[Bug 217907] Re: Desktop CD fails to find media

2009-06-05 Thread Dion Stempfley
Was there a result or response here? I'm not sure if the udevadm
settle is actually a fix or just masking the problem. And, I saw in
some other code that the udevadm settle command was put in a loop
structure after a call to cryptsetup. It didn't seem right there, but I
don't understand udev enough to know. I wonder if the developer didn't
do the same thing I did and put it in just in case

/Dion

[Bug 383984] Re: Snapshot resync is broken. Proposed FIXs.

2009-06-05 Thread phl
Part 8 of 8

At halt/reboot time there is no automatic snapshot, b/c the symlink is
S89casper

FIX: rename it K89casper in /etc/rc{0,6}.d

Workaround (merge with workaround bug#1)
---
#!/bin/sh
# This file: /custom-installation/hooks/casper-bottom.sh
# Usage: have this file by that name and chmod +x on any partition and use
bootparam
#debian-installer/custom-installation=/custom-installation
# Bug workaround
# casper: updates made by try_snap() to /etc/casper.conf are lost
cp /etc/casper.conf /root/etc/casper.conf
# Bug workaround
# Bad symlinks /etc/rc{0,6].d/S89casper
rm /root/etc/rc0.d/S*casper
rm /root/etc/rc6.d/S*casper
ln -s ../init.d/casper /root/etc/rc0.d/K89casper
ln -s ../init.d/casper /root/etc/rc6.d/K89casper
---

At last, with these 8 bugs workarounded casper-snapshots resync work well !
It is an important wish that filesystem where snapshots are to be located not
be limited to (vfat/ext2). I known the point of mounting a journaled FS used by
an hibernated OS, but are developpers supposed to imagine every misuse of their
work ? The livetime of flash drive is a more important issue IMO, and xfs is
better suited than ext2/vfat.

(Also don't forget to workaround https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202050
which impedes -sn.cpio.gz from being used at startup time)

[Bug 139081] Re: (gutsy) pidgin exits when changing buddy icon

2009-06-05 Thread Saïvann Carignan
mosteo : I get a Forbidden page when trying to access the apport bug,
probably because it is filed for upstream pidgin project rather than
pidgin in ubuntu. If not already set, can you click on Also Affects
distribution and choose Ubuntu as the distribution, and pidgin as
the source package for the apport bug? That will probably allow access
to ubuntu bug control team to that bug while keeping it private.

[Bug 202050] Re: [Hardy] Snapshots in casper/ are ignored

2009-06-05 Thread phl
I was wrong, on 9.04, *-sn.cpio.gz are broken.

At startup time casper:try_snap() does cpio -i -u -d which fails as
for initrd/bin/cpio only -i is allowed.

Workaround:

!/bin/sh
# This file: /custom-installation/hooks/casper-premount.sh
# Usage: have this file by that name on any partition and use bootparam
#debian-installer/custom-installation=/custom-installation
# Bug workaround
# casper:try_snap() does cpio -i -u -d

mv /bin/cpio /bin/cpio.DIST

[Bug 384001] [NEW] ssh forwarded glx returns Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig against older servers

2009-06-05 Thread elupus
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Jaunty 9.04 from Hardy remote glx rendering (over ssh
or just network) against older servers is not working anymore.

Currently i've only tested against two X servers:
X-Win32
Mac OSX Leopard X11 Server

Both of which works fine on the same machine when rebooted into Hardy
(still available on another partition)

glxinfo outputs:
 name of display: localhost:10.0
Xlib: extension Generic Event Extension missing on display
 localhost:10.0.
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

xdpyinfo outputs that i have SGI-GLX and GLX extension, will attach the
full output later.

I suspect that newer glx client side libs must be needing something not
provided by the older servers.

Let me know what other types of logs that are of interest

[Bug 248144] Re: Intel 3945ABG fails on startup, computer needs reboot

2009-06-05 Thread KingNeil
By the way, when I ran sudo modprobe -r iwl3945 it disconnected the
Wifi as expected -- but then froze my computer, after which the caps
lock and some other symbol with a downward arrow continually flashed on
my keyboard. I had to turn off the computer with the power button and
start up again.

[Bug 213818] Re: thinkpad CPU overheat ubuntu hardy 8.04

2009-06-05 Thread Lucas Dixon
I've been trying various of the /proc/acpi/ibm/fan commands, but find
that none of them have any affect on the fan speed, except disable,
which reports it as being zero, but doesn't the laptop seem otherwise
unaffected. Disengaged mode also makes no difference.

