[Bug 719091] Re: Can't upload to YouTube

2011-10-30 Thread Andy Finch
Later versions of Ubuntu have the required version of python-gdata (as
mentioned by IRIE). So this shouldn't be a problem any more on the
latest versions. For earlier versions of Ubutu, please use the PPA
linked by IRIE.

[Bug 877776] Re: ocelot: system not supported

2011-10-30 Thread Alessandro Menti
@Jamie: sorry - I forgot that the Birmingham route uses multiple route
files to let the player choose between different weather conditions.

@Paul Childs: you may want to have a look at the following pages (the ones I
used):
- https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Complete - Complete packaging guide
for Ubuntu (practicing those concepts helps a lot)
- https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToFix - Quick guide
- https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess - How to have patches checked
and uploaded
You may also ask folks in #ubuntu-devel (or #ubuntu-motu if you're dealing with
a package in the universe section).

As for the patch, I am creating the pbuilder environment (couldn't
complete the procedure yesterday). I'll post as soon as the test is
finished.

[Bug 878522] Re: update manager crashed at oneiric distribution upgrade

2011-10-30 Thread Ronald Teune
Thanks for clearing that up. :-)
Additional info: I think the download/install process took too long (several
tens of minutes, download at normally ~1 MiB/s), that's why I killed it. So
there might have been an error in the program. However, if nobody else has it,
it's probably not a bug.

[Bug 883752] Re: Software Centre is the most horrible, bloated and slow application I have ever used.

2011-10-30 Thread Gary Lasker
Hi Jamie, thanks for your report. Indeed, there is no question that
Software Center in Oneiric is much slower than that in Natty. Many of
these slowdowns were an unintended side effect after we moved to a brand
new UI. Don't worry, we are not settling for this, we simply need to
optimize things to make them fast again. I can assure you that speeding
up Software Center is a top priority of the Software Center team for the
Precise cycle. And as we make improvements, we will SRU them as much as
possible to Oneiric.

Please check bug 876210 for details as we do this work. I know that that
bug mentions startup time specifically, but the performance improvements
we will be making span everywhere in the app where things are plain TOO
slow.

Thanks again!
Gary

Verified, that memtest reports no errors. Ok. (System worked fine all

** Summary changed:

- Ubuntu 11.10 freezes during installation on Athlon XP
+ Ubuntu 11.10 freezes during installation on Athlon XP. Segfault in BusyBox.

** Package changed: apparmor (Ubuntu) = busybox (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

Oneiric freezes during installation (The Release notes did not say, that
my Athlon XP CPU was too old for Oneiric.)

  a) From Live CD: Install Ubuntu icon opens a new window, where I can choose
the language. But it won't let me continue, only quit. No matter, which
language I choose.
-When I try to start the installer again, the GUI disappears, the text
console appears, with the mouse cursor on top. Cannot switch terminals with
Ctrl-Alt-F1/2/3. Only Alt-SysReq-E/U/K/B possible.
+    When I try to start the installer again, the GUI disappears, the text
console appears, with the mouse cursor on top. Cannot switch terminals with
Ctrl-Alt-F1/2/3. Only Alt-SysReq-E/U/K/B possible.

  b) When I try to install from the Alternate CD:
- Everything works fine ... install basic system, enter username, configuring
apt, no automatic update, configuring language-pack-en-base, tasksel additional
software (none chosen) ...
+ Everything works fine ... install basic system, enter username, configuring
apt, no automatic update, configuring language-pack-en-base, tasksel additional
software (none chosen) ...
up to the point Configuring apparmor. Then system freezes and the
Shift-Lock and Scroll-Lock LEDs on the keyboard begin to flash. No
Ctrl-AltF1/2/..., no Alt-SysReq-E/B/... So, unfortunately I cannot tell you
anything about the logs.

From a previous try with the Alternate CD, where I had the syslog
console active during installation, I remember, that the final message
was panic. init terminated. and a BusyBox problem. I do not remember
the exact call stack output. But if it helps, I can try to re-produce
it. Maybe I can capture the log output via ttyS0.

- I am not sure, if the problem has really something to do with
- 'apparmor'. I believe, that I have seen the system freeze while
- installing other packages as well (tried alternate install several
- times).
-
Probably this is not relevant for the problem, just to let you know: I
  ran both installs via netboot.

  CPU: Athlon XP (0.13)

[Bug 881131] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 freezes during installation on Athlon XP. Segfault in BusyBox while setting up apparmor.

