[Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2018-01-06 Thread Chelmite
I'm getting this error on Ubuntu 17.10:
W: Download is performed unsandboxed as root as file
'/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_cl' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. -
pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)

I have a user _apt, and it owns /var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-
downloads/partial/

It looks like the problems are 2-fold:
1. The double-slash in '/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_cl' is equivalent to /tmp_cl,
isn't it? That doesn't exist, and probably shouldn't. The double-slash should
probably be a single slash.
2. Why is _apt supposed to be able to access anything in /root? If
/root/.synaptic/tmp is a special case, then somebody or some program needs to
change its ownership. Right now it's:
drwx-- 2 root root /root/.synaptic/tmp

2018-01-06 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Bug misfiled, would've been useful to know about it a month ago :/

If you are able to build the package from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/updates then
that would be great. PPA builders are offline for days now because of
SPECTRE.

[Bug 1741447] Re: Unity / Compiz in a crash loop after login, after mesa updates of 2018-01-04

2018-01-06 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Could you test 17.10 live image? It comes with 17.2.2 and should work,
then upgrading to artful-proposed should break it again since it has
17.2.4.

Looks like Intel gen4 & 5 regressed, everything newer seems to work fine
which is why testing didn't catch this. There is a newer upstream
version available (17.2.8) but PPA builders are down so I don't have
that available for testing.

[Bug 1741711] [NEW] ubi-partman error when trying to install after quitting installer

2018-01-06 Thread Daniel Lim
Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
Release: 18.04
(but also on other flavours it seems)

When booting from a live image and trying to install after quitting the
installer once, the following error appears.

ubi-partman failed with exit code 10. Further information may be found
in /var/log/syslog. Do you want to try running this step again before
continuing If you do not, your installation may fail entirely or may be
broken.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Boot from a live image
2) Select install Ubuntu (e.g. Lubuntu, Kubuntu, ...)
3) Proceed until the "Installation Type" section and choose one of it.
4) Quit installer
5) On desktop, click on install Ubuntu
6) Proceed until the "Installation Type" section.

Even so, installation seems to work fine though. So not sure if this is
something to be concerned about.

2018-01-06 Thread Eric Wright
For what it's worth, and I'm not sure if this is related... But I believe this
package is failing to install because the efi partition it is looking for may
not be found if secure boot is disabled?
I have secure boot disabled on this laptop, which is required for proprietary
nVidia drivers.

[Bug 1719724] Re: zfs-auto-snapshot 1.2.2-1 does not make snapshots

2018-01-06 Thread Robert
I just hit this as well after I finally noticed that I've had no backups
since 28 Oct when I upgraded to Artful. It means I have only 1 hour of
history (4x15 "frequent"s), mostly defeating the point of this package.
+1 to pulling down the fix or else reverting to the version in Zesty,
which did work.

it also needs qt 5.10.0 to run. What about an update?

[Bug 1741698] [NEW] DNS break after Artful/17.10 upgrade

2018-01-06 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I was running Zesty/17.04. I upgraded to Artful/17.10 over SSH using
upgrade-manager. Priot to upgrade everything worked fine using DHCP.
After reboot name resolution broke. I understand Systemd is now the
resolver.

A lot of people are suffering https://askubuntu.com/questions/966870
/dns-not-working-after-upgrade-17-04-to-17-10 . It looks like a mix of
Network Manager problems and Systemd problems.

This looks like a similar report, but comment 20 says to file a new bug.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/1725840 .

Something is missing in the upgrade scripts. I don't know what, but it
would be nice if it was fixed.

[Bug 1644848] Re: in Writer, Page sidebar menus have unreadable text on dark background

2018-01-06 Thread Adam Dingle
I'm no longer seeing this in LibreOffice Witer 5.4.2.2 on Ubuntu 17.10.
In that version the popup menus have moved to a new sidebar tab called
Page, and this issue does not occur there.

So this is effectively fixed. I'm marking this bug report as Fix
Released.

Also the error message is misleading, there's nothing "temporary" about

I can reach IP addresses directly but all DNS lookups are failing,
preventing me from doing upgrades and normal operations.

[Bug 1530667] Re: Loading pylint.elc causes emacs24 to hang for a VERY LONG TIME at startup

2018-01-06 Thread Neil Jerram
I would guess that this is because pylint.el includes:

(require 'tramp)

and that this is more a problem with Tramp startup, than with pylint.
I've had slow Tramp startup problems in other contexts unrelated to
python.

Possibly relevant references:

https://magit.vc/manual/magit/Emacs-245-hangs-when-loading-
Magit.html#Emacs-245-hangs-when-loading-Magit, which includes:

> You can work around the problem by setting tramp-ssh-controlmaster-
options. Changing your DNS server (e.g. to Google’s 8.8.8.8) may also be
sufficient to work around the issue.

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2018-01-06 Thread Danny
Hi i have a Lenovo g50-80 with the same bug ate the time i didnt notice at the
BIOS but i could only boot to Ubuntu and i copied my files to a hard drive and
recovered windows 10 with one key recovery doing boot repair though ubuntu. he
gave me various options in grub to pick and i choose the one key recovery and i
got my windows that came with the pc (windows 8.1). but from that moment
windows overlapped grub and i could access ubuntu anymore. i wasnt using it
actively so i deleted the partition with ubuntu. but a few days later i noticed
that the BIOS wasnt saving setting i made..
So now i have windows 10 is there any way i could fix this bug from windows?

[Bug 1741502] Re: Unity launcher disappears with all windows when I move mouse pointers on the launcher

2018-01-06 Thread Chris Perry
This sounds like the problem I have. I did a system update on Thursday
and the problems started once I rebooted. Additional problems that I
have are that Alt + Tab no longer works (it should display the task
list). I couldn't find any way of switching tasks except to click two or
three times on the appropriate icon on the Launcher. Another problem is
that Shutdown no longer works from the system menu so I shutdown using
the shutdown command in a terminal. The problems switching tasks make
ubuntu near unusable on my 16.04 laptop so I'm now using a spare laptop
running 17.10.

[Bug 1735594] Re: ubuntu automatically logs out when hovering sidebar

2018-01-06 Thread u...@netic.de
On 16.04.3 I used Synaptic to narrow down the packages that seem to cause the
crash.
I installed packages, made not of them and rebooted to see if I could reproduce
the problem.

The last four packages that were left over before the issue could be reproduced
were:
libegl1-mesa 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2
libgbm1 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2
libgl1-mesa-dri 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2
libwayland-egl1-mesa 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2

These depend on each other, so I could not drill down further.
After installing these and rebooting, Unity crashed again.

nothing happens. Alt+Super+S only works after you click "Try Ubuntu".

I am running Ubuntu Bionic amd64 on Virtualbox

The file /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log will contain information about
the version of ubuntu-release-upgrader you were using.
