[Bug 1616198] Re: FFe: Sync gnome-desktop-testing 2016.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-08-23 Thread Jeremy Bicha
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-desktop-testing - 2016.1-1

---
gnome-desktop-testing (2016.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload

  [ Jackson Doak ]
  * New upstream release
  * Drop 0001-runner-Exit-with-code-2-if-any-test-failed.patch, fixed upstream

  [ Simon McVittie ]
  * New upstream release
- use the automatic git export from git.gnome.org, tarballs have not been
  uploaded for 2015.1 or 2016.1
- debian/watch: watch for new git tags, not new tarballs
- use dh-autoreconf to fill in missing build files
- use system copy of libgsystem, the submodule was removed in 2015.1
- debian/copyright: drop libgsystem stanza
  * Replace cdbs with dh (updating compat level to 9)
  * Standards-version: 3.9.8 (no changes required)
  * Update Homepage to
https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/GnomeGoals/InstalledTests

[Bug 1564269] Re: 12.04 -> 14.04 upgrade fails in apache2

2016-08-23 Thread Marius Gedminas
Heh, took me a while to discover _which_ of my servers failed an upgrade
on that date (ideja).

etckeeper confirms that /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/proxy.{load,conf} were
symlinks to absolute paths prior to the failed upgrade. Curiously,
proxy_http.load was a symlink to a relative path.

[Bug 1612767] Re: Drop appmenu-qt5 from default installations

It seems it's something new in the last two weeks in yakkety, and not
related to Qt changes. Maybe glibc 2.24 related?

Hi,

a few things to clear up...
We do not run jsch on Ubuntu... at the moment it runs on either RHEL/SLES...
But we do use jsch to access Ubuntu and issue remote commands on Ubuntu.
The code we are using is making sure there is no more data to pull before
closing and has been reviewed by the jsch community.
The code works fine executing remote commands on SLES9/10/11/12 and RHEL4/5/6/7
and is being used for more than 5 years with no issues...
For Ubuntu for some reason we keep getting empty output strings every once in a
while (with very bad implications on the product).
We did not find any issue with jsch and the theory is that some race condition
or other issue on Ubuntu might be causing this.

thanks in advance.

[Bug 1615021] Re: Unable to network boot Ubuntu 16.04 installer normally on Briggs

2016-08-23 Thread Martin Pitt
** Description changed:

  == Comment: #7 - Guilherme Guaglianoni Piccoli  -
2016-08-19 10:08:07 ==
The normal procedure to perform a Netboot installation of Ubuntu 16.04 is to
download the latest vmlinux and initrd.gz files available, and kexec them with
no parameters (at least in ppc64el).

We're experiencing a strange issue in which the installer freezes before
menus are showed. The system hangs in the point specified below, right
  after the i40e driver initialization:

  [ 11.052832] i40e 0002:01:00.0 enP2p1s0f0: renamed from eth0
  [ 11.073976] i40e 0002:01:00.1 enP2p1s0f1: renamed from eth1
  [ 11.117799] i40e 0002:01:00.2 enP2p1s0f2: renamed from eth2
  [ 11.225745] i40e 0002:01:00.3 enP2p1s0f3: renamed from eth3
  ***HANG***

The most difficult part in this issue is that it seems to be a timing
issue/race condition, and many debug trials end up by avoiding the issue
  reproduction (heisenbug).

We were successful though in getting logs by booting the kernel with the
command-line "BOOT_DEBUG=2" and by changing the initrd in order to
enable systemd debug; only the files "init" and "start-udev" were
changed in initrd, both attached here.

We've attached here a saved screen session that shows the entire boot
process until it gets flooded with lots of messages like:

-
  "starting '/bin/readlink /etc/udev/rules.d/80-net-setup-link.rules'
  '/bin/readlink /etc/udev/rules.d/80-net-setup-link.rules'(err) 'failed to

-
- Then it keeps hanged in this stage. We re-tested it by changing the file
73-usb-net-by-mac.rules in initrd, replacing "
/etc/udev/rules.d/80-net-setup-link.rules" to
"/lib/udev/rules.d/80-net-setup-link.rules", since the former does not exist
whereas the latter does. Same issue were observed!

Notice that if we boot the installer with command-line "net.ifnames=0"

+
+ * Ensure that the rule still works as intended by connecting an USB

+ sudo ln -s /dev/null /etc/udev/rules.d/80-net-setup-link.rules
+
+ and reconnect the device. You should now get a kernel name like "usb0"
+ for it.
+
+ * Regression potential: Errors in the rule could break persistent naming
+ - or its disabling - of USB network interfaces. Running the above test
+ carefully is important to ensure this keeps working. This has little to
+ no actual effect on anything else on the system (aside from a
+ performance impact and spamming logs), so overall the regression
+ potential is low.

