[Bug 468809] Re: Support adding custom debs from a local apt repository

2013-04-29 Thread Daniel Kulesz
Actually, --ppa sounds as complicated as --mirror to me. You have to
do (too) much effort to build an ppa first. The workaround proposed by
Nick sounds better in this respect, but still I think that it has the
disadvantage that it is tinkering, because you copy in deb files which -
even when you remove them after installation - result in an unclean, not
size-optimized image.

Summarizing, we have two workarounds:
a) using --mirror or --ppa: Leaves image clean, but requires additional setup
effort
b) using a self-scripted solution: Leaves image unclean, but requires only few
additional setup effort

What I was thinking about is a solution, that leaves the image clean and
requires NO additional setup effort except using the --add-dpkg
switch. This would be a very basic but clean solution. Of course,
internally it could be combined, i.e. vmbuilder could setup its own ppa,
copy the specified deb files there and do rest like if the user provided
the --ppa switch him/herself.

If I understand this correctly, your patch is only loosely related to
the original intention of this bug and the discussion, as it only allows
adding items to the sources.list and thus requires a PPA-site or manual
copying of .deb-files into the VM?

[Bug 1174148] Re: Can't build a raring VM

2013-04-29 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Changed in: vm-builder (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided = High

** Changed in: vm-builder (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = In Progress

** Changed in: vm-builder (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) = Serge Hallyn (serge-hallyn)

** Also affects: vm-builder (Ubuntu Raring)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

+ =
+ SRU Justification:
+ 1. Impact: cannot build vms for raring
+ 2. Development fix: add raring and saucy as valid suites
+ 3. Stable fix: same as development fix
+ 4. test case:
+sudo vm-builder kvm ubuntu --suite raring
+ 5. regression potential: this only introduces new classes to support the new
suites, so should not regress any of the previously supported suites.
+ =
+
If you try and build a raring vm on raring, it fails. Should be an easy
  fix, but is pretty important.

[Bug 1173595] Re: Unmatched dovecot lines in logwatch

2013-04-29 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It isn't clear if logwatch is supposed to parse dovecot log entries
already and is getting it wrong, if you're reporting a Wishlist bug to
have this feature added, or if you're just looking for local
configuration help with logwatch.

Please could you clarify? If you want help configuring logwatch, then
this bug tracker isn't the appropriate place; please see
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community for pointers and change the bug
status to Invalid. Otherwise, please explain and change the bug status
back to New. Thanks!

[Bug 987713] Re: Please remove seamonkey source and binaries from precise

2013-04-29 Thread Nomax
SeaMonkey package is available in Ubuntuzilla depot (tested successfully
on Ubuntu 13.04):

To install, type the following commands:
-

echo -e \ndeb
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt all
main | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list /dev/null

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com C1289A29

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install seamonkey-mozilla-build

More info: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/ubuntuzilla/

Alternatively, you may use Joe Lesko's PPA ( https://launchpad.net/~joe-
nationnet/+archive/seamonkey-dev )but it doesn't support Raring Ringtail
yet.

I really hope that someone will step up to maintain this high profile
software. I wish I had the time to do it... :-/

[Bug 1174411] [NEW] Checkbox prompts for sudo password in terminal

2013-04-29 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

Urgh, it seems gksu is no longer included in Raring, so when time comes
in Checkbox to prompt for the sudo password, it falls back to doing so
on the terminal. This is not ideal since if Checkbox is not run via a
terminal it won't be possible to get the password at all. Either way
it's not very user friendly.

[Bug 1098561] Re: Unsupported hardware watermark appears when FGLRX is installed on 13.04

2013-04-29 Thread Andy Meier
I upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04 and had the unsupported hardware
watermark issue with a Radeon 6770 plus fan speed control for the card
did not work.

The fix in the bug description did not work for me but instead corrupted
the fglrx driver. After running the script, X froze and I could not
kill it and could not switch to a terminal. Subsequent reboots went
straight to a crashed state. I made a backup of the .so file so was
able to restore a working system by rebooting into recovery mode and
restoring the backup.

I then tried to uninstall and reinstall fglrx and that did not get rid
of the issues.

