[Bug 1501884] Re: linux-image-extra-*-generic postrm script runs install actions

2017-05-13 Thread Sebastian Unger
Why doesn't linux-image-extra's postrm simply run update-initramfs. That
seems the more sensible thing to do as it is the same as with any other
package that wants to put things into the initrd.

[Bug 282575] Re: Fw: something cool

2017-05-13 Thread Dino
Hi!

I just wanted to show you something really cool, just take a look
http://sees.mandyshomes.com

Be well, Lesti Lest

From: Bug 282575 [mailto:282...@bugs.launchpad.net]
Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2017 10:36 PM
To: lest...@libero.it
Subject: First ping and solid

Other than the water pipes being stressed as mentioned earlier, my next
concern would be if this is an upstairs room. Be advised that any
hammering required to break up tile could affect the ceiling
downstairs. Also be advised that the plywood was likely installed to
increase the subflooring strength and provide a more level surface.

My last experience with ugly, cheap tile ended up being a nightmare.
It was some form of industrial tile that wouldn't break easily. If
the tile doesn't break up easily, I'd recommend renting a demo hammer
and going at the tiles sideways. I'd imagine the plywood is simply
screwed into the flooring so it shouldn't be too hard to take up.

[Bug 1591669] Re: duplicate touchpad reported and syndaemon/synclient does not work

2017-05-13 Thread Jan Drewes
I am experiencing the same(?) bug with Kubuntu 17.04, all updates as of
May-13 2017. Suspending/Resuming does not help in my case.

Dell Precision 5510 9550

Interestingly, the problem started to show up only recently and
intermittently. I can't for sure say since when exactly. I will try the
above workaround by ignoring the spurious entry in xinput.

** Description changed:

- The title says it all --- especially when choosing recent documents, if
- they start with the same say 12 or 14 letters, it's impossible to
- differentiate them (see attached screenshot).
+ Several apps in the default Ubuntu 17.04 or 17.10 install have Ellipses
+ when shown in GNOME Shell's Activities Overview.
+
+ This was made worse by switching GNOME Shell to use the Ubuntu font
+ because the Ubuntu font is a bit wider than GNOME's default Cantarell
+ font so some apps that didn't require ellipses in 17.04 require them now
+ in 17.10 Alpha.

[Bug 1586195] Re: Realtek 8153-based ethernet adapter on usb3 eventually stops working requiring unplug/replug

2017-05-13 Thread Thiago de Arruda
The following workaround fixes for me:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2226734

Here are the steps adapted for systemd:

- Check the output of `ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd`. In my laptop I
see ":00:14.0 bind new_id remove_id uevent unbind". The goal is
to get the id of the xhci_hcd, for me it is ":00:14.0"(which I will
use in the following steps). Also verify that the output shows "bind"
and "unbind" as directory entries. The following commands should be
executed in a root shell

- Create a script to unbind the xhci:

# cat > /usr/local/bin/unbind-xhci << "EOF"
#!/bin/sh
echo -n ':00:14.0' | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind
EOF
# chmod +x /usr/local/bin/unbind-xhci

- Create a script to rebind the xhci:

# cat > /usr/local/bin/rebind-xhci << "EOF"
#!/bin/sh
echo -n ':00:14.0' | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind
EOF
# chmod +x /usr/local/bin/rebind-xhci

- Create a systemd service that runs before sleep:

# cat > /etc/systemd/system/unbind-xhci.service << "EOF"
[Unit]
Description=Unbind xHCI Host Controller Driver before sleep
Before=sleep.target

[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/unbind-xhci

[Install]
WantedBy=sleep.target
EOF

- Create a systemd service that runs after wakeup:

# cat > /etc/systemd/system/rebind-xhci.service << "EOF"
[Unit]
Description=Unbind xHCI Host Controller Driver after wakeup
After=suspend.target
After=hibernate.target
After=hybrid-sleep.target

[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/rebind-xhci

[Install]
WantedBy=suspend.target
WantedBy=hibernate.target
WantedBy=hybrid-sleep.target
EOF

- Reload systemd

# systemctl daemon-reload

Every linux user should put that linux is not support in their gigabyte
review.

I always bought ASUS motherboards, I gave gigabyte a try because of Ryzen
motherboards shortage, however I was my last gigabyte board.

[Bug 1609700] Re: username is not saved in openconnect connection dialog

2017-05-13 Thread Carl Ponder
I was having the same problem, and updating to 16.04.2 was the solution
for me, specifically

sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

given that I was already running 16.04. The problem had also been
reported here

https://askubuntu.com/questions/835556/network-manager-doesnt-
remember-login-username/913179?noredirect=1#comment1438576_913179

and solved the same way.
I'd suggest that this bug be considered closed.

