Looking at the error logs, seems like a problem with your existing
databases, in the logs there are syntax errors. Can you try with a fresh
install?

[Bug 1153626] Re: Multiple Interfaces and IPs not detected in AWS VPC

2013-03-13 Thread Michael Hale
Scott, thanks for the reply. This is not something I need at the moment,
but it does seem like a good way for me to perhaps learn more about
Ubuntu network configuration and udev rules. I did a bit of digging and
found the following files which seem relevant:

/lib/udev/write_net_rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/75-net-description.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Are there any other starting points I should be aware of?

[Bug 1133608] Re: Duplicate entry '9fe2ff9ee4384b1894a90878d3e92bab' on db_sync

2013-03-13 Thread Adam Gandelman
Fairly certain this is a duplicate. The traceback in the original
report is only half the story. Using G3, a db_sync against a populated
database first ends with error AttributeError: 'NamedTuple' object has
no attribute 'project_id' which Bug #1130424 addresses. Subsequent
db_sync's after failing once ends with the IntegrityError originally
reported. Applying the fix for 1130424 to G3 resolves the issue.

[Bug 1154803] [NEW] Default constraints prevents the allocation of nodes if they are equal to the HW.

2013-03-13 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

I have a cluster of machines where all the CPU's are 1, and the
following information is as follows:

Architecture: amd64/generic
CPU Count: 1
Memory: 8192 MB

Now, juju constraints, as specified by [1], default to 1 in the case of
CPU. Looking at the nodes, and being the constraints default to 1, it
leads you to believe that nodes should be allocated to users given that
they do match the constraints 1 or more CPU's. However, when trying to
deploy a node, no node gets allocated.

Looking at the logs, it is because NodesNotAvailable: No matching node
is available. A little investigation lead me to realize that the
constraint above only filter Nodes that are *greater than* instead of
*equal or greater than*:

This is what happens:

1. juju bootstrap - works fine.

2. Obtain node constraints:
node@node:/var/log/maas$ juju get-constraints
[...]
{arch: amd64, cpu: 1.0, maas-name: zookeeper.hdl, maas-tags: null, mem: 512.0,
provider-type: maas,
  ubuntu-series: null}

3. juju deploy ubuntu. Deployment seems to be successful.
2013-03-13 15:57:16,067 INFO Searching for charm cs:precise/ubuntu in charm
store
2013-03-13 15:57:17,253 INFO Connecting to environment...
2013-03-13 15:57:18,804 INFO Connected to environment.
2013-03-13 15:57:19,302 INFO Charm deployed as service: 'ubuntu'
2013-03-13 15:57:19,303 INFO 'deploy' command finished successfully

4. After a successful deployment, there are *NO* allocated machines on the MAAS
WebUI, however Juju does show the following:
juju status
[...]
  1:
instance-id: pending
[..]

Look at maas.log, it shows he following error:

[...]
NodesNotAvailable: No matching node is available.

5. Let's terminate to modify constraints.
juju destroy-service ubuntu juju terminate-machine 1

6. We modify the constraints so that cpu=0.
node@node:/var/log/maas$ juju set-constraints cpu=0

7. WE obtain the constraints to check they are fine
node@node:/var/log/maas$ juju get-constraints
[...]
{arch: amd64, cpu: 0.0, maas-name: null, maas-tags: null, mem: 512.0,
provider-type: maas,
  ubuntu-series: null}

8. Now, after setting the CPU constraint to 0, deploying a machines works just
fine.
juju deploy ubuntu - works just fine.

If you notice, it seems that the constraints should be satisfied by
being (=1 CPU), however, this is not the case. If there's only 1 cpu
and the constraint is set to CPU=1, no node will be allocated. This
might be the same case with memory.

This bug was found when debugging for bug in [1].

The case being is that when we deploy a node via juju, and for whatever
reason no available MAAS node is found, juju seems to have successfully
deployed a service when it hasn't really.

1. Juju deploy shows that the service has been successfully deployed:

3. Hence, no node is allocated (hence the WebUI doesn't show the

result = self.error_handler(e, request, meth, em_format)

NodesNotAvailable: No matching node is available.

This is unfortunate because for juju's eyes, a node was successfully
deployed/allocated, while for MAAS eye's it hasn't. However, juju should
show that no nodes are available and do not add a node that hasn't been
allocated.

[Bug 1154803] Re: Default constraints prevents the allocation of nodes if they are equal to the HW.

