It looks like this change caused it, this also seems to cause a null ptr error
on startup, which I thought was unrelated.

We now first try to call ->eh_abort_handler from a work queue, but libsas

[Bug 1692476] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2018-01-22 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From magad...@in.ibm.com 2018-01-23 02:23 EDT---
Have listed below, the configuration part and the list of test scenarios for
the validation of this feature:

Configuration

Physical connections:

ROCE: ensure two ports of each ROCE cards are plugged into ROCE switch.

If there are no free ports available on switch you can get the
connections directly i.e back to back

Below packages need to be installed for travis3EN/travisEN's ROCE tests.

#yum install libibverbs-utils.ppc64
#yum install librdmacm-utils.ppc64
#yum install libmlx4
#yum install librdmacm-utils
#yum install librdmacm
#yum install librdmacm-utils
#yum install libibverbs
#yum install infiniband-diags
#yum install opensm

Ensure the below drivers are loaded prior to tests.

# modprobe ib_uverbs
# modprobe ib_ucm
# modprobe ib_cm
# modprobe ib_mad
# modprobe ib_sa
# modprobe ib_umad
# modprobe ib_addr
# modprobe rdma_cm
# modprobe rdma_ucm
# modprobe ib_core
If using travis IB, the below additional driver needs to be loaded.
#modprobe ib_ipoib

Start the services:
#service opensm start

Test Scenarios:
===

1. rping :
This covers RDMA_CM RC connections, but only userspace
(It establishes a set of reliable RDMA connections between two nodes using the
librdmacm, optionally transfers data between the nodes, then disconnects).

2. Udaday:
This covers RDMA_CM UD connections.
(It establishes a set of unreliable RDMA datagram communication paths between
two nodes using the librdmacm,
optionally transfers datagrams between the nodes, then tears down the
communication)

3. rdma_server, rdma_client commands:
These commands are simple RDMA CM connection and ping-pong test
(It uses synchronous librdmam calls to establish an RDMA connections between
two nodes).

4. ib_send_bw :
performance test

5. ucmatose:
This covers RDMA_CM RC connections, but only userspace (same as rping)
(It establishes a set of reliable RDMA connections between two nodes using the
librdmacm, optionally transfers data between the nodes, then disconnects).

6. krping :
The krping module is a kernel loadable module that utilizes the Open Fabrics
verbs to implement a client/server ping/pong program.

7. ibv_uc_pingpong :
This command runs a simple ping-pong test. need to use -g option.
The command is a client-server, in that a remote node is configured as a
server, while a local node performs as a client.

8. ibv_rc_pingpong :
Run a simple ping-pong test via the reliable connected (RC) transport. need to
use -g option.
The command is a client-server, in that a remote node is configured as a
server, while a local node performs as a client.

9. ibv_srq_pingpong :
This command runs a simple ping-pong test through the Reliable Connection
transport, using multiple queue pairs and the single Shared Receive Queue.
The command is a client-server, in that a remote node is configured as a
server, while a local node performs as a client

10. mckey :
Ping should happen successfully between client and server.

11. ibv_ud_pingpong :
Conducts a simple Unreliable Datagram transport test.

12. ucamatose :
Establishes a set of reliable RDMA connections between two nodes using the
librdmacm, optionally transfers data between the nodes, then disconnects.

13. ib_send_lat, ib_write_lat, ib_read_lat - latency test:
This software command performs a latency diagnostic between two nodes
Optionally, you can set the connection between the nodes to use Reliable
Connection, Unreliable Connection, or Unreliable Datagram transport.

14. ib_send_bw, ib_write_bw, ib_read_bw - bandwidth tests :
This software command performs a bandwidth diagnostic between two nodes.

Reviews comments are welcome.
Thanks.

[Bug 1719579] Re: [Ubuntu 16.04.2] [libvirt] virsh restore fails from state file saved in /var/tmp folder using virsh save

2018-01-22 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Manoj,
my intention was (unless discussed and outlined to be important to do it
otherwise):

18.04 - integrate the upstream changes so that --bypass-cache works

16.04 users using cloud-archive queens will have the same feature

16.04-17.10 and anyone not using bypass-cache will stay as-is I had not planned
to backport the code so far.
I haven't checked yet, but assuming the time delta the backport could cause
more
issues than it solves.
For the older releases I'd consider it a configuration issue.
If an admin chooses to use an uncommon path (like /var/tmp) then he has to
make
it allowed to be accessed in the apparmor profiles.

