[Bug 1406729] [NEW] dig does not have a default trusted key

2014-12-31 Thread Anand Kumria
Public bug reported:

dig, as supplied, will not validate a DNSSEC domain.

The +sigchase option should cause validation to occur but it does not.

As noted in http://bryars.eu/2010/08/validating-and-exploring-dnssec-
with-dig/ if a file called 'trusted-key.key' is present then dig will
use that.

By default dig will look in /etc/trusted-key.key and then the current
directory.

By supplying the file /etc/trusted-key.key, dig's signature checking
will work out of the box.

Thanks,
Anand

[Bug 1392319] Re: naxsi-ui-extract does not work

2014-12-31 Thread Thomas Ward
I have marked this as invalid against Vivid. In the latest merges, the
nginx-naxsi flavor and related packaging was removed as a result of
Debian dropping support for the naxsi packaging.

Notes to triagers and people looking to fix the bugs: The nginx-naxsi
package in Trusty and Utopic is community maintained. If someone from
the community provides a debdiff and/or code that is satisfactory of the
Stable Release Update requirements
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) then it can be reviewed
and considered as an upload/update for this issue.

[Bug 1278529] Re: Using S3, BackendException: No connection to backend

2014-12-31 Thread Stephen
The Boto S3Connection provides two methods to connect to a S3 bucket;
get_bucket() raises an exception if there is an issue, while lookup()
returns None if there is an error, hiding the cause of problem.

Duplicity uses the lookup() method and then raises this generic
exception (BackendException: No connection to backend) if None is
returned. The problem is that there are all sorts of reasons why the
connection to the bucket didn't succeed and this is hidden from the end
user, making debugging S3 connection issues more troublesome than
necessary.

A solution would be to use the get_bucket() method, wrap it in a try
catch block and then, on error, raise a BackendException using the
message from the previous exception.

For Duplicity 0.7 this would look like:
/duplicity/backends/_boto_single.py (revision 1041) in resetConnection() line
184
- self.bucket = self.conn.lookup(self.bucket_name)
+try:
+self.bucket = self.conn.get_bucket(self.bucket_name)
+except Exception as err:
+raise BackendException(err.message)

[Bug 1406813] Re: Piping ALTER TABLE commands throuh mysql client corrupts INNODB tables

2014-12-31 Thread Larry Irwin
Having issue with 5.5 when scripting updates to table structures.
In many cases, adding a new column will result in the xxx.ibd file left in
place and three #sqlx files.
And it is too much trouble to go through the innodb recovery process - so I
re-load the database(s).
I will create repeatable script and submit.
It does not occur on mysql 5.1 nor 5.0 on any of the 70+ servers I work on.
Only on version 5.5 am I having this problem - and only when scripted to cycle
through multiple database instances updating all their structures.

[Bug 1404409] Re: [regression] Intel 10Gb NIC Crashes

2014-12-31 Thread Richard Laager
Using 3.4.0-1.2 from Quantal (the earliest non-3.2 kernel that built)
yields the same skbuff error (not the stack trace as on Trusty).

Using 3.7.0-0.5 from Quantal (the earliest non-3.5 kernel that built)
also yields the same skbuff error.

http://people.canonical.com/~kernel/info/kernel-version-map.html tops
out at 3.2.0-64.96 being based on 3.2.59. I'm trying to bisect 3.2.59 to
3.4.0-rc5 to identify the skbuff issue.

[Bug 1406712] Re: NetworkManager crashes every few hours with Lubuntu 14.04.1, removing applet from lxpanel.

2014-12-31 Thread Uwe Lück
A first line saying that I often restart NM by nm-applet seems to have
been removed from my expanded report, below heading.

Crashes seem to be accompanied with

(nm-applet:6848): GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID 107 was not found when
attempting to remove it

as in http://askubuntu.com/questions/506824/nm-applet-does-not-work-
ubuntu-14-04. I tried their advice to

sudo apt-get install --reinstall network-manager

which seemed to change something … not sure, maybe a new strange message
appeared instead. I don't want to follow their GNOME-related ideas with
Lubuntu, and I think nothing is wrong with the fallback message after
nm-applet .

Maybe really notable:
 * occurrs with fragile mobile broadband connection
 * the installation is live persistent on USB pendrive, with modest upgradings.
I have another similar installation heavily
upgraded, it behaves similar regarding NetworkManager; I use too rarely to
report about it.

Another funny circumstance is that I have sudo rfkill block wifi in an
autostart script, but after some breakdowns of connection/nm-applet/NM,
LC_ALL=C nmcli nm status reports WIFI to be enabled, and the applet
displays available WLAN points.

