[Bug 1879231] [NEW] avahi dbus permissions for Ping method need updating
Public bug reported: I've been working on snapping an app (shairport-sync) that uses Avahi. Currently on startup it's logging the following in the system logs, and is not showing up in avahi-browse: type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589774287.950:1675435): pid=1759 uid=102 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="DENIED" operation="dbus_method_call" bus="system" path="/" interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer" member="Ping" mask="send" name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3965241 label="snap.shairport-sync .shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-daemon" exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?' I see the following in avahi_observe.go: dbus (receive) bus=system path=/ interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer member=Ping peer=(label=###PLUG_SECURITY_TAGS###), Other rules seem to be of this form: peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Avahi,label=###SLOT_SECURITY_TAGS###), and as you can see above the denied message has name="org.freedesktop.Avahi". As an experiment I reinstalled my snap in devmode and got the following: type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589775249.321:1676149): pid=1759 uid=102 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="ALLOWED" operation="dbus_method_call" bus="system" path="/" interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer" member="Ping" mask="send" name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3988011 label="snap.shairport-sync .shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-daemon" exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?' followed by lots of other happy-looking messages, e.g.: type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589775249.321:1676150): pid=1759 uid=102 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="ALLOWED" operation="dbus_method_call" bus="system" path="/" interface="org.freedesktop.Avahi.Server" member="GetAPIVersion" mask="send" name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3988011 label="snap .shairport-sync.shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi- daemon" exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?' and my machine appeared in avahi-browse and was visible to my other mDNS devices. Re: [Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)
If there is a possibility that copy-paste will result to an error, whole distro is useless for serious production use. It is really sad, testing this kind of bug is so uncertain and difficult. In my opinion programmer should be able to guarantee that such error can not take place. Otherwise there are something fundamentally wrong in design. Sorry, I am a big fan of Ubuntu and would like to see open source success in office environment, but this bug seems a show stopper for me if community is incapable of fixing it 100%. [Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)
Once again I am the original reporter - Daniel recently asked for my opinion about whether this bug has been fixed. I have now been running with the proposed 3.36.2-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 package for three days, during which I have done a fair amount of editing with copying and pasting. During that time I saw this copy/paste bug occur twice: once on 5/16 when I couldn't copy and paste from Epiphany (a web browser) to gedit, and once on 5/17 when I couldn't copy and paste from a LibreOffice Writer window into another LibreOffice Writer window. My opinion is that the proposed fix is a definite improvement, because I am sure that without it I would have seen more copy/paste failures these last few days. [Bug 1879229] [NEW] pulseaudio/audio-playback are difficult to use
Public bug reported: In order for a snap to successfully connect to PulseAudio, the following needs to be done: 1) request and connect one of pulseaudio or audio-playback (mentioned for completeness) 2) add ${SNAP}/usr/lib/$SNAPCRAFT_ARCH_TRIPLET/pulseaudio to LD_LIBRARY_PATH 3) point libpulse at the pulseaudio socket, e.g., in a wrapper: papath="$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/../pulse/native" if [ ! -e "$papath" ]; then echo "Cannot not find '$papath'" exit 1 fi export PULSE_SERVER="unix:$papath" (I got this from tests/lib/snaps/test-snapd-pulseaudio/files/bin/pawrap in the snapd source, which seems to imply this is how it's designed to work.) This results in a display that is too wide for the monitors that pans when I mouse toward the edges. xrandr is reporting that it's trying to make a display that is 3840x1440 (2560+1280) instead of 3584x1440 (2560+1024), so I assume something is doing