[Bug 1616296] [NEW] package nemo (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.nemo.root.policy', which is also in package nemo-data 3.0.6-1~xenial0

2016-08-23 Thread Bill Turner, wb4alm
Public bug reported:

was running ubuntu 14.04.1, with gnome (cinnamon installed over gnome about
year and half ago)
graphics card is Nvidia Corp GF108 [GeForce GT620] rev a1 with the nvidia 304
driver

Responded to upgrade manager prompt to upgrade to ubuntu 16/04.1

After checking found that most folks with Nvidia problems had them in June/July
2016,
so figured problems had been resolved. (Boy, was I wrong!)

Have spent the the last 5-days 8-10 hours a day, trying to recover from
this badly packaged upgrade. It took two days to get "past" the
inability to logon at all, and was finally able to make use of ctl-
alt-F3 to get a terminal session during the logon loop problem of
lightdm and Nvidia video drivers after trying damn near every NVIDIA
video driver since 304.

This was done using ppa:graphics-drivers and always doing a "sudo apt-
get-purge nvida-*" before the "sudo apt-get install nvidia-xxx".
Initially I tried nvidia-367 and it did not work. Eventually, however,
the nvidia 367.35 did work with gdm3, but not with lightdm.

I do not understand why Nemo is "not installed" as that was the software
package that I used the most (other then "apt-get" and "dpkg") during my
tty debugging sessions, once I could actually establish a tty session.

Amongst many other changes that was made while trying to resolve the entire
upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04.1 Gnome, was that I installed cinnamon 3 and then
uninstalled it...
...this eliminated a lot of wierd error messages. (Sorry, don't remember what
they were.)

Eventually I installed gnome 3.20 using its special ppa and when that
did not work, I did a new install of "gnome" and "gnome-shell". After I
did yet another "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3" and for the first time in
5-days I was able to logon with a Graphics Manager.

Upon login, I received a message that the "nemo 2.8.6-2" installation
had failed, and thus this ticket...

If anybody wants to try and figure out what the original root cause for the
ubuntu 16.04.1 gnome installation failure really was, please list what command
output and or logs you would like to see and I will be glad to attach them to
this ticket. While I am knowledgable and comfortable with Linux, I am not an
expert. (I retired 10-years ago from a lifetime of supporting very large IBM
Mainframes at multiple locations and networking them with many, many different
minicomputer and microcomputer hardware systems and their respective operating
systems in both workstation and server configurations.)

I have been having trouble with this as well. It happens occasionally
for me...usually after a long period of inactivity. Restarting the

service network-manager restart

[Bug 1616283] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon doesn't work properly in Ubuntu under LightDM

2016-08-23 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
Public bug reported:

When using gnome-settings-daemon instead of unity-settings-daemon (for
instance, in custom session) it doesn't work properly, namely, at least
following things are broken:
* hotkeys (including multimedia keys)
* displays management (gnome-control-center says no displays found)
* laptop blacklight management (when changing brightness level in
gnome-control-center it doesn't have any effect)

Those are the first things I've noticed. However, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and
sound settings seems to work.

I'm on Xenial right now.

[Bug 1615204] Re: select-by-word/double-click drag-select only works sporadically on Toshiba Chromebook 1

2016-08-23 Thread Aaron Marcuse-Kubitza
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

(also on Linux kernel bug tracker at
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=153871)

  Detailed bug description:
In Ubuntu 16.04.1 [1] on the Toshiba Chromebook 1, if you try to select text
by word, by double-clicking/triple-touchpad-tapping and then dragging the
mouse, this only works occasionally. However, selecting text by line with a
triple-click/4-tap drag works fine. This bug does not appear when Ubuntu
16.04.1 is run in a VM in VirtualBox.
[1] and now Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the hardware-specific update to Linux kernel
4.4.0-34-generic (the same as for 16.04)

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) On a 1st-generation Toshiba Chromebook (and possibly other machines, too),
run Ubuntu 16.04.1 from a boot disk
(http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso).
  2) Open a terminal window and type several words.
  3) Double-click/triple-touchpad-tap and then drag the mouse to attempt to
select multiple words.
  4) Compare this to the same boot disk run in VirtualBox, where it works
properly.
  5) Also compare this to Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the hardware-specific update to
Linux kernel 4.4.0-34-generic, where it doesn't work.

  Expected results:
  Multiple words are selected.

  Actual result:
Only the first word is selected.

  Reproducibility:
Double-click drag-select will work occasionally, but most of the time it
doesn't.

  Workaround:
In applications other than Terminal, can use Ctrl+Shift+Right-Arrow to select
by word (significantly slower for large text blocks). No known workaround for
Terminal.

  Impact:
Recommend not upgrading to 16.04 if you have a computer where double-click
drag-select doesn't work in it.