Get me right I use virsh save/restore on a regular base and it works in
the paths that are open by default, which are the places the images
usually are from like /var/lib/libvirt/images/.

If that does not work that might be a modified apparmor rule, but for
that I'd need to know way more about the case and see if it is actually
a bug or really just using an uncommon dir.

If you want to look into potential config issues, remove the silent denies to
/var and /var temp at the end of "/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu".
Then run your case again, report back with
a) commands to trigger the issue
b) dmesg while that occurred

None of the latter is needed to get it fixed in 18.04 where I'll make
bypass-cache work as suggested by IBM by picking the code changes.

[Bug 1744873] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.103 stable release

2018-01-22 Thread Khaled El Mously
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.103 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.4.103 stable release shall be
applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1744871] [NEW] Watch directory feature produces 'torrent file contains invalid data' error

2018-01-22 Thread Volodya
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1: Download a torrent file (i used the file from https://xubuntu.org/download
to test)
2: Add it manually to Transmission
3: Everything works fine
4: In preferences set up a directory in the 'Automatically add .torrent files
from:' setting
5: Place that very same file in the directory you have selected
6: Note the error message

What i expect to happen:
The torrent file should be added to the download and start downloading
normally. No difference between adding manually and automatically should be
there.

[Bug 1744758] Re: libvirt 2.5.0-3ubuntu5.6~cloud0 appears to be compiled without gnutls

2018-01-22 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
first of all thanks Lee for the update and your help to spot and fix another
issue.

So this is 2.5 which was based on the version in Zesty IIRC.
There are no build logs anymore as zesty is out of support already.

So I checked the others first.
Xenial (1.3.1):
checking for GNUTLS... yes
checking for gnutls/crypto.h... yes
configure: gnutls: -I/usr/include/p11-kit-1 -lgnutls

Artful (3.6):
checking for GNUTLS... yes
checking for gnutls/crypto.h... yes
checking for gnutls_rnd... yes
checking for gnutls_cipher_encrypt... yes
configure: gnutls: yes (CFLAGS='-I/usr/include/p11-kit-1' LIBS='-lgnutls')

Ok, good on those two.
So I really need to dig towards the 2.5 version
IIRC there was a bug in gnutls which broke libvirt completely
2.1.0-1ubuntu12 fixed the related FTBFS
2.1.0-1ubuntu13 then depended on the newer fixed gnutls
2.5.0-3ubuntu5.6 is the last of these zesty builds in the main archive
Zesty (2.5):
checking for GNUTLS... yes
checking for gnutls/crypto.h... yes
checking for gnutls_rnd... yes
checking for gnutls_cipher_encrypt... yes
configure: gnutls: yes (CFLAGS='-I/usr/include/p11-kit-1' LIBS='-lgnutls')

But knowing that there was an issue in gnutls causing a FTBFS in libvirt, and
that it relied on a newer gnutls might imply that on the cloud archive build
this was reverted/dropped - as it most likely has to build against the Xenial
version of the lib.

So I checked the cluod-archive build of 2.5.0-3ubuntu5.6~cloud0 at:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-cloud-archive/+archive/ubuntu/ocata-staging/+packages
But that has it as well:
checking for GNUTLS... yes
checking for gnutls/crypto.h... yes
checking for gnutls_rnd... yes
checking for gnutls_cipher_encrypt... yes
configure: gnutls: yes (CFLAGS='-I/usr/include/p11-kit-1' LIBS='-lgnutls')

hmm ...?

[Bug 1744870] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.102 stable release

2018-01-22 Thread Khaled El Mously
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.102 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.4.102 stable release shall be applied:
* mm, hwpoison: fixup "mm: check the return value of lookup_page_ext for all
call sites"
* Linux 4.4.102

[Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows

2018-01-22 Thread Greg
I'm having these exact symptoms on 17.10, all the time. I can only go a
few minutes without triggering this bug.

Thinkpad X1 Tablet, clean install of 17.10, happens in both X and
Wayland sessions.

(In fact I can't click the "post comment" button, and have to hit tab,
enter to post the comment!)

[Bug 1744794] Re: Xenial update to 4.4.101 stable release

2018-01-22 Thread Khaled El Mously
The following patch was NOT applied:

 * nvme: Fix memory order on async queue deletion

The reason is that this patch fixes a race condition in function
async_completion() in drivers/nvme/host/pci.c . However, this function had been
removed entirely in commit c33e9323c87556f335378113837cab4aab7d8a85 as part of
http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1531539

Therefore I believe that patch is no longer necessary for Xenial and so I
skipped it.

