[Bug 458637] Re: samba client unable to access Windows 7 shares

2009-12-12 Thread BillD
Thanks to Yejun above.

Removing windows live sign-in assistant program has fixed it for me
too - I can use my WIndows 7 printer and access shared folders using my
windows user/password, whereas before Win 7 appeared to be refusing to
accept the credentials.

[Bug 493727] Re: date('Y') returns 0000 on big endian machines

2009-12-12 Thread Dennis
For what it's worth, I fixed the bug on my own PPC system by doing the
following:

# install stuff needed to build PHP5:
apt-get install dpkg-dev build-essential
apt-get build-dep php5

# download the sources:
cd /usr/src
apt-get source php5

#Now apply the diff from:
http://forums.matrix.squiz.net/index.php?showtopic=6607

# recompile PHP5:
cd php5-5.2.10.dfsg.1
dpkg-buildpackage -uc -b

# manually install the deb files onto your system, choose all the packages you
had installed before:
cd ..
dpkg -i php5_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_all.deb
php5-common_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
libapache2-mod-php5_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-cli_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-curl_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-dev_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-gd_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-mhash_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-mysql_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-recode_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-sqlite_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-xsl_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb

I'm not Ubuntu packaging expert so I'm probably not doing it the right
way. Also, because I didn't change the version number (I don't know
how) the update mechanism might try to overwrite it with the old buggy
version.

[Bug 345234] Re: Network interfaces names changed in KVM guest cloned with virt-clone

2009-12-12 Thread Lennart Karssen
I'm experiencing the same thing here. The host runs Ubuntu 9.10 server, the
guest as well.
I think this bug results from the fact that virt-clone changes the MAC address
of the quest. If I remember correctly debian-based distributions change the
name of a network interface if they detect a new MAC address.

[Bug 345234] Re: Network interfaces names changed in KVM guest cloned with virt-clone

2009-12-12 Thread Lennart Karssen
I found this thread on the Ubuntu forums that also discusses this
problem (in combination with VMware, but that's beside the point, since
this happens whenever an ubuntu/debian system is cloned):
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1045715

There are several solutions to this bug:
- Simply delete /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules either before or
after the cloning, or edit the file after cloning.
- Remove execute permissions from /lib//udev/write_net_rules, but that results
in an error on startup
- Edit /lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules so that it ignores
MAC addresses from VMware or KVM. For Xen such a line already exists:
# ignore Xen virtual interfaces
SUBSYSTEMS==xen, GOTO=persistent_net_generator_end

From the forum post above, add the following for VMware
# ignore VMware network interfaces identified by vendor part of MAC addr
ENV{MATCHADDR}==00:0c:29:*, GOTO=persistent_net_generator_end

For KVM and virt-clone I added these:
# ignore KVM virtual interfaces
ENV{MATCHADDR}==52:54:00:*, GOTO=persistent_net_generator_end
# This eems to be the range used by Xen, but also by virt-clone
ENV{MATCHADDR}==00:16:36:*, GOTO=persistent_net_generator_end

Make sure these lines are after the following lines:
# read MAC address
ENV{MATCHADDR}=$attr{address}

This worked for me.

[Bug 345234] Re: Network interfaces names changed in KVM guest cloned with virt-clone

I consider this to be a bug, since only Xen devices seem to be taken
care of, but KVM/Qemu devices aren't. A fix for this is mentioned in the
comments.

2009-12-12 Thread jerrylamos
Neil, thanks for looking. No, the problem didn't reproduce after the
fresh install and aptitude update. Shares-admin works now so the
problem can be closed as written however that's done.

Unfortunately the 2.6.32-7 kernel is pretty unstable with the desktop
locking up when I try to write this comment. Crl-Alt-F1 still works so
I can do a halt reboot. I'm trying again to make the post from the
2.6.32-5 kernel on the same install so maybe it will work.

Thanks again, Jerry

[Bug 496008] [NEW] public key authentication grants access even for locked accounts

2009-12-12 Thread ceg
Public bug reported:

Disabling/locking a user account will not prevent a user from logging into your
server remotely if they have previously set up public key authentication.

A workaround is to restrict access to a sshlogin group and parallely
maintaining it,
https://help.ubuntu.com/9.10/serverguide/C/user-management.html
however sshd should always check if user has not been locked (PAM).

[Bug 496008] Re: public key authentication grants access even for locked accounts

2009-12-12 Thread bugboy
From my understanding, this is standard behavior. I also believe it's
documented in the manpages. I think you can use this to restrict
password authentication for particular accounts although the proper way
to go about it would be to deny password authentication for everyone
except those users Matched in sshd_config. But yes, it's probably
unnecessary.

[Bug 494552] Re: Cannot unmount SMB share after connection goes down.

2009-12-12 Thread Dave Walker
Stavros:

I think we're going to need some additional information. Could you
please paste these commands into the terminal and copy/paste the output.

dpkg-query -W -f='${Package} ${Version} ${Source} ${Status}\n' | grep samba
smbclient -L //remote_system

Could you also paste this command into the terminal and attach the
resulting gvfs.txt

lsof | grep gfvs gvfs.txt

Also include on what kind of machine the share is located (Windows 2003
Server, Ubuntu 8.04, NAS box model...)?

 Very very sad.

I agree with everyone that this issue should be fixed in Ubuntu,
somehow. But has anyone even bothered to complain at their ISP or modem
provider, who are the actual cause of this issue?

DNS Resolution isn't some small part of a operating system, you cannot
'just fix this here a bit' and see what happens.

So, give the developers some time to fix this issue and do it right, and
don't forget to complain at your own suppliers.

