[Bug 1760621] Re: Tab freezes when I exit the shell

2019-11-15 Thread Robert Matusewicz
Hi, Linux Uprising has a PPA for Guake and it serves 3.6.3 which have
this issue fixed. https://www.linuxuprising.com/2019/05/new-guake-drop-
down-terminal-ppa-ubuntu.html

Also, if anyone is able to help me with rebuilding and re-uploading the
package, I can do it. I just have a problem with finding any page that
describes the process.

[Bug 1852783] Re: installer crassh

2019-11-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1852837] [NEW] Ubuntu 19.10 boots into blinking underscore when manually restart, not even grub shows up!

2019-11-15 Thread Daniel
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I didn't exactly know which category to slected during bug report
submission, but after I updated my Ubuntu 19.10 installation yesterday,
whenever I press restart either through gui or terminal the system boot
into blinking underscore immediately after bios post screen. Not even
grub menu shows up.

I have to shutdown the system, then turn it on again to fix the problem.
The system boot normally from a shutdown.

I have already tried clean installing Ubuntu 19.10 but the problem returned
after installing the updates by executing sudo apt upgrade command!
I guess this issue happens after upgrading the linux-firmware package to the
latest 1.183.2 version.

[Bug 1846181] Re: [SRU] 2.42.1

2019-11-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Michael, or anyone else affected,

Accepted snapd into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/2.42.1+18.04 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1846181] Re: [SRU] 2.42.1

2019-11-15 Thread Michael Vogt
** Description changed:

This is a new version of snapd.

  The changelog is available here

https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/2.42.1/packaging/ubuntu-16.04/changelog,
the raw git changelog is available here:
  https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commits/2.42.1 (note that the debian
changelog is auto-generated from the merges of the git commits so there
is usually no need to look at the raw git commits).

The travis logs for 2.42.1 can be found here: https://travis-
  ci.org/snapcore/snapd/branches

The snappy team released a new release that we want SRU into xenial. The
new process described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdUpdates was used
and we have done integration-tests on the snappy images, autopkgtests on
  classic and unit tests.

  TEST CASE (packaging changes):
  1. install "old" snapd
  2. create /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine
  3. install the snapd from *-proposed
  4. verify that /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine got renamed to
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine.dpkg-bak
+
+
+ TEST CASE (systemd generator):
+ 1. install the new snapd
+ 2. reboot
+ 3. check that PATH contains /usr/local/bin *and* /snap/bin
+
+ The systemd generator is re-enabled in the following PR:
+ This is (spread) tested in
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/2.42.1/tests/main/snap-system-env/task.yaml#L17
 - i.e. we ensure the full PATH including local is available and works.

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2019-11-15 Thread Jeremy Nelson
#26 worked for me, although possibly in an unexpected way.

gnome settings -> region and there, click on “manage installed
languages” then changed “keyboard input method system” to none instead
of ibus. Logout and login.

...When I clicked on “manage installed languages” it said this wasn't
fully installed. I completed the install, then I used alt-F2 and 'r'
to restart the window manager. And woo! It worked (And
critically no logout-login or restart required.)

I too have been seeing this issue on my Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS installation
and after living with it for a long long time, decided to hunt down
reports of others with the issue. As I now see, it is a known issue.
That sort of made me feel better - specifically that misery loves
company - :(.

Here is how I can reliably reproduce this issue on my system:

Configure at least 2 workspaces:
On the left workspace, open an application - say Chrome
On the right workspace I have Firefox

If I switch between workspaces using keyboard shortcuts, the right-click
context menu on Firefox continues to function as expected. Also, if I
click the Workspace Switcher in launcher and select the different
workspaces, again Firefox context menu functions as expected.

However, if I click the Chrome icon in the launcher and then click the
Firefox icon (in essence I'm switching workspaces indirectly), the
Firefox context menu appears at random locations - mainly along the
edges of the screen - I am yet to see it appear in a random location
away from screen edges (see attached screenshot).

I have noticed there are several ways to restore the placement of the context
menu:
  * Middle-click the title bar (or the panel if Firefox is maximized)
  * Switch to another application running in the same workspace and return to
Firefox
  * Move the Firefox window
  * Resize the Firefox window

There could be other ways to restore the context menu, but the few I
mention above work reliably in my environment.

I'm hoping that when I migrate to Ubuntu 20.04 next year the issue will
have been resolved.

