[Bug 1719579] Re: [Ubuntu 16.04.2] [libvirt] virsh restore fails from state file saved in /var/tmp folder using virsh save
Hi Manoj, my intention was (unless discussed and outlined to be important to do it otherwise): 18.04 - integrate the upstream changes so that --bypass-cache works 16.04 users using cloud-archive queens will have the same feature 16.04-17.10 and anyone not using bypass-cache will stay as-is I had not planned to backport the code so far. I haven't checked yet, but assuming the time delta the backport could cause more issues than it solves. For the older releases I'd consider it a configuration issue. If an admin chooses to use an uncommon path (like /var/tmp) then he has to make it allowed to be accessed in the apparmor profiles. Get me right I use virsh save/restore on a regular base and it works in the paths that are open by default, which are the places the images usually are from like /var/lib/libvirt/images/. If that does not work that might be a modified apparmor rule, but for that I'd need to know way more about the case and see if it is actually a bug or really just using an uncommon dir. If you want to look into potential config issues, remove the silent denies to /var and /var temp at the end of "/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu". Then run your case again, report back with a) commands to trigger the issue b) dmesg while that occurred None of the latter is needed to get it fixed in 18.04 where I'll make bypass-cache work as suggested by IBM by picking the code changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1719579 Title: [Ubuntu 16.04.2] [libvirt] virsh restore fails from state file saved in /var/tmp folder using virsh save To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-systems/+bug/1719579/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1744758] Re: libvirt 2.5.0-3ubuntu5.6~cloud0 appears to be compiled without gnutls
Hi, first of all thanks Lee for the update and your help to spot and fix another issue. So this is 2.5 which was based on the version in Zesty IIRC. There are no build logs anymore as zesty is out of support already. So I checked the others first. Xenial (1.3.1): checking for GNUTLS... yes checking for gnutls/crypto.h... yes configure: gnutls: -I/usr/include/p11-kit-1 -lgnutls Artful (3.6): checking for GNUTLS... yes checking for gnutls/crypto.h... yes checking for gnutls_rnd... yes checking for gnutls_cipher_encrypt... yes configure: gnutls: yes (CFLAGS='-I/usr/include/p11-kit-1' LIBS='-lgnutls') Ok, good on those two. So I really need to dig towards the 2.5 version IIRC there was a bug in gnutls which broke libvirt completely 2.1.0-1ubuntu12 fixed the related FTBFS 2.1.0-1ubuntu13 then depended on the newer fixed gnutls 2.5.0-3ubuntu5.6 is the last of these zesty builds in the main archive Zesty (2.5): checking for GNUTLS... yes checking for gnutls/crypto.h... yes checking for gnutls_rnd... yes checking for gnutls_cipher_encrypt... yes configure: gnutls: yes (CFLAGS='-I/usr/include/p11-kit-1' LIBS='-lgnutls') But knowing that there was an issue in gnutls causing a FTBFS in libvirt, and that it relied on a newer gnutls might imply that on the cloud archive build this was reverted/dropped - as it most likely has to build against the Xenial version of the lib. So I checked the cluod-archive build of 2.5.0-3ubuntu5.6~cloud0 at: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-cloud-archive/+archive/ubuntu/ocata-staging/+packages But that has it as well: checking for GNUTLS... yes checking for gnutls/crypto.h... yes checking for gnutls_rnd... yes checking for gnutls_cipher_encrypt... yes configure: gnutls: yes (CFLAGS='-I/usr/include/p11-kit-1' LIBS='-lgnutls') hmm ...? ** Also affects: cloud-archive Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1744758 Title: libvirt 2.5.0-3ubuntu5.6~cloud0 appears to be compiled without gnutls To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-archive/+bug/1744758/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1744072] Re: MIR Chrony in 18.04
** Description changed: --- MIR --- 1. Availability: The package is Ubuntu universe and builds for the architectures it is designed to work on. 2. Rationale: - 2.1 NTP in general is needed quite a lot, but we want to exchange ntpd - which is the current implementation in main with chrony for 18.04. - 2.2 Security: chrony was considered easier to be maintained easier in - terms of security and provide a more modern ntp experience as well. - 2.3 Efficiency: Furthermore several cloud people seem to be interested to - change to chrony in the guests for its lower memoy/cpu footprint - (efficiency I guess). + 2.1 NTP in general is needed quite a lot, but we want to exchange ntpd + which is the current implementation in main with chrony for 18.04. + 2.2 Security: chrony was considered easier to be maintained easier in + terms of security and provide a more modern ntp experience as well. + 2.3 Efficiency: Furthermore several cloud people seem to be interested to + change to chrony in the guests for its lower memoy/cpu footprint + (efficiency I guess). 