[Bug 1518775] [NEW] gnome-panel cannot show newly installed software icons

2015-11-22 Thread Cui Wei
Public bug reported:

1) First => sudo apt-get install gnome-session-flashback

2) Then => re-login user with "Gnome Flashback (Metacity)" session

3) Next => install a software that does not exist in gnome-panel menu list
previously, such as "sudo apt-get install mousepad"

However, after installion of mousepad, its icons doesn't show in gnome-
panel menu list. I have to:

4) killall gnome-panel

5) gnome-panel &

Then, the mousepad icon can be shown in gnome-panel menu list.

This might be caused by forgetting to update icon menu list from gnome-
panel

[Bug 1515776] Re: 1002:68a0 After suspend-resume graphics are sluggish and input lags with displayport connected

2015-11-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michiel Janssens, given you haven't heard anything on the list, feel
free to post this bug to
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg=Driver/Radeon
.

** Description changed:

- This bug could be related to 1412730
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1412730
-
- Description of the issue:
- Booting up with displayport connected to Dell U2415 monitor, graphics and
input is responsive, also after logging in.
- However after resuming from suspend-to-ram, graphics are sluggish and input
has lag.
+ After resuming from suspend-to-ram, graphics on displayport connected Dell
U2415 monitor are sluggish and input has lag.
  Examples:
  - transition from unity greeter login locked status to unlocked status: 6
seconds (normal 1 second)
  - transition from clicking dash and getting window: 2-3 seconds (normal <1
second)
  - starting gedit: 4 seconds (normal <1 second)
  - mouse lags, sometimes the pointer is still on the left side of the screen,
while it should be on the right
  - input from keyboard lags, about 1-2 seconds (normal no lag)

- When unplugging the Displayport cable:
- all lag is gone
+ When unplugging the Displayport cable all lag is gone.

- When plugging displayport back in again:
- lag is back, same as before
+ When plugging displayport back in again lag is back, same as before.

- This issue only happens after suspend-resume.
- After a reboot, response of graphics and input is normal
- So two options to get rid of the lag: unplug DP or reboot.
+ After a reboot, response of graphics and input is normal. So two options
+ to get rid of the lag: unplug DP or reboot.

  Further investigation:
  Did a mainline kernel bisect:
From 3.13.11-ckt27 (good) to v4.3-wily (bad)
  First bad is v4.0-rc1-vivid
  Did a kernel commit bisect:
From 3.19 (good) to 4.0-rc1 (bad)
  first bad commit: [e55bca26188e45f209597abf986c87cc5a49894a] radeon/audio:
enable DP audio

  Commit bisect log is attached

- My daily baseline is 14.04.3 with HWE-Vivid.
- But because in the current HWE-Vivid this issue isn't present I'm reporting
it via Wily as you can see in the logs.
- I repeated testing of last good and first bad kernels on both 14.04.3 with
HWE-Vivid and 15.10.
- Exactly the same behaviour.
- I mention this because if this bug wont be fixed, it will still be there in
the upcoming HWE-Wily also.
- And if thats the case, I won't be able to suspend my laptop without this
issue.
+ WORKAROUND: radeon.audio=0
+ However, I'm not able to use audio over Displayport.

[Bug 1375433] Re: pgadmin3 crashed with SIGSEGV in _xend()

2015-11-22 Thread Claude Pellerin
I am running Ubuntu 15.10 in a virtual environment and accessing a
postgresql database using pgAdmin 1.20.0 Beta 2

I get this same crash when running Ubuntu under vmware 12.0.1 but do not
see it using virtualbox 5.0.10 nor do I see it running pgadmin3 natively
on my Windows7 (64bit) machine.

PgAdmin3 crashes consistently under vmware every time I right click on a server
and select 'connect'.
I can create a new server pointing to the same db and access that db perfectly
well (because it is initially created in a connected state) but if I disconnect
and attempt to re-connect, I get the crash again.

Hope this helps refine it a little.

[Bug 1505564] Re: Soft lockup with "block nbdX: Attempted send on closed socket" spam

2015-11-22 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Okay,

PPA is ready:

https://launchpad.net/~inaddy/+archive/ubuntu/lp1505564/+packages

Please upgrade kernel to:

linux-lts-vivid - 3.19.0-36.41~14.04.1hf00090138v20151122b1

By doing:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:inaddy/lp1505564
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install linux-image-3.19.0-36-generic
linux-image-extra-3.19.0-36-generic linux-headers-3.19.0-36-generic

And make sure packages are being installed from PPA. Then reboot server
using the hotfixed kernel.

I'm looking forward on hearing feedback if this kernel mitigated the
issues.

