[Bug 1052928] [NEW] launchpad bug report package option not respected

2012-09-19 Thread Maxxer
Public bug reported:

1. search for a bug report and pick one i.e. from the samba ubuntu package
2. press the Report new bug link
3. you're asked for the summary, enter some information and click No I need to
report a new bug
4. change the package name from the proposed samba (or whatever) to another
value, either manually or by using the Choose... popup
5. complete the bugreport and press Submit

result: bug is assigned to package samba (or whatever was proposed in
the package field).

relative bug: Press Choose, search for launchpad, on page 3 select
launchpad, submit the bug. Result:
launchpad does not exist in Ubuntu. Please choose a different package. If
you're unsure, please select I don't know
expected: if it's not a package, why am I allowed to choose it?

[Bug 1052932] [NEW] [FFE] merge upstream v1.2.0

2012-09-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

The quantal archive currently has qemu-kvm 1.1-rc1 merged from Debian.
This has a severe bug (1040033) which is fixed in 1.2. In addition, 1.2
is a stable branch, which will make future maintenance easier. It would
be great if we could have 1.2 in the archive.

[Bug 1052932] Re: [FFE] merge upstream v1.2.0

2012-09-19 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I am currently using 1.2 from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
virt/+archive/virt-daily-upstream/+packages and it fixes bug #1040033
for me. I will continue to test it and report back any issues if I find
them. Assuming testing shows it is ok, the security team would like to
see 1.2 in the archive because as Serge said, 1.2 is a stable release
and what we have in the archive now is not. It is my understanding there
have been a lot of commits since 1.1rc and it is important for security
maintenance of the package that we be on a stable release of qemu-kvm.

[Bug 1049177] Re: isc-dhcp-server apparmor profile should have include .d

2012-09-19 Thread Stéphane Graber
** Description changed:

  /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.dhcpd currently has:
- # Eucalyptus
- /{,var/}run/eucalyptus/net/ r,
- /{,var/}run/eucalyptus/net/** r,
- /{,var/}run/eucalyptus/net/*.pid lrw,
- /{,var/}run/eucalyptus/net/*.leases* lrw,
- /{,var/}run/eucalyptus/net/*.trace lrw,
+   # Eucalyptus

+   /{,var/}run/eucalyptus/net/*.pid lrw,
+   /{,var/}run/eucalyptus/net/*.leases* lrw,
+   /{,var/}run/eucalyptus/net/*.trace lrw,

- and
- #include local/usr.sbin.dhcpd
+ and
+ #include local/usr.sbin.dhcpd

- The MAAS project is looking to use isc-dhcp-server almost exactly like
- eucalyptus did, and as a result would need some changes to this profile.
- In speaking with jdstrand [1], he suggested that #include isc-
- dhcpd.d was the preferred way to enable this.
+ [rationale]
+ The MAAS project is looking to use isc-dhcp-server almost exactly like
eucalyptus did, and as a result would need some changes to this profile. In
speaking with jdstrand [1], he suggested that #include isc-dhcpd.d was the
preferred way to enable this.

+ [test case]
+ Just make sure the apparmor profile gets updated and doesn't fail to load.
Proper testing will have to be done once the mass change lands.
+
+ [regression potential]
+ Was tested on quantal and it's already widely used apparmor syntax, so the
worst I can think of is that the line just won't work and won't include the
profile once it lands in maas.

2012-09-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

None of the BROKER_* settings are defined in celeryconfig; that means
that the 'guest' account is used by MAAS to send messages through
RabbitMQ. That might have been OK while everything was local but now
that we will want the cluster controllers to connect remotely we need to
change that.

That might still be OK for a dev instance but I suggest we make that
more explicit by setting the right values in the config file
(BROKER_PASSWORD='guest', etc).

Once the fix is landed upstream, the packaging will need to be changed
to create a RabbitMQ user and configure
/etc/maas/maas_local_settings.py.