Finally, I tried uninstalling the Ubuntu version of fglrx and installing
version 13.4 from AMD's website and thad did fix both the image overlay
and the fan speed control issue.

AMD Driver:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx

The Install Instructions I Followed:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI

Notes about the 13.4 install process.
 - Install driver worked.
 - Make Package option did not work (missing dh).
 - No need to run amdcccle -- the old xorg.conf worked fine.

** Description changed:

- In Ubuntu 12.10 and earlier, scrolling with the cursor over the Launcher

[Bug 1174418] [NEW] Privacy Extensions are set by default on Ubuntu 13.04, but no temporary address will be generate

2013-04-29 Thread Andreas Brück
Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu 13.04
Release: 13.04

Privacy Extensions are set by default on Ubuntu 13.04, but no temporary
address will be generate.

In sysctl (by default):

net.ipv6.conf.all.use_tempaddr = 2

-- that means: create and prefer privacy addresses and use them over
the normal addresses.

If i added the same line net.ipv6.conf.all.use_tempaddr = 2 to the
file /etc/sysctl.conf, everythings works fine after a restart. The
problem is, that the parameter 2 is set by default (results shown by:
sysctl -a), but don't work. In Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 this problem don't
appears.

Thanks for reading this. I love Ubuntu :)!

[Bug 1174420] [NEW] paraview freezes if Xrender disabled

2013-04-29 Thread Bradley M. Froehle
Public bug reported:

On an Ubuntu 13.04 installation, I cannot successfully use ParaView in
the Xrender X11 extension is disabled. (I'm using the gnome-fallback
desktop environment). Running paraview from the command line
sucessfully brings up the ParaView GUI, but attempting to interact at
all (say via File - Open or clicking the Open icon) causes ParaView
to freeze.

I'm running into this problem when trying to use ParaView over VNC.
Enabling the Xrender extension is not really an option since RealVNC
crashes if it is enabled. See http://kb.realvnc.com/questions/235

Steps to Reproduce
==

Since you may not want to test this over VNC, here are instructions to
reproduce w/o VNC.

Disable Xrender:

$ cat /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-disable-xrender.conf
Section Extensions
 Option RENDER Disable
EndSection

Test that the RENDER extension is disabled

$ xdpyinfo | grep RENDER
$

Then restart X and load ParaView:

$ paraview
X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
  Major opcode: 62 (X_CopyArea)
  Resource id: 0x0
[... FREEZE ...]

A backtrace from where it is freezing is attached.

Work Arounds

Unsetting the GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID variable lets ParaView work
properly. Why???

$ unset GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID
$ paraview
[... WORKS FINE ...]

Commentary
==

I would assume that this is a bug in an upstream library (Qt?), but I
haven't ran into this issue with any other application.

[Bug 1174414] [NEW] Geolocation not working in Chromium

2013-04-29 Thread Nicholas Istre
Public bug reported:

navigator.geolocation in Ubuntu's chromium-browser package is not
working.

Easiest way to see what's wrong is to go to http://html5demos.com/geo

According to developers from chromium.org, it's a packaging issue. I've
linked to the bug report and google group post below. But here's the
post:

 #7 phajdan...@chromium.org
This is a packaging issue on Ubuntu side. The Ubuntu packagers should contact
me (it's not obvious from their pages whom I should contact) about this.

According to forum and issues post, this started happening sometime
after February 20, 2013.

[Bug 1173238] Re: Ubuntu starts up to black screen.

2013-04-29 Thread Jake Migler
I'm seeing the same behavior on an HP 530 laptop (don't have it in front
of me at the moment; it's either a 945GM or 940GML chipset according to
specs) after an upgrade from 12.10 to 13.04. A workaround I've found is
entering the GRUB menu manually and booting with options quiet splash
removed.

Also worth note is that I have removed those options by default by
editing /etc/default/grub and running update-grub. But the workaround
only seems to be effective by manually entering the GRUB menu.

[Bug 1161371] Re: X server sometimes fails to start on MacBook Air 5, 2: no screens found

2013-04-29 Thread Christopher Townsend
So apparently the reason why it can't be duplicated to bug #982889 is
because of a performance issue in Launchpad (see
https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/227581 for more info).
I don't really feel comfortable changing the bug status in that bug in
order to duplicate this bug, so I guess we have to live with it:/

[Bug 745159] Re: Segfault in compiz when unchecking Snap windows back to original size in the Grid options

2013-04-29 Thread MC Return
The crash is easy to fix, but the design makes no sense...

