or-nothing
approach as is being implemented now.

That said, Pre 1.1 openal development has ceased. Applications still
being worked on (like x-plane) should notice this and do what they need
to do to keep current.

I'm not saying anyone is doing this, but lets try to avoid stonewalling.
Being inflexible doesn't help anyone. If I could code worth anything, I
would have a go at fixing the issue myself. I hope there is someone out
there with the skills and motivation.

And, taking a probably naive view, I don't see how this is an issue on
the application side itself. Unless there are dirty kludges involved, it
shouldn't be very hard to find and adjust any calls to a given set of
functions. Why is there such resistance to 'porting' the code to the new
version? If it really is that hard, then I would say someone is doing
something wrong. Take that with some salt, since I likely don't know
what I'm talking about.

Now... bickering aside. Why is it specifically that the old library
cannot be provided side-by-side? It makes no sense to me. Is it the
config file conflict in /etc? As mentioned earlier, this (probably)
should be something even I can fix. The specification to use that file
is stored somewhere. Even MS 'notepad' can do a find/replace. I
sincerely hope there's more to this than laziness or stubbornness.

[Bug 377504] [NEW] file-roller password-protecting UI confusing

2009-05-17 Thread Martin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

When you create a password-protected archive in file-roller, only those
files that were added AFTER entering the password will actually be
encrypted. If you add all the files first, then enter the password,
nothing at all will be encrypted.

I can see why it would be like that from a programming POV, but from the
user POV that behavior is unexpected and likely to cause confusion.

When setting a password, by default all files added to the archive up to
that point should be encrypted using that password.

[Bug 353709] Re: Anjuta doesn't save active plugins/layout

2009-05-17 Thread Robert Ancell
Hi Andy,

Thanks for the feedback. A long term support release will only contain
security fixes during it's support cycle. For non-security fixes a backport is
required:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports

Anjuta has not been backported in Hardy
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-backports/) so you may want to consider
applying the fix yourself and building a new package. The personal package
archive service may be of use in this:

[Bug 331589] Re: Extremely loud and intrusive system beep with (some?) HD Audio devices

2009-05-17 Thread irrdev
I just did fresh installs of both Ubuntu and Kubuntu 9.04 on the same
computer. Only Ubuntu plays the terrible system beep using my Intel
sound card at shutdown. I have to admit that this is the most annoying
*buntu bug that I have ever encountered, as I appreciate using the
system beep in the terminal, but NOT whenever I shut down my system.
Since only my Ubuntu installation seems to be affected, I wonder if this
is a more Gnome-related issue rather than a linux kernal issue. BTW, I
noticed that my Jaunty installation no longer has the System Beep tab
like Intrepid did. I had to manually edit my configuration file to get a
visual beep in some cases, although this hasn't disabled the system
beep at shutdown, and as already mentioned above, I don't wish to
blacklist pcspkr. This is an absolutely terrible bug which needs to be
fixed by Cananical ASAP.

[Bug 334499] Re: Firefox EXTREMELY slow with many (more than three) tabs open

2009-05-17 Thread Micah Gersten
Many bad Firefox behaviors are in fact caused by one of the many third-party
'themes', 'extensions' and 'plugins'. These will go away with a new profile -
that is, when Firefox is restored to default settings and without any
extensions and themes. You do not need to delete your old profile to test.
Could you please try with a new profile and let us know the results?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs?action=showredirect=DebuggingFirefox#Try%20with%20a%20new%20profile

If a new profile helps, maybe you can help us determine what is slowing
down Firefox.

H... Windows XP is OK with one connection and USB 1.1 with kernel
2.6.24 works fine with one connection. The same drive mounts fine with
one connection and kernel 2.6.27 on a Toshiba Satellite A215 but not
with the same kernel on my HP L2000.

so it's not the issue I was mentioning (I was too lazy to check the full
thread, sorry), but it seem still related to bus powering and how the driver
handles this...