** Affects: maas (Ubuntu)

 Status: Triaged

[Bug 1052664] Re: 12.10 cloud-init injects comment into /etc/hostname

2012-09-19 Thread Scott Moser
This *should* be ok, as per 'man hostname':
   -F, --file filename
Read the host name from the specified file. Comments (lines
starting with a `#') are ignored.

** Summary changed:

- 12.10 cloud-init injects comment into /etc/HOSTNAME
+ 12.10 cloud-init injects comment into /etc/hostname

** Description changed:

On the desktop builds, the default desktop environment does not respond
favorably to having a comment in /etc/hostname -- it inserts # Created
by cloud-init\n in the bash line.

- ubuntu@# cat /etc/hostname
+ ubuntu@# cat /etc/hostname
  # Created by cloud-init
-

  ubuntu@# Created by cloud-init

[Bug 1052973] [NEW] align lxc-debian and lxc-ubuntu options

2012-09-19 Thread Enrique

It would be desirable to align the options of lxc-debian and lxc-ubuntu

[Bug 1052972] [NEW] lxc-debian cannot create a testing release container

2012-09-19 Thread Enrique
Public bug reported:

I have tried to create a debian container which uses the testing release with
the following command:

SUITE=testing lxc-create -t debian -n debian-testing-amd64

However it fails at some point with this messages:

E: Couldn't find these debs: dhcp3-client
Failed to download the rootfs, aborting.
Failed to download 'debian base'
failed to install debian
failed to execute template 'debian'

If I use stable with SUITE=stable then it works fine.

I am using lxc version 0.7.5-3ubuntu62 in Ubuntu 12.04

[Bug 1052664] Re: 12.10 cloud-init injects comment into /etc/hostname

2012-09-19 Thread Scott Moser
and, in fact, that *is* ok:
$ cat /etc/hostname; echo ; echo ==
# Created by cloud-init
domU-12-31-39-02-10-6D
==

$ sudo hostname --file /etc/hostname; echo $?; echo hostname=$(hostname);
echo ===

$ sudo hostname -b -F /etc/hostname; echo $?; echo hostname=$(hostname); echo

===
$ sudo hostname -F /etc/hostname; echo $?; echo hostname=$(hostname); echo ===
0
hostname=domU-12-31-39-02-10-6D
===

So something else must be reading that and setting the hostname.

cloud-init log shows:

/var/lib/cloud/instances/i-7289b008/sem/config-set_hostname - wb: [420] 19 bytes

so it sure looks like *it* is calling hostname corectly.

2012-09-19 Thread gcc
Then how is it possible that it failed for me? Did you use i386 or
x86_64? I was using i386, I found some reports that the build works on
x86_64 but fails with this error on i386.

I built 3.6.6 from Debian and that worked fine on this machine (running
precise).

[Bug 1052985] [NEW] No reference to configuration file in autofs manual

2012-09-19 Thread A. Scheuer
Public bug reported:

The autofs script can be configured by a file (/etc/default/autofs in my
distribution), but the autofs manual does not contain any reference to
this file. In my distribution, the reference can be found in the
auto.master manual, but it is not the case anymore in the manual given
by autofs.org. I did not looked to this manual at first, as I am quite
sure my auto.master file is correct, I just needed to configure the

[Bug 1050492] Re: MAAS uses the 'guest' account to communicate with RabbitMQ

2012-09-19 Thread Raphaël Badin
The packaging needs to be fixed only when we will have a separate
package for the cluster controller. If we land the branch
lp:~rvb/maas/packaging.set-rabbitmq-creds now, it will break the
communication between the master cluster controller and the region
controller since the master cluster controller currently rely on the
fact that the 'guest' RabbitMQ account is used.

[Bug 1052989] [NEW] Enlistment fails

2012-09-19 Thread Robie Basak
Public bug reported:

When I run sudo maas-enlist --serverurl http://maas-server-
ip:5240/api/1.0/nodes/, the maas-enlist commands exits with a zero
status but doesn't actually enlist.

