Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 1254262, so it is being marked as such.

Summary of that bug: It seems that you are not using a software package
provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu
project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this
bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

Ubuntu never provided a fpc package with real content, it has always
been a meta-package.

In your case, please remove fpc first and then install it.

apt-get remove fpc
apt-get install fpc

[Bug 1428808] [NEW] Keyboard Shortcuts overlay font size practically unreadable

2015-03-05 Thread hackel
Public bug reported:

As with other areas of Unity, it seems the Keyboard Shortcut overlay
(visible when holding in the super key) is not properly rendering fonts
at the correct size. Please see the attached screenshot.

The numbers that appear on top applications in the unity launcher are
very difficult to read because they are so small. (Launcher width is
set to 36px, but even when set at the default of 48, they are still
difficult to read because of how they blend with the background icons.
They need to be bigger, fill up the entire area of the shaded, rounded
square, and have a black outline or something to make them stick out
more.

The text of the actual Keyboard Shortcuts help window is so small that I
have to get very close to the screen to read it, and even then the words
are not very clear at such a small size with only a 128 DPI screen.
There is so much empty space on this screen, I can think of no reason
not to make them all bigger to at the very least fill up the space!

2015-03-05 Thread EdouardC
Me too. Same problem with my HP EliteBook 840 G1 (AMD Radeon HD 8750M).

Back to the OpenSource provided by Ubuntu. Very very buggy:
  1) unable to switch smoothly (even with classic gnome without Unity) from
on desktop to another ;
  2) okular opens small PDF (less than 100 KB, yes 100 kilobytes, not 100
megabytes!) in few seconds
   and during the opening, the mouse freezes ;
  3) second monitor is not always recognize... i must sometimes reboot my

For all these reasons: hurry up to restore a usable FGLRX driver !

[Bug 410288] Re: Nautilus does not handle FTP timeouts well

2015-03-05 Thread Ross Lagerwall
See the bottom of the log: Attempt to unlock mutex that was not locked

The problem is that glib 2.42, used in Ubuntu 14.10 became more strict
about lock checking, and you're using a version of gvfs from a older
version of GNOME which had a locking bug. See this commit
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gvfs/commit/?id=2153d300f24d3388d7c4ab75a55451ad5a581b5a

Unfortunately, mixing and matching bits from different GNOME releases
can cause problems...

For a solution, you could ask the Ubuntu maintainers to add that patch.

Re: [Bug 1392176] Re: mounts cgroups unconditionally which causes undesired effects with cpu hotplug

2015-03-05 Thread Serge Hallyn
Can you explain what the patch does ? This will help us figure out why
its not working.

The pach is: implement -M to support skip mounting certain controllers

So you need to start cgmanager with -M cpuset to get the behavior you
are looking for.

The changelog entry said:

This doesn't change the default, so may not suffice for powerpc,
but at least offers a workaround. (LP: #1392176)

So it is a starting point and gives you a workaround. It seesm to me
that this is something that should be configurable in the kernel.

It also seems worthwhile for cgmanager to watch for cpu hotplug events
and do something when it gets those. But exactly what it should do
and how this is best implemented is not clear to me.

Rather than an advisory comment, I think the correct thing to do is to
read any (non-default) value for NEED_STATD from /etc/default/nfs-common

[Bug 1428571] Re: Software Update - mysql-apt-config - can't continue

2015-03-05 Thread Lpu8er
Just got the same issue. Performed the following tests, just to get out of this
:
- first, install updates from GUI; failed, it hangs forever. I had to kill all
apt-get process
- second, apt-get update then apt-get upgrade. After the upgrade, triggers,
then the configure mysql-apt-config, but with the console menu.

Then, I tried to kill the menu process (5794) itself : comes back (probably
from another process). Then tried the process mysql-apt-configure (5682)
without killing neither the process apt-get upgrade nor dpkg (which contained
all triggers and the state). Process came with a malfunc, GUI show me the
classic Report bug window. The next apt-get upgrade does not show me any
package, but I think I simply cleaned apt... until next update.
Mysql works fine too.

If it could help anyone...

[Bug 1357090] Re: Black screen on resume in Xubuntu 14.04.1

2015-03-05 Thread Thomas Blackburn
I'd just like to confirm this bug on a (nearly) fresh install of Xubuntu 14.04

moved the SSD to my HP Pavilion dv6 and the problem persists.
After trying a few of the above fixes (except for gnome-screensaver) the issue

[Bug 1311247] Re: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue

2015-03-05 Thread cptX
Please somebody answer us! We are so many people waiting for this bug to
be solved. Look the subscribers list!!! This is major!!!

