Found the problem. I had an old copy of libarchive in /usr/local/lib which I
assume pointed

[Bug 1879239] [NEW] cmake requires libnettle6 and libnettle7

2020-05-17 Thread Bill Danielson
Public bug reported:

Upgraded from 19.10 to 20.04.

When I run cmake I get error:

cmake: error while loading shared libraries: libnettle.so.6: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

ldd shows it wants BOTH libnettle6 and libnettle7. libnettle6 isn't in
20.04 release.

brd@brd:~$ ldd /usr/bin/cmake | grep libnettle
libnettle.so.6 => not found
libnettle.so.7 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnettle.so.7
(0x7fcf4d374000)

Tried reinstalling cmake and libnettle.

cmake is version 3.16.3-1ubuntu1

[Bug 1879231] Re: avahi dbus permissions for Ping method need updating

2020-05-17 Thread Paul Collins
Ah, but the denied message is a send, not a receive, so that's not it
(tested locally with a hacked snapd).

I took a look at the generated profile and it expanded to this:

 692 dbus (send)
 693 bus=system
 694 path=/
 695 interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer
 696 member=Ping
 697
peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Avahi,label="{unconfined,/usr/sbin/avahi-daemon}"),

but in the logging I'm seeing peer_label="avahi-daemon".

[Bug 1879233] [NEW] Missing man pages Linux capabilities, exec(3)

2020-05-17 Thread Douglas Moyes
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 is missing some dev man pages:

Section 3:
exec

cap_clear
cap_copy_ext
cap_from_text
cap_get_file
cap_get_proc
cap_init
capgetp
libcap

Section 8:

capsetp
filecap
getcap
netcap
pscap

I'm sure there are plenty of other missing man pages, but these were in
earlier releases. Manpages are important as they are typically far more
current that what you'll get from web search results.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)

2020-05-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's not a helpful comment.

Many of us actually have never encountered this bug so to say "whole
distro is useless for serious production use" is grossly inaccurate. And even
those who do encounter this bug would not say it makes Ubuntu "useless".

Please only comment if you have productive, useful, information to add.
And if you continue to experience any problems please report them by
opening a new bug with the command:

  ubuntu-bug mutter

and/or reporting them to the developers at:

[Bug 1879231] [NEW] avahi dbus permissions for Ping method need updating

2020-05-17 Thread Paul Collins
Public bug reported:

I've been working on snapping an app (shairport-sync) that uses Avahi.
Currently on startup it's logging the following in the system logs, and
is not showing up in avahi-browse:

type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589774287.950:1675435): pid=1759 uid=102
auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="DENIED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/"
interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer" member="Ping" mask="send"
name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3965241 label="snap.shairport-sync
.shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-daemon"
exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?'

I see the following in avahi_observe.go:

dbus (receive)
bus=system
path=/
interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer
member=Ping
peer=(label=###PLUG_SECURITY_TAGS###),

Other rules seem to be of this form:

peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Avahi,label=###SLOT_SECURITY_TAGS###),

and as you can see above the denied message has
name="org.freedesktop.Avahi".

As an experiment I reinstalled my snap in devmode and got the following:

type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589775249.321:1676149): pid=1759 uid=102
auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="ALLOWED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/"
interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer" member="Ping" mask="send"
name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3988011 label="snap.shairport-sync
.shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-daemon"
exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?'

followed by lots of other happy-looking messages, e.g.:

type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589775249.321:1676150): pid=1759 uid=102
auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="ALLOWED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/"
interface="org.freedesktop.Avahi.Server" member="GetAPIVersion"
mask="send" name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3988011 label="snap
.shairport-sync.shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-
daemon"  exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=?
terminal=?'

and my machine appeared in avahi-browse and was visible to my other mDNS
devices.

Given all this I suspect the rule for Ping above is too restrictive and
should be loosened to allow the denied message above.

For reference, here's the full devmode trace:

** Affects: snapd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

  I've been working on snapping an app (shairport-sync) that uses Avahi.
  Currently on startup it's logging the following in the system logs, and
  is not showing up in avahi-browse:

  type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589774287.950:1675435): pid=1759 uid=102

  .shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-daemon"
  exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?'

  I see the following in avahi_observe.go:

- dbus (receive)
- bus=system
- path=/
- interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer
- member=Ping
- peer=(label=###PLUG_SECURITY_TAGS###),
+ dbus (receive)
+ bus=system
+ path=/
+ interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer
+ member=Ping
+ peer=(label=###PLUG_SECURITY_TAGS###),

  Other rules seem to be of this form:

  peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Avahi,label=###SLOT_SECURITY_TAGS###),

  and as you can see above the denied message has
  name="org.freedesktop.Avahi".

