[Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend

2009-05-20 Thread dan_linder
HP needs proof it's a BIOS problem, correct?

If someone can reverse-engineer the F0.9/F0.11 BIOS and compare it to
the F.21 bios (that freak007 mentioned fixing his laptop on 2008-12-02),
then we can possibly work through their team to show how this bug exists
in other models that don't have the F.21 BIOS.

A more direct question might be to ask when the bug-fixes resolved in
the F.21 BIOS will be ported to the HDX18 BIOS (my laptop which is
affected).

Anyone up to that task? Anyone have a friend inside HP that works on
the BIOS that might help us?

Dan

This just happened to a few days ago, when it does my cpu usage goes to 100% or
both core start going nuts at over 50 to 60% of usage.
Doesn't affect memory usage it stays low.
Just did:

sudo evolution --force-shutdown
find ~/.evolution/mail/local -name *ev-summary -exec rm -f {} \;

and seems to be working for now.
I did a complete re-installation of my system because of the cpu usage thing
not realising it was Evil ution. Should have Googled earlier, my bad.

Great new (sort of). I've now installed Karmic and tested WPA-PSK and
I'm now experiencing the same problem as you guys.

Since the same version works for me in Jaunty the problem most be in
combination with a new version of some other component. My guess is
either wpa_supplicant or KWallet manager (since it kept asking me for a
correct wpa key) is to blame, but I'll investigate this further.

[Bug 378793] [NEW] SystemError when looking for some unknown IP addresses

2009-05-20 Thread dialtone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-geoip

When trying to locate any of these (and more) IP addresses:

188.129.154.21
99.56.83.65
24.49.164.246
24.49.162.115
173.45.97.18
99.56.26.183

The library returns this exception:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File tester.py, line 16, in module
locator.record_by_addr('99.56.26.183')
SystemError: error return without exception set

Which is hardly an intended behavior and instead a bug. The problem is
not there with the latest 1.2.4 version of this library (or at least the
current source version not packaged in ubuntu).

Note that the IP addresses are not a problem per-se, it's just the the
library should return None if it can't locate the address instead of
raising that SystemError. If you use a different version of the
GeoIPLite database you probably will have different IP addresses that
raise this problem.

Running this small script recreates the problem for me:

import sys
import GeoIP as geoip

location_file = sys.argv[1]

locator = geoip.open(location_file,
 geoip.GEOIP_MEMORY_CACHE)

ips = ['188.129.154.21',
   '99.56.83.65',
   '24.49.164.246',
   '24.49.162.115',
   '173.45.97.18',
   '99.56.26.183']

for ip in ips:

[Bug 114462] Re: Printing with Print range prints wrong page range

2009-05-20 Thread Bartek
Implementing John's idea appears to be easy on the surface: after all,
evince stores a list connecting document page numbers to physical page
numbers. There's one problem though: in Lienhard's book the first two
pages have no label at all! (title page empty page)

[Bug 378054] Re: Sometimes I can't click, some others can't write

2009-05-20 Thread Emanuele Bellini
Other details: I can't do Alt+Tab, if I press Alt+F2 sometimes isn't possible
to type anything inside the field to run other programs.
Moreover, other times I'm writing with the keyboard and it seems like a button
is pressed, in fact when I was typing these comments I had a window getting
opened (the one of the Downthemall plugin for Firefox).
I haven't explained well about the Awn malfunctioning: sometimes I have that if
I click in anywhere the active window get minimized, when I click again it gets
maximized. Before it happened with Gedit but I achieved to open the Run...
window with Alt+F2 so it was the active window. But the problem wasn't solved,
in fact I had Gedit still minimizing and maximizing.
I don't know if it's normal but I can't restart Gnome with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.

[Bug 355155] Re: Computer hard locks randomly with ubuntu jaunty

2009-05-20 Thread Jamie
Unfortunately for me, this problem didn't start until just after
converting my Ext3 partitions to Ext4, so not only do I get random
freezes but actual data loss. Lost 180 MB one time (before backup) and
the last one just destroyed my Firefox profile. So instead of working
today, I get to rebuild lost data.

Does anyone know if this is affecting other distros? I've been plagued
by this problem for weeks and I've just about had my fill of losing
data. If this is an Ubuntu/Kubuntu-specific problem, it may be reason
enough for me to drop it and move to another distro.

[Bug 278965] Re: mail-notification unable to contact evolution

2009-05-20 Thread IanW
If your mail-notification applet cannot communicate with evolution in
Jaunty, please try the workaround in bug 355209 .

