Hm now got this bug on a 12.04. Why is CIFS saying it doesn't find a username, when in fact it doesn't find needed binaries? Samba server is not included in a usual install of Ubuntu.
In Nautilus :
1st time you check share this folder ('partager ce dossier' in french in the
screen copy included) in the folder properties of the folder you want to share
on your network (right click on the folder), Ubuntu ask to install samba
server...
Next, you will have to reboot, go back to this folder properties window ; you
are now able to check share this folder. At this time, Ubuntu tell you that
it must change the permissions of this folder to allow other computer to read
or write in this folder. You can see that in the 2nd tab of the same window
(screen copy added).
My network had different computers mainly connected wireless. A box is
connected to Internet and play the DHCP server.
I don't understand well the hostname command... On the server workstation
hostname give the right name.
On the client workstation, I used host 'nameofthe server' and I get the right
IP adress of the server

End of my answer : About : I was able to configure shares using system-config-samba - that worked fine (and I think is probably the correct way todo it). It's not what is described in the french documentation of the new releases of Ubuntu http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/samba and it's surprising ! Ubuntu wants to be easy. It ask you different things to share a folder and you should do things that it doesn't ask... And system-config-samba looks to write in smb.conf file while ckecking the share tab of the folder properties write in var/lib/samba/usershares. It looks like 2 different ways ? I'm also seeing this in Xubuntu 12.04 x64. I've tried running via a PuTTY (ssh) connection and an X2go (X11) connection. I believe the scores file issue is meant to be fixed by adding the user to the 'games' group. @ Michael. That would have been just luck as this bug is still not picked up actively. I think newer kernels solve the problem for some of us, just because some parts of the kernel are probably re-written, but that doesn't imply that these modifications were made for this specific bug. I've sent an email directly to Mark Shuttleworth, well at least at his secretary: that's as direct as I know how to contact him. No one else seems to bother. Does any body know developer at Canonical who we might contact with this problem? Who is in charge of bugs at Canonical? I still want to use Ubuntu and not switch to another distro. When running rkhunter, it is not possible to skip /dev/.initramfs. The
error message is:

When I add this to ALLOWHIDDENDIRS, it has no effect. When I add this to
ALLOWHIDDENFILES, I get an error message saying this is not a file. In
fact, it is a symlink to a directory:

Hi, I'm currently running 12.04 LTS. I started with removing the following packages: liblzo2-2 uswsusp I downloaded the mainline kernel packages from here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-precise/ Installed the following three packages: linux-headers-3.4.0-030400_3.4.0-030400.201205210521_all.deb linux-headers-3.4.0-030400-generic_3.4.0-030400.201205210521_amd64.deb linux-image-3.4.0-030400-generic_3.4.0-030400.201205210521_amd64.deb Unfortunately this kernel is very unstable at the moment on my laptop. It is not even enable to shutdown properly. When I click on hibernate in the Unity shutdown menu, it just locks the screen but does nothing else. --- I also tried hibernation with the current kernel (linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic, x86_64) with uswsusp uninstalled. Situation is the same. It sometimes resumes, but sometimes recovery hangs with a blinking underscore in the top left corner. Strange is that I can reproduce this om my wife's laptop which is a Dell Inspiron N5040: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201104-7783/ I experience the same, recovery hangs with a blinking underscore in the top left corner.