Might this be a confusion between the old /proc/acpi/ibm interface and
the newer /sys/bus/platform/ one?

Given that these do not actually change the fan speed, there is still no
real workaround. One useful thing I found is to temporarily stop active
processes and wait for the lapot to cool down: sudo kill -STOP process-
id; but this is very far from satisfactory. For example, upgrading from
8.10 to 9.04 causes an overheat...

[Bug 384011] [NEW] LIRC didn't work with Home-brew (Igor Cesko's variant) IR receiver on Jaunty

2009-06-05 Thread Murz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

I have found an old bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lirc/+bug/138247), but it was
already solved, I open a new bug.

I have an Home-brew (Igor Cesko's variant) connected to COM2. But it didn't
work with my device but works with Girder 3.2 IgorXP.dll.
And I can't tune lirc to work with it!
I have install lirc, select Home-brew (Igor Cesko's variant)(16x50 UART
compatible serial port) in Receivers and None in Transmitters.
I try to set the option:
LIRC_SERIAL_CFLAGS= -DLIRC_SERIAL_SOFTCARRIER -DLIRC_SERIAL_IGOR
or not to set.
LIRC starts succesfully, but irw and mode2 shows none when I press the buttons
on IR Transmitter.

On starting LIRC I see in message.log:
Jun 5 21:08:52 kit kernel: [ 2393.195311] lirc_dev: IR Remote Control driver
registered, major 61
Jun 5 21:08:53 kit kernel: [ 2393.700880] lirc_serial_igor: auto-detected

sample_rate: 0

# lsmod | grep lirc
lirc_serial_igor 23336 0
lirc_dev 22088 1 lirc_serial_igor

I try this on two computers (one is fresh Jaunty, other - upgraded from
Intrepid).

What I do wrong and how to get it works with Jaunty?
Can I give you additional info about this problem?

[Bug 113344] Re: USB mouse freezes while using the keyboard

2009-06-05 Thread Przemysław Kulczycki
I think I have a related issue in Jaunty.
Sometimes after resuming from suspend my usb mouse stopped working - it worked
for a few seconds and then stopped. Same after replugging it or plugging to
different port. I don't know which helped - rebooting to Mac OS X for a moment,
or booting with usb mouse plugged in. But it helped.

[Bug 384012] [NEW] Include all binary packages in Main

2009-06-05 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

Trying to install python-gnome2-extras in my karmic-main chroot gives
this:

  python-gnome2-extras: Depends: python-gtkmozembed (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it
is not installable
Depends: python-eggtrayicon (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it
is not installable
Depends: python-gtkspell (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it is
not installable
Depends: python-gksu2 (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it is not
installable
Depends: python-gdl (= 2.25.3-2ubuntu1) but it is not
installable

Which causes a FTBFS for at least deskbar-applet.

The problem is that the python-gnome2-extras package was split into many
smaller pieces. But those pieces haven't yet been put into main.

So I'm requesting that python-gtkmozembed, python-eggtrayicon, python-
gtkspell, python-gksu2, and python-gdl be added to main, just like their
parent package is.

[Bug 384014] [NEW] Sony Ericsson W300i support broken on Jaunty

2009-06-05 Thread Desh Danz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic

I've always connected my Sony Ericsson w300i to Intrepid Ibex 64 bit via
USB, and Ubuntu regularly recognized the cell phone as an external hard
drive (to manage my pictures and videos), as well as a modem too
(something that I've never used though).

Recently I've upgraded the OS from Intrepid 64 bit to Jaunty 64 bit
(linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic) and that Ubuntu version seems to be unable to
recognize the cell.
I connect it via USB, as usual, but the system doesn't see the cell at all, the
lsusb command show nothing about the w300i:

lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

so I can't even mount the partitions via fstab.

I think it could be a kernel problem, but it can be a hal bug too, so I hope
you can help me!
Thank you a lot!

allowing adds it solves the problem. I guess there is no way for the
ad blocker to distinguish certain javascript used for navigation.

I found this from a conservation with another Firefox user running
windows.