If the workaround succeeds, then you have bug 355209. We can merge the
bugs and further discussion on it should be in that bug report.

If the workaround fails, please let us know if further information for
triaging this bug will be available. If no further information will be
available, we will eventually close this bug report due to lack of
information to locate the bug.

[Bug 378765] [NEW] Merge konversation 1.2~alpha1-1 from debian unstable

2009-05-20 Thread Alessandro Ghersi
Public bug reported:

Changes in debian:

 konversation (1.2~alpha1-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream development release (1.2 Alpha 1).
   * Update konversation.install: add documentation.
   * Disable debian/aboutdata_add_debian_version patch.
   * Use another way to install README.scripts, previous one didn't work as
 expected.

changelog in ubuntu:

konversation (1.1.75+svn965785-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian Experimental, Closes LP: #373947, remaining changes:
- Bump svn snapshot version
- Use include debian-qt-kde.mk rather than built-in debhelper
- Add kubuntu/default_channels.diff, disable debian/default_channel.diff
- Disable debian/dbug_autoreplace.diff, doesn't apply for now (plus it's
not that terribly useful for Kubuntu users) we can pick this up later
  once Debian fixes it
- Change xpm/README.scripts path slightly to accomidate our differing
  build systems
- Use the Kubuntu docpath (/usr/share/doc/kde)
- Build-depend on cdbs

Re: [Bug 345627] Re: Crackling / scratching noise using Pulseaudio

While I don't dispute your observation that a hardware component is
involved with the distorted audio, I think that we can all agree that
src-linear is the lowest-common denominator in terms of audio quality,

See bug 376374 and my associated change in bzr.

You say that some users don't notice src-linear resampler artifacts on
certain hardware - I would counter that these users may not have testing
with their PCM volume set above ~75% (IIRC, the PCM slider is set to
around 75% in a stock install of Ubuntu), as the distortion won't kick
 in below this threshold.

I have access to three different HDA controller/codec combinations
(Nvidia/Conexant, Intel/IDT, and the last escapes me atm) where
setting both PCM and Master to 100% does not reveal artifacts. PA also
is not configured to do absurd attenuation.

Also, some reporters may be confusing distortion (in terms of
resampler artifacts) with stuttering (buffering problems, etc.).

Yes, this bug report has become severely polluted.

particularly difficult to support, as configurations where the user has

can become overly complex.

Ok, this will be somewhat interesting.
Turns out that Alessandro and I were both working on this at the same time. (I

[Bug 378780] [NEW] Panel Launchers Retain Focus

2009-05-20 Thread Matt Gagne
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I tried reopening bug #18361 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-panel/+bug/18361), but was told to instead open a new bug. So I
have done so:

I seem to have a regression of bug 18361. Instead of dotted lines, I get
the Gnome 'icon selected' orange highlight/box around my launchers.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Click on any panel launcher,

Result: Launcher, erm, launches, and an orange 'highlight' box placed on top of
launcher icon indicating its selection.
Expected Result: Launcher launches and *without* leaving launcher highlighted!

ALTERNATE (more consistent) reproduction method:
1) Click and hold down button on panel launcher.
2) Move mouse off of launcher to blank panel space (i.e. grey space.)
3) Release mouse button.

Result: Orange 'highlight' box placed on top of launcher icon indicating
its selection.

I can get rid of the box by clicking on any other panel item (including
Applications/Places/System.) Please note that this occurs using *both*
Compiz and Metacity.

Specifications:
HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop
Gnome Version: 2.26.1
Linux Kernel: 2.6.28-11-generic
gnome-panel 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7 (jaunty)

[Bug 355155] Re: Computer hard locks randomly with ubuntu jaunty

2009-05-20 Thread Luis
I have this problem too and it is sad because this is the first distro
that everything works out of the box in my notebook. I'm using the
amd-64 version and it is an intel dual core with nvidia 9600 GT.

I saw here that some people tried to use a different kernel version, but
the problem is still there. Disabling ACPI is not helping too. I have a
Nvidia card, but some people are facing the same problem with ATI and
Intel cards. The network interface was already tested and the problem
remains.

Does anybody has more ideas?

I can't remember the last time I had a problem like this in Linux. It
was a long long time ago.

Can anyone confirm that translation?