On the server, I see the log entry [19/Sep/2012 15:06:24] POST /http
://maas-server-ip:5240/api/1.0/nodes/ HTTP/1.1 302 0, which looks
wrong. There is nothing after this which I'd expect for a 302 response.
But normally an entry looks like POST: [19/Sep/2012 15:06:13] POST
/api/1.0/nodegroups/master/ HTTP/1.1 200 15, so it looks like maas-
enlist is making an invalid request.

been replaced in testing, and it is being specifically added to the list
of packages for debootstrap to install.

[Bug 1052815] Re: Perl warnings break plugins

2012-09-19 Thread Tim Bishop
Sorry, what an obvious thing to forget!

munin-common 1.4.6-3ubuntu3.1
munin-node 1.4.6-3ubuntu3.1

This is on Ubuntu 12.04.1 (precise).

I figured they'd probably have been fixed upstream, but it'd be good to
see the fix make its way in to the Ubuntu package.

[Bug 1052664] Re: hostname intermittently contains comment from cloud-init

2012-09-19 Thread Scott Moser
This seems racey. Ben and I both report having sen this on server build of
20120919, but only intermittently.
To add to the oddness, on 20120919 desktop (where it seems to reproduce more
frequently), I moved /bin/hostname to /bin/hostname.real, then:
$ cat /bin/hostname
#!/bin/sh

if [ $# -ne 0 ]; then
   {
   echo == pid=$$ ppid=$PPID JOB=$UPSTART_JOB: $* ==
   cat /proc/$PPID/cmdline
   echo
   } /run/hostname.log 21
fi
exec /bin/hostname.real $@
$ cat /run/hostname.log
== pid=212 ppid=1 JOB=hostname: -b -F /etc/hostname ==
/sbin/init

so during boot the only thing that called /bin/hostname was the upstart job
'hostname'.
However, just running 'sudo hostname -b -F /etc/hostname' behaves correctly.

[Bug 1053020] [NEW] SRU: fix 1042758

2012-09-19 Thread Thomas Herve
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1042758 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042758

Public bug reported:

This is a SRU request for cloud-init to be updated in precise.

Bug #1042758 prevents people using cloud-init and Landscape to
automatically register instances: the configuration will be updated, but
Landscape won't start, thus forcing people to either write additional
code or manually go the instances.

To reproduce the problem, create a cloud-init configuration with Landscape
credentials:
#cloud-config
landscape:
 - account_name: $host_account
 - computer_title: Test instance
 - cloud: true

Using the released version, the configuration will be written, but the
client won't start and the instance won't register. With the fixed
version, the client will start and register to Landscape hosted.

The change is minimal and only impact the Landscape portion of the code.
https://code.launchpad.net/~therve/cloud-init/fix-landscape-
config/+merge/122870 contains the relevant changeset.

(I've just upgraded it to the latest version and tried again, same
  problem)

The symptom is while kvm was lauching NG, it failed, and rebooted all
over again. I've tried many times and I've also tried both Norton Ghost
2003 and Norton Ghost 8.3. Same symptom.

  Actual command used is,

- kvm -m 1024 -smp 2 -usbdevice tablet -hda hda -cdrom /path/to
+  kvm -m 1024 -smp 2 -usbdevice tablet -hda hda -cdrom /path/to
  /NortonGhost-Version.iso -boot d

The same command, using the same hda cdrom, works just fine under
  Debian.

  Please investigate

  Thanks

PS. if you don't have a Norton Ghost iso file, you can try
  Hiren.BootCD.8.6.iso. Works the same.