Cheers

Rafael Tinoco

[Bug 1372000] Re: Album art from images in the same folder not exposed

2015-11-22 Thread James Henstridge
There are test packages for this in silo 40 if anyone wants to give them
a try:

https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/landing-040

Things seem to work okay in my own testing (checking My Music scope and
music-app). This is based on Jussi's earlier branch, with support
extended to album art rather than just song art, and a small lookup
cache added (i.e. so if you ask for art for every song in an album, it
won't do the full directory scan each time).

[Bug 1511301] Re: Failed to upgrade fglrx from 14.502 to 15.200 on Trusty.

2015-11-22 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Hi serenity,

>From your bug link, looks like you were upgrading fglrx from
13.350.1-0ubuntu2 to 15.200-0ubuntu0.6, but not exactly "Failed to
upgrade fglrx from 14.502 to 15.200" as the bug title described.

Although the symptom looks the same, I think there are some differences
between those two situation.

Anyway, can you try to manually remove the old fglrx via `apt-get purge`
then installing the new one? I think this method might solve your
problem.

[Bug 1368647] Re: GPS and location detection not working on Nexus 4

2015-11-22 Thread Lorn Potter
Since it takes quite a bit of time to get a satellite fix, but it does
get one eventually (nexus 4 here), we can probably assume that it is
agps that is not working.

In the location log, I can getting errors such as:
E1123 16:30:46.685298 1232 android_hardware_abstraction_layer.cpp:157] Error
downloading GPS Xtra data: Timeout was reached: Operation timed out after 1499
milliseconds with 50170 out of 58711 bytes received

[Bug 1518855] [NEW] Backport better suspend/resume function for pinctrl-cherryview

2015-11-22 Thread Phidias
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
On some platforms the touchpad relies on pinctrl devices to provide GPIO
interrupt, but in 3.19.0 pinctrl-cherryview doesn't support suspend well and
will lose the config after suspend/resume, then touchpad can't be used.

[Fix]
There's a commit in 4.0-rc1 to add suspend/resume for pinctrl-cherryview:

commit 9eb457b547cc731bc2fc251bd79891a60c64fc3e
Refs: [HEAD]
Author: Mika Westerberg
Date: Thu Dec 4 12:32:50 2014 +0200

pinctrl: cherryview: Save and restore pin configs over system sle

which can be clean cherry-picked

[Test]
3.19.0-33 -> failed
4.2-> passed
4.0, 4.1 -> Can't suspend due to graphic driver failed so can't use to test
3.19.0-33 + patched module -> passed

[Bug 1492764] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled (expected 1, found 0)

2015-11-22 Thread Rajat Pandita
Update :- After using Kernel 3.19 for a while I received a Kernel Update to
Kernel 4.2 Now I am running kernel 4.2.0-18-generic
Now everything seems to work. I have the same hardware as Benedikt . Lenovo
z50-70 Laptop. I am running Ubuntu 15.10. I have had no success with Kernel 4.3.

Now with Kernel 4.2.0-18-generic all seems to work. May I request all to
check out this Kernel Update and see if it fixes issues.

Re: [Bug 1518597] Re: All system menus, as well as dolphin and other apps totally unreadable because of overlap

2015-11-22 Thread Chris Bertin
Well, that didn't work and my system setting menu doesn't have 'graphical
effects' but I think you pointed me in the right direction!! I also noticed
that what seemed to trigger the problem was to play embedded videos in a
browser, which explains why things sometimes would work for quite a while
and sometimes would mess up quickly.

So, after trying a few things that didn't work, I changed:

System Settings -> Desktop effects -> Advanced -> Composition type: OpenGL
2.0 instead of XRender
System Settings -> Desktop effects -> Advanced -> Qt graphics: Native
instead of Raster.

And, so far, so good, assuming the trigger was indeed embedded videos. I
will keep these settings and see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks!!!

[Bug 1197542] Re: System Info module not integrated with platform

2015-11-22 Thread Lorn Potter
There is a manual test app included with qtsysteminfo called sysinfo-
tester. You have to manually build this.

I can go though this on the phone, see what is missing, wrong, etc. and
fix it up.

It tries a variety of ways to determine different values..

[Bug 1316873] Re: Left mouse button stops working

2015-11-22 Thread path
This is really hard to spot but if you keep clicking for a minute you'll
notice that the /proc/interrupts doesn't does change when the mouse
events stop appearing in the xinput test and /dev/input/mouse0 outputs.

Add in a third terminal to my simple test frame work with this command:
watch -d -n 0.1 cat /proc/interrupts

You'll need to align the terminal windows properly in order to spot the
error with your eyes. If others find the same problem. Then this bug
might be in the kernel.

[Bug 931967] Re: Corrupted graphics after the login until the unity launcher appears

Just realized I needed to add that I am not using proprietary drivers.
ATi Radeon HD 5750, using identical Dell S2440L monitors using identical
HDMI cables. I tried to use the proprietary drivers but the problem
remained, although with some improvement.