Thanks,
Anand

[Bug 1406262] Re: Unable to set shortcut to media key PlayPause

2014-12-31 Thread Jakob Ronestjärna
Apparently when I was looking for a way to globally assign the media
keys to work with every program, I thought that these lines somehow had
something to do with it not working as it should. I suddenly remembered
the change and switched it back as I thought it didn't do anything.
However, it did in fact disable the key to be executed as a command. Re-
adding it fixed the issue and the key now works as it should do.

Could someone please explain to me why this is the case, and if there's
a way to remove the dependency of xbind as it clearly isn't needed for
any of the other media keys.

Thank you for your cooperation.

[Bug 1401716] Re: segfault when trying to play a video after suspend

2014-12-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mathew thomas, just to advise, it is best to keep the way you are
suspending consistent when testing to this issue. Hence, if you are
doing it from the power button, then keep doing that, and only that when
going through your tests.

[Bug 1406735] [NEW] package udev 208-8ubuntu8.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102

2014-12-31 Thread C. Jeffery Small
Public bug reported:

A few weeks ago I installed Ubuntu 10.10 server with the addition of the
xubuntu-desktop packages. Everything started out alright until i tried
to install sendmail in place of postfix. That installaton failed,
reporting a similar error:

subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 102

From there, things went from bad to worse. I was now unable to finish
the install of sendmail nor could I remove it fully and reinstall
postfix. Spamassassin seemed to be one critical package that hept
reporting errors. As I tried to install or remove packages using
synaptic, the system most of the time refused to act due to dascading
errors and partially removed packages that could not be removed, even by
force.

Today I threw up my hands and did a complete fresh install of the
system. Everything went well for the basic packages until I ran
software updater. A few packages were scheduled to be updated,
including udev and it has now faild in the exact same manner.

Could someone look at this and provide a quick reply as to what can be
done to rectify this situation. I am afraid to install or remove any
other software for fear of corrupting the system further and I currently
do not have a usable system.

Let me know if additional information is required. Thanks.

[Bug 1406740] [NEW] Failed when trying to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 with Could not determine the upgrade

2014-12-31 Thread Adrian McEwen
Public bug reported:

I ran the software updater and then chose to upgrade to 14.10. I'm on
14.04.

During the Setting new software channels step I get an information
dialog that:

Third party sources disabled

Some third party entries in your sources.list were disabled. You can re-
enable them after the upgrade with the 'software-properties' tool or
your package manager.

The upgrade seems to continue okay after that for a while, but then
(still in the Setting new software channels step) I'm told that:

Could not determine the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

I haven't upgraded to a pre-release version of Ubuntu, nor am I running
the current pre-release version of Ubuntu. I'm sure I've got all sorts
of unofficial software packages installed, but I'd need the installer to
give me some more information about what's caused the problem before I'm
going to go digging around looking for the culprit :-)

[Bug 1406735] Re: package udev 208-8ubuntu8.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102

2014-12-31 Thread Martin Pitt
Can you please run

  sudo sh -ex /var/lib/dpkg/info/udev.postinst configure

and copypaste the output here? At first sight it looks like it errors
out at invoke-rc.d udev restart. If it does, can you confirm that

sudo invoke-rc.d udev restart; echo $?

says 102 in the last line? Please copypaste the full output here as
well.

Do you have a policy-rc.d by any chance?

[Bug 1406740] Re: Failed when trying to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 with Could not determine the upgrade

2014-12-31 Thread Adrian McEwen
After filing this I spotted the no entry icon in the system
notifications by the date/time in the top-right corner of the screen.
It would be handy if the dialog had pointed towards this, as that seems
to show the details of the offending package.

I removed wine, which got a little further before eagle caused a
problem. Removing that got further still but still failed, and didn't
give me any additional info in the system notifications area.

Running apt-get autoremove removed some things but didn't fix matters.

It is now failing with the same Could not determine the upgrade error
message, but no apt-get error icon in the system notifications area.

apt-get check comes back clean. I tried an apt-get dist-upgrade
(before the apt-get autoremove) which did install a bunch of
additional packages, but hasn't fixed the problem.

Any hints for where I could look for further debugging info?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1018520] Re: evince prints shifted or black pages

2014-12-31 Thread MatatTHC
The problem is still occuring on the OfficeJet 6500. The printout is
shifted to the top of the paper if the margin is small sometimes a part
of the page is missing. It happens with any printed pdf from evince. I
do not know if it affects also other pdf viewers like acrobat or other
programs like libreoffice (I could try).

