[Bug 73343] Re: Gnome-panel locks each applet (or each element). Global lock is better

2009-06-27 Thread Jossele
I Agree:
One lock(customize) for the whole toolbar and disallow removel if locked.

Benefits
- less clutterd right click menus on applets (3 menu items less): let the user
focus on what he wants to do
- dont remove menu bars accidently (I've installed ubuntu for my mother and
everytime(!!) i have a look at it some applets are accidently missing)

[Bug 376024] Re: alsa-utils missing asoundconf

2009-06-27 Thread Susan Cragin
Is there a current solution for someone who has permanently removed pulseaudio,
other than regressing alsa-utils?
I have a system where I will never install pulseaudio. I need speech
recognition, and my machine uses audio only to access Dragon NaturallySpeaking
through wine. Pasuspender and padsp cause problems and seem to add latency.
Will the old alsa-utils work, going forward?

[Bug 392898] [NEW] prevu error: No space left on device

2009-06-27 Thread R (Chandra) Chandrasekhar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: prevu

I am trying to compile kate from Karmic source using prevu on a Jaunty
machine with lots of hard disk space on all partitions. I have confirmed
that no partition is even close to maxing out. The highest usage is on
my root (/) partition at 59.6% with almost 8 GB free.

The build of qt4-x11-4.5.1 proceeds successfully until almost the end
when it fails with the message:

---
cp: writing `debian/libqt4-qt3support//usr/lib/libQt3Support.so.4.5.1': No
space left on device
dh_install: command returned error code 256
make: *** [binary-install/libqt4-qt3support] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: failure: fakeroot debian/rules binary gave error exit status2
---

Other relevant information:

1. lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

2. apt-cache policy prevu
revu:
  Installed: 1:0.5.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:0.5.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:0.5.2-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au jaunty/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3. What you expected to happen
I expected the prevu compilation from source to complete as there was no other
error before this.

4. What happened instead
Compilation/installation aborted with the error message given above.

I have two questions:

(a) Why does this error occur?

(b) How can I work around it?

Many thanks.
P.S. Perhaps the problem is with an underlying python script or another package
but I have encountered the error in prevu.

Nick, I've seen you uploaded this to karmic, but it FTBFS there also.
FYI: When building your package with pbuilder, use 'sudo pbuilder

test better if your package builds.

[Bug 73343] Re: Gnome-panel locks each applet (or each element). Global lock is better

2009-06-27 Thread Andy.hall06

I know this bug report is a duplicate and seems to be marked confirmed and
triaged (except for the 100 bugs project) but I think it should be considered
for the 100 papercuts project because the older bugs were filed and appraised 2
and 3 years ago (and not as part of this project) and still haven't been fixed
upstream! Is anyone even looking at them now?

If ubuntu could fix it for its distribution it would be nice especially
because it seems to be a trivial change and fits perfectly into the
papercut definition.

Thanks

[Bug 392903] [NEW] EXIF information is lost on gallery export

2009-06-27 Thread Simon Niechzial
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kipi-plugins

Description:Ubuntu 9.04

If I export images to a remote Gallery (Gallery 2) and do a local resize (via
option available in the plugin) the exif information (especially camera and
geo) is lost. This seems similar to a very old bug
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129856 that was already solved (0.8.2-rc1).

This is fixed in kipi-plugins 0.4.0 svn, see

[Bug 391413] Re: [karmic]kernel 2.6.30-10-generic breaks suspend with video-intel 2.7*

2009-06-27 Thread Bart Kroon
I may have been to eger to report this bug since it doesn't affect me
anymore, maybe because I also insalled the karmic versions of acpid,
acpi-support and pm-utils. This should also cover the kms quirks. the
only thing that doesn't work is dpms support. I can succesfully suspend
my machine by clossing the lid, I tested this with all my kernels
(2.6.28-13-generic, 2.6.30-9-generic, 2.6.30-10-generic and self
compiled 2.6.30).

About the dpms problem it looks more like bug #383973. but it seems this
started after I installed some mesa packages which missed the upgrade
the first time round (don't know exactly which and why).

maybe this bug should just be clossed as ist starting to look more and
more like support and not a bug, I would like to apologise for that.

[Bug 392910] [NEW] duplex printing with gnome apps not possible

2009-06-27 Thread Martin
Public bug reported:

I have an HP Officejet Pro L7590 printer with duplex unit installed.
Since hplip 3.9.6 the new hpcups driver is used for this printer by

Anyway in the print dialog of evince or gedit I have only one option in

It seems to me the problem is with hasciicam and not UVC. UVC is a v4l2

updated in hasciicam? I'm not sure.

[Bug 386740] Re: [K8M800] mouse pointer corruptly displayed at the bottom of the X screen

2009-06-27 Thread Bartosz
Thanks for your detailed investigation.
I think the main problem is incorrect virtual size with panel.
When the second monitor is connected, then virtual size is taken from external
monitor and X runs perfectly.

You said that after add checkpoints, the X have started correctly (some timing
issue?).
Could you please check which exactly checkpoint is needed to run X correctly?

You can't reproduce it with the default gnome panel setup. In order to
reproduce the bug, the panel containing the window list must have its
Expand property turned off. Once you do that, the bug appears
sporadically.

echo blacklist video | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/local

This above worked for me on an ASUS X71Q and Ubuntu Jaunty with
2.6.28-13-generic. After running the above and rebooting, then hitting
F5 (brightness up) until it reached max, all of the problems went away.
I can't use the gnome-panel brightness applet of course, but my Fn keys
still work fine.

Building devicekit-power from git master up to commit

commit e66bc06cfda0e183f77f40f39fb03e6782023511
Author: Richard Hughes rich...@hughsie.com
Date: Fri Jun 26 15:02:56 2009 +0100

Fix a small memory leak on supply coldplugging

which includes the pm-powersave commit that was added as a patch works
correctly as well, so I'm thinking the patch might be reliant on another
change past 008. Note that neither of us saw the failures until
rebooting after updating so the problem might not have hit alot of
people yet. Attached is the changelog from the package I built because
the fdo Devicekit-Power cgit page is in an odd state right now and not
displaying the commits on master.

2009-06-27 Thread Robert Hooker
Also having this problem here, mentioned it in the duped bug here --

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/392906

reverting devicekit-power also fixes it for me. It seems like the pm-
powersave commit that was added as a patch might be reliant on other
commits post 008 to work right because it functions properly building
from git master, but not when only that commit is added as in 0ubuntu1.

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-06-27 Thread Andreas Nilsson
Here is a comparison between the size of the chrome (gray) and the area where
you see the actual files (green) in the default nautilus window size on a new
(guest) account. This does not take into account tabs or the bar that appears
when you're about copy files to a writable cd.
Solving this bug would mean more space for the green area.

With my icon designer hat on, icons such as Visualization in Rhythmbox
benefit from a label, as it's a much less common symbol in our everyday
lives than arrows (that are practically everywhere), so I don't believe
dropping the labels from those icons will impact notably on the
learnability of the interface.

[Bug 392918] [NEW] large memory leak in devkit-daemon?

Public bug reported:

last night around midnight i updated karmic. this morning i woke up to
find that devkit-daemon was using up 2.8 GB. yes, GB, as in gigabytes.
i'm pretty sure that's not right...

also gnome-power-manager is pegged at 100% CPU, but i'm guessing that
has to do with the above problem.