the math before considering the smaller display is in portrait instead of landscape. here is the output from xrandr: $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3840 x 1440, maximum 16384 x 16384 DVI-I-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-I-1 connected 1024x1280+2560+0 left (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 376mm x 301mm panning 1280x1280+2560+0 tracking 3840x1440+0+0 border 0/0/0/0 -1280x1024 60.02*+ 75.02 -1280x960 60.00 -1152x864 75.00 -1024x768 75.0370.0760.00 -800x600 75.0072.1960.3256.25 -640x480 75.0072.8159.94 + 1280x1024 60.02*+ 75.02 + 1280x960 60.00 + 1152x864 75.00 + 1024x768 75.0370.0760.00 + 800x600 75.0072.1960.3256.25 + 640x480 75.0072.8159.94 HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-4 connected primary 2560x1440+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 597mm x 336mm panning 2816x1440+0+0 tracking 3840x1440+0+0 border 0/0/0/0 -2560x1440 59.95*+ -2048x1152 60.00 -1920x1200 59.88 -1920x1080 60.0059.9450.0029.9725.0023.98 -1680x1050 59.95 -1600x1200 60.00 -1280x1024 75.0260.02 -1280x720 60.0059.9450.00 -1200x960 59.90 -1152x864 75.00 -1024x768 75.0360.00 -800x600 75.0060.32 -720x576 50.00 -720x480 59.94 -640x480 75.0059.9459.93 + 2560x1440 59.95*+ + 2048x1152 60.00 + 1920x1200 59.88 + 1920x1080 60.0059.9450.0029.9725.0023.98 + 1680x1050 59.95 + 1600x1200 60.00 + 1280x1024 75.0260.02 + 1280x720 60.0059.9450.00 + 1200x960 59.90 + 1152x864 75.00 + 1024x768 75.0360.00 + 800x600 75.0060.32 + 720x576 50.00 + 720x480 59.94 + 640x480 75.0059.9459.93 DP-5 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-29.33-generic 5.4.30 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair nvidia_modeset nvidia wl .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/:01:00.0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.version: - NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 390.132 Fri Nov 1 00:40:14 PDT 2019 - GCC version: gcc version 9.3.0 (Ubuntu 9.3.0-10ubuntu2) + NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 390.132 Fri Nov 1 00:40:14 PDT 2019 + GCC version: gcc version 9.3.0 (Ubuntu 9.3.0-10ubuntu2) ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun May 17 20:35:03 2020 DistUpgraded: 2020-04-24 00:21:43,329 DEBUG Running PostInstallScript: './xorg_fix_proprietary.py' DistroCodename: focal DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: - NVIDIA Corporation GM200 [GeForce GTX 980 Ti] [10de:17c8] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) -Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. I tried with a TV of my room and same. The funny part is when I start the laptop to work, I can see the logo of my BIOS and the ASUS logo in the second monitor, even the grub, but after that I can't see nothing. When I reduce the resolution of the second monitor (800x600) then works, but even with that sometimes blinks to black again. [Bug 1879209] [NEW] Display settings configures dual display resolution incorrectly
Public bug reported: I have two displays side-by-side: one that is 2560x1440 in landscape and a second that is 1280x1024 in portrait. In earlier versions of Ubuntu (definitely in 19.04 and 19.10) I was able to configure this using Display Settings in the default windowing environment. After upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 it seems Display Settings is computing an incorrect horizontal resolution for the combined display. This results in a display that is too wide for the monitors that pans when I mouse toward the edges. xrandr is reporting that it's trying to make a display that is 3840x1440 (2560+1280) instead of 3584x1440 (2560+1024), so I assume something is doing the math before considering the smaller display is in portrait instead of landscape. here is the output from xrandr: $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3840 x 1440, maximum 16384 x 16384 DVI-I-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-I-1 connected 1024x1280+2560+0 left (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 376mm x 301mm panning 1280x1280+2560+0 tracking 3840x1440+0+0 border 0/0/0/0 1280x1024 60.02*+ 75.02 1280x960 60.00 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.0370.0760.00 800x600 75.0072.1960.3256.25 640x480 75.0072.8159.94 HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-4 connected primary 2560x1440+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 597mm x 336mm panning 2816x1440+0+0 tracking 3840x1440+0+0 border 0/0/0/0 2560x1440 59.95*+ 2048x1152 60.00 1920x1200 59.88 1920x1080 60.0059.9450.0029.9725.0023.98 1680x1050 59.95 1600x1200 60.00 1280x1024 75.0260.02 1280x720 60.0059.9450.00 1200x960 59.90 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.0360.00 800x600 75.0060.32 720x576 50.00 720x480 59.94 640x480 75.0059.9459.93 DP-5 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-29.33-generic 5.4.30 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair nvidia_modeset nvidia wl .