2013-03-13 Thread Andres Rodriguez
** Description changed:

  [...]
  {arch: amd64, cpu: 1.0, maas-name: zookeeper.hdl, maas-tags: null, mem:
512.0, provider-type: maas,
-   ubuntu-series: null}
+   ubuntu-series: null}

  3. juju deploy ubuntu. Deployment seems to be successful.
2013-03-13 15:57:16,067 INFO Searching for charm cs:precise/ubuntu in charm
store
2013-03-13 15:57:17,253 INFO Connecting to environment...

2013-03-13 15:57:19,302 INFO Charm deployed as service: 'ubuntu'
2013-03-13 15:57:19,303 INFO 'deploy' command finished successfully

  4. After a successful deployment, there are *NO* allocated machines on the
MAAS WebUI, however Juju does show the following:
  juju status
  [...]
- 1:
- instance-id: pending
+   1:
+ instance-id: pending
  [..]

Look at maas.log, it shows he following error:

  [...]
NodesNotAvailable: No matching node is available.

  5. Let's terminate to modify constraints.
  juju destroy-service ubuntu juju terminate-machine 1

  6. We modify the constraints so that cpu=0.
  node@node:/var/log/maas$ juju set-constraints cpu=0

  7. WE obtain the constraints to check they are fine
  node@node:/var/log/maas$ juju get-constraints
  [...]
  {arch: amd64, cpu: 0.0, maas-name: null, maas-tags: null, mem: 512.0,
provider-type: maas,
-   ubuntu-series: null}
+   ubuntu-series: null}

- 8. Now, after setting the CPU constraint to 0, deploying a machines works
just fine.
+ 8. Now, after setting the CPU constraint to 0, deploying a machines works
just fine.
juju deploy ubuntu - works just fine.

If you notice, it seems that the constraints should be satisfied by
being (=1 CPU), however, this is not the case. If there's only 1 cpu
- and the constraint is set to CPU=1, no node will be allocated. This
- might be the same case with memory.
+ and the constraint is set to CPU=1.0, no node will be allocated (maybe
+ due to float/int comparison?). This might be the same case with memory
+ (I didn't check).

[Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

2013-03-13 Thread Bryce Harrington
Alrighty, I've posted an update to the PPA for folks to test.
https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/lp982889/

As before, it looks like i386 has built, but amd64 is having some
troubles - I've restarted it and hope it'll build by morning. Those of
you on amd64 who are comfortable building packages locally may want to
just grab the .dsc and roll your own .debs. Otherwise, hopefully the
PPA will rebuild amd64 by tomorrow.

Maarten Lankhorst theorized that the failure to 'reset' may be because
we need to forcefully set xserver as master of the DRM, so this patch
adds a call to drmSetMaster(). Unfortunately, with the limited testing
we've done so far we did not see this as truly fixing the bug. Maarten
believes plymouth may not be handing the drm off properly, and has been
roughing up a plymouth patch to try to investigate that angle.

Anyway, along with the drmSetMaster() call, I've done a rewrite of the
patch, to make the logic a bit more presentable. I also knocked the
timeout down to 2 seconds. So, worst case, for those of you suffering
from this bug, this PPA should give you a slightly faster boot and
otherwise no change in behavior. I've verified on my own (non-bugged)
hardware that at least the xserver boots up and works properly in the
non-bugged case.

For those of you wanting to do more testing on this issue, one thing to
try is disable plymouth completely. It seems that simply specifying
nosplash on the kernel command line is insufficient to fully disable
plymouth, and it's thought that perhaps this may account for why some
people found the same troubles even though they turned the splash screen
off.

[Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?

2013-03-13 Thread Danny Quah
#64 provides a work-around that does the trick for me too. I'm on the
same kernel as jmac939 there, and about 50% of the time my system boots
properly into the lightdm login screen. But the rest of the time the
system fails to do so but shows only the black screen + mouse pointer.
When that happens, I type in my password blind and my login proceeds
normally. Obviously, this wouldn't work for a multi-user system [unless
keyboard arrow presses get the user to the right login box].

[Bug 1154443] [NEW] HP Pavilion p6 - System freezes during suspend/resume

2013-03-13 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

The system successfully passes the single suspend/resume test, however
in two attempts to do the 30 cycle suspend/resume, the system freezes
somewhere between 5 and 15 iterations.

The system seems to always successfully suspend, but at some point, it
just freezes during the resume. On one attempt, the system tried to
resume but the screen remained black, on the next, the system tried to
resume, but the screen was black with random artifacts on it and a
visible mouse pointer that was not movable. In both cases, the USB
mouse and keyboard were inoperative and I had to manually power-cycle
the machine to return to a working state.