[Bug 1852831] Re: Install grub on /dev/sda failed during Ubuntu installation

2019-11-15 Thread Cledson Cavalcanti
This already had happened years ago when I tried to install Ubuntu without
disconnecting from internet.
At least for me, this bug seems to occur when Linux kernel upgrades during
installation, because when I disabled my WiFi that time, the installation was
succeed.
I'll try to install again with WiFi turned off.

[Bug 1852794] Re: Dell PowerEdge R630 won't boot with 4.4.0-168.197 and later

2019-11-15 Thread Khaled El Mously
Thanks for the info @Björn

I have a couple of initial questions

1) When you say "One of our Dell R630 machines in our CI environment
won't boot with the 4.4.0-168.197 kernel in xenial." , does this mean
that you have other Dell R360 machines that *do* boot with the new
xenial kernels?

2) Can you clarify what you mean by "I also tried installing xenial on
the machine, and the same happens with grub. No output in the console
after selecting the kernel in the grub menu, it just reboots." ? How is
"installing xenial" different from what you were doing prior to that? Is
it a matter of booting from a live-usb vs booting from PXE ? If that's
the case, do you know what kernel this xenial image was using? Did the
live instance come up at all?

I think the easiest thing would be to try to bisect to find the offending
commit. Attempting to boot the 4.4.0-167.196 kernel is a good idea, to help us
know where to start bisection.

Thanks

[Bug 1827757] Re: PMF

2019-11-15 Thread intel
A better workaround solution to this problem is the systemd
wpa_supplicant.service override.
This is better than messing with broken packages and versions.

Here is my systemd override.conf (you can apply it with `systemctl edit
wpa_supplicant`):

[Service]
Environment="LD_PRELOAD=/path_to_wpa_bundle_dir/libm.so.6"
ExecStart=
ExecStart=/path_to_wpa_bundle_dir/wpa_supplicant -u -s -O /run/wpa_supplicant

is just a custom folder that consists of
wpa_supplicant binary from package wpasupplicant_2.9-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb +
libm-2.30.so from package libc6_2.30-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb and libm.so.6 which is
a symlink to the libm-2.30.so in the same folder.

choice), that would be helpful.

[Bug 1851340] Re: Ubuntu 19.10 upgrade results in invisible mouse cursor

2019-11-15 Thread Gary Wright II
Seeing same problem on my xubuntu machine after upgrade to 19.10. I
tried different GDM's (xubuntu, gnome, xfce) and tried different themes
(default, Adwaita, Breeze, DMZ). I have basic Intel graphics card with
minimal capabilities, and machine is used in production so I'm unable to
experiment much further. Logitech trackball mouse. I don't see anything
obvious in logs. Everything was working properly prior to upgrade. I'm
able to use the mouse to select and click, just no cursor is being
display so it's hard to see where the pointer is located. I'm assuming
this problem is related to this bug.

[Bug 1848797] Re: After upgrading to 19.10, boot screen shows: "Error: symbol 'grub_file_filters' not found."

2019-11-15 Thread Daniel Pontillo
I too had this issue today. My system is relatively simple:
1) I am using LVM
2) I was running 19.04
3) I was using an nvme drive (NOT /dev/sda as it likely expected)
4) To fix it I used the chroot method outlined on the Wiki, running both
'grub-install' and 'grub-update'

System is a brand new, never previously been upgraded 19.04 system with
only this one drive and OS installed (no dual-boot). AMD Ryzen hardware
12-core, with a pcie nvme boot drive.

Think that's all I have for info to report... not the end of the world,
but scary when you can no longer ssh into your server. :)

[Bug 1852826] [NEW] lm-sensors confused about k10temp

2019-11-15 Thread BertN45
Public bug reported:

Running sensors-detect, k10temp has been detected, but is indicated as

Running sensors it is not displayed, so it is missing, resulting in a mess in

displayed, but both run version 3.5.0 of sensors. So there is something else in

Perhaps the cause is a secondary library or dependency that iso9660.mod is

[Bug 1751379] Re: libreswan unconfigures vti interfaces in temporary network outage

2019-11-15 Thread Joel N. Weber II
Because Debian 10 seems to have a more robust security update policy for
the libreswan package than Ubuntu does, I've moved this functionality
from Ubuntu to Debian 10, and I believe I got a newer version of
libreswan in the process.

On Debian 10, the cron job to check birdc's output for BGP session
status and run ipsec auto --down [tunnelname], sleep 10, and ipsec auto
--up [tunnelname] when the BGP session isn't ESTABLISHED still seems to
be needed, but the default supplied leftupdown script seems to work fine
unmodified.