[Bug 931967] Re: Corrupted graphics after the login until the unity launcher appears

2015-11-22 Thread D. Charles Pyle
Has been happening and still happens since the first install of 12.04.
I am now at 14.04.3 and the bug still is there. The difference is that
I see millions of little cubes, which then jump into big ones that show
my previous session from Windows or Fedora, depending on what I was
using just prior to Ubuntu! Any way to introduce code into lightDM that
flushes the buffers in ATi/AMD cards so that previous contents don't
show up? I don't have this problem with GDM.

[Bug 1518816] [NEW] xhci: Workaround to get Intel xHCI reset working more reliably

2015-11-22 Thread XiongZhang
Public bug reported:

 SRU Justification:
On all of Intel's shipping xHCI platforms, including both servers and clients,
the controller can cause the shutdown process to hang.
This is because existing Intel xHCI controllers require a delay of 1 mS,after
setting the CMD_RESET bit in command register, before accessing any HC
registers. This allows the HC to complete the reset operation and be ready for
HC register access.

Fix:
Patch in 4.4-rc2
commit a5964396190d0c40dd549c23848c282fffa5d1f2
Author: Rajmohan Mani
Date: Wed Nov 18 10:48:20 2015 +0200

xhci: Workaround to get Intel xHCI reset working more reliably

Regression Potential: Just add a 1ms delay for xhci_reset, so
regressions are very unlikely.

[Bug 1518821] Re: Cannot setup a user account

2015-11-22 Thread zjz
** Description changed:

  How to repeat:
  I. set up an ext4 by some other linux,e.g. Fedora, put your "home" into
that, e.g. my name is Mike, then there is folder named "Mike" in the /home/
directory
  2. install ubuntu, and say your name is "BuggyUbuntu", and set the "home" the
mounting point to the one in step 1
  3. There will be two directories in /home/, one is "Mike", the other is
"BuggyUbuntu".
  4. Add an administrator user named "Mike"
  5. Change "BuggyUbuntu" from "administrator" to "standard" user
  6. Log out
- 7. Now nice, you can never login to "Mike" because the permission problem
- 8. You can never change anything because you do not have any administrator,
cannot even add any account
- 9. The only solution will be deleting Ubuntu
+
+ 7. Now nice, you can never login to "Mike" because the permission
+ problem
+
+ 8. You can never change anything because you do not have any
+ administrator, cannot even add any account. Moreover, how stupid Ubuntu
+ is? It keeps asking you to enter a password to report a bug while you
+ are just a standard user. Each time you enter your password, it just
+ says "fail to authorize". Just treat the users.
+
+ 9. I tried to add another administrator in recovery mode. The user was
+ added successfully. However, the user does not show up while logging in.
+
+ 10. The only solution looks like just deleting Ubuntu

This is what happens in the first 10mins I was using Ubuntu. So
- frustrating. Is the Ubuntu designed by idiots?

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page,
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details on to
how to revert to the official Xorg packages. Thanks.

[Bug 1365695] Re: No longer able to use GUI after update

2015-11-22 Thread Thies Thate
Hi everyone,

I work with a Lenovo ThinkStation E32 with a Lenovo Monitor ThinkVision
LT2252P(1680x1050)
The graphic card is a NVIDIA GM107 [GeForce GTX 750 Ti]

Up to now I worked with UBUNTU 15.04 and KUBUNTU 15.04 with no graphic
problems.

After changing from 15.04 to 15.10 (complete new installations no upgrade) I
have problems
with the above mentioned card. The screen crashes already during the
installation and the
screen resolution changes to a lower value. (both for VGA and DVI-D)

So I returned to the 15.04 UBUNTU versions.

When do you expect the nouveau driver can handle this card for the UBUNtTU and
KUBUNTU
15.10 versions?

(15.10 UBUNTU and KUBUNTU work fine if I switch to the onboard VGA
graphics)

** Description changed:

+ This occurs on my shiny new Lenovo Thinkpad T540p.
+
+ I have my laptop docked in a Lenovo UltraDock running two external 1080p
+ displays.
+
+ When I'm logged in, if I un-dock the lapotop I get booted back out to
+ the login screen (i.e.- X crashes). This seems to happen about 90% of
+ the time, so it's reasonably easy to reproduce.
+
+ In order to try and reproduce this, I installed the X server -dbg
+ packages. However, with the -dbg packages installed I can't seem to
+ reproduce this any more (possibly a race condition?).

[Bug 1255700] Re: [HP EliteBook 8740w] suspend/resume failure

2015-11-22 Thread Michiel Janssens
In the initial report the parameter radeon.dpm=1 was used.
However in newer kernels this setting is default, so dpm is enabled by default.

Nevertheless tested latest kernel v4.3 with parameter radeon.dpm=0, no
effect

Also tested with parameter pcie_aspm=force and pcie_aspm=off, no effect
pm-suspend with several combinations of quircks --quirk-s3-bios
--quirk-vbe-post --quirk-vbemode-restore, no effect.
