[Bug 1862121] [NEW] Allow to reset an opencapi adapter

2020-02-05 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

== Comment: #0 - Frederic Barrat  - 2020-01-27

---Problem Description---
We've added code in firmware to allow to reset an opencapi adapter on a powerpc
system, and retrain the opencapi link.

On linux, resetting the opencapi link is re-using the existing PCI hotplug
framework, but there's a bit of enablement code missing and we'd like to add it
to Ubuntu 20.04 since it's a LTS release.

The linux code in question has been on the mailing list for a while and is
expected to be merged in the 5.6 merge window opening today.
Here is a link to the patches on the mailing list. I'll post the official
commit IDs once they are known.

http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/linuxppc-dev/list/?series=144336

Once merged upstream, is it possible to add them to the 20.04 kernel? Of
course, I'll handle the backport if it's needed.

== Comment: #3 - Frederic Barrat  - 2020-01-30
02:51:05 ==
The patches have been merged in the powerpc maintainer's 'next' tree and will
be in kernel 5.6 and now have official commit IDs:
05dd7da76986 powerpc/powernv/ioda: Fix ref count for devices with their own PE
80f1ff83fa11 powerpc/powernv/ioda: Protect PE list
c1a2feade085 powerpc/powernv/ioda: set up PE on opencapi device when enabling
f724385fea01 powerpc/powernv/ioda: Release opencapi device
bbb789046084 powerpc/powernv/ioda: Find opencapi slot for a device node
658ab186dd22 pci/hotplug/pnv-php: Remove erroneous warning
323c2a26ff43 pci/hotplug/pnv-php: Improve error msg on power state change
failure
ea53919b15bf pci/hotplug/pnv-php: Register opencapi slots
be1611e043de pci/hotplug/pnv-php: Relax check when disabling slot
748ac391ab9a pci/hotplug/pnv-php: Wrap warnings in macro
49ce94b8677c ocxl: Add PCI hotplug dependency to Kconfig

They apply cleanly on kernel v5.4 and v5.5, starting from the bottom.

They impact powerpc-only code and even more specifically the powernv platform.
The PCI hotplug module modifications for powernv are to make the hotplug driver
aware of the new opencapi slots.
The "ioda" modifications are to manage the state of opencapi devices properly,
since they can now be destroyed and recreated when the opencapi link is reset.

Could the patches be added to the kernel which will be used for Ubuntu 20.04?
Thanks

The executable issue mentioned in comment #8 will be addressed with
another patch.

The patch itself is working as expected (if you do a manual chmod it
will work), therefore I will mark this as verification done.

2020-02-05 Thread Marcus Tomlinson
Hi Wladimir, thank you for confirming that this is resolved on 6.3.4.
Considering how rare a scenario this is, I’m going to say it’s not worth
an SRU to 18.04.

For those experiencing minor issues such as this on earlier versions of
Ubuntu, I recommend installing the LibreOffice snap. It’s not only up to
date but officially supported as well.

snap install libreoffice
snap run libreoffice

1. Use the monitor as only display. When watching movies, or sometimes when
working.
2. Use the monitor as primary display and the laptop monitor as secondary
display.

Now this works nearly perfectly using the display manager except for one
thing. Every time I switch back from only using the monitor (laptop
display disabled) to using the laptop display as a second screen – I
need to rearrange the displays. By default they are side-by-side but I
always want the monitor above the laptop display.

Especially since the resolution and everything else (like using the
monitor as primary display when it’s plugged in) is already remembered,
it would be cool if the layout can also be remembered.

But in your case, we wouldn't know whether you're modifying the current
configuration, or creating a new one.

The only thing I would guess is that mutter (which loads and saves the
configuration) doesn't remember the position of the display you turn
off, dropping it from the configuration. It should probably include it
in the ~/.config/monitors.xml file, with its previous position, even if
disabled.

That way, re-enabling it would pop it back in the same location.

Yep, it seems to drop the position. Because when I switch from:
Monitor primary, laptop secondary
to
Monitor secondary, laptop primary
the configuration is properly remembered. That is, the external monitor is
always correctly above the laptop.

