[Bug 362196] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in signal handler called()

2009-09-03 Thread Jacob Taylor
When it Crashed for me, it ( as far as I could tell) never actually
crashed. Unless it was before I got to the login screen or something, it
never visibly crashed. I'm not sure what crashing xorg would look like,
but it definetely didn't look out of character at all when the thing
popped up saying something (xorg) had crashed.

Hi Pedro,

Thanks for responding.
I will test this out when I download Karmic. In the meantime, I can report
that the problem doesn't occur in Jaunty, so I presume it will be ok in
Karmic too. (I was able to get Intrepid to work by forcing it to keep nm
0.6 .)

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: network-manager

Just upgraded from ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10, i.e. network manager 0.7

trying to log into a wireless network the 'authentication required' dialog
 appears not to display properly.
There are no fields to enter username and password, and 'Connect' is grayed
 out.
This means I am unable to connect to network at all, and hence downgrading
to nm 0.6 or installing any potential patch is going to be tough.

 Please see attached screenshot.

Doesn't appear to be a general problem so may be something related to my
 hardware:
 I am using a Dell 1420 laptop with Intel corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
 [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02).

[Bug 211717] Re: knetworkmanager - manual configuration doesn't load (kde4)

2009-09-03 Thread Jonathan Thomas
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Kubuntu better. The KDE3 version of KNetworkManager has been
discontinued by its original authors. This unfortunately means that
there will be no more bugfix releases, and updates in general will be
limited to those fixing security flaws.

While we cannot fix your bug, the good news is that the applet has been
totally rewritten for KDE4 in the upcoming Kubuntu 9.10 release. There
is a good chance that this bug is no longer an issue with the new
applet. If you find any similar or new issues with the applet included
in Kubuntu 9.10, we would politely ask you to file them as new bugs
against the plasma-widget-networkmanagement package.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 423777] [NEW] Firefox causes System freeze on allowing Scripts with NoScript when webpage has Flash content

2009-09-03 Thread maxx
Public bug reported:

i already posted this issue on the NoScript Forum here
http://forums.informaction.com/viewtopic.php?f=7t=2295start=30 and in
the end i was suggested to ask for help here, after posting one in the
answers sections and no replies so far i thought it might be a bug,
here it is:

i run ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid ibex) have ff 3.0.13 installed with noscript
1.9.8.7 extension.
first of all i have to say i never had this kind of problems with ff or ns,
before i was running kubuntu 8.04 (hardy heron) and it all went well, i didnt
upgrade to ubuntu, i formatted the hard drive, so this is a fresh install.

every time i enter a webpage with flash content i encounter the same
issue: before i thought it was a flash-plugin problem, then i tried
out all of them (proprietary, nonfree, gnash) nothing changed, of course
before to install one another i was removing all traces of the previous
one as the procedure explains.

if accessing youtube.com (e.g.) and temporary allowing youtube.com and ytmg.com
(in order to make the page re-load without noscript blocking flash, firefox
freezes,it gets stuck and i can do nothing, cannot click anywhere at all (have
to enter tt1 and kill the process from bash).
in case i allow scripts globally before to enter youtube.com, or if i allow
the all page then i can watch the video clips without any problem.

i was told the problem could have been the only other extension i have
instlled on ff (Ubuntu Firefox Modifications) then I disabled that add-
on like you suggested (I didn't even know it was there) restart ff but
nothing changed, same thing.

i have an Nvidia 9600 GT correctly installed with proprietary drivers
(version 180) automatically found by ubuntu, plus I tried both with
Compiz or without it (with metacity of course), in case Compiz was the
problem.

here http://paste.ubuntu.com/261489/ is the output if running firefox
from a terminal, dmesg doesn't seem to report any output about this
issue.

if there's anything else you need to know or you want me to try out
please let me know, i'll be checking this thread every day, i love
ubuntu as much as i like using ff with noscript, so i really hope
someone is going to be able to help me

thanks, max

[Bug 423783] [NEW] Resuming From Hibernation Fails on Ubuntu 9.04

2009-09-03 Thread rusivi
Public bug reported:

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

2) N/A

3) What was expected to happen was that the computer would go into and
resume from hibernation without any problems.

4) I hibernated my computer, which appeared to hibernate successfully.
After pressing the power button, the normal screens that popped up pre-
login screen would show up for a second and then the image would reduce
vertically 25%, and become striated, and changed colors. After about 20
seconds the anticipated login screen occurred. The correct credentials
were put in and seemingly accepted. After a few seconds a blank screen
was present. However, what was noticed was that if the mouse was placed
over known Desktop icons, the mouse icon would change from an arrow to a
fist with the index finger pointed up.

Hence, it seems the OS is functioning, but the video card did not resume
from hibernate properly?

Please let me know what further information is desired and it will be
promptly provided.

This is -- per chance, I guess -- being discussed right now upstream,
with a new bug opened there. I have added the upstream bug task here,
and am marking this bug as Triaged.

A good discussion point for this bug is the coreutils mailing list (bug-

[Bug 276138] Re: [intrepid] KNetworkManager causes ~20 wakeups/second

[Bug 292086] Re: Fix zstar vimicro webcam (0ac8:303b)

2009-09-03 Thread Chris Carlin
There was an old system (v4l) for accessing cameras, and it was changed
to a new, incompatible system (v4l2). A lot of programs (most?) were
updated to use the new system, but some programs were not updated.

The LD_PRELOAD trick allows old-style programs to operate with the new
system, but it's meant to be only a temporary patch.

In short, if the LD_PRELOAD trick fixes an issue you're having, then the
problem is in the program, not the driver.

is a good chance that this bug is no longer an issue with the new
applet. If you find any similar or new issues with the applet included
in Kubuntu 9.10, we would politely ask you to file them as new bugs
against the plasma-widget-networkmanagement package.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 223780] Re: hdc: status error: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }

2009-09-03 Thread Stefan Bader
I build a new set of test kernels against the current Hardy kernel.
However, if this really should get fixed, I need someone who is affected
by the problem to report how that proposed fix works. See my above post
on how to activate the alternate setting and where to get the test
kernel. Thanks!

[Bug 423776] Re: lsdvd crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

2009-09-03 Thread Alex Bennee
Is this a disk that has worked before? I'm completely guessing as I
don't have lsdvd on any Ubuntu systems, but on other systems I've seen
crashes with interesting discs. I'd done a hacky patch to it to make it
slightly more robust:

commit aadfb3181c94b6e1ee1708fd256df5654e5533a4
Author: Alex Bennee a...@bennee.com
Date: Thu Aug 21 11:59:02 2008 +0100

Make the main loop more robust to NULL ifos (which may be a libdvd
bug or a side effect of ARccOS disks)

Gnash at least says that gnash is installed:

Shockwave Flash
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r999. Gnash 0.8.5, the NGU SWF Player...

Please take a look at the attached screenshot.