[Bug 235819] Re: firefox3 freezes when draging a bookmark in menu

2009-06-05 Thread Marcus Schätzle
I have no ATI card though, that happens in Virtual Box for me. And John,
I did not say Firefox itself broke my partition. After the freeze I did
a hard reboot and my partition (ext4) was reported as irreparably
inconsistent. I had setup a test system with Ubuntu 9.04, did nothing
afterwards with the excecption of dragging a bookmark inside firefox,
which froze my system. As I told before I did this inside a virtual box
Ubuntu client (host is Windows XP).

[Bug 321098] Re: [jaunty regression] WLAN AP associating takes a very long time

2009-06-05 Thread cicoandcico
I marked bug #368760 as a duplicate of this, under suggestion of Peter

I can experience the problem in both flavours: association takes forever to
accomplish (and sometimes, two or three attempts), and wifi detection after
login takes ~40s (network set as system setting), while on intrepid it was
instantaneous.

[Bug 384017] [NEW] Loading /etc/bash_completion is slow

2009-06-05 Thread Singpolyma
Public bug reported:

Loading /etc/bash_completion takes over 0.5s (usually over 0.6s). While
this doesn't seem like much, maybe, it's very annoying for a file that
must be sourced in .bashrc. If it could go in .bash_profile, that would
be fine, but it seems bash is not designed to work that way for
completion rules.

I am on a 1.1Ghz Pentium M, so not ancient h/w. The 0.6s delay on
opening a new terminal is very annoying.

[Bug 384021] [NEW] ccsm script can't find compizconfig.so module *needs softlink*

2009-06-05 Thread Atir Javid
Public bug reported:

Info: No sexy-python package found, don't worry it's optional.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/bin/ccsm, line 38, in module

ccsm can't find this, so it doesn't launch. Compiz is unconfigurable.

/opt/kde3/lib/python2.6/site-packages/compizconfig.so
/opt/kde3/lib/pkgconfig
/opt/kde3/lib/pkgconfig/compizconfig-python.pc

As you can see, python does not know about compizconfig.so

cd /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages
sudo ln -s /opt/kde3/lib/python2.6/site-packages/compizconfig.so

This fixes the problem.

The python-compizconfig package should conflict with python-
compizconfig-kde3 and should install to /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-
packages, OR at least create a symlink there to piont to where the file
is located.

This one specific kde package should conflict with its kde4 equivalent
because the python modules are different versions, and some methods
don't exist in the kde3 version causing a broken ccsm.

Please advise. Thank you very much.

[Bug 372944] Re: Jaunty can't play dvd

2009-06-05 Thread Matti Viljanen
Configming. Steps to reproduce:
* Install from desktop live cd (32-bit in my case)
* Update packages
* Insert DVD
* Choose to open with Totem
* Totem tells that GStreamer is missing a plugin (I think, I'm currently at
Finnish desktop)

(If Totem first tries and installs some decoders is unknown to me, since
I had some codecs downloaded beforehand...)

This is truly annoying. Plus, Ogle isn't found anymore in default
repositories...

[Bug 383964] Re: AMD ZM-86 Processor not correctly reconized

2009-06-05 Thread Dave Lentz
This CPU underclocks to 600MHz at idle. This is expected behavior.
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Turion%20X2%20Ultra%20ZM-86%20-%20TMZM86DAM23GG.html
Processor runs at 600 MHz / 0.8 Volt core voltage in the minimum performance
state

You could force it to 2.4GHz at all times by setting cpufreq to
performance governor, but this is not recommended, as it will reduce
battery life.

[Bug 383002] Re: KMS on karmic with i845 inivisible cursor

2009-06-05 Thread jerrylamos
Cursor is back again and works with:

Linux version 2.6.30-999-generic (r...@zinc) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu
4.2.3-2ubuntu7)) #1244192415 SMP Fri Jun 5 09:45:34 UTC 2009

from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds

GtkPerf is still slow on i845 about the same as 2.6.30-5

KMS modeset 1 takes 42.5 seconds
KMS modeset 0 takes 40.3 seconds

For comparison, Vesa is still fastest on this i845:

vesa takes 27 seconds with 2.6.30-5

Not sure when/if 2.6.30-999 versions will be on Karmic. I'll check
Alpha 2.

Re: [Bug 382812] Re: Large downloads cause SATA link timeout/reset and loss of disk access

2009-06-05 Thread Andy Whitcroft
That is excellent news. It might be worth you also trying the latest
kernel for Karmic. This kernel has the Ubuntu delta applied but is
otherwise the same v2.6.30-rc8 kernel which you reported as good on your
system. That would boad well for Karmic at least.