  As an experiment I reinstalled my snap in devmode and got the following:

Re: [Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)

2020-05-17 Thread Heikki Moisander
If there is a possibility that copy-paste will result to an error, whole
distro is useless for serious production use.
It is really sad, testing this kind of bug is so uncertain and difficult.
In my opinion programmer should be able to guarantee that such error can
not take place. Otherwise there are something fundamentally wrong in
design.

Sorry, I am a big fan of Ubuntu and would like to see open source success
in office environment, but this bug seems a show stopper for me if
community is incapable of fixing it 100%.

[Bug 1876587] Re: Dolphin fails to connect to NAS

2020-05-17 Thread TD Meadors
I was able to get the connection to the NAS working again by adding the
following line to the [global] section of /etc/samba/smb.conf

client min protocol = NT1

I am not sure if I have added any security problems, but at least I can
access my NAS now. So you know I have a Buffalo LinkStation LS-QL.

I am not the only person with this problem. I have come across several
posts about this subject. I am trying to get the others to come to this
report and add their input.

Yeah even if this is a partial fix, it sounds like an improvement.

Let's try to release this fix and then the first person still having
problems after it's released can open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug mutter

But please don't do that yet. We want to be sure about which version
gets promoted from 'proposed' to 'updates' first.

2020-05-17 Thread Adam Dingle
Once again I am the original reporter - Daniel recently asked for my
opinion about whether this bug has been fixed.

I have now been running with the proposed 3.36.2-1ubuntu1~20.04.1
package for three days, during which I have done a fair amount of
editing with copying and pasting. During that time I saw this
copy/paste bug occur twice: once on 5/16 when I couldn't copy and paste
from Epiphany (a web browser) to gedit, and once on 5/17 when I couldn't
copy and paste from a LibreOffice Writer window into another LibreOffice
Writer window.

My opinion is that the proposed fix is a definite improvement, because I
am sure that without it I would have seen more copy/paste failures these
last few days. However I believe that the bug is still not completely
fixed.

[Bug 1879229] [NEW] pulseaudio/audio-playback are difficult to use

2020-05-17 Thread Paul Collins
Public bug reported:

In order for a snap to successfully connect to PulseAudio, the following
needs to be done:

1) request and connect one of pulseaudio or audio-playback (mentioned for
completeness)
2) add ${SNAP}/usr/lib/$SNAPCRAFT_ARCH_TRIPLET/pulseaudio to LD_LIBRARY_PATH
3) point libpulse at the pulseaudio socket, e.g., in a wrapper:

papath="$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/../pulse/native"
if [ ! -e "$papath" ]; then
echo "Cannot not find '$papath'"
exit 1
fi
export PULSE_SERVER="unix:$papath"

(I got this from tests/lib/snaps/test-snapd-pulseaudio/files/bin/pawrap
in the snapd source, which seems to imply this is how it's designed to
work.)

Steps 2 and 3 seem like they should be handled by some part of the
system, if not necessarily snapd, and not left to the snapper to
discover for themselves.

There is no need to reinstall. You won't get a fix any faster that way.

[Bug 1879209] Re: Display settings configures dual display resolution incorrectly

2020-05-17 Thread Chris Anderson
** Description changed:

  I have two displays side-by-side: one that is 2560x1440 in landscape and
  a second that is 1280x1024 in portrait. In earlier versions of Ubuntu
- (definitely in 19.04 and 19.10) I was able to configure this using
+ (definitely in 18.04 and 19.10) I was able to configure this using
  Display Settings in the default windowing environment.

  After upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 it seems Display Settings is computing
  an incorrect horizontal resolution for the combined display. This
  results in a display that is too wide for the monitors that pans when I
  mouse toward the edges.

  xrandr is reporting that it's trying to make a display that is 3840x1440
  (2560+1280) instead of 3584x1440 (2560+1024), so I assume something is
  doing the math before considering the smaller display is in portrait
  instead of landscape.

  here is the output from xrandr:

[Bug 1874010] Re: [Ice Lake] 2-second black screen blips when using Chrome or gnome-screenshot

2020-05-17 Thread Christopher Chafin
I have the same exact problem, on Kubuntu 20.04 with Dell XPS 13 9300,
using another kernel does fix it, but I have no wifi as a result and
couldn't seem to solve that myself.

[Bug 1553669] Re: Annoying "call from" message when connecting Bose devices

2020-05-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As suggested in comment #8, please try disabling voice prompts. That
seems to work on a variety of Bose devices:

  https://www.bose.com/en_us/support/article/disabling-voice-prompts-
soundlink-mini-ii.html

If you would like to discuss the problem further then it would probably
be best to report it to the developers here:

  PulseAudio: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/groups/pulseaudio/-/issues

No one has yet(?)