[Bug 1501884] Re: linux-image-extra-*-generic postrm script runs install actions

2017-05-13 Thread Jarno Suni
linux-image--generic is present when removing linux-image-
extra--generic. initramfs-tools needs to re-create initrd.img,
at least if linux-image--generic will not be removed. If that
is the only reason, I think it would be better to do the re-creation in
a postrm script than run all postinst scripts. /etc/kernel/postrm.d
/initramfs-tools could detect it is removing a linux-image-extra package
and then do the right thing.

[Bug 1553211] Re: Ubuntu should provide a default graphical method to install technical packages (kernels, console apps, etc.)

2017-05-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
As Matthias pointed out, GNOME Software especially in Ubuntu 17.04
already supports apps showing plugins. Please file a bug if you know of
any plugins that are packaged in Ubuntu but are not showing up on the
app description page. Please use the tag 'appstream' for these bugs.

You should be able to install drivers with Ubuntu's Software & Updates
(software-properties-gtk) app.

Therefore, I updated this bug's title.

** Summary changed:

- Ubuntu should provide a default graphical method to install technical
packages (plugins, kernels, console apps, drivers)

In the absence of a fix, would some be gracious enough to let me know of

just edited it to mount a USB drive. I can provide more details (if

[Bug 1672175] Re: gnome-shell should recommend chrome-gnome-shell

2017-05-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released

** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
  Users who have ubuntu-gnome-desktop installed recently got chrome-gnome-shell
installed to fix a regression introduced in Firefox 52 (LP: #1323734).

  Some people use gnome-shell without that metapackage installed.

  Test Case
  =
  Does gnome-shell recommend chrome-gnome-shell?

  Regression Potential

  Low. chrome-gnome-shell was already tested (LP: #1652537)

  Other Info
  ==
  This is only a recommends since perhaps users of gnome-shell without
ubuntu-gnome-desktop don't want a lot of extra packages installed. This isn't
critical functionality.
+
+ Ubuntu 17.04 was released with gnome-shell recommending chrome-gnome-
+ shell.
+
+ Currently, Ubuntu 17.10 Alpha's gnome-shell does not recommend chrome-
+ gnome-shell because the Ubuntu Desktop Team is trying to get a minimal
+ gnome-shell into main first then add the extra dependencies later. I
+ expect chrome-gnome-shell to be in main and be restored as a recommends
+ before 17.10 is released.

[Bug 1672659] Re: Upstart waits indefinitely for LVM devices making boot process hang

2017-05-13 Thread Marcin Krol
Bug is more generic. Basically if some device listed in /etc/fstab is
not available mountall job will hang forever. Example:

1. System has root crypted with password
2. All LVM volumes are on disk crypted with key file placed on root device
3. fstab contains references to LVM volumes

Result:

1. Systems asks for root device password and it is successfully mounted
2. System doesn't decrypt disk with LVM volumes
3. LVM volumes are not available so mountall hangs and systemd doesn't boot

As previously, this can be fixed with simple script in /etc/initramfs-
tools/scripts/local-bottom that decrypts LVM disk and issues lvm
vgchange -ay. Again, problem doesn't exist when using systemd.

** Summary changed:

- Upstart waits indefinitely for LVM devices making boot process hang
+ Upstart (mountall job) waits indefinitely for devices making boot process hang

[Bug 1690586] [NEW] Kernel v4.8.0: Black screen and automatic shutdown

2017-05-13 Thread Jakob Leben
Public bug reported:

When using the kernel version 4.8.0, at some unpredictable time after
boot, the screen goes black, the compute fan starts working at top
speed, and after a couple seconds the computer shuts down (probably due
to overheating).

This does not happen with the mainline kernel version 3.19.8, but it
does also happen with the mainline kernel version 4.10.0.

+ Regression Potential
+
+ I also tested with gnome-shell-extension-onboard installed. Onboard appears
to completely ignore the Screen Keyboard setting (LP: #1690582). Also when
Onboard is enabled, caribou is not shown at all except in the password prompts
and Activities Overview search where onboard is currently not working. In other
words, I tested whether having caribou installed would interfere with Onboard
and I can see that Caribou provides no problem.
+
+ Original Bug Report
+ ---
  The gnome on-screen keyboard is hidden by default and should appear when a
text field is focused.
  This behavior is working as expected clicking on one of the text field of the
shell such as the search field in the gnome overview. Clicking on text fields
not owned by the gnome-shell such as in gedit or in a terminal emulator doesn't
un-hide the keyboard.

  Steps to reproduce the issue:
- * Enable the keyboard in accessibility.
- * Open a text editor. (I've tested with gedit)
-  * Click on the text field/area.
+  * Enable the keyboard in accessibility.
+  * Open a text editor. (I've tested with gedit)
+  * Click on the text field/area.

  Expected behavior:
- * The keyboard should appear.
+  * The keyboard should appear.

  Actual behavior:
-  * The keyboard doesn't appear.
+  * The keyboard doesn't appear.