[Bug 1744072] Re: MIR Chrony in 18.04

2018-01-22 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
** Description changed:

  --- MIR ---

  1. Availability: The package is Ubuntu universe and builds for the
architectures it is designed to work on.

  2. Rationale:
- 2.1 NTP in general is needed quite a lot, but we want to exchange ntpd
- which is the current implementation in main with chrony for 18.04.
- 2.2 Security: chrony was considered easier to be maintained easier in
- terms of security and provide a more modern ntp experience as well.
- 2.3 Efficiency: Furthermore several cloud people seem to be interested to
- change to chrony in the guests for its lower memoy/cpu footprint
- (efficiency I guess).

2.4 related to this MIR 6 years ago this is the same but for Fedora.
- See: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/ChronyDefaultNTP
- IIRC some limitations that were present have been eliminated since, so
- it is even better than it was back then.
- 2.5 In general one has to realize that in a systemd-timesync world
- ntp/chrony are mostly for the "serving" portion of an ntp service, and
- not so much about the client (unless you the better accuracy vs
- timesyncd is needed).

  3. Security: In fact the request came in by security Team, so I guess I
  call this section done

-- EVERYTHING BELOW TBD FOR NOW --

  3. Quality assurance
3.1 configuration ease - works after installation
   3.2 no high prio debconf
3.3 usability (no major issues in Debian nor Ubuntu)
asked Paul in regard to the ntp charm in comment #5
3.4 long-term >=high bugs (none in Debian nor Ubuntu)
3.5 Debian/Ubuntu bugs look reasonable maintained
3.6 does not deal with hard to support exotic hardware (other than ntpd
btw). If used this can be done through universe package GPSD (no
   dependency)
3.7 Test suite runs on build (some skipped if not env applicable)
   3.8 debian/watch exists
3.9 not depending on obsoleted packages

4.1 It does not face graphical UI
4.2 It is unfortunately not internationalized as far as I could see in the
source

  5. Dependencies - there is one not in main libtomcrypt
We don't want it in main either, instead we want to fix bug 1744328 and
then use libnss which is in main already.

  6. Not found major Policy or FSH violations that would have to be fixed.

  7. Maintenance
7.1 Upstream - is maintained well (and better than ntpd it seems
     according to some discussisons)
7.2 Ubuntu - Owning Team would be Ubuntu (in exchange to drop ntp)

  8. Background information:
Fulfills the same role as ntp, yet according to the security Team would
    be preferred for them.

  --- Affected Packages ---

I'll add all those as bug tasks.
Once the MIR has passed the state of uncertainty (e.g. would it be blocked by
one of the dependent bug being not doable at all) then please work on these
into 18.04. Here a list what is affected in the listed packages:

Maas - needs to change dependencies and maybe template
cloud-init - needs to support writing ntp config to chrony instead of ntpd
ceph-base - change recommends from ntpd to chrony (it only intends to get
good time and doesn't care via which dameon that is, so that should be ok to be
change)
ntp charm - switch to chrony for >=18.04
chrony - MIR itself (discussion here and eventually seeding)

--- Depending on further Bugs ---
In my initial evaluation I uncovered (and filed) a set of bugs that I
consider requirement to make it fully ready:
Reminder - tracking state here might be out of sync, I'll only change them to
Done once complete and not care about interim status changes.

OPEN - bug 1718227 - convert ifup hooks to networkd compatible hooks
- OPEN - bug 1744662 - add chrony apparmor profile
+ DONE - bug 1744662 - add chrony apparmor profile
  OPEN - bug 1744328 - make src:libnss libfreebl3 usable by other programs
OPEN - bug 1744664 - use Ubuntu time servers

[Bug 1682637] Re: during recovery mode, enable network failed due to /etc/resolv.conf not being present

2018-01-22 Thread Woodrow Shen
My understanding is recovery-mode should do a task to update its resolv.conf
when "Enable networking" option was chosen,
just like normal boot will trigger resolvconf service to update resolv.conf (so
/sbin/resolvconf calls /etc/resolvconf/update.d/libc).
What I patch the friendly-recovery is just to add one line, see the patch I
attached.