20.04?

** Description changed:

- I installed Ubuntu 20.04 with propietary drivers of Nvidia (I have 440.64 rn)
and I connected a second monitor to use it, but I saw that I cannot use it, I
just see a blank screen. I tried with a TV of my room and same. The funny part
is when I start the laptop to work, I can see the logo of my BIOS and the ASUS
logo in the second monitor, even the grub, but after that I can't see nothing.
+ I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my ASUS laptop with Intel+Nvidia with propietary
drivers of Nvidia (I have 440.64 rn) and I connected a second monitor to use

TV of my room and same. The funny part is when I start the laptop to work, I
can see the logo of my BIOS and the ASUS logo in the second monitor, even the
grub, but after that I can't see nothing.
  When I reduce the resolution of the second monitor (800x600) then works, but
even with that sometimes blinks to black again.
  On W10 for example it works perfectly, so I deduce it's not 'cause my HDMI.

  I tried with noveau drivers and I have the same results btw.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-05-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like a good workaround. That's what the Randr fractional scaling
patch is *meant* to do.

I think you can hack/script those same settings with:

  xrandr --fb WIDTHxHEIGHT

or

  xrandr --output OUTPUT --scale-from WIDTHxHEIGHT

[Bug 1867421] Re: Microsoft Classic IntelliMouse moves way too fast

2020-05-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The recommended way for doing that is changing the mouse speed in your
control panel/settings/whatever GUI.

For example, in Ubuntu 20.04 it is:

  Settings > Mouse & Touchpad > Mouse > Mouse Speed

Another option you might like is:

  gnome-tweaks > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse > Acceleration Profile = Flat

[Bug 1879209] [NEW] Display settings configures dual display resolution incorrectly

2020-05-17 Thread Chris Anderson
Public bug reported:

I have two displays side-by-side: one that is 2560x1440 in landscape and
a second that is 1280x1024 in portrait. In earlier versions of Ubuntu
(definitely in 19.04 and 19.10) I was able to configure this using
Display Settings in the default windowing environment.

$ xrandr

HW acceleration doesn't work for me in the latest build. I noted that
Olivier was going to build with a newer version of libva so I went ahead
an installed the latest version, as per this guide:
https://github.com/intel/media-driver/wiki/How-to-build-and-use-media-

see kVideoDecoderName="VpxVideoDecoder"

[Bug 1879201] [NEW] System Hangs when switching from one User to another

2020-05-17 Thread Frank Krauss
Public bug reported:

Dear Sirs,
I have been using Bionic Beaver for a little while and I find it
seems to Hang a lot more than my previous version Trusty Tahr.
Normally these Hangs occur when switching between different users.

In this case, that was exactly what happened.

1. I had my Normal User Id up and running.
2. I switched over to another Id in order to bring up my Server.
3. I then attempted to switch back to my normal id by pressing
CTRL + ALT + F1 to get to the screen that gives the list
of Users that are on your system.
This did not work
4. I then pressed CTRL + ALT + F2 which did get me back to the
  Normal user Id Screen.
5. At that point the System appeared to have hung.
   The mouse would move around but nothing responded on the Screen
  to either a Mouse Click or any Key presses.
   For example when I pressed CTRL + ALT + "T" The Terminal window
would NOT come up.
I used the SysrRq - Magic Key combination to get the following information
ALT + PrtScrn, ALT + CREISUB
The system re-booted and gave me the usual files in /var/crash
I used the crash program with the Symbols file and in the backtrace section
   under the exception line it says:
   exception RIP mwait_idle+132
   in the disassembly of mwait_idle, the line at +132 is:
 mov%gs:0x7a174cb4(%rip),%r12d# 0x10350
Any information that I can supply to you I will be glad to in order to
aid you in solving this problem.
I'm computer literate and so I can follow any directions that
you want to give to me.
If you have some commands or Options that you want me to try
at Boot time, I will be happy to oblige.
I have a System with at least three (3) Users on at all times
and I have to be able to shift between them consistantely without
worrying that the process will hang up the System.
Yours truly,
Frank Krauss

[Bug 1879141] Re: Broken upgrade from 18.04 to 19.04

2020-05-17 Thread Steve Langasek
The cryptsetup in Ubuntu 19.10 package Recommends: cryptsetup-initramfs,
so it should have been automatically installed for you on upgrade. What
packages did you have installed on 18.04 prior to upgrade, and how did
you upgrade?