2011-10-30 Thread Franz Apeltauer
** Description changed:

- Oneiric freezes during installation (The Release notes did not say, that
- my Athlon XP CPU was too old for Oneiric.)
+ Oneiric freezes during installation.
+ (The Release notes did not say, that my Athlon XP CPU was too old for
Oneiric.)

  a) From Live CD: Install Ubuntu icon opens a new window, where I can choose
the language. But it won't let me continue, only quit. No matter, which
language I choose.
When I try to start the installer again, the GUI disappears, the text
console appears, with the mouse cursor on top. Cannot switch terminals with
Ctrl-Alt-F1/2/3. Only Alt-SysReq-E/U/K/B possible.

  b) When I try to install from the Alternate CD:
Everything works fine ... install basic system, enter username, configuring
apt, no automatic update, configuring language-pack-en-base, tasksel additional
software (none chosen) ...
- up to the point Configuring apparmor. Then system freezes and the
Shift-Lock and Scroll-Lock LEDs on the keyboard begin to flash. No
Ctrl-AltF1/2/..., no Alt-SysReq-E/B/... So, unfortunately I cannot tell you
anything about the logs.
-
- From a previous try with the Alternate CD, where I had the syslog
- console active during installation, I remember, that the final message
- was panic. init terminated. and a BusyBox problem. I do not remember
- the exact call stack output. But if it helps, I can try to re-produce
- it. Maybe I can capture the log output via ttyS0.
+ up to the point Configuring apparmor. Then system freezes and the
Shift-Lock and Scroll-Lock LEDs on the keyboard begin to flash. No
Ctrl-AltF1/2/..., no Alt-SysReq-E/B/...

Probably this is not relevant for the problem, just to let you know: I
  ran both installs via netboot.

  CPU: Athlon XP (0.13)
  Chipset: VIA KT400(A)/600

[Bug 880865] Re: asus eeepc 1101HA won't resume under linux 3.0.0.12; works under 2.6.38

2011-10-30 Thread Jan
I tested with the mainline kernel, both version 3.1-rc10 and v3.1 final.
Both still have the problem.

I additionally ran into some trouble in that the boot screen would freeze with
waiting for network configuration, and the system would not respond to any
keypresses anymore (but sshing into it still worked). If I changed to a
different virtual terminal before the freeze, X would start properly, but on
the first login attempt X crashes and shows some random characters on a
console, before a restarted X would come up. Logging in on this new X instance
works normally.
While the boot screen was frozen or while the first instance of X was running,
I was unable to change virtual terminals, either through (ctrl+)alt+fnX or
through the chvt command in an ssh session. chvt just hangs indefinitely. Once
the first X session has been replaced by the second, this all works normally.
These boot anomalities do not occur with ubuntu distribution kernels.

Since I'm also having other problems with the video card of this
machine, I also tried blacklisting the poulsbo and/or psb_gfx kernel
modules, and running X in vesa or fbdev mode (fbdev is the default,
there is no working driver that allows X to not use fbdev), but none of
these seemed to have any effect in any way on the suspend/resume bug.

[Bug 883996] [NEW] muon doesn't show section of Packages

2011-10-30 Thread kaputtnik
Public bug reported:

The Packages in Ubuntu are organized in a few components (main,
restricted, universe and multiverse). See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu

I could not find any info about of what component is a choosen package
in muon-packagemanager or muon softwareCenter.

e.g. aptitude shows me this info for the package kdenlive as section:
universe/graphics, the muon-packagemanger shows only
Category:graphics and Origin: Ubuntu, the muon Softwarecenter does
not show any info about that.

[Bug 883993] [NEW] offlineimap 6.3.3 deleting messages erroneously

2011-10-30 Thread Greg Grossmeier
Public bug reported:

I routinely discover that offlineimap decides to delete a large chunk of
my LISTS folder (quick large, as you can imagine (42,000 messages).
It deletes over a thousand messages, and each time this happens it
deletes more and more.

I researched/debugged, and this is the same issues as described here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=708898
and here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=629515

An update to 6.3.4 (what is in Precise) fixes the issue.

[Impact]
Data loss, potentially forever if not monitored. This happens about daily for
me.

