[Bug 916200] Re: missing kernel module ipmi_si module

2012-01-18 Thread Stefan Bader
Weirdly seems to skip some probing state.

@Asif, could you please do the following: boot back into the -36 kernel version
(which had ipmi working). Not sure whether it can simply be done via iKVM but
otherwise you could modify the set default=0 line in /boot/grub/grub.cfg to
=2 and reboot.
Then verify ipmi is up and post the dmesg from that boot. Thanks.

[Bug 918170] [NEW] Update error WARNING: Clamd was NOT notified: Can't connect to clamd through /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl

2012-01-18 Thread Rebecca Palmer
Public bug reported:

The following error messages appeared during an update.

The error does not repeat if freshclam is run again, but this may be
because there is no update to do the second time; as freshclam usually
runs from a script so I don't see its output, I don't know if it has
happened before.

[Bug 918170] Re: Update error WARNING: Clamd was NOT notified: Can't connect to clamd through /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl

2012-01-18 Thread Imre Gergely
Hi

Is clamav daemon running? If not, that could be the cause of the
_warning_. It's not necessarily a bug, it just says that it can't notify
clamav-daemon (so that it knows the database got updated). Do you even
use clamav daemon?

You can check if clamav-daemon package is installed. If it's not, that
warning message is normal (IMO).

fyi, it looks like this could occur if a misbehaving bmc's status

Fixed bug 912701

Add an check to the list_instances method so that the domains whose ID
is 0 are not listed, since this is reserved in libvirt for hypervisors.

2012-01-18 Thread Rebecca Palmer
You are correct: clamav-daemon isn't installed.

The wording is rather strong for something that is normal (it may be
left over from when clamav-daemon used to be installed with clamav by
default, as in Debian 3.1; not sure if this was ever the case in
Ubuntu), but since freshclam is normally run in the background from a
script, the user isn't likely to see it.

[Bug 918327] Re: lxc-start exits success on failure when non-root

2012-01-18 Thread Scott Moser
Another (likely related) issue, after using sudo to start the container,
observe:

$ lxc-ls
lv1
$ sudo lxc-start -n lv1 -d
$ lxc-ls
lv1
/usr/bin/lxc-ls: line 35: cd: /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuset///lxc: Permission denied
ls: cannot access lv1: No such file or directory
$ sudo lxc-ls
lv1
lv1
$ sudo lxc-list
RUNNING
  lv1

STOPPED

So, as it is now after starting the container 'sudo lxxc-ls' shows 2
containers, but 'lxc-ls' (without sudo) shows annoying messages.

 Title:
  usbhid-ups regression (APC BE525-RS)

ok, I got it!
first, both of your issues are related.
we reverted in 2.6.1 a change on how we get data from the UPS.
we were previously requesting a very large size, while we now only ask
for the data actual size.

your device is reporting extra garbage data (buggy firmware) when
requesting (Feature report) battery.charge
(UPS.PowerSummary.RemainingCapacity), while the notified version
(Input report, sent by the device upon changes, like SNMP traps) is
good.

this cause, at libusb level, an EOVERFLOW with 2.6.1+, which is logged
every 30 sec. (polling freq), and cause this data to not be processed.

now, Input report data should take over, and feed battery.charge!
I'd be interested in seeing a debug output of a faulty version
(2.6.1+), that includes a power failure.

the bad news: ATM, I've no solution that can be applied upstream and
distributed.
the good news: well, you already know: keep running 2.6.0 for the time being.

cheers,
Arnaud

[Bug 869684] Re: 530 login incorrect error after upgrade to Oneiric

2012-01-18 Thread Steven Brown
Just wanted to report back that I was able to solve my issue by:

apt-get remove vsftpd
rm /etc/pam.d/vsftpd (figuring it will recreate it)
apt-get install vsftpd

Now it works fine.

The /etc/pam.d/vsftpd was NOT recreated.

[Bug 899159] Re: [snb-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b009004

2012-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
@James, if there is no file /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
present when your system is frozen, then you likely don't have a GPU
lockup bug. Remember, you need to ssh into the box while it's frozen to
collect the file (if apport doesn't automatically collect it for you,
which it *should* be doing.)

[Bug 916763] Re: [gm45] Ubuntu sometimes stutters in that the mouse will briefly stop moving, sometimes the screen will lock up completely.

2012-01-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Sounds vaguely similar to bug #914216, except that's different graphics
hardware. Still, might be worth checking if you also have a vt-d option
in BIOS and see if disabling it helps.

But first I'd like to see your `ps aux` output. This could just be a
simple process resource issue.

** Summary changed:

- Ubuntu sometimes stutters in that the mouse will briefly stop moving,
sometimes the screen will lock up completely.
+ [gm45] Ubuntu sometimes stutters in that the mouse will briefly stop moving,
sometimes the screen will lock up completely.

[Bug 870874] Re: LDAP user with automounted nfs homedir cannot login

2012-01-18 Thread Stephan Schöffel
I am facing the same problem now at our computer-labs at university.
Mounted NFS homedirs and LDAP authentication. A co-worker tried a
different approach using SLIM as login manager. This let's LDAP users
login and use unity properly. Unfortunately, it screws up local
accounts. Additionally, the shutdown/reboot widget does not work
anymore. Users can only logout with these, but not stop/reboot the
machine. One more thing: if the screen becomes locked, users cannot
unlock it via LDAP.

[Bug 917922] Re: after hibernation, sometimes system fails to restore the old state (before hiberanation

2012-01-18 Thread Winfried PLappert
A few comments:
1.) I checked a few more /var/log/syslog* and /var/log/kern.log* files. It is
always process name plasma-desktop which gets hits.
2.) I never had this problem as long as I ran Ubuntu - but I decided to go away
from Ubuntu because of the Unity desktop. I could not handle this new desktop
design.
3.) Somestimes the system bombs out after loading 100% of the saved pages from
the swap file. It immediately falls back in to the BIOS and the reboots
normally.