I do not get any bug report window (I don't know what Johannes means),
for me the setup simply freezes. ps shows that the gpg-agent starts
pinentry, but then nothing happens. No windows is shown, and the
application wait for a password that never comes.

tested it with Ubuntu 14.04 (tahr) and 14.10 (unicorn).

strace tlsdate -V

[Bug 1392319] Re: naxsi-ui-extract does not work

2014-12-31 Thread Thomas Ward
I have marked this as invalid against Vivid. In the latest merges, the
nginx-naxsi flavor and related packaging was removed as a result of
Debian dropping support for the naxsi packaging.

Notes to triagers and people looking to fix the bugs: The nginx-naxsi
package in Trusty and Utopic is community maintained. If someone from
the community provides a debdiff and/or code that is satisfactory of the
Stable Release Update requirements
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) then it can be reviewed
and considered as an upload/update for this issue.

[Bug 987167] Re: unable to set gnome-keyring key timeout (SSH and GPG keys)

2014-12-31 Thread Hans Deragon
Still present in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Thar. It used to be
configurable IIRC. Why the regression?

Workaround:

Edit ${HOME}/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf

Add:

default-cache-ttl 86400 # default-cache-ttl in secondes, here
representing 24 hours.

Logout for this to take effect.

[Bug 1278529] Re: Using S3, BackendException: No connection to backend

2014-12-31 Thread Stephen
The Boto S3Connection provides two methods to connect to a S3 bucket;
get_bucket() raises an exception if there is an issue, while lookup()
returns None if there is an error, hiding the cause of problem.

Duplicity uses the lookup() method and then raises this generic
exception (BackendException: No connection to backend) if None is
returned. The problem is that there are all sorts of reasons why the
connection to the bucket didn't succeed and this is hidden from the end
user, making debugging S3 connection issues more troublesome than
necessary.

A solution would be to use the get_bucket() method, wrap it in a try
catch block and then, on error, raise a BackendException using the
message from the previous exception.

For Duplicity 0.7 this would look like:
/duplicity/backends/_boto_single.py (revision 1041) in resetConnection() line
184
- self.bucket = self.conn.lookup(self.bucket_name)
+try:
+self.bucket = self.conn.get_bucket(self.bucket_name)
+except Exception as err:
+raise BackendException(err.message)

[Bug 1406767] [NEW] High ACPI event count on Asus K750L, causing ~12% non-stop CPU utilization

2014-12-31 Thread Nikola Nikolov
Public bug reported:

This started as soon as I installed Ubuntu when I bought my laptop,
about 3 months ago. Due to other bugs with the kernel that Ubuntu uses,
I switched to the latest mainline kernel available and that resolved the
issue for me. At the time, this was 3.16.3-031603.201409171435_amd64 .
Ubuntu(14.10) itself is using 3.16.0-28-generic at the moment.

For only 16 minutes of uptime, cat /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe_all yields
this:
50867044

Which is over 50 million interrupts. To illustrate the rate at which those
events are fired, I ran this command:
cat /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe_all sleep 10 cat
/sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe_all and the result was:
58397255
58916975

A little over half a million interrupts in 10 seconds.

Again - this doesn't happen in the 3.17 kernel. At this point, I'm not
sure whether this is a regression or if the fix hasn't gotten to Ubuntu
yet.

[Bug 1406695] Re: outdated, please update

2014-12-31 Thread Andreas Moog
The current version in Ubuntu 15.04 works with twitch. If you need that
version in older Ubuntu releases, have a look at the requestbackport
utility to initiate the process of gettting a newer version into old
releases.

Please also get a screenshot of that same window in english.

I am reasonable certain these are string that come out of apt-pkg, so
unless we run it through a latinstring somewhere it's probably a bug
outside our reach.

[Bug 1377711]

2014-12-31 Thread Vdragon
(In reply to Harald Sitter from comment #3)
Please also get a screenshot of that same window in english.
I can't regenerate the same window on this system, so I pick another
package(hime-anthy) on this case:
* Similar window when Muon is run with default LANGUAGE
environment(zh_TW:zh_HK:zh:en) (*garbled* text)
* Similar window when Muon is run with env LANGUAGE=en (english)

I am reasonable certain these are string that come out of apt-pkg, so unless
we run it through a latinstring somewhere it's probably a bug outside our
 reach.
I'm suspect there's a Unicode string being treated as latinstring here.

I ran
sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 100 duplex full
and the link came up. I did this well after signing on and was using wifi.

This is the first time I have used this ethernet controller with a

[Bug 1301070] Re: onboard not clickable/working on lock screen

2014-12-31 Thread marmuta
Espen, do you have the screen keyboard setting enabled?
System settings - Universal Access - Typing - On Screen Keyboard

There are two lock screens since Ubuntu 14.04, IIRC, and that switch
toggles between them. If it's 'on' you should get the old lock screen
that has Onboard embedded.