Why such a serious bug is not going to be backported to 14.04 that is LTS and
should be supported up to 2019?
What is the point to install an LTS if major bugs like this are not solved?

In case this bug will for any reason in this world not going to be
applied to 14.04 can anybody give us some help how to compile it on our
own and apply it in an existing 14.04 system?

Anybody, please?

[Bug 1428828] [NEW] tcptrace csv format does not format number properly

2015-03-05 Thread De Coninck
Public bug reported:

When I analyze a connection using 'tcptrace -n -l -r', I get for
instance

...
TCP connection 20:
host am: 192.168.1.190:34086
host an: 37.187.114.90:995
complete conn: no (SYNs: 2) (FINs: 0)
first packet: Fri Feb 20 04:49:22.092902 2015
last packet: Fri Feb 20 04:49:22.335740 2015
elapsed time: 0:00:00.242838
...

But if I add the option --csv ('tcptrace -n -l -r --csv', I get

conn_#,host_a,host_b,port_a,port_b,first_packet,last_packet,...
...
20,192.168.1.190,37.187.114.90,34086,995,1424404162.92902 , 1424404162.335740 ,
...

In other words, the 0 just after the decimal goes away for the first
packet attribute, and instead of having 1424404162.092902, we have
1424404162.92902. The same remark applies for last packet

2015-03-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
the application being used for the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1428853] [NEW] Need automated tests to help find issues when setting up and starting unity8-lxc

2015-03-05 Thread Christopher Townsend
Public bug reported:

There are many moving pieces to getting a Unity 8 session running in an
LXC. Adding automated tests aimed at exercising the main parts of the
whole process will help in detecting any issues.

Areas that should have automated tests:

1. Making sure unity8-lxc-setup can download the Ubuntu Next ISO and
successfully create LXC config and the rootfs.
2. Making sure the unity8-lxc can start successfully and obtain an IP address.
3. Making sure the Unity 8 session itself can start from LightDM login.

Exercising those 3 areas will go a long way of assuring any issues will
be detected along the way.

Ideally, there should be daily smoke tests for the intended targets as
package updates to the host and changes in the ISO itself can cause
failures. Intended targets are supported Ubuntu release and the current
development release as hosts and the daily Ubuntu Next ISO found at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-desktop-next/daily-live/current/ as the
LXC rootfs.

[Bug 1425619] Re: Migration fails between QEMU 1.5 and QEMU 2.0

2015-03-05 Thread Serge Hallyn
@mgagne,

Just an update, I will push your patches as soon as bug 1262641 is
verified. Until that happens a new libvirt version cannot be uploaded
to trusty-proposed. Hopefully we can get it pushed next week.

I'm using the troy branch... I did the same as #322 (except for blacklisting

The connection kind of works but very often is dropped (it appears to be

Is there any feedback that I can give you to help?

[Bug 1428811] [NEW] Trusty hwe kernel (utopic) gpio shutdown trigger for ProLiant m400 cartridges

2015-03-05 Thread Craig Magina
Public bug reported:

This is an additional change following after the m800 bug (LP: #1347776)
and m400 bug (LP: #1354306), udev/systemd needs a rule to cover
triggering a graceful shutdown on the HP Proliant m400 Cartridge when
running the utopic hwe kernel in trusty.

[Impact]
Currently, graceful shutdown via the iLO works when running the base trusty
kernel, but if the hwe kernel is installed, it stops.

[Test Case]
Initiate a graceful shutdown via the iLO.

[Regression Potential]
The new rule is pretty tightly bound to the m400 system - so the risk of this
rule matching and impacting behavior on a different platform is minimal. This
will presumably cause new code to run and read /proc/device-tree/model on other
platforms - but this is already done for the m800 system in both utopic and
trusty as well as the 3.13.0 kernel m400 rule.

[Bug 1425699] Re: kernel panic on IBM Power8 PPC MAAS ephemeral image

2015-03-05 Thread Mike Rushton
I have tested using the daily images for MAAS 1.7.1

The kernel from this image is 3.13.0-46.77-generic

Still getting the kernel panic. See attached.

I am finding it is only during the commissioning process that causes the
kernel panics. Once we get a good boot and commission(intermittent), we
can deploy multiple different images without issue.