[Development Fix]
upgrade to using libimap2 version 2.24

[Stable Fix]
What is needed:
Relevant upstream commit:
https://github.com/nicolas33/offlineimap/commit/520e39d35536172d03b22d012cf4d8828687f2ff

[Test Case]
1) Install offlineimap 6.3.3
2) sync a mailbox with a large number of messages (6,000)
3) continue to run offlineimap for a while (a day-ish?) until the server sends
a response that imaplib2 version 2.22 doesn't like
4) observe the deletion of messages.
5) upgrade to imaplib2 version 2.24
6) continue syncing
7) observe no loss of data due to server messages

[Regression Potential]
If cherry picking the commit, none predicted.

[Bug 879824] Re: Touch gestures result in pointer lock

2011-10-30 Thread Chase Douglas
I noticed the recording is corrupted at the end. The last touch sequence
is cut off. You probably killed it with ctrl-c instead of waiting for 10
seconds of inactivity for the recording to complete. We had a fix in
utouch-evemu trunk that prevented the corruption on ctrl-c, but hadn't
released it into ubuntu until now. If you install the precise version of
the package or version 1.0.7 from ppa:dx-touch/unstable it will handle
ctrl-c properly.

Please recreate the recording. Sorry for the run-around!

2011-10-30 Thread Tomek Bury
The segfault is an obvious bug to solve. Until then the wworkaround that
worked for me can be found here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11350062postcount=2

It boils down to the unpair-pair sequence:

sudo apt-get install libimobiledevice-utils
idevicepair unpair idevicepair pair

work around strategies. As currently the this only covers how to fix up

Hi,
This is still true in Oneiric.
For example if you want to see the description of LibreOffice in the french

This is not very convenient and it might be good to correct this for the LTS.

[Bug 825146] Re: [Oneiric] The BFB needs to be restored

2011-10-30 Thread ike
Great now i have to wait forever for the launcher to unhide so i can
click the dash button. also, in compiz settings, i can't set the top
left for instant reveal, it's broken or something. The new look is bad
as well. Functionality-wise, the dash button needs to be visible all
the time and the launcher needs to appear immediately with popping the
cursor to the top left. With the new way, you can't even slam the cursor
to the top left o close programs. the top left corner is not quite on
the close button. This alone ruins everything for me. I wish there was
just an option for the old button, it was a friend before, always there
to help, and now it's a total hassle. what a drag.

[Bug 874880] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Headphone-To-Speaker Switching for Intel HDA

2011-10-30 Thread Bolick
So after reading a bunch of different alsa-related solutions I tried to set my
audio codec explicitly.
For this I followed this manual:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

Basically I added to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf this line:
#
options snd-hda-intel model=targa-2ch-dig
#

At the moment it seems like my problem was solved. Without plugged-in
jack sound comes from built-in speakers, while with plugged jack sound
comes to external amplifier.

Here's a list with most of available model names:
===
http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt
===

I picked mine for Targa/MSI with 2-channel based on my netbook name.

So please try to find a proper model for your audio codec and hopefully
your problem will be solved.

But anyway I'm still disappointed why I didn't have this issue before
11.10 (10.04 - 11.04 worked perfectly regarding audio things).

Re: [Bug 882274] Re: Community engagement is broken

2011-10-30 Thread Mark Shuttleworth
On 30/10/11 19:11, Tal Liron wrote:
No, but I'm suggesting that this is a point where your patience has
run too thin and you refuse go the extra mile. I can't believe it
makes you feel good about Ubuntu to witness these riots, as you call
 them.

It doesn't feel good, no. What is missing is a mutual willingness to
agree to disagree and continue to work together.

Think about it. The decisions involved were taken, and it makes sense
for us to move on and fix other issues. We have done this on many other
issues on many other occasions, and sometimes I don't like the result
but we move on, and sometimes we expect others to do the same.

What we're told in this case, however, is that if you don't change this
we're leaving. OK fine. If only. Instead of leaving, what we get is
continued haranguing.

My point is that what's broken is not the engagement; we're engaged.
What's broken is the sense of entitlement on one side of this
conversation - do what I want, or I leave, and you're an idiot by the
way. As I said previously, in a collaborating community, that sort of
language is toxic. So I ask folk to stop doing it.

You have to admit that something isn't working quite right: on the one
hand, the Ayatana mailing list is open for everyone to read, but on
the other hand, there seems to be a lot of miscommunication and
misunderstanding of what goes on inside.

There is no mystery about what goes on inside. Bugs get filed and fixed,
ideas get discussed publicly and privately, decisions get made, work
gets done. Pretending there is some active conspiracy or hostility on
the inside creates a sense of hostility towards those who work full
time trying to solve the very problems you're interested in seeing
solutions to - in general, not in this specific case. I assume you want
to see a solution to the shortage of free software on the average
machine? The folks inside are completely devoted to that.