2.4 related to this MIR 6 years ago this is the same but for Fedora. - See: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/ChronyDefaultNTP - IIRC some limitations that were present have been eliminated since, so - it is even better than it was back then. - 2.5 In general one has to realize that in a systemd-timesync world - ntp/chrony are mostly for the "serving" portion of an ntp service, and - not so much about the client (unless you the better accuracy vs - timesyncd is needed). + See: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/ChronyDefaultNTP + IIRC some limitations that were present have been eliminated since, so + it is even better than it was back then. + 2.5 In general one has to realize that in a systemd-timesync world + ntp/chrony are mostly for the "serving" portion of an ntp service, and + not so much about the client (unless you the better accuracy vs + timesyncd is needed). 3. Security: In fact the request came in by security Team, so I guess I call this section done -- EVERYTHING BELOW TBD FOR NOW -- 3. Quality assurance 3.1 configuration ease - works after installation 3.2 no high prio debconf 3.3 usability (no major issues in Debian nor Ubuntu) asked Paul in regard to the ntp charm in comment #5 3.4 long-term >=high bugs (none in Debian nor Ubuntu) 3.5 Debian/Ubuntu bugs look reasonable maintained 3.6 does not deal with hard to support exotic hardware (other than ntpd btw). If used this can be done through universe package GPSD (no dependency) 3.7 Test suite runs on build (some skipped if not env applicable) 3.8 debian/watch exists 3.9 not depending on obsoleted packages 4.1 It does not face graphical UI 4.2 It is unfortunately not internationalized as far as I could see in the source 5. Dependencies - there is one not in main libtomcrypt We don't want it in main either, instead we want to fix bug 1744328 and then use libnss which is in main already. 6. Not found major Policy or FSH violations that would have to be fixed. 7. Maintenance 7.1 Upstream - is maintained well (and better than ntpd it seems according to some discussisons) 7.2 Ubuntu - Owning Team would be Ubuntu (in exchange to drop ntp) 8. Background information: Fulfills the same role as ntp, yet according to the security Team would be preferred for them. --- Affected Packages --- I'll add all those as bug tasks. Once the MIR has passed the state of uncertainty (e.g. would it be blocked by one of the dependent bug being not doable at all) then please work on these into 18.04. Here a list what is affected in the listed packages: Maas - needs to change dependencies and maybe template cloud-init - needs to support writing ntp config to chrony instead of ntpd ceph-base - change recommends from ntpd to chrony (it only intends to get good time and doesn't care via which dameon that is, so that should be ok to be change) ntp charm - switch to chrony for >=18.04 chrony - MIR itself (discussion here and eventually seeding) --- Depending on further Bugs --- In my initial evaluation I uncovered (and filed) a set of bugs that I consider requirement to make it fully ready: Reminder - tracking state here might be out of sync, I'll only change them to Done once complete and not care about interim status changes. OPEN - bug 1718227 - convert ifup hooks to networkd compatible hooks - OPEN - bug 1744662 - add chrony apparmor profile + DONE - bug 1744662 - add chrony apparmor profile OPEN - bug 1744328 - make src:libnss libfreebl3 usable by other programs OPEN - bug 1744664 - use Ubuntu time servers -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1712089] Re: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyUnable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused
@PeterPall, why did you make bug #1551951 a duplicate of this bug? See comments 7 & 8 in bug #1551951 for explanation of why I separated all the Synaptic bugs from this bug in the first place. This bug is a generic bug stating that graphical suid applications do not work on Wayland. This is *by design* therefore this bug will almost certainly be closed WONTFIX. The correct fix is for each application to be modified to not run its GUI as root and to use polkit to elevate privileges when it needs to write to files. Therefore there needs to be a bug for each app that can be tracked until the app is fixed. A single bug for all these apps will make managing the fixes very difficult. Please undo what you did and make all the Synaptic bug reports separate again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1712089 Title: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyUnable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/update-manager/+bug/1712089/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1744853 Title: 17.10.1 Cannot boot USB or CDROM or enter Bios To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1744853/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1744840] Re: cant install
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