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/:01:00.0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 390.132 Fri Nov 1 00:40:14 PDT 2019 GCC version: gcc version 9.3.0 (Ubuntu 9.3.0-10ubuntu2) ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun May 17 20:35:03 2020 DistUpgraded: 2020-04-24 00:21:43,329 DEBUG Running PostInstallScript: './xorg_fix_proprietary.py' DistroCodename: focal DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GM200 [GeForce GTX 980 Ti] [10de:17c8] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. [Bug 1879201] [NEW] System Hangs when switching from one User to another
Public bug reported: Dear Sirs, I have been using Bionic Beaver for a little while and I find it seems to Hang a lot more than my previous version Trusty Tahr. Normally these Hangs occur when switching between different users. In this case, that was exactly what happened. 1. I had my Normal User Id up and running. 2. I switched over to another Id in order to bring up my Server. 3. I then attempted to switch back to my normal id by pressing CTRL + ALT + F1 to get to the screen that gives the list of Users that are on your system. This did not work 4. I then pressed CTRL + ALT + F2 which did get me back to the Normal user Id Screen. 5. At that point the System appeared to have hung. The mouse would move around but nothing responded on the Screen to either a Mouse Click or any Key presses. For example when I pressed CTRL + ALT + "T" The Terminal window would NOT come up. I used the SysrRq - Magic Key combination to get the following information ALT + PrtScrn, ALT + CREISUB The system re-booted and gave me the usual files in /var/crash I used the crash program with the Symbols file and in the backtrace section under the exception line it says: exception RIP mwait_idle+132 in the disassembly of mwait_idle, the line at +132 is: mov%gs:0x7a174cb4(%rip),%r12d# 0x10350 Any information that I can supply to you I will be glad to in order to aid you in solving this problem. I'm computer literate and so I can follow any directions that you want to give to me. If you have some commands or Options that you want me to try at Boot time, I will be happy to oblige. [Bug 1879200] [NEW] causes issues with kernel exfat support in 20.04
Public bug reported: I have a main storage partition I use to share data between an Ubuntu Budgie 20.04 installation and a Windows 10 one. Windows has it's own partition, and Ubuntu has one for / and one for /home. >From a fresh install exfat drives and partitions mount without issue. However I recently needed to format a disk in exfat; Gparted doesn't support this but both Gnome Disks and KDE Partition Manager do if the exfat-utils package is installed. So I installed it (via apt) and the dependency exfat-fuse was installed as well and Gnome Disks worked as expected. But when I went to mount the disk it was identified as using the fuse driver (is that the right term?) not the kernel support. I thought this was a bit weird. I uninstalled exfat-utils and exft-fuse, and then mounting worked as expected again not giving me a message about the fuse version. To test a bit I installed the packages again this morning, but this time I just kept getting an error about mount failure and I (with my limited knowledge) couldn't mount the drive. This time I only uninstalled exfat- fuse (which is allowed by apt apparently). Now everything is working, I can mount exfat partitions and drives and format them too. Doing some simple benchmarking the exfat kernel support is as fast as ext4 on the same drive (SSD), so it seems silly that the exfat-fuse would be prioritized over the kernel support. My experience with 18.04 was that exfat-fuse was significantly slower than an ext4 partition, but I cannot at the moment test such on 20.04. My simple reading of the situation is that exfat-fuse is not a required dependency for exfat-utils on 20.04 as once removed everything still seems to work. and fyi: I also asked about this on Ask Ubuntu: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1240408/20-04-and-exfat ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: exfat-fuse (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-29.33-generic 5.4.30 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: Budgie:GNOME Date: Sun May 17 16:19:32 2020 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-05-10 (7 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Budgie 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) SourcePackage: fuse-exfat UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: fuse-exfat (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug exfat focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879200 Title: causes issues with kernel exfat support in 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fuse-exfat/+bug/1879200/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

