[Bug 374589] Re: samba server fails to start on boot time when laptop is not connected to any network.
I reverted the solution so you could see for yourself how to reproduce the problem. 1st, the current state: $ find /etc -lname '*samba*' /etc/rc4.d/S20samba /etc/rc1.d/K20samba /etc/rc3.d/S20samba /etc/rc0.d/K20samba /etc/rc6.d/K20samba /etc/rc2.d/S20samba /etc/rc5.d/S20samba ha...@harel-laptop 2009-03-06 $ /etc/init.d/samba status * nmbd is running * smbd is not running 2nd, attached my /etc/samba/smb.conf. 3rd, I typically do not configure samba to listen to *.* (too afraid of misuse) so I typically limit samba on specific network. This can be viewd in the smb.conf file. ** Attachment added: smb.conf http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26848063/smb.conf -- samba server fails to start on boot time when laptop is not connected to any network. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 273558] Re: /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid
I think it's important to note however, that this is NOT an Ubuntu- specific issue. Other distros are making the same migration (and are doing it the same sudden-transition way). While I think that the only reasons to REPLACE one library with the other is few shared files in /etc, I think there is no reason why the old code cannot be patched to look at a different file(s). There's two different ways this can be fixed: 1. Fix it on the distro/packaging side 2. Fix it on the application side I vote that #1 is the proper solution. If libqt was dropped when libqt4 was added, I think there would be a lot more noise... but it's nearly the same problem. We need a graceful transition, not an all-or-nothing approach as is being implemented now. That said, Pre 1.1 openal development has ceased. Applications still being worked on (like x-plane) should notice this and do what they need to do to keep current. I'm not saying anyone is doing this, but lets try to avoid stonewalling. Being inflexible doesn't help anyone. If I could code worth anything, I would have a go at fixing the issue myself. I hope there is someone out there with the skills and motivation. And, taking a probably naive view, I don't see how this is an issue on the application side itself. Unless there are dirty kludges involved, it shouldn't be very hard to find and adjust any calls to a given set of functions. Why is there such resistance to 'porting' the code to the new version? If it really is that hard, then I would say someone is doing something wrong. Take that with some salt, since I likely don't know what I'm talking about. Now... bickering aside. Why is it specifically that the old library cannot be provided side-by-side? It makes no sense to me. Is it the config file conflict in /etc? As mentioned earlier, this (probably) should be something even I can fix. The specification to use that file is stored somewhere. Even MS 'notepad' can do a find/replace. I sincerely hope there's more to this than laziness or stubbornness. -- /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273558 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 377504] [NEW] file-roller password-protecting UI confusing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller When you create a password-protected archive in file-roller, only those files that were added AFTER entering the password will actually be encrypted. If you add all the files first, then enter the password, nothing at all will be encrypted. I can see why it would be like that from a programming POV, but from the user POV that behavior is unexpected and likely to cause confusion. [Bug 331589] Re: Extremely loud and intrusive system beep with (some?) HD Audio devices
I just did fresh installs of both Ubuntu and Kubuntu 9.04 on the same computer. Only Ubuntu plays the terrible system beep using my Intel sound card at shutdown. I have to admit that this is the most annoying *buntu bug that I have ever encountered, as I appreciate using the system beep in the terminal, but NOT whenever I shut down my system. Since only my Ubuntu installation seems to be affected, I wonder if this is a more Gnome-related issue rather than a linux kernal issue. BTW, I noticed that my Jaunty installation no longer has the System Beep tab like Intrepid did. I had to manually edit my configuration file to get a visual beep in some cases, although this hasn't disabled the system beep at shutdown, and as already mentioned above, I don't wish to blacklist pcspkr. This is an absolutely terrible bug which needs to be fixed by Cananical ASAP. -- Extremely loud and intrusive system beep with (some?) [Bug 367756] Re: close button for applet preferences dialog does not trigger the window to close
Easy fix. The close button's click is hooked to gtk_widget_destroy directly, which kills the button. Pointing the function to the preferences window works fine. ** Attachment added: window-picker-applet-pref-close-fix.diff http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26847687/window-picker-applet-pref-close-fix.diff -- close button for applet preferences dialog does not trigger the window to close https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 197762] Re: file transfers on USB disk are very slow
I wil have to disagree with about ram. busy trying to clone my root partition with dd to a usb hard drive. booted with jaunty 32bit live cd and started the process with dd if=/dev/sda3 of=/media/disk/image.img conv=sync, noerror bs=64K. 1st 10GB flew by at 25-30MB/s then started slowing down to 10MB/s till about 25GB and then crawls at 3MB/s. stopped it around 53GB after about 5 hours and tried turning off USB legacy emulation in the BIOS as suggested by some other posts. started the process again and the EXACT same thing happened. ram usage is not a factor at all: total used free sharedbuffers cached Mem: 309564812434521852196 0 763720 264116 -/+ buffers/cache: 2156162880032 Swap: 1638588 01638588 rebooted to switch the sata hard drive to ahci. could not boot ubuntu at all so thats not a workaround. had the same issue on my desktop. not sure how you are supposed to get any ubuntu booted in ahci mode. also tried manually mounting the usb drive and also made no difference. in fact i have tried this when i was still running hardy and it made no difference then. so as far as I am concerned there is no workaround for this problem at all. started the clone last night at 11:30 and is still running now at 9:30 and is only on 63GB. shocking. This issue has been plaguing us since hardy and is frankly embarrassing for OSS and Ubuntu. This is not a medium bug IMO but should be marked as CRITICAL. Need to do emergency clone of a hard drive you cannot expect someone to wait 12 hours for something that should take 1 or 2 This bug was logged a year ago. what can be done to fix it finally??? -- file transfers on USB disk are very slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 377231] [NEW] codelite: poor user experience due to windows behavior
I know you are. But CodeLite uses WX for its GUI, and WX internally uses GTK. I think there's a way to change the GTK theme in KDE. Could you try that and see if your problem persists?
