[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings
@Shimi Chen, thank you for testing, but this way of reporting is counter-constructive, since it's not reproducible. Please supply minimal live examples of: * good and bad Hebrew archives * descriptions of how did you construct them. Scripts for automated testing are especially welcome. * files attempted to compress, under surely good archiver (I see 7z is good) * files extracted after bad compression, also under surely good archiver Here is the test data I prepared for many languages along with test automation script, if something is incomplete for Hebrew (additional letter elements like Latin diacritics ?), please add. With reproducible tests at hand, I will try to contact the patch authors, or if this fail, we should give this problem to some highly international team (at a university ?). ** Attachment added: Test data suite and automation script. https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/unzip/+bug/580961/+attachment/1803433/+files/non-English_file_names.7z -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580961 Title: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: sd Dear Ubuntu Friends, I write because I have an error on my ubuntu, is a grave error. My computer is an OKI NB0108 has a SD card reader. I do many pictures and videos for a web page I have on a locality. The error comes when I put the SD card in my computer with Ubuntu, and when I give a copy to all content, and I keep a folder on my Ubuntu system, instantly disappears entire contents of my SD card, alone on the folder you've saved. Already happened to me ten times, and when I try to recover with recovery software is unable to recover all the content. I hope that since ubuntu is to review the situation, and find which is the bug that causes it to erase all data on the SD card and make them go away completely without chance of recovery, nor are stored anywhere on your hard disk where I have installed Ubuntu. I hope they make all the necessary steps to repair this situation. So far I have had to change the operating system until you solve this problem in Ubuntu. I tested with different SD cards of 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 16, 32 GB and all data is lost in a unrecoverable. I hope you will manage and arrange everything properly. Re: [Bug 672177] Re: libc6 upgrade causes umount to fail on shutdown because init cannot be restarted
On Sat, 2011-01-22 at 11:50 +, ingo wrote: Thanks for Lucid-fix. I did immediately test with new 'libc6' and 'upstart' from Lucid-proposed: 1. just new 'libc6' - does not change anything (8 orphaned inodes after reboot). 2. + new 'upstart' - gives 1 orphaned inode after reboot. 3. new ('libc6' + 'upstart'), 'apt-get install --reinstall libc6 shutdown -r now' - 4 orphaned inodes. So it improves the situation definitely, but does not solve it completely. Did I miss something to update? No Ingo, you did everything right, I see similar effects. That is why sysvinit was added to the bug report. The issue is that while we've restored the ability to tell init to re-exec itself, we have also introduced a race condition. telinit u exits as soon as it has sent SIGTERM to pid 1. Almost the very next line in /etc/init.d/umountroot attempts the remount of / as readonly. If the signal handler doesn't complete the re-exec before this, then the remount will still fail. I've been testing a few ways to make telinit or umountroot block until init re-execs. The important thing is that this way 10.04.2 will ship with an init that *can* re-exec. If you add 'sleep 1' after the telinit u line in /etc/init.d/umountroot, that should give you a much better chance of succeeding the remount. Hopefully there will be a proper fix available for that early next week, but I don't know if it will be accepted for 10.04.2 or have to come as an update to 10.04.2. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/672177 Title: libc6 upgrade causes umount to fail on shutdown because init cannot be restarted -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

First of all, I have my lastfm account connected with Rhythmbox. The problem concerns the scrobbling. When I listen to a radio, it only scrobbles the first song. The list keeps playing and if I refresh my lastfm page I can still see scrobbling from Rhythmbox but the followinf songs aren't scrobbled. Hope it will get solved soon. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/706418 Title: Only scrobbles the first song of a list -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 701753] Re: Internal HDD thrashing when using Transmission
Peter, I wish I had a more helpful answer to give you, but all of this sounds consistent with my previous comments -- (1) Linux's NTFS drivers do not play nicely with high volumes of random disk reads and writes, such as those generated by p2p applications. You may want to use a different filesystem than NTFS. (The same holds true for encrypted filesystems, by the way.) (2) You can also try to reduce the frequency of disk reads and writes by using Transmission 2.10 or higher, which has a memory cache for this purpose. I know about the ppa URL listed above, but I'm not an Ubuntu user myself, so I don't know how to use that URL in Ubuntu. Your Linux Expert friend might have better ideas on this. (3) If the hard drive is literally buzzing from the strain of all the disk reads and writes, it also may be a sign of impending disk failure. You might want to make a backup of that disk before doing anything else. ** Changed in: transmission (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/701753 Title: Internal HDD thrashing when using Transmission -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 504440] Re: sd card safely remove drive kills reader device
Two ideas: (1) Is there any way to implement a reconnect device option, as suggested in comment #7 some months ago? While less than ideal, this would be one way to help people who make this mistake to recover from it themselves. (2) Alternatively, a language change to the context menu, so the item concerned does not say Safely remove drive, but instead says something closer to Power down external device might help, since it then (a) sounds a bit scarier and (b) does not look so similar to the Windows message people are apparently confusing it with. Won't fix seems inappropriate to me. If I can't be fixed at a deeply technical kernel level, fine, let's come up with a way to minimize the issue at a UI level instead. After boot I have a stable NTSC output but can switch to PAL using xrandr --output TV1 --set mode PAL. BTW: If there is no connection to the TV set at boot time, xrandr will always show TV1 disconnected no matter if I plug in the TV out cable or not. I checked the encoding of the file by clicking File / Save As... (which allows to check the encoding), and I noticed it was ISO-8859-1. I made a copy of calendar.ics just in case, and saved a copy after forcing UTF-8 encoding in the Save as... dialog box. That solved the problem (except that accented letters were mangled -- not a big deal). Hope this works for other as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655405 Title: evolution calendar-, task- and notivication-lists crashes by opening -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 579876] Re: encrypted home directory doesn't mount after password change
This bug is very critical. It also happens when you change a password using the user management module in KDE's system settings. When you use system settings it asks for the admin password then it runs the password change as root. The next time you login you're hosed. You have to drop down to console and change your password back because the home directory stays encrypted by your old password. Bad, bad, bad. All methods of changing a password should do EXACTLY the same thing or set of things. If you have more than one person on a server, you could lock someone out just by changing their password as root (which could happen if that user forgot his password and called you to have i reset). I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 + current patches with KDE 4.5.5. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579876 Title: encrypted home directory doesn't mount after password change -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 256767] Re: USB devices work, but constant syslog errors unable to enumerate USB device on port 5
In any case, is there SOME WAY to disable this message?!?!?!? I can not use ANY of the terminals, I jump from one to another and the messages follow which ever terminal I use. This is more than just inconvenient, I can't update my video driver because of it. :((( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256767 Title: USB devices work, but constant syslog errors unable to enumerate USB device on port 5 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