[Bug 494552] Re: Cannot unmount SMB share after connection goes down.

2009-12-12 Thread Dave Walker
Stavros:

I can recreate the bug so I am marking it confirmed. You should still
post the required information listed in my previous post.

The bug is reproducible by opening a streaming file (such as music or a
video) on a samba share then attempting to unmount the share while the
file is still open. I had to right-click on the share icon found on the
desktop and click 'unmount' 2 or 3 times and the error message appeared
after 60-120 seconds.

The error message is simply saying we attempted to unmount but the
server is not allowing us to close the connection. My personal
solution would be to find the thread holding the file open and terminate
it but that could have many unintended consequences if this process were
automated.

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

[Bug 351032] Re: Desktop locks up when wireless network drops

2009-12-12 Thread Tom Chiverton
You can automate the replacement of knetworkmanager by writing a file
.kde/Autostart/nm-applet :
#!/bin/bash
sleep 10
killall /usr/bin/knetworkmanager
nm-applet

then chmod +x it.

Can't believe this hasn't been fixed as a higher priority - simple
sliding the hardware enable/disable switch is enough to trigger it !

[Bug 194919] Re: libopenal needs replacement

2009-12-12 Thread David Robert Lewis
Apparently the problem is fixed with an ALSA upgrade
http://monespaceperso.org/blog-en/2009/10/29/upgrade-alsa-1-0-21-on-
ubuntu-karmic-koala-9-10/. Ihaven't tried this yet because I don't want
to touch my pulseaudio installation. Waiting for an official release via
Synaptic.

Is http://kcat.strangesoft.net/openal-releases/openal-
soft-1.5.304.tar.bz2 recommended fix then?

[Bug 464712] Re: Black screen + freeze when suspending or hibernating with mounted SD Card

2009-12-12 Thread Aaron Peterson
This bug makes my computer completely unusable. can those scripts be
pushed thru with an update? This is the kind of thing that keeps people
from using an operating system... don't even stick around to file a
bug.. just move on.

I can deal with the script/setting change... but this has been going on
for months. Please Please fix it for the sake of our users. How much
donation does it take to get this fixed? I can't afford to have my
computer suspend deleting all of my work again because it can't resume.

Re: [Bug 214727] Re: mplayer should be in universe

2009-12-12 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Julien Lavergne julien.laver...@gmail.com writes:

 - libmp3lame-dev
 - libxvidcore4-dev

I believe that both can be promoted to universe. libfaac should probably
 removed from ubuntu.

There is still the patent problem which prevent those packages to go
into universe since the beginning of Ubuntu. And I'm not aware of any
progress on this, but I can be wrong (I hope :) )

What patent problem?

See http://wiki.ubuntu.com/PatentPolicy for the updated policy ubuntu
has on patents.

please note that x264 is already in universe, so patents shouldn't be
the problem for libxvidcore4-dev.

lame could need further investigation, though.

[Bug 472978] Re: Save to pgm actually saves to pnm

2009-12-12 Thread Juho Vepsäläinen
Apparently PIL saves PGM internally as PPM unless you convert the image
to grayscale first. Add proper check for format to fix the issue
(perhaps to imtools save?).

Here's a test case I used to verify this behavior:
from Image import open

im = open('Lenna.png')

gim = im.convert('L')
gim.save('Lenna1.pgm')
im.save('Lenna2.pgm')
im.save('Lenna3.ppm')

[Bug 495790] [NEW] cover art plugin partially working

2009-12-12 Thread gianluca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm not sure it is really a new one, but looking at the bugs list there
was always something different the version or slightly the description.
So, if it is a duplication, sorry.

Ubuntu 9.04
Rhythmbox 0.12.0-0ubuntu4
Cover Art plugin

1) The cover fetching is not working, the searching... message stays
forever. However, the drop option is fine.

2) The configure button is not available (not highlighted), I do not
know if this is normal.

Two additional features that might be really useful for next release
(and this is probably the wrong place where write them):

a) the possibility to fetch covers for songs not currently played

b) the possibility to embed the cover into the mp3 (as easytag allows)

thanks for your work
best

[Bug 493727] Re: date('Y') returns 0000 on big endian machines

2009-12-12 Thread Dennis
For what it's worth, I fixed the bug on my own PPC system by doing the
following:

# install stuff needed to build PHP5:
apt-get install dpkg-dev build-essential
apt-get build-dep php5

# download the sources:
cd /usr/src
apt-get source php5

#Now apply the diff from:
http://forums.matrix.squiz.net/index.php?showtopic=6607

# recompile PHP5:
cd php5-5.2.10.dfsg.1
dpkg-buildpackage -uc -b

# manually install the deb files onto your system, choose all the packages you
had installed before:
cd ..
dpkg -i php5_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_all.deb
php5-common_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
libapache2-mod-php5_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-cli_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-curl_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-dev_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-gd_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-mhash_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-mysql_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-recode_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-sqlite_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb
php5-xsl_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.3_powerpc.deb

I'm not Ubuntu packaging expert so I'm probably not doing it the right
way. Also, because I didn't change the version number (I don't know
how) the update mechanism might try to overwrite it with the old buggy
version.

[Bug 476154] Re: Stack trace on console, can not do clean shutdown

2009-12-12 Thread rednose
Hello,

thx all for the update, it solves the issue of suspend/resume cycle with
b43 too. I was forced to manually rmmod/modprobe the b43 module if I
wanted to suspend/resume my mac.

Somehow I still need to do it, because AFTER a resume the b43 module,
even if loaded (lsmod) is not working. I need to manually unload and
reload b43 to have the wifi waked up.

Ciao