[Bug 997470] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot

2013-03-13 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
I have an Dell Latitude E5420 which was sold pre-installed with Ubuntu,
and this bug affects it too.

So far it seems that the effective remedy is removing Apport:
 $ sudo apt-get remove apport apport-gtk apport-symptoms python-apport

This solution is fine for me, since Apport anyways only wastes my time.
It wants to report the same issues over and over, and I never get any
feedback on the bug number or what happened to the issue, and I can't
find the reports anywhere, so I assume the reporting system is broken
and my reports don't actually get send anywhere or at least never get
processed.

It would be nice to see a Canonical blog post telling how much help
Apport-initiated reports have had in finding and solving bugs, if any at
all.

[Bug 1122619] Re: Setting gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.background to inactive prevents the use of custom background in unity-greeter

2013-03-13 Thread Doug McMahon
** Description changed:

ubuntu-settings (12.10.7) is preventing a custom desktop background from
being used in the unity greeter

Test case: new install of last day or so:
set a new background, log out/in or restart, default background (purple)
will still be used

Test case: older install where the greeter uses a custom background:
create a new user, login, change background. Log out/in or restart, default
background will be used for that new user

- Downgrading to previous ubuntu-settings fixes
- (downgrade, restart, change background, log out/in
- Or just re-enabling org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.background active
+ Re-enabling org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.background active allows
+ user background in greeter. ie. -
+
  gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.background active true
-

  changelog of probable interest:
  ubuntu-settings (12.10.7) raring; urgency=low

    * Disable gnome-settings-daemon plugins:
     -clipped
  - background: Nautilus renders the background, this imposes an unnecessary
    check at startup.

[Bug 1154447] [NEW] Window elements and ultimately entire screen get scrambled after a while's use

2013-03-13 Thread matan
Public bug reported:

Freshly installed 12.10 desktop (in general, nice UI).
Every time after restart (i.e. restarting doesn't solve), various screen
elements get scrambled after a while's work. Icon's, window area get scrambled
and deteriorating to the point that the system is unusable as nothing can be
seen. At that point I need to open a terminal window (which usually still works
fine) and sudo restart.

[Bug 1154450] [NEW] printing multiple copies of a page results in multiple system print jobs

2013-03-13 Thread badgerhill
Public bug reported:

to reproduce

open libreoffice writer and add a short text.
now go to file-print and enter a number larger than one in the field Number
of copies
now click print

If I print a document in 10 copies, LO 3.4.3 and higher sends to the
print queue 10 print jobs, instead of sending a single job that prints
the 10 pages.

In general, this is no problem for in a single user environment, but in
our case the print jobs have to be released with a code on the printer
for accounting, which makes it very cumbersome.

Re: [Bug 1068756] Re: IPv6 Privacy Extensions enabled on Ubuntu Server by default

2013-03-13 Thread Neil Wilson
That's a bug in the software - not the server system. If the software
requires a global source address to work, then it should ask for one when
doing the bind or provide an option to do so.

If it doesn't do that then that is a buggy IPv6 implementation and should
be reported as such.

The problem here is developers using IPv6 with an IPv4 mentality.

On 13 March 2013 04:06, Tim Heckman 1068...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:

The problem is that by default pieces of software will use that address
when communicating over IPv6. Such as wget downloading a file over IPv6
or connecting to a system using SSH.

This should absolutely not be the default for a server system.

Hello.

Since I've upgraded from 2.20.18 version of intel driver page previews
in Firefox are rendered improperly (see attached screenshot). Tested
versions of intel driver are 2.20.{18,19} and 2.21.{0,2,3}, Firefox's
versions are 17.0-19.0. I don't think it is a Firefox issues it is
completely gone when downgrading back to 2.20.18.

My system is Gentoo amd64, currently with latest Firefox and intel driver. My
current kernel version is 3.8 and it is vanilla. I am using SNA acceleration.
If there is any additional info that would be helpful I am ready to provide it.

This issue happens occasionally, but I don't have a 100% reproducible
way to show it. One of the most sucessfull attempts to reproduce it is:

1. make all `speed dial` buttons (previews on about:newtab) in Firefox filled
with something reasonably heavy, not plain-text pages (on my machine it is a
couple of youtube pages, web interface to SAGE, couple of redmines, etc.)
2. close all tabs except one and this last one tab should be about:newtab page
3. middle-click all the previews as fast as you can one by one, so the pages
begin to load in background
3. now hit Ctrl+W till you close everything including that about:newtab page
where you've started. You shouldn't wait until all pages you've opened on step
3 are loaded.
4. now open about:newtab again and with a good chance some of the preview will
be corrupted. Sometimes there is no corruption, but some preview is displayed
on the wrong position, for example two different sites share the same preview
image.