[Bug 71045] Re: pymol can not find the BLOSUM62 matrix; wrong path

2009-05-20 Thread Kayvee
I am using Pymol on Jaunty and came across a similar bug.
The error I see is this:
Match-Error: unable to open matrix file
'/usr/share/pymol/pymol/matrices/BLOSUM62'.

When I checked, I noticed that /usr/share/pymol directory does not have another
'pymol' directory. However, /usr/share/pymol has a 'matrices' directory in
which BLOSUM62 is present. So, I created a 'pymol' directory in
/usr/share/pymol and made a symlink to matrices folder there.
That fixed it! But this is something that may need to be fixed so that it works
out of the box.

In the description that I've send to you, could you do a small change?
From KRadioRipper is a program for _ripping_... to KRadioRipper is a

to avoid confusion. But while writing the description, I've forget

[Bug 300122] Re: flash player crasches firefox

2009-05-20 Thread papiaud
me again,
while on this site I report as well on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yelp/+filebug-advanced/; saying I
have a problem with adobe flashpayer and not with yelp and reporting the
problem I got a question : see bottom of include part

 Include part :

0) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300122 (from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage) : exactly the same bug

1) Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10 (got from 'lsb_release -rd' nothing
found with System - About Ubuntu)
2) checking in Synaptic for adobe flash player I find flashplugin-nonfree
and flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound both non checked so not installed. I have
to say that I installed adobe flashplayer from the windows in google street
saying I need it to use Google street. On adobe site I selected flashplayer for
Ubuntu 8.10 . The installation went OK. And then see above the description of
the bug.
Question : is not the bug due to the fact that I installed adobe flash
player directly from internet as proposed by the link in google street and not
from Synaptic ?
Do I have to uninstall adobe flash player (how?) and install via synaptic the 2
flashplugin-nonfree packages?
Many thanks
regards

I tried symlinking /lib/firmware/aic94xx-seq.fw into the /lib/firmware
/kernel-version/aic94xx-seq.fw, and also download the latest firmware
from Adaptec. Still no luck. Ubuntu/Debian needs this fixed. I've got
4TB offline right now because of it.

[Bug 373576] Re: VNC server not sending updates to client

2009-05-20 Thread oZiRiz
Confirmed...jaunty 64 bit...but only when Compiz(Desktop Effects) is
(are) activated. When you switch to no effects(keine) it works fine.
maybe it's a problem with compiz and the vnc server or with the nvidia
driver.

nvidia-driver version: 180.44

i would also be happy about a workaround

[Bug 378800] [NEW] Permissions don't work

2009-05-20 Thread Remi Gauvin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wicd

Wick version 1.5.9-2 in jaunty, according to the docs in
/usr/share/doc/wicd, the user should need to be included in the netdev
group to be allowed to access the wick client and makes changes. I
create a new user that was not a member of any group (besides his own),
and when logged in as that user, I had no trouble opening wicd client
and disconnection / re-connecting the network.

** Affects: wicd (Ubuntu)

[Bug 378798] [NEW] installation of adobe flash player, then total freeze in firefox upon display of a small grey pop-up window

2009-05-20 Thread papiaud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

hello,
I installed adobe flash player 10 (automatic) to use google street.
Restarted : google street worked OK (this morning)
New start (this afternoon) / google / look for how to underline text in gedit
(search in french) / got answers on commentcamarche / click on link / got on
the left a small grey pop-up window, about 1/8th of the screen, with rounded
corners. Then total freeze : even the start button of the computer did nothing.
I had to unplug the computer (no switch on/off).
And now I report to you.
I am very new on Ubuntu, for less than 1 month, coming from XP malware infected
: 10 minutes to start, 10 minutes to shut down.
At the begining impressed by the immediate start of Ubuntu.
Now few seconds as I installed new programs (for webcam... and so on to work
quite the same as with XP).
Include part :

0) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300122 (from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage) : exactly the same bug

1) Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10 (got from 'lsb_release -rd' nothing
found with System - About Ubuntu)
2) checking in Synaptic for adobe flash player I find flashplugin-nonfree
and flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound both non checked so not installed. I have
to say that I installed adobe flashplayer from the windows in google street
saying I need it to use Google street. On adobe site I selected flashplayer for
Ubuntu 8.10 . The installation went OK. And then see above the description of
the bug.
Question : is not the bug due to the fact that I installed adobe flash
player directly from internet by the link in google street and not from
Synaptic ?
3) and 4) explained above : adobe flash payer working properly

I report as well on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300122 (from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage) : exactly the same bug

Thanks
Regards
