[Bug 1158141] [NEW] apache2 forward proxy socket read error

2013-03-21 Thread Tim Richardson
Public bug reported:

I have an ubuntu 12.04 LTS server. I've set up proxy server on apache2, on port
443.
The server serves SSL web pages, and I can ssh to the server from a remote
shell. I can connect to ssh with a password.
I've set up proxytunnel so I can ssh to it from anywhere. But it's failing.

I get this Socket read error. Why?

Server version: Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu)

(churchill is my latpop, accessing the system. )
( I also tried running sshd on and changing the proxytunnel config, same
result)

-

churchill:~ tim$ proxytunnel -E -p ec2.growthpath.com.au:443 -d 127.0.0.1:22

We did have a problem with the version of python-compressor in both the
distro and the PPA - please can you check to ensure that you are using

I certainly saw layout issues without this update in firefox.

2013-03-21 Thread Serge Hallyn
Inside the freebsd guest, you need to have 'console=comconsole' in
/boot/loader.conf in the freebsd guest. Then you can do

qemu-system-x86_64 -hda freebsd.img -m 512 -vnc :1 -serial stdio
-enable-kvm

to see the hang. Do it without -enable-kvm, and it doesn't hang.

I set up a precise container on a raring host, with precise's qemu and
seabios. The results there were the same! Finally, both bug reporters
say that in quantal there was no such hang. This points to the kernel
as the culprit.

[Bug 1158170] Re: smbd 3.6.3 panic

2013-03-21 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Your report didn't include any Ubuntu package version or
release information. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1158170

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Once done, please change the bug status back to New. Thanks!

[Bug 1158141] Re: apache2 forward proxy socket read error

2013-03-21 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu, so I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If this is indeed a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then update your report, and then change the bug status
back to New.

The problem here is that you seem to be saying that proxytunnel does not
work at all. If this is a problem with apache2, can you pin down exactly
what about apache2 does not work, in technical terms? Or if this is a
problem with proxytunnel, then likewise?

2013-03-21 Thread Ben Howard
Initial packaging branches done.

Due to MS incorporating our patches into upstream, these branches _drop_
all Ubuntu modifications except that they carry our /debian directories.
This means that updating to the latest is _much_easier.

[Bug 1158141] Re: apache2 forward proxy socket read error

2013-03-21 Thread Tim Richardson
I have requested help already via the forums, but didn't get an answer.
I guess it's an Apache problem because the error is a socket read error, but I
don't know enough to test this. I actually don't know what a socket read error
means. There one another reports of similar problems on RedHat, where fixes
have involved SELinux tweaking, so maybe it is a security problem.
If an expert in apache2 forward proxying can help give me some steps to
eliminate apache2 that would be great.
Because this is an important tool to bypass internet censorship and because
apache2 and proxytunnel are common tools, I hope that someone can provide
guidance.

[Bug 392204] Re: Huge CPU usage by mount.ntfs process

Apparently the fix only worked for about an hour and then the ~95% CPU
spikes error returned. The solution Lok posted
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ntfs-
3g/+bug/392204/comments/77) is still working.

(churchill is my latpop, accessing the system. )
( I also tried running sshd on and changing the proxytunnel config, same
result)

-