Another way to reproduce:

1. make at least one `speed dial` button (preview on about:newtab) in Firefox
filled with any kind of preview, just any site you want
2. close all tabs except one and this last one tab should be about:newtab page
3. go to http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ and add it to bookmarks, then
close tab (sorry, bookmarking is the only way I know to make a specific site to
show up in previews)
4. open about:newtab again and remove any preview image from it by pressing [X]
5. open bookmarks and drag dreamworksanimation bookmark you've made on step 3
into the freed on step 4 place
6. now visit http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ so Firefox will generate
preview
7. close tab and open again about:newtab. The preview for dreamworksanimation
should be corupted

Sorry if the descriptions are a bit messy. Also I don't have any other
issues with firefox sites rendering, just issues with rendering
previews. I wish there was an easier way to reproduce it.

Hi,
I can not send a file because this service (hotmail) lets only files with 10mb
or less
So, The problem is not when charge but it is when the file is opened and
libreoffice get slowly. I probed this in libreoffice 4.0 32 bits and a pc with
good perfomance.
I don't know what is happened. That's why I asked for your help.
After of all, I am sending the last file I had problems using libreoffice 4.
The most awesome fact is this file doesn't have 20 mb and libreoffice get slow.
Incredible! Libreoffice 3.6 doesn't have problems when I am working in this
file but 4, sometimes, seems It is out of memory. RARE.
Maybe configuration?
I will be waiting for news.

[Bug 1154457] [NEW] No display after Precise installation finished.

2013-03-13 Thread Tim Chen
Public bug reported:

System: Dell Precision M4700.
The display in the Precise installer works fine, but after rebooting, screen
can't display anything.
Append nomodeset to kernel can make screen display at minimal resolution.
After installing nvidia-experimental-310.14-0ubuntu0.3, the display works fine.

[Bug 1147049] Re: Status input unusable

2013-03-13 Thread Paul Kishimoto
In the image (bug.png) — I used to be able to click where it says
Available and choose another status (Busy, Away, Offline, Invisible)
or a saved status, or enter a custom status message.

None of that works any more. When I click on Available, nothing
happens.

[Bug 946899] Re: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung

Just to give an idea of the frequency of the GPU hangs, I pasted below a
part from my syslog. After the 3rd hang in a row, the system became
unresponsive and I had to do an emergency shut-down (Alt+SysRq, R, E, I,
S, U , B). Hope this will help with the troubleshooting.

[Bug 1000244] Re: Symlink /etc/resolv.conf does not exist after installation or upgrade of resolvconf -- various causes

2013-03-13 Thread Basavaraj Chougala
Dear Sir,

I have statically configured the IP Address in /etc/network/interfaces…
of ubuntu 12.04

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 10.10.80.180
netmask 255.255.0.0
network 10.10.80.0
broadcast 10.10.80.255
gateway 10.10.1.2

after that, I have configured /etc/resolv.conf file as well…

nameserver 10.10.1.2
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220

lastly, I restarted service by this following command…..

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart….. ENTER

then I got successfully..

The Problem is when I restart the computer, then there /etc/resolv.conf
file does not show the mentioned nameservers.

but /etc/network/interfaces does not get changed. it remains same.

Please help me in this regard…. how to fix it nameservers permanently In
/etc/resolv.conf file.

Heartily Thank you one and all.

[Bug 1116659] Re: HIGH failure detected during S3 test

2013-03-13 Thread Jeff Lane
Honestly, since I do not have access to the hardware, and it's extremely
unlikely that we'll get any help from the OEM on this, I'm just going to
mark this particular one as invalid, I doubt we'll get any more info at
all making debugging impossible.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Invalid

Ok, I've uploaded tuxguitar to experimental now, and pushed the
changes to pkg-java/tuxguitar.git (I hope that's the right repo,
 there's also one under collab-maint ...).

never used that 2d one just the pkg-java git

 Hi Gregor,

Thanks for the upload! Just to verify, pkg-java/tuxguitar.git is the
 correct repo.

I looked but couldn't find the tuxguitar under collab-maint but didn't
see one. Perhaps you cleaned it up already?

[Bug 1117014] Re: sent messages lack time stamp

2013-03-13 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Michal, how can I back up the sent SMS to IMAP while preserving the
timestamp? This will soon become a serious issue for me, I'm afraid.