We only have the 1 Power 8 server in the certification lab that we can
test with.

[Bug 1425803] Re: Driver problem with USB chipset VIA VL812-B2

2015-03-05 Thread Warren
Kernel 4.0-rc2 tested. Problem remains.

In rc2 there was a minimal fglrx driver in the kernel so I was able to
get a more usual desktop and use the graphical system monitor app. The
manifestation of the problem is slightly different now. Total CPU usage
still goes to 24 - 25% when a USB 3.0 hub is plugged in, but the khubd
process does not seem to take excessive CPU time. Instead, the kworker
and ksoftirqd processes take it all up. The kworker thread(s) take in
total about 17% and the ksoftirqd thread(s) about 7%.

The problem remains the same in all other aspects. It is present with
hubs using the VIA or Genesyslogic chipsets. Excessive CPU usage
continues even after the external hubs are disconnected. The cure
remains to unbind and then bind the xhci_hcd driver serving the internal
USB 3.0 hub.

** Description changed:

+ ==
+ SRU Justification:
+ Note: This fix is not applicable to vivid, because we only support migration
from LTS-LTS, so from 12.04 to 14.04. Therefore a fix is only needed for 14.04
+
+ Impact: live migration of VMS from a 12.04+UCA host to 14.04 fail.
+ Regression potential: the patches to fix this are very similar in nature to
those already in the archive for bug 1291321. Therefore we are reasonable sure
they should be safe.

12.04+UCA host, and migrate it to a 14.04 host)

+
This bug looks to be very similar to bug #1291321.

The source host runs 12.04 Precise with Ubuntu Cloud Archive. This means
we have access to more recent QEMU packages.

The source host has QEMU 1.5 installed. (the package looks to be backported
from 13.10 Saucy by UCA)
The destination host is running 14.04 Trusty with QEMU 2.0.

The machine type used by the instance I tried to live migrate is 'pc-
i440fx-1.5'. (which looks to be the new default in QEMU 1.5)

When performing a live migration from QEMU 1.5 to QEMU 2.0, the
migration fails with this error on the destination host:

  Length mismatch: :00:03.0/virtio-net-pci.rom: 2 in != 4
qemu: warning: error while loading state for instance 0x0 of device 'ram'

My hypothesis is that QEMU 1.5 was built against the qemu-kvm source
tree. As mentionned in bug #1291321, the machine types defined in qemu-
kvm are not compatible with the ones defined in qemu. This means the
source 'pc-i440fx-1.5' mahine type is not compatible with the
  destination 'pc-i440fx-1.5' machine type.

A workaround has been introduced in QEMU 2.0 to allow incoming qemu-kvm
instances (pc-1.0) to be properly translated to pc-1.0-precise) using
  the allow_incoming_qemukvm libvirt config.

But since the default machine type changed between QEMU 1.0 (pc-1.0) and
1.5 (pc-i440fx-1.5), the above workaround doesn't work for people
running QEMU 1.5 introduced by UCA.

This means people with QEMU 1.5 on 12.04 Precise are stuck with
instances they cannot migrate to a host running the latest LTS without
  destructive steps.

[Bug 1171733] Re: Cannot connect to OS X (Regression)

2015-03-05 Thread Branton Horsley
For other's like me on 14.04 looking for a fix to this issue: This ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~remmina-ppa-team/+archive/ubuntu/remmina-next has
an updated version of the package available which resolves this issue.

One other thing that might worth mentioning from
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AppleRemoteDesktop is that the color-
depth must be set to 15 bit to work with OSX servers

** Description changed:

+ ==
+
+ Test case: See below. (Start a VM of machine type pc-i440fx-1.5 on a
12.04+UCA host, and migrate it to a 14.04 host)
+ ==

This bug looks to be very similar to bug #1291321.

The source host runs 12.04 Precise with Ubuntu Cloud Archive. This means
we have access to more recent QEMU packages.

[Bug 1428838] Re: package postgresql-client-9.1 9.1.14-0ubuntu0.12.04 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2015-03-05 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

and it's gone in 1.23.2-1ubuntu1 vivid, too. Thanks, must've been my

[Bug 1428796] Re: service stop; service start fails with systemd

2015-03-05 Thread Steve Langasek
Your output shows that systemd is invoking the init script for apache2,
because there is no native systemd unit in the package. So this is not
a problem specific to systemd, the init script must be racy when running
under sysvinit as well. (And even under upstart, since apache2 has no
upstart job.)