We are a project that has two different kinds of competence: volunteer
(undirected) and full time (directed). Most of the full time
contributors also participate in an undirected, volunteer way.

Now, those two kinds of competence are BOTH needed for our shared
success. But they are different. And the people who most need to
acknowledge the difference are the volunteers. Because you can volunteer
on many projects, but there is only one where you can help ship exactly
the same bits as the professionals - elsewhere, you either have a
project with very little consequence/adoption, or you get to work on the
playground, while the professionals take your work and ship it as and
when they like it in a separate product.

So the collaboration of community and company is what makes Ubuntu
special. That is QUITE different to a community project in which
Canonical employees happen to volunteer a bunch of time.

And harsh talk of inside vs outside undermines the value of the
contribution that full time team makes. We can solve many problems in
Ubuntu that have plagued pure-volunteer projects for years.

What frustrates me here is the sense of taking that for granted. Please
don't. If we don't work together, we will fail, and the world will lose
Ubuntu.

Perhaps you thrive on antagonism, or perhaps you have convinced
yourself that loud detractors are inevitable and harmless to any large
projects. But I know that if this were my project, and I were reading
some of the comments, I would feel a sense that something is broken.

Do you ever read LKML?

I believe this situation is fixable, or I would not have opened this
as a bug. I read your blog and have been following Ubuntu for years.
You have injected your persona into the project, so, like or not, you
are going to get some personal attacks. I would imagine you're used to
that by now. But, it's that particular role you fulfil that makes me
wonder if you're the right man to be managing or even opining about
the community process. In your engagement of the community, you are
 too easily tempted to confrontation.

The alternative to confrontation is to ignore you. Is that what you're
asking for?

Everything is going to go downhill once you start calling our requests
 selfish.

I haven't labelled all requests selfish. I've said it's selfish to
assume that an issue that you feel is an issue that has universal
acclaim and therefor must be addressed, when there is evidence to
suggest that is not the case. I'm not upset about having public bugs;
I'm just unimpressed by people who grandstand about a particular bug
when they could be helping to fix others with that energy.

I see the conflict of goals as analogous to that between QA and the
programmers: there's a reason you don't want the programmer doing the
usability testing. The programmers will, unknowingly, test only what
they know is working. Their imagination is constrained by the
challenges of their work. Ubuntu is in some ways your personal
project: you are predisposed to get overly defensive and even testy
 when

gedit is a gtk graphic application gksu/gksudo is the proper command,

The 'Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: pixmap,'

The workaround of:

does work. However, a user shouldn't need to do that to run '$ gksudo
gedit'.

[Bug 884001] [NEW] apt expects [Y/n] instead of [J/n] in german

2011-10-30 Thread Johannes Albrecht
Public bug reported:

Lucid 11.04
apt 0.8.13.2ubuntu4.2

This bug appears during 'apt-get upgrade' and 'apt-get install'.
It affects the german translation.

Every time apt asks
Möchten Sie fortfahren [J/n]?(engl: Do you want to
continue [Y/n]?)
it expects a Y for Yes instead of a J for Ja.

Upgrades and installs become impossible until one knows the english
letter/key.

[Bug 667071] Re: Folders opened by wrong application

2011-10-30 Thread Garry Leach
Hi,

This may be a new bug, or just a nuisance...

I was a subscriber to the original bug; the workaround was OK.

I upgraded to 11.04, earlier this year.

Recently, something seems to have changed:

when I click on a photo (.jpg), I expect it to open with image viewer,
as it has always done (I have been using Ubuntu since 2005).

However, it now opens with movie player, showing a blank window, as the
file is not a movie.

I did have some short .avi videos mixed in with the set of photos, so I
suspect that one of these has triggered the open-with movie player.

However, now that there is no way to change the default application, I
seem to be stuck with having to individually use the open-with feature
whenever I want to look at photos.

Any suggestions?

Regards, Garry.

[Bug 877776] Re: ocelot: system not supported

2011-10-30 Thread Alessandro Menti
I have set up a PPA for personal testing and uploaded the package there.
The build log and the package are available at https://launchpad.net
/~alessandro-menti/+archive/patch-testing/+build/2890348 for testing.

Please note that I will remove the package from the PPA as soon as this
bug is closed; note also that I have not given the new package a ppa
version number.

I have personally tested the package - the game seems to work (I have
done a very quick ride in Arcade mode) and the missing dependency has
been brought in.