[Bug 1052664] Re: cloud-init should not write comment in /etc/hostname

2012-09-19 Thread Scott Moser
reported bug 1053048.
For cloud-init, and my own sanity, i'm going to remove the comment from this
file.
Also, it seems that fedora/rh also do things like:

gholms HOSTNAME=$(cat /etc/hostname)
gholms hostname $HOSTNAME

** Summary changed:

- hostname intermittently contains comment from cloud-init
+ cloud-init should not write comment in /etc/hostname

Right after installing tomcat7, I added a user to /var/lib/tomcat7/conf

So I went to /usr/share/tomcat7/bin where startup.sh and shutdown.sh are
located and started with ./shutdown.sh. This returned the following

[Blueprint servercloud-q-lxc] Lxc work for Q

2012-09-19 Thread Stéphane Graber
Blueprint changed by Stéphane Graber:

Whiteboard changed:
  User Stories:

[nested lxc - cgroup premount and apparmor policy]

Sallie would like to run juju with lxc on her laptop, but is afraid it
may meddle with her laptop's networking setup. So she runs juju inside
  an lxc container.

  [lxc-attach]

Joe finds one of his containers is not responding to the ssh port, and
its consoles are not working. He suspects a problem with its devpts. He
uses lxc-attach to run a diagnostics tool inside the container.

  [user namespace - unprivileged startup]

Annie wants to test a root fs tarball sitting on her usb stick. She'd
like to start at least a chroot or a whole container in it. But she
doesn't have privileges on this machine. She creates a container with
private user namespace and boots the rootfs there.

  [seccomp]

Zoe wants to run a flash movie inside a container, but is afraid there
may be a kernel system call exploit. She uses seccomp to filter out
  the most dangerous system calls.

[hooks, /var/lib/c1/root, and #includes, openvz migration]

Munro supports a large number of containers. Most of the container
configuration is shared from a common #included file. When he needs
to make a change to all containers, he can change the common included
configuration file, have a loop mount new filesystems under each
container's root, and add lines to the pre-start hook which the common
  configuration file defines.

  [encrypted root]

Rupert wants to run an application on an instance in the cloud,
but would like for the next cloud user to re-use his instance's
disk to not be able to read the application data. He therefore
uses an encrypted root for the container.

  [python api]

Yngwie would like to write a script to perform a particular update
in each container. He can use the python api to find all containers,
then attach to running or execute in non-running containers to
  perform the update.

  Assumptions:

  seccomp gets upstream
  user namespaces get upstream
  setns patches get upstream

  Release Notes:

  unprivileged startup
  secure nested containers
  openvz migration

  WI notes:

  1. seccomp work in lxc is blocked until seccomp is packaged.
  2. pivot_root is not possible into a MS_SHARED directory, making our original
goal of accessing the container mounts tree through /var/lib/lxc/container/root
not possible.
  3. user namespace patch for lxc is up at
lp:~serge-hallyn/ubuntu/quantal/lxc/lxc-user-ns. However, it cannot work
without some more kernel work, and we cannot be sure it is finalized until that
work is done. So marking it blocked. for now, though it should be mostly
completed.
+ 4. apport: Catching the crashes in the container and having the in-container
apport triggered would require /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern to be namespaced,
it's currently blocked by apparmor and unlikely to be namespaced. Apport on the
host is instead triggered, except that it fails as it's unable to locate the
PID it's receiving (likely because it's receiving the pid from the container's
pidns).

[Bug 675185] Re: [Hardy SRU] dash bug causes mysqld_safe to spin at 100% CPU

2012-09-19 Thread Raghavendra D Prabhu
I tested the testcase in the commit on Precise and there seem to no issue there
(probably fixed there).

Also, it is not the right approach to change #!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash since
former invokes POSIX compatibility mode and if dash has problems on any
platform, then that should be fixed rather than changing it in mysqld_safe or
#!/bin/sh needs to pointed elsewhere (or with update-alternatives).

Regarding the init scripts, I see that Percona Server is not packaged with
upstart script (hence vulnerable to this if on a platform with a buggy dash) as
mysql-server-55 does. I will open a separate issue to add that.

[Bug 1052522] Re: L3 plugin exists / dies when external bridge isn't up

2012-09-19 Thread Gary Kotton
From the trace it looks like there are a number of problems:
1. keystone authentication has failed - this means that the keystone
credentials are not correctly set
2. the br-ex is not configured. This can be set as follows: sudo ovs-vsctl
add-br br-ex
Thanks