It’s just when switching to »Mirror« or »Off« and then back to one of
Primary/Secondary that the positioning is reset.

So basically yes, it would be good if the last used positioning could
not only be remembered when switching between the two/multiple-screen
setups, but also when there’s only a one-screen setup so that it’s
properly restored when switching back to the multiple-screen one.

Thanks!

[Bug 1853102] Re: Update Vulkan loader in bionic to version 1.1.121

2020-02-05 Thread Sai Kiran Korwar
Hi all,

Vulkan 1.2 has been released in Jan 2020. So, we would need to update to
the 1.2.132 loader which is the latest release.

I have modified the bug and description accordingly.

Is there any chance of this bug being taken up?

Thanks,
-Sai

[Bug 1103043] Re: AppArmor won't let DHCP server write to file

2020-02-05 Thread jwiegley
No, not fixed. Comment #15 is an example of the problem still. It's 5
years later. Infiniband IPoIB causes this same problem even with the
"fix". 'rmmod ib_ipoib' allows dhcp to start. Having the module loaded
and the interface configured prevents dhcpd from starting due to
apparmor.

Found a user who compiled his kernel with ALC294 patch and seems to have
gotten his sound working.

His system is the ASUS UX362FA, running Realtek ALC298 (Device: pci

[Bug 1862112] Re: apparmor prevents DHCP from starting with IPoIB interface

2020-02-05 Thread Alex Murray
Can you try adding the following to
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.dhcpd:

  network packet dgram,

And then running

sudo apparmor_parser -rT /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.dhcpd

And see if restart dhcpd then works?

[Bug 1862112] [NEW] apparmor prevents DHCP from starting with IPoIB interface

2020-02-05 Thread jwiegley
Public bug reported:

# lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Focal Fossa (development branch)
Release:20.04

# apt-cache policy isc-dhcp-server
isc-dhcp-server:
  Installed: 4.4.1-2ubuntu6
  Candidate: 4.4.1-2ubuntu6
  Version table:
 *** 4.4.1-2ubuntu6 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I expect isc-dhcp-server to start.
It does not because apparmor blocks something related to having an ib_ipoib
interface present.

I have infiniband interfaces using IPoIB. This prevents DHCP from
starting because apparmor DENIES something.

[Bug 1860642] Re: [Dell Vostro 5490] proposed linux-oem-osp1 suspend resume fails

2020-02-05 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
Both Dell Vostro systems (CID 201906-27089 and CID 201906-27090) are
equipped with Intel CML QS CPUs. If possible, please use the CID
201910-27452, which comes with a MP CPU for a re-test, since all the
newer SOF firmware we received from Intel was verified against the MP
CPU.

[Bug 1800719] Re: missing conf files noted on apt upgrade after distribution upgrade

2020-02-05 Thread Mike Bruins
I believe I also have this issue.

I see the issue each time I run "apt upgrade".

The symlink chain goes to a real file. If you cat the contents of the symlink
you do
see the file's ascii contents, which is a directory.

That directory also exists, and has files.

I'm not sure if it is related but my /boot directory is full of old kernels
that keep
being regenerated. These kernels are not installed according to package
management.

[Bug 1861912] Re: file system creation in partition failed in auto-resize install 18.04.4

2020-02-05 Thread Dan Simmons
On a drive where sufficient free space was left (30GB free/ 120GB total)
I was able to complete the install alongside method. The free space on
my USB install media was only 12GB. My thoughts here; the bug is a lack
of a graceful warning/exit when there is insufficient (greater on the
HD) space.

[Bug 1862081] Re: xorg resizes framebuffer when playing fullscreen video over and over again

2020-02-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. I think this is related to a family of
scaling bugs in gnome-shell I've only discovered recently:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/1004
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/849

Those are not this bug, but I think it's related whereby display scaling
is confusing mutter/gnome-shell into creating textures of the wrong
size.