[Bug 1613871] Re: Regression: In dark conditions autobrightness does not adapt

2016-08-23 Thread Selene Scriven
On krillin and arale, this appears to be fixed by silo 31. The fix
actually allows the brightness to update even faster, by toggling
autobrightness off then immediately back on. By doing that, it can
update in less than a second instead of the usual 4.5 seconds. And it
actually does update now (immediately) instead of waiting for the first
change after it's enabled.

In any case, seems to work fine.

[Bug 1616262] Re: Unable to update initramfs with small boot partition

2016-08-23 Thread David Griffith
** Description changed:

+ I have a small 100MB boot paritition and an initramfs that is 37MB. Once

When I run the update-initramfs script, it fails with :

[Bug 1616266] [NEW] AdaptivePageLayout gives "TypeError: Type error" and cannot create new component

2016-08-23 Thread Larry Price
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Yakkety Yak (development branch)
qml-module-ubuntu-components 1.3.2060+16.10.20160814

I was using AdaptivePageLayout to build an app and everything was
working fine before the big yakkety updates recently. In running the
same code, I now see this in the terminal:

Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "overlay-scrollbar"
QQmlComponent: Cannot create new component instance before completing the
previous

file:///usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/qml/Ubuntu/Components/1.3/AdaptivePageLayout.qml:945:
 TypeError: Type error

And my AdaptivePageLayout no longer loads properly using the
primaryPageSource property. Maybe something in the new Qt is causing
this issue? Seems my system is also having trouble with the overlay-
scrollbar, but I'm not sure whether that's related.

To reproduce this, I created a new project in the Ubuntu SDK IDE with
the template "QtQuick App with QML UI (qmake)" and edited Main.qml to
use an AdaptivePageLayout by giving the Page object an id of
"primaryPage" and adding the following lines before the definition of
primaryPage*:

AdaptivePageLayout {
primaryPage: primaryPage
}

[Bug 1615204] Re: select-by-word/double-click drag-select only works sporadically on Toshiba Chromebook 1

2016-08-23 Thread Aaron Marcuse-Kubitza
** Description changed:

  Detailed bug description:
- In Ubuntu 16.04.1 on the Toshiba Chromebook 1, if you try to select text by
word, by double-clicking/triple-touchpad-tapping and then dragging the mouse,
this only works occasionally. However, selecting text by line with a
triple-click/4-tap drag works fine. This bug does not appear when Ubuntu
16.04.1 is run in a VM in VirtualBox.
+ In Ubuntu 16.04.1 [1] on the Toshiba Chromebook 1, if you try to select text
by word, by double-clicking/triple-touchpad-tapping and then dragging the
mouse, this only works occasionally. However, selecting text by line with a
triple-click/4-tap drag works fine. This bug does not appear when Ubuntu
16.04.1 is run in a VM in VirtualBox.
+ [1] and now Ubuntu 14.04.5 with the 16.04 Linux kernel automatic update,
4.4.0-34-generic

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) On a 1st-generation Toshiba Chromebook (and possibly other machines, too),
run Ubuntu 16.04.1 from a boot disk
(http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-i386.iso).
  2) Open a terminal window and type several words.
  3) Double-click/triple-touchpad-tap and then drag the mouse to attempt to
select multiple words.
  4) Compare this to the same boot disk run in VirtualBox, where it works
properly.

  Description of the environment:
- Operation system: Ubuntu 16.04.1
- Versions of components: N/A
- Reference architecture: 1st-generation Toshiba Chromebook (model name
"Toshiba Leon")
- Network model: N/A
- Related projects installed: none (boot disk)
+  Operation system: Ubuntu 16.04.1
+  Versions of components: Linux kernel 4.4.0-34-generic (also on Ubuntu
14.04.5)
+  Reference architecture: 1st-generation Toshiba Chromebook (model name
"Toshiba Leon")
+  Network model: N/A

[Bug 1612240] Re: [FFe] Please upgrade zeromq3 and zmqpp to 4.1.2 git snapshot

2016-08-23 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Łukasz,

When you say the next stable release of zeromq3 is "planned in the
nearest future", when exactly is that?

Since there is also a plan to get unity8 into main properly for 16.10,
this would seem to imply pulling zeromq3 into main. So we would want to
make sure we can provide security support. Would we want to include the
final release of zeromq3 4.2 in 16.10 under this FFe?

[Bug 1583102] Re: Could not execute 'apt-key' to verify signature (is gnupg installed?)

2016-08-23 Thread Steven Grimm
I ran into this today and the problem turned out to be /tmp:

# ls -ld /tmp
drwxrwxr-x 11 ubuntu ubuntu 4096 Aug 24 00:23 /tmp

This fixed it:

# chown root:root /tmp
# chmod 1777 /tmp

I don't know how /tmp got in that state on my server (it's a fairly
fresh install of 16.04) but perhaps that's the underlying problem for
other people too.

[Bug 1616256] Re: the default python3.5 lib that is pre-installed with ubuntu 16.04 has a bug (in re: cryptography, openssl, python headers)

2016-08-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1616256/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.