@Paul Sladen: if everything is OK, feel free to sponsor the patch as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Sponsorship/SponsorsQueue, section Note
for Sponsors. Thanks!

Re: [Bug 882274] Re: Community engagement is broken

On 29/10/11 15:40, Marco Biscaro wrote:
I can't! :) I can't understand the costs of adding an option in these
cases. Could you (or someone else) tell me how the users that don't
use this feature would be affected?
Say the option is expressed in a dialog box. That dialog box is now
longer and more complicated than it needs to be. When a dialog box is
more complicated, it feels harder to use, for everyone.

So, putting that option in a visible UI makes the system feel harder for
everyone. You know the feeling - you just want to get something simple
done and you have to look through lots of complicated dialog boxes. Now,
if you're having fun exploring all the options in the system, that's not
work, that's fun. But for most people, they are happiest if the system
just works; having to go find an option to change its behaviour is bad
for them, and having lots of options is worse.

 That's the cost to end-users.

So, why not make it an invisible option, say a dconf key that could be
turned on with a command line tool or power user config tool?

The cost there is in the codebase and in the design.

Say the option allows for both vertical and horizontal layout. Then we
need to think about all the behaviours and mechanics both horizontally
and vertically. And if it's horizontal, we have to think about
right-to-left languages as well, like Arabic. So the number of codepaths
just got much bigger, the number of quality assurance tests just got
bigger. We only have time for a limited amount of testing in any given
cycle, so that option means we won't get something else.

 All these costs add up.

 Mark

Thanks for these clarifications. It would be much more simple if they
were posted in the original bug report, without the need of such
discussion. I'll quote this explanation in the original bug report.

Probably not. It's not that severe of a bug, so it doesn't fit the

And that's if we knew which of the changes between then and now actually
fixed the issue.

[Bug 861061] Re: compiz 3d performance regression

2011-10-30 Thread Scott Deagan
I think I have found a solution to this. On my Sony Vaio VPCF11S1E
running an nVidia 330M, I did this:

1. Start CompizConfig Settings Manager.
2. Type in workaround in the filter text box.
3. Tick Fix screen updates in XGL with fglrx.
4. Tick Force synchronization between X and GLX.

I have no idea what these do, but it seems to have solved jerky/laggy
window movement issue for me in 11.10.

[Bug 883720] Re: oneiric fresh install to raid1 from alt amd64 CD - grub-install /dev/sda failed

2011-10-30 Thread Andrew Cranwell
Most of the Intel Sandy Bridge platforms use EFI; generally they will
start in BIOS emulation mode unless told otherwise. If you think your
platform might support EFI, try manually selecting the boot device once
the CD is inserted; there should be a (uefi) optical drive option or
similar if your platform supports it.

This is probably the 4th bug report I've seen about GRUB not installing
to RAID, so I'm trying to eliminate the number of variables involved.

[Bug 667071] Re: Folders opened by wrong application

2011-10-30 Thread Garry Leach
Hi,

I just did a little more testing. It seems to remember the last used
application for .jpg .avi, but in an inconsistent way.

If try to open a .jpg, it opens with movie player.

If I change it to open with image viewer, it opens OK, but if I close
that window, then select another .jpg, it opens with movie player.

If I try to open a .avi, it fails to open (with an error message), but
has image viewer set as the default.

Regards, Garry.

[Bug 884005] [NEW] After upgrading to Oneiric, Unity leaves focus on previous viewport when switching viewports via the Compiz Expo plugin

2011-10-30 Thread Doug Morse
Public bug reported:

Hi,

The problem:

I have Expo view mapped to my middle mouse button. Ever since upgrading
from Natty to Oneric, whenever I switch viewports by pressing the middle
button to invoke Expo view, clicking on a different viewport, and then
pressing the middle button again to exit Expo view, the mouse focus is
remains on the most recently focused window in the previous viewport.

Consequences of the problem:

This is terribly frustrating in that, because I use the keyboard heavily
and much more than the mouse, I'm constantly switching viewports (with
the mouse) and then start typing again, only to have my keyboard input
going to not only the wrong application, but the wrong viewport, where I
cannot even see it. As you can imagine, I have occasionally had some
pretty undesirable results due to my keyboard input being directed to
the wrong window (e.g., intending to copy and paste between windows
residing in different viewports and having my keystrokes, after
switching viewports, replacing the source of the copy operation because
the mouse focus was on the wrong window/viewport).

