[Bug 915900] [NEW] Lucid update to 2.6.32.54 stable release

2012-01-13 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from Linus' tree or in a minimally
backported form of that patch. The 2.6.32.54 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches are in the 2.6.32.54 stable release:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Lucid)
 Importance: Undecided

** Tags: kernel-stable-tracking-bug

[Bug 915569] Re: Latest version is much slower than older ones

2012-01-13 Thread Colin Watson
The slowdown appears to be in writing out the rdepends/ output tree. As
a workaround, I recommend that you use the --no-rdepends option unless
you actually use that output; it will speed up both old and new versions
of germinate.

** Changed in: germinate (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided = High

** Changed in: germinate (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Triaged

** Summary changed:

- Latest version is much slower than older ones

[Bug 915891] Re: MacBook Pro 7,1 brightness controls don't work

2012-01-13 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 915895] [NEW] Mozvoikko disabled by default for users

2012-01-13 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

There is an issue that with the new Firefox policy of disabling 3rd
party extensions by default, mozvoikko is now disabled by default for
every user even though it's automatically installed as part of Ubuntu
installation.

There is also no pop-up wants to install this extension in the case of
new installations, so the user simply sees that spell-checking does not
work in Firefox/Thunderbird, unless he manually realizes to go to the
Extensions dialog and enable Voikko extension.

Language packs and ubufox extension are currently enabled by default
because they are installed in a different way.

[Bug 915899] [NEW] Gcolor2 icon is not changeable by icon themes

2012-01-13 Thread Jakub Jankiewicz
Public bug reported:

Gcolor2 icon in menu is not changeable by icon themes.

in /usr/share/applications/gcolor2.desktop

there is:

Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/gcolor2/gcolor2.xpm

if you put this in gcolor2.desktop

Icon=gcolor2

and create symlink to gcolor2.xpm file in pixmaps folder

ln -s gcolor2/gcolor2.xpm /usr/share/pixmaps/gcolor2.xpm

it will fix the issue with menu icon

as for application icon

/usr/share/pixmaps/gcolor2/icon.png should be renamed to
gcolor2-icon.png and put into /usr/share/pixmaps/ folder so it can be
changeable by themes.

[Bug 766242] Re: lp:ubuntu/cloud-init is not buildable by bzr-builder

2012-01-13 Thread Scott Moser
generally, i think that bzr-builder should be better, and allow for no
.pc directory but applied patches.

However, cloud-init's ubuntu trunk is now an upstream snapshot, so:
$ cat  cloud-init.recipe EOF
# bzr-builder format 0.4 deb-version {debupstream}-0ubuntu0+{revno}
lp:ubuntu/cloud-init
EOF
$ bzr dailydeb cloud-init.recipe working-dir

That worked for me today on precise, with, building '0.6.3~bzr502-0ubuntu1'
bzr-builder 0.7.2-0ubuntu1

using 'format 0.3' works also (so probably older bzr-builders would
work).

[Bug 915906] [NEW] Vino does not work with compositing using ATI open source driver

2012-01-13 Thread Julien Olivier
Public bug reported:

Vino, the built in VNC server in Ubuntu, has had a problem for many
releases where it won't update the display when connected remotely if
compositing is enabled. This can be easily reproduced using Unity and
gnome-shell.

Apparently, bug #772873 only takes care of the same bug with the fglrx
driver, so this bug is there to take care of the issue with ATI's open
source driver.

[Bug 842194] Re: greeter doesn't start failed to load session file

2012-01-13 Thread Matt C
Use case:
Installing Ubuntu onto a Samsung Large screen TV with embedded PC, 2.5GB flash
disk only (not big enough for full Ubuntu 11.10).

Installed from ubuntu minimal, installed ubuntu-standard and ubuntu-
desktop with --no-install-recommends (due to lack of disk space on this
device).

lightdm doesn't start, vt.handoff=7 splash cause the user to experience
a blank screen with 'no signal' on boot.

Log shows:
DEBUG: Failed to load session file
/usr/share/xgreeters/lightdm-gtk-greeter.desktop: No such file or directory;
   DEBUG: Failed to start greeter

Had to install unity-greeter package manually. Then it all works.

Is this a recommended package that should be a required package?

Any chance to have this package in Ubuntu 11.10 too??

- Clicking on a dash category header should not give it keyboard focus
  (LP: #905921)

- Mouse wheel doesn't works if the mouse pointer is inside dash
 scrollbar.
  (LP: #19)
  * debian/rules, debian/control:
- add nuxabiversion capability as upstream is breaking a lot the ABI
wasn't bumping the soname. Create a virtual package similar to what
we already do in compiz to ensure we dep on the right version.
Remove the makeshlibs override then as not needed anymore.
- bump to nux 2.0 with new libnux-2.0-0, libnux-2.0-common,
 libnux-2.0-dev
packages. Make the necessary changes in .install files as well
- don't ship anymore the -doc package.
  * debian/nux-tools.install:
- move the apport file there instead of the -common package to enable
  co-instability

[Bug 876198] Re: When switching workspaces with rotate/cube previous Ws contents are momentarily displayed

2012-01-13 Thread Maximinus
A fix has actually been developed, and after what looks like a pretty
thorough testing phase, it's been merged - I imagine the holiday period
slowed things down a little (though this would ideally have all been
sorted before the holidays) - but it was a complicated issue to fix,
with nearly 2000 lines changed over 11 files, so I can understand time
being taken to make sure it's a solid fix that doesn't break anything
else.

[Bug 899899] Re: Pulseaudio only to loud or mute on inspiron 9400

2012-01-13 Thread David Henningsson
Hi Sandra and thanks for trying out the new version of Ubuntu!

I'm trying to understand whether this is a codec error or PulseAudio
error, so could you clarify which ones (in alsamixer) of PCM, Master
and LFE that actually affects the various outputs (headphones,
speakers)? Or are one/some of them irrelevant (the volume does not
change when you move them)?

[Bug 294666] Re: PulseAudio causes sound latency in 8.10

2012-01-13 Thread Jordy van Heeswijk
I've been trying to use the fix from comment #34 in 11.10 (Unity), this
far without success.

I copied firefox.desktop from /usr/share/applications to
~/.local/share/spplications and modified it there so that it executes
/usr/local/bin/firefox

For the rest I followed the steps from comment #34.

However, when I click the Firefox button in the Launcher (or whatever
that taskbar is called in Unity), nothing happens.

When I run the command 'firefox' in a terminal, I see why: I get the message
'permission denied'.
When I run 'sudo firefox' all seems to go well, but I'm not too comfortable
running the browser with administrator privileges.

What is the best way to apply this workaround in Unity?

[Bug 914575] Re: sound applet does not display all alsa hw sound

2012-01-13 Thread David Henningsson
From the pulseaudio log:

( 0.127| 0.000) D: [pulseaudio] module-udev-detect.c:
/devices/pci:00/:00:14.2/sound/card1 is busy: yes
( 0.127| 0.000) I: [pulseaudio] module-udev-detect.c: Found 2 cards.

This means that something else is using the sound card, so PulseAudio
can't access it. That's why it does not show up. If you don't know what
that could be, the output of sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* might help you
figure out what it is.

[Bug 915926] [NEW] Oneiric update to 3.0.17 stable release

2012-01-13 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from Linus' tree or in a minimally
backported form of that patch. The 3.0.17 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches are in the 3.0.17 stable release:

Linux 3.0.17
xfs: fix acl count validation in xfs_acl_from_disk()

feature to fix an oops