On the host, I created a file (in emacs) that was in no way special (single line text file): james@malefic:~/projects/ethq/deb$ stat ethq-0.6.1~git2020517/debian/ethq.install File: ethq-0.6.1~git2020517/debian/ethq.install Size: 15 Blocks: 8 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: fd01h/64769dInode: 7085913 Links: 1 Access: (0664/-rw-rw-r--) Uid: ( 1000/ james) Gid: ( 1000/ james) Access: 2020-05-17 22:48:36.274528130 +0100 Modify: 2020-05-17 22:37:17.676232019 +0100 Change: 2020-05-17 22:37:17.676232019 +0100 Birth: - james@malefic:~/projects/ethq/deb$ stat ethq-0.6.1~git2020517/debian/rules But in the container, I saw this: ubuntu@ethq-build:~/ethq/deb/ethq-0.6.1~git2020517$ ls -l debian/ ls: cannot access 'debian/ethq.install': No such file or directory total 20 -rw-rw-r-- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 150 May 17 21:25 changelog -rw-r--r-- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 2 May 17 21:36 compat -rw-rw-r-- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 514 May 17 21:14 control -rw-rw-r-- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 720 May 17 21:20 copyright -? ? ? ??? ethq.install -rwxr-xr-x 1 ubuntu ubuntu 30 May 17 21:35 rules ubuntu@ethq-build:~/ethq/deb/ethq-0.6.1~git2020517$ stat debian/ethq.install stat: cannot stat 'debian/ethq.install': No such file or directory ubuntu@ethq-build:~/ethq/deb/ethq-0.6.1~git2020517$ On a suggestion from Stephane Graber, I tried running: echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches Which seemed to resolve the problem: ubuntu@ethq-build:~/ethq/deb/ethq-0.6.1~git2020517$ stat debian/ethq.install File: 'debian/ethq.install' Size: 15 Blocks: 8 IO Block: 4096 regular file Device: fd01h/64769dInode: 7085913 Links: 1 Access: (0664/-rw-rw-r--) Uid: ( 1000/ ubuntu) Gid: ( 1000/ ubuntu) Access: 2020-05-17 21:48:36.274528130 + Modify: 2020-05-17 21:37:17.676232019 + Change: 2020-05-17 21:37:17.676232019 + Birth: - ubuntu@ethq-build:~/ethq/deb/ethq-0.6.1~git2020517$ ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1879196 Title: 'shifted' (shiftfs) FS mount became inconsistent with host FS; resolved by dropping caches To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1879196/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1841316] Re: gnome-shell freezes a few seconds using kernel 5.0.0 - Window manager warning: last_user_time is greater than comparison timestamp (but kernel 4.15 works)
I am experiencing this same issue with a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 when I select wayland to log in to my desktop. It's triggering by typing. This most likely represents a buggy client sending inaccurate timestamps in messages such as _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW. Trying to work around... May 16 12:19:30 kumamoto gnome-shell[3342]: Window manager warning: W24 appears to be one of the offending windows with a timestamp of 1908107. Working around... This ONLY happens in wayland. [Bug 1829625] Re: Vagrant box startup timeout due to no serial port
I suspect the partyline is that cloudimage shall support serial console come hell or high water. If that's the case, as an alternative to modifying cloudimage to suite vagrant, it might make sense to petition vagrant to provide a sensible default for the serial console to suit cloudimage. I ran into this with vagrant 2.2.9 and Ubuntu focal64. If the cloudimage team can enlighten us about the rationale for requesting ttyS0 I'll be happy to do the legwork with vagrant. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1829625 Title: Vagrant box startup timeout due to no serial port To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-images/+bug/1829625/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1781637] Re: numpy not included with blender package
Numpy is simply a package that enhances Blender, but is not required for the core functionality of the application. Additionally, the official way to install Numpy in 20.04 and later is: sudo apt install python3-numpy which should give you what you need. However, this functionality is not required for all people, so in an effort to keep installations minimal, this is something that will not be changed. ** Changed in: blender (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781637 Title: numpy not included with blender package To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/blender/+bug/1781637/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