Move is responsible for Snapoff/Snapback of semimaximized/maximized windows.
So if the user wants to adjust those settings and disable snapoff, he can and
should do it there.

Solution: This option should be completely removed.

[Bug 1171451] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 (raring) hangs on minimizing windows

2013-04-29 Thread Adnan Shameem
To my experience the freeze happens with the last window that is to be
minimized (when there are no further windows on the screen to be
minimized).

Steps to recreate the problem:

1. Open any 2 apps (it could be Firefox and File manager)
2. Minimize the first app (it will not freeze)
3. Minimize the second app (now it will freeze)

As I mentioned above, if I switch to another workspace and then come
back to the workspace (Ctrl+Alt+Right , Ctrl+Alt+Left) then the freeze
is gone.

This problem is not with Firefox only. It can be with any window. This is a

The freeze happens to the last window that is to be minimized. For
example if you have 2 open apps. If you minimize the first one, no
freeze will occur. But when you minimize the second one the freeze will
occur.

When I switch to another workspace and then come back, the freeze is
gone.

RE: [Bug 110784] Re: Toshiba laptop battery is drained while shut down

2013-04-29 Thread Sheldon T. Hall
David Tarrant wrote, inter alia...

I am keen to learn if this problem was ever resolved in later kernels.
The reason is that I would like to wipe winXP from my
netbook, but I am concerned the battery drain problem may return.

I quote from my previous post of 2010-06-02:

 I had this problem on my new Toshiba NB200-10G; BIOS v1.2;
Ubuntu 9.10 NBR (dual booted with XP)
[snippage]

I found that unloading the appropriate driver on my Toshiba R-100 (Puppy
Linux 4.2) cured the problem.

So, I had little scripts that, for example, unloaded the Ethernet driver
when I connected via WiFi, as part of going into suspend mode (and
reloaded it when emerging from sleep mode), and as part of shutting
down.

This solved it for me, and, since I'm still running the same 2006-era
kernel, I don't know if it's been fixed at the system level in later
versions.

[Bug 1174422] [NEW] Window does not keep dimensions when resizing a 2nd tab

2013-04-29 Thread Matthew Butler
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

Open a new terminal window (I used ctrl+alt+T)
On the new window, open a new tab (I used CTRL+SHIFT+T)
Resize the window while the 2nd tab is active.
Remove focus from window (I used alt+tab but clicking another window also
worked)

Result: Window resizes back to its default size.

Now repeat the steps, but before resizing the window switch to the
first/primary tab.

Any resizes on the primary/first tab will be maintained when window
loses focus.

[Bug 1173020] Re: upgrade from kubuntu 12.10 to 13.04. error with linux-image-extra-3.8.0-19-generic

2013-04-29 Thread Bruce Miller
Interestingly, when this error message first appeared, chromium
complained that it could not be run as root unless I set up a new
profile.

But at the same time, a launchpad log-in page opened in Firefox and it
is from there that I am commenting on this bug report.

I am going to try living dangerously, and to delete manually
/boot/initrd.img-3.8.0-19-generic, sincce it appears to be generated
frequently by post-installation scripts.

[Bug 1041759] Re: Remmina Won't Maintain Multiple RDP Sessions at the Same Time

2013-04-29 Thread Antonios Hadjigeorgalis
there is a button on the tool bar that lets you switch between sessions.
(third icon form left - switch tab pages) Or you can use the key combo
Right CTRL and Left/Right arrows. I'm running Remmina 0.9.99.1 on
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

[Bug 745159] Re: Segfault in compiz when unchecking Snap windows back to original size in the Grid options

2013-04-29 Thread MC Return
The problem also is that Compiz 0.9.9 has no idea about snapping of
horizontally semi-maximized windows.

This is fixed in 0.9.10 already:
https://code.launchpad.net/~mc-return/compiz/compiz.merge-fix1165198-horizontally-semimaximized-windows-do-not-snap-off-easily/+merge/158508

This is how the move plugin in 0.9.10 CCSM looks:
