[Bug 413894] Re: [Karmic] Typo in vm.py

2010-11-06 Thread Evan Broder
The broken code was moved into a different file in Lucid, and the
mistyped mask was fixed as well.

This problem only affects Karmic, and only if you explicitly specify an
IP address, don't specify a netmask, and give an IP address whose first
octet is between 128 and 192 (non-inclusive)

[Bug 384633] Re: Grub Installer gets devices wrong when running from live USB

2010-11-06 Thread Ubfan
We both agree the second grub file will boot linux. I doubt it will boot
windows, but don't care.
Look at the LINUX line from first grub.cfg file from a 4G stick install, four
lines cut out below:

set root='(hd2,msdos1)'
 search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 0ddfb60a-4791-45c9-85ec-c13c42c459af
 echo 'Loading Linux 2.6.35-22-generic ...'
 linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic root=/dev/sdc1 ro single

It's the root=/dev/sdc1 part which makes boot fail, EVERY TIME. Surely
you will admit that this overrides the search UUID business?

I do nothing to cause the device to be used instead of the UUID.

Installs to 4G sticks seem to get the device and will not boot without editing
the grub commands.
Installs to a USB hard disk seem to get the UUID and will work for the first
linux boot.

After so many bad installs to non-booting sticks, I tend to edit the
grub commands at first boot and fix the obvious wrong items, and not to
even try to see if the boot works. In addressing this bug, it is of
interest that the problem is not consistently a problem with USB
installs, since the USB hard disks will actually boot.

[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-11-06 Thread Rhubarb
Have just re-installed a fresh copy of 10.10 up-to-date as of today. The bug
still effects me.
After applying Kenneth's fix (see comment #68) all is working well.

I've done a little digging around, and it seems there is no elegant way to get
it working.
I can't find an elegant way to get
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-settings-daemon.desktop to load after everything else.

The following doesn't enable one to choose which applications upon login to
load in serial (or have requisite apps loaded beforehand):
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html

I did notice a symlink in /etc/xdg/autostart/nvidia-autostart.desktop that
links with /etc/alternatives/nvidia-autostart.desktop
which in-turn links with /usr/share/nvidia-current/nvidia-autostart.desktop
(see attached)
Which essentially has:
Exec=sh -c '/usr/bin/nvidia-settings --load-config-only'

I deleted the link /etc/xdg/autostart/nvidia-autostart.desktop to see if it
made any difference.
It turns out it seems to make no difference at all if
gnome-settings-daemon.desktop is configured to:-
* not start at all - get ugly theme
* start immediately (default setting) - get ugly theme
* start after 1 or 2 seconds (which is Kenneth's fix) - theme works nicely

I hope there's an elegant fix for all this, so it can be sent out to
patch other existing maverick users.

Very strange, because the used custom icon theme does inherit oxygen