[Bug 1712089] Re: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyUnable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

2018-01-22 Thread Mark
@PeterPall, why did you make bug #1551951 a duplicate of this bug? See
comments 7 & 8 in bug #1551951 for explanation of why I separated all
the Synaptic bugs from this bug in the first place.

This bug is a generic bug stating that graphical suid applications do
not work on Wayland. This is *by design* therefore this bug will almost
certainly be closed WONTFIX. The correct fix is for each application to
be modified to not run its GUI as root and to use polkit to elevate
privileges when it needs to write to files. Therefore there needs to be
a bug for each app that can be tracked until the app is fixed. A single
bug for all these apps will make managing the fixes very difficult.

Please undo what you did and make all the Synaptic bug reports separate
again.

[Bug 1744853] [NEW] 17.10.1 Cannot boot USB or CDROM or enter Bios

2018-01-22 Thread Lars Pedersen
Public bug reported:

I have an ACER V5-571G-53314G75Makk, SSID:23302770966

Installed Ubuntu 17.10.1 yesterday and can longer boot into USB or
CDROM. Cannot access BIOS(Phoenix) via F2.

Ubuntu boots fine and works.

I have followed the steps above in #1734147, installing both kernel
versions and the BIOS has NOT recovered. I still cannot enter BIOS on
this machine.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Dot One doesn't even load the module that caused this problem. That said, this
should be a different bug. Please file a separate one. Thanks!

[Bug 1744849] [NEW] gnome-shell segfault in libgobject-2.0 g_type_check_instance_cast

2018-01-22 Thread fermulator
Public bug reported:

{{{
[13704.632087] gnome-shell[9051]: segfault at 82 ip 7f3e7e900de2 sp
7fff6078c200 error 4 in libgobject-2.0.so.0.5400.1[7f3e7e8cb000+52000]
}}}

Stack trace is roughly:
 * g_type_check_instance_cast() at libgobject-2.0.so.0
 * st_label_set_text() at libst-1.0.so
 ...

My setup:
 * dual monitors
 * multiple local users
 * often 2x users logged in at same time
 * flip between them using PTY (CTRL+ALT+ F2, F3, etc.)
 * CTRL+ALT+F1 gets us to the gdm login screen (user selection)

What happens:
 * eventually either by timeout (or after suspend), or manual lock screen
 * user hits CTRL+ALT+F2,3,X, to access their PTY
 * screen may or may not be locked; (user logs in)
 * user hits "ALT+F2", and types "r" +  (gnome-shell --replace)

Reproducibility:
 * happened a few times since upgrade to Ubuntu 17.10
 * happened immediately after running "r"

Issue Analysis:
 * none - need guidance on how to debug/isolate next time it happens

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2018-01-22 Thread Lars Pedersen
I have an ACER V5-571G-53314G75Makk, SSID:23302770966

Installed Ubuntu 17.10.1 yesterday and can longer boot into USB or
CDROM. Cannot access BIOS(Phoenix) via F2.

Ubuntu boots fine and works.

I have followed the steps above, installing both kernel versions and the
BIOS has NOT recovered. I still cannot enter BIOS on this machine.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

[Bug 1744840] Re: cant install

2018-01-22 Thread Simon Quigley
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 1720901] Re: VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode

2018-01-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try the current deb version in Ubuntu 18.04 (
3.0.0~rc4-1ubuntu1).

If that works then the correct approach is for us to mark this as Fix
Released, but also nominate older versions of Ubuntu to receive a fix
later.

[Bug 1720901] Re: VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode

2018-01-22 Thread Simon P.
To clarify:

The bug was originally filed for vlc stable. It is still existent in
that stable version 2.2.6, which can be installed via apt-get.

In the current 3.0.0-rc7 snap it is fixed.

[Bug 1371274] Re: Unable to use the widevine plugin with Chromium

2018-01-22 Thread Richard Audette
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1652110 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1652110

I am using this PPA's Chromium-dev build (armhf,
63.0.3239.84-0ubuntu0.16.04.1)

And I am using the armhf libwidevine libraries that are working with
Netflix on a Pi 3 (which I took from https://github.com/kusti8/chromium-
build/releases/download/netflix-1.0.0/chromium-
browser_56.0.2924.84-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1011.deb ) - I believe these were
probably taken from an ARM Chromebook image.

So, I know it's possible to get Netflix working on armhf - but I'm using
a different board (this time, an ODroid XU4).

It's not critical - I'm just tinkering, and I've gone as far as I can
go.