[Bug 1862037] Re: screen is blinking when i log off and log in and also when i change resolution setting of display

2020-02-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. I can see two separate problems in the
attached files:

--

(1) Connector 86 (the internal laptop screen) is being detected as
unplugged over and over again. This might be a hardware fault or it
might be a kernel bug:

[ 5631.614] (WW) modeset(0): hotplug event: connector 86's link-state
is BAD, tried resetting the current mode. You may be leftwith a black
screen if this fails...

--

(2) PCI device :00:1c.0 is experiencing repeated kernel errors:

[ 144.295893] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER: Corrected error received:
:00:1c.0
[ 144.295900] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected,
type=Physical Layer, (Receiver ID)
[ 144.295905] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER: device [8086:9d14] error
status/mask=0001/2000
[ 144.295908] pcieport :00:1c.0: AER:[ 0] RxErr

That device is the motherboard's "Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP PCI
Express Root Port #5". So that sounds like another hardware fault.

2020-02-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
There's a slight chance these are both kernel bugs, but I think more
likely the laptop has some real hardware faults. Please try a newer
kernel version:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.5.2/

or maybe easier; please try booting Ubuntu version 18.04 from USB:

  https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop

and tell us if it has similar issues.

[Bug 1827967] Re: There are 4 HDMI/Displayport audio output listed in sound setting without attach any HDMI/DP monitor

2020-02-05 Thread Richard Muller
Ok, I'm just a user and don't have access to that mailing list but what
I CAN say, is, that my affected system doesn't run radeon or nouveau
driver but amdgpu.

Takashi Iwai wrote in November 2019 'amdgpu driver already got the
audio-component binding recently, so this problem shouldn't be triggered'

I've no Idea what he exactly means with that because amdgpu driver with
recent ubuntu kernels from mid of January 2020 is definitely affected by
this issue.

In the other bugreport two users already tested your kernels and
provided some dmesg logs. So I think they would be happy to help you
with further investigations. I for my self didn't install any testing
kernels and also have no clue how to 'unload / reload the HD-audio
driver' as Takashi Iwai mentioned here: https://mailman.alsa-
project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2019-November/158707.html

So I think you should better place your call for help over there:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1834771

Thank you very much for your attention and sorry I couldn't be more
helpful ...

[Bug 1862094] [NEW] Typed text appears in Search box instead of Name box.

2020-02-05 Thread Clinton H
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 19.10
2) 3.34.0-1
3) Click the save button in Gedit. Click the "Documents" folder and then start
typing. The typed text should appear in the "Name" box. If the user clicks on a
folder, then the user knows where the file should be saved, without having to
search for the location.
4) The typed text appears in the "Search" box instead of the "Name" box. This
problem occurs with other applications.

[Bug 1853707] Re: Whole system stopped responding because of single program's fault - no way out, had to force power off

2020-02-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We do rely on bug reporters to help with triaging the bugs they open.
This is mostly because we do not have infinite resources to try and
reproduce everyone's bugs ourselves. And doing so would be unreliable
anyway, as we might hit slightly different issues and mistake them for
the original issue. We have hundreds of bug reports to deal with each
week -- there is not enough time to replicate them all.

Please follow the instructions in comment #2 as that will get this
closer to a resolution.

[Bug 1862092] [NEW] RM: pingus uses obsolete boost signals library

2020-02-05 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

RM: pingus uses obsolete boost signals library

Current development is on https://gitlab.com/pingus/pingus and that one
appears to build on Ubuntu, but has not had a release and has a few git
submodules (included copies of code).

The current version we carry is very old, with lots of development
happened upstream since.

Either a git snapshot needs to be packaged, or the game removed.

[Bug 1861991] Re: upgraded to focal yesterday, I've got no control panel, my theme is weird, and alt-tab isn't working

2020-02-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Good to hear.

The Mesa issue seems to have been resolved 12 hours ago.

The remaining Alt-Tab issue seems to be caused by your system settings:

b'org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings' b'switch-windows' b"['disabled']"
b'org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings' b'switch-windows-backward' b"['disabled']"

So you can fix that via the GUI in Settings > Devices > Keyboard
Shortcuts. Or use the 'gsettings' or 'dconf' commands.