Expected behavior:

When switching viewports, no matter the method, the window at the top of
the Z-order for that viewport should get the mouse focus, just as it did
in Natty, 10.x, and 9.x.

As always, thanks for all you do!

Cheers,
Doug

Re: [Bug 881022] Re: SD card not detected

2011-10-30 Thread William Singiser
Hi Joseph,

Thanks for such a quick response. Sorry I couldn't get back to you
sooner. I'm going to have to do more studying of Ubuntu before I work with
upstream kernels and tags. I'm not exactly comfortable with selecting
and installing a mainstream kernel. I'm a little worried about what it
might do to my current Operating System. As for tags I'm not familiar
with them. I don't know what they are or where they are.

But I thank you again for your quick response. Let me study up some more
before getting back to you.

Thanks again,

William

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test
the latest release candidate kernel (Not a kernel in the daily
directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the
'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the
others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to
the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
 upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

 Thanks in advance.

Still not solved in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot. Creating url shortcuts
in desktop by drag and drop from browser should be a basic feature! I'm
sorry but I really find hard to believe that after all these years this
issue isn't solved yet and nobody cares about it...

[Bug 884011] [NEW] zenity doesn't show tray/appindicator icon

2011-10-30 Thread Peter-Alexander
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10
zenity 3.2.0-0ubuntu1

In a script I use following line:
exec 3 (zenity --notification --window-icon=icon.svg --listen --text=some
text)
so I can change the tray icon based on what the script does.

What I expect to happen:
zenity --notification should show an icon in the tray or appindicator.

What happens instead:
A zenity --warning style dialog window pops up.

[Bug 884012] [NEW] 11.10 unity/desktop frozen

2011-10-30 Thread jim brown

unity panel showing.
Its happened twice this evening not sure what caused it suspect it was super+w

Couldn't restart desktop using service gdm (kept getting back to frozen desktop
as I was still logged in after trying stop/restart etc) had to resort to
kill -9 -1 to get back to a workable session

not sure if this bug is already reported; There were a few unity crash

[Bug 716458] Re: notify-osd in invisible area of dual screen setup

2011-10-30 Thread Marius Gedminas
Some playing around with gdb tells me that in src/defaults.c, in
defaults_get_top_corner(), the code used under Unity is the no panel
detetected; using workarea fallback branch.

In my configuration (1280x1024 on the left, 1024x800 on the right, with
bottoms aligned) the workarea rect is {x = 0, y = 24, width = 2560,
height = 1000}, which results in the attached screenshot (for very long
notifications).

[Bug 884016] [NEW] Upgrade JabRef to Stable/Released Version

2011-10-30 Thread Oernie
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) includes the first beta version of JabRef
2.7. I suggest to provide an update to the stable/released version
JabRef 2.7, because some bugs have been fixed in the second beta version
(2.7. beta 2) and in the .stable/released version (7.7). Thanks!

** Affects: jabref (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 882579] Re: Some Commands return: Timed out during operation: cannot acquire state change lock

2011-10-30 Thread nutznboltz
Probably related thread: kvm linux guest hanging for minutes at a time
http://www.spinics.net/lists/kvm/msg59479.html

Notable in that thread:

a post about using -F with trace-cmd too:
http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Tracing
http://www.spinics.net/lists/kvm/msg59716.html

a post which states: When booting with clocksouce=hpet, the system does not
hang.
http://www.spinics.net/lists/kvm/msg59837.html

a post which states: Using the wrong clock easily causes hangs. The system
schedules a wakeup in 3 ms, wrong clock causes it to wakeup in 3 years, you get
a hang for (3 years - 3 ms).

[Bug 84899] Re: SSH with GSSAPIAuthentication option on SSH servers are very slow

2011-10-30 Thread Björn Torkelsson
We, and a lot of other enterprise sites are using Kerberos, so we would
like it to be on by default.

[Bug 884019] [NEW] Transfer progress is wrong

2011-10-30 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

When I move files to an external device the progress bar is almost
useless.

Example:
1) I begin to move two files (1 GB each) to an SD card.
2) Progress bar is moving at over 100 MB/s until it reaches 1 GB.
3) It's 1 GB for some time before it moves quickly to 2 GB and remains there
for some time before the transfer is complete.

The problem is, as I understand it, the file is sent to a cache and that
it is the action shown. This is quite wrong as the progress bar is there
to provide information about how much time/data there is left until the
action is complete.

I am running an updated version of 11.10.