[Bug 361843] Re: Kile 2.1 LaTeX editor is extremely slow

2009-05-17 Thread Wouter Charle
I noticed that the speed of Kile is influenced by the size of the
editing window. If I edit in full screen, editing text is very slow.
Resizing the window to 1/4 the size of my screen remarkably speeds up
editing. Further I did not change any settings from the standard
configuration. Using the --graphicssystem raster command also speeds up
the editor.

as you have the appropriate dongle I think it would be useful to contact
upstream developpers on the bluez stack mailing-list and explaining your

possibly have the fix backported.

[Bug 356381] Re: Kernel High Memory Support 64GB incompatible with intel video UXA

2009-05-17 Thread VladNistor
I am now testing Karmic Alpha 1 and the problem is still here.

UXA works on kernel 2.6.30-5-generic but not 2.6.30-5-server which are
available on Karmic.

This bug is important because as support for EXA will be dropped we will
all be using UXA which means everyone who uses -server kernels or has
64GB mem option selected will be unable to do so.

[Bug 377507] [NEW] internal mic not working (fs amilo pi 1556)

2009-05-17 Thread pruefsum
Public bug reported:

I followed several instructions [1, 2] to get the internal microphone
working and I searched through the forums and the wiki. In the German
Ubuntu wiki the FS Amilo Pi 1556 is listed with the annotation Mikrofon
funktioniert nicht (= mic doesn't work) [3]. Things I have tried to
get the microphone working:

1.) /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
I added the line: options snd-hda-intel model=fujitsu

2.) Updated to alsa 1.0.20

3.) In alsamixer, I tried all combinations you can think of while
watching the PulseAudio Volume Meter (pavumeter --record)

I'm using Ubuntu 9.0.4 but the mic didn't work on 8.04 or 8.10 neither.

Output of: cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
Codec: Motorola Si3054

[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB disk are very slow

2009-05-17 Thread psypher
I wil have to disagree with about ram. busy trying to clone my root
partition with dd to a usb hard drive. booted with jaunty 32bit live cd
and started the process with dd if=/dev/sda3 of=/media/disk/image.img
conv=sync,noerror bs=64K. 1st 10GB flew by at 25-30MB/s then started
slowing down to 10MB/s till about 25GB and then crawls at 3MB/s. stopped
it around 53GB after about 5 hours and tried turning off USB legacy
emulation in the BIOS as suggested by some other posts. started the
process again and the EXACT same thing happened. ram usage is not a
factor at all:

  total used free sharedbuffers
cached
Mem: 309564812434521852196 0 763720 264116
-/+ buffers/cache: 2156162880032
Swap: 1638588 01638588

rebooted to switch the sata hard drive to ahci. could not boot ubuntu at
all so thats not a workaround. had the same issue on my desktop. not
sure how you are supposed to get any ubuntu booted in ahci mode.

also tried manually mounting the usb drive and also made no difference.
in fact i have tried this when i was still running hardy and it made no
difference then. so as far as I am concerned there is no workaround for
this problem at all. started the clone last night at 11:30 and is still
running now at 9:30 and is only on 63GB. shocking.

This issue has been plaguing us since hardy and is frankly embarrassing for OSS
and Ubuntu.
This is not a medium bug IMO but should be marked as CRITICAL. Need to do
emergency clone of a hard drive you cannot expect someone to wait 12 hours for
something that should take 1 or 2 This bug was logged a year ago. what can be
done to fix it finally???

I know you are. But CodeLite uses WX for its GUI, and WX internally uses

3rd, I typically do not configure samba to listen to *.* (too afraid of misuse)
so I typically limit samba on specific network. This can be viewd in the
smb.conf file.

[Bug 352051] Re: bluetooth-properties - Dell Bluetooth Switch has no effect

2009-05-17 Thread Baptiste Mille-Mathias
Could you provide the daemon log only with the bluetoothd part when you try to
disable your bluetooth adapter?
I almost sure the killwitch was poorly working and it is not really intended to
work :/

[Bug 301886] Re: Web page not rendered correctly www.live.twit.tv and con not use or enter chatroom either

2009-05-17 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest versions of Firefox 3.0 and Flash?
Thanks in advance.