  Also, I think it would be useful to be able to choose:
- * Between the "fullscreen" mode (the default one) and a windowed mode.
- * Between the "show on focus" behavior and a "always shown" behavior.
+  * Between the "fullscreen" mode (the default one) and a windowed mode.
+  * Between the "show on focus" behavior and a "always shown" behavior.

  The "fullscreen" mode should be incompatibile with the "always shown"
  behavior unless there is a way to close it manually (a button on the on-
  screen keyboard) in order to prevent a deadlock-like situation where the
  keyboard is preventing us from closing itself because we can't click in
  a window behind it. That button already exists and has a similar
  behavior.

[Bug 1690544] Re: include proper fix for CVE-2007-3126, released in GIMP 2.8.22

2017-05-13 Thread Michael Schumacher
As I wrote in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773233#c2
(that's the bug for the master branch, where GIMP 2.9.x is being made
from), I could not reproduce the crash mentioned in the CVE. Probably no
surprise, given that CVE was reported against GIMP 2.3.x

However, I'd like to stress that this bug might have been fixed a lot
earlier if any of the downstream vendors who noticed it had reported it
upstream. Please make sure that every non-Ubuntu-specific bug in
Launchpad has a corresponding upstream bug report (adding a reference to
thess is what the "Also affects project" link is for), or that an
upstream report is made if you can't find one.

[Bug 1690577] Re: Batch mode won't run in headless environment.

2017-05-13 Thread glank314
A work around is to install and use a virtual frame buffer. Instructions
below with others who have the same requirement:

1) Install xvfb (X Virtual Frame Buffer)

sudo apt-get install xvfb

2) Start a virtual frame buffer and switch your terminal onto it. Note
the capitalization of Xvfb below, that's not a typo.

Xvfb :99 &
export DISPLAY=:99

3) Run your batch soundconverter command:

soundconverter -b -m "audio/mpeg" -s ".mp3" *.flac

[Bug 528895] Re: git-core should depend on man-db

2017-05-13 Thread Nickolas Burr
Although somewhat detached from the original bug description, I
encountered a similar issue with git (1.9.1, 2.11.0) while using trusty
on WSL. I received the following error message when running 'git help':

warning: failed to exec 'man': Is a directory
fatal: no man viewer handled the request

I'm not sure if it's a package misconfiguration or something else, but I
was able to find a workaround by manually setting the path to the man
executable: git config --global man.man.path /usr/bin/man

[Bug 1076890] Re: GNOME Shell crash

2017-05-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I'm glad you're still using Ubuntu!

I'm just trying to clean up some of the old bugs to make it a bit easier
for us to try to deal with. 

Re: [Bug 1677329] Re: libpam-winbind: unable to dlopen

2017-05-13 Thread Andreas Hasenack
You have to apply all the patches from the Debian package. I suggest to get
the git branch and do a dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us -b

[Bug 1690536] Re: please update to webkit2gtk 2.16.2

2017-05-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  --
  WebKitGTK 2.16.2 is here:

  https://webkitgtk.org/2017/05/09/webkitgtk2.16.2-released.html

  Please update Zesty (17.04) with this release. Thanks!

  The first part of the changelog (the fix for Google new's login and the
  new YouTube) (LP: #1687019) was already backported to Ubuntu so that we
  could get that high priority fix to Ubuntu users faster.

  Test Case
  -
  1. Check a recent Ubuntu 17.10 daily build that has webkit2gtk 2.16.2 to
ensure the installer slideshow works.

  2. Make sure that epiphany-browser, evolution and yelp still work since
  historically they used some of webkit2gtk's internal API.

  Regression Potential

  Last year, a minor WebKit release in Ubuntu's development release had some
regressions which broke our installer slideshow (LP: #1618956) so now we
specifically check that.

  Other Info
  --
- This update did cause sphinx's autopkgtests to fail. But that appears to have
been because of a bug in those autopkgtests and is unlikely to affect anything
else.

[Bug 1687711] Re: strongSwan 5.3.5 has a known incompatibility with iOS/macOS 10+

2017-05-13 Thread Simon Déziel
I was able to reproduce the problematic scenario with an iOS 10.3.1
client and I'm happy to say that 5.3.5-1ubuntu3.2 [*] fixes it. Thanks
Christian!

[Bug 1076890] Re: GNOME Shell crash

2017-05-13 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
Thanks. Glad you took the time to reply. The bug report is five years
old, and I have long since upgraded to latest Ubuntu a few times. 

On the other hand, I am thankful that Ubuntu is coming back into Gnome
proper going forward. I never was too enthused by the conflicts
inflicted by Unity bring separate but still using Gnome applications.

Good luck, and thanks.

Are you still able to reproduce this issue?

If so, could you please give specific steps for how to reproduce it
starting from a clean install or from the live Ubuntu GNOME image?