[Bug 1879199] [NEW] Duplicate images - greybird.svg and Xubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa Wallpaper

2020-05-17 Thread Joshua Peisach
Public bug reported:

Greybird.svg-same image is found four times, three in

The file and the xubuntu 20.04 Focal Wallpaper show twice-and i think
this is probably why as there is conflicting copies of wallpapers that
show by accident.

[Bug 1879200] [NEW] causes issues with kernel exfat support in 20.04

2020-05-17 Thread Evan
Public bug reported:

I have a main storage partition I use to share data between an Ubuntu
Budgie 20.04 installation and a Windows 10 one. Windows has it's own
partition, and Ubuntu has one for / and one for /home.

>From a fresh install exfat drives and partitions mount without issue.
However I recently needed to format a disk in exfat; Gparted doesn't
support this but both Gnome Disks and KDE Partition Manager do if the
exfat-utils package is installed. So I installed it (via apt) and the
dependency exfat-fuse was installed as well and Gnome Disks worked as
expected. But when I went to mount the disk it was identified as using
the fuse driver (is that the right term?) not the kernel support.

I thought this was a bit weird. I uninstalled exfat-utils and exft-fuse,
and then mounting worked as expected again not giving me a message about
the fuse version.

To test a bit I installed the packages again this morning, but this time
I just kept getting an error about mount failure and I (with my limited
knowledge) couldn't mount the drive. This time I only uninstalled exfat-
fuse (which is allowed by apt apparently). Now everything is working, I
can mount exfat partitions and drives and format them too.

Doing some simple benchmarking the exfat kernel support is as fast as
ext4 on the same drive (SSD), so it seems silly that the exfat-fuse
would be prioritized over the kernel support. My experience with 18.04
was that exfat-fuse was significantly slower than an ext4 partition, but
I cannot at the moment test such on 20.04.

My simple reading of the situation is that exfat-fuse is not a required
dependency for exfat-utils on 20.04 as once removed everything still
seems to work.

and fyi:
I also asked about this on Ask Ubuntu:

[Bug 1872313] Re: elementary xfce darkest icon theme missing cache file

2020-05-17 Thread Joshua Peisach
The theme is missing cache files-I think through XFCE Startup or in the
package's postinstall script you need to execute the command as said in
the notification error triangle message thing:

"Warning: this icon theme has no cache file. You can create this by
running gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/elementary-xfce-darkest
in a terminal emulator.

TL;DR: add a postinst script to execute that command
gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/elementary-xfce-darkest

[Bug 1879196] [NEW] 'shifted' (shiftfs) FS mount became inconsistent with host FS; resolved by dropping caches

2020-05-17 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 20.04 with linux-image-5.4.0-30-generic from the Canonical
Kernel Team's proposed PPA, I ran into the following problem with
using a shiftfs 'shifted' ext4 FS mount inside a LXD container.

On the host, I created a file (in emacs) that was in no way special
(single line text file):

 james@malefic:~/projects/ethq/deb$ stat

 james@malefic:~/projects/ethq/deb$ stat ethq-0.6.1~git2020517/debian/rules

But in the container, I saw this:

ubuntu@ethq-build:~/ethq/deb/ethq-0.6.1~git2020517$ ls -l debian/
ls: cannot access 'debian/ethq.install': No such file or directory

client:

Failed: Server: Fatal error during unmarshaling (input_value: ill-formed

possibly because client and server have been compiled with differentversions of
the OCaml compiler.

It worked before (Client was Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10)

This is a real show-stopper. It's not possible to fix this with a new
protocol version?

[Bug 1841316] Re: gnome-shell freezes a few seconds using kernel 5.0.0 - Window manager warning: last_user_time is greater than comparison timestamp (but kernel 4.15 works)

2020-05-17 Thread Jeff
I am experiencing this same issue with a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04
when I select wayland to log in to my desktop. It's triggering by
typing. Every few seconds, the system will pause slightly before
registering my keypress. It makes basic typing very frustrating.

Linux kumamoto 5.4.0-29-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 29 14:32:27 UTC
2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

If I open only the "Text Editor" program and start typing into it, with
no other applications open, and I open a terminal window with "tail -f
/var/log/syslog", I see these entries every few seconds:

May 16 12:19:30 kumamoto gnome-shell[3342]: Window manager warning:
last_user_time (1908107) is greater than comparison timestamp (1907948). This
most likely represents a buggy client sending inaccurate timestamps in messages
such as _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW. Trying to work around...
May 16 12:19:30 kumamoto gnome-shell[3342]: Window manager warning: W24 appears
to be one of the offending windows with a timestamp of 1908107. Working
around...

This ONLY happens in wayland. It doesn't happen if I use the regular X
server.

[Bug 1829625] Re: Vagrant box startup timeout due to no serial port

2020-05-17 Thread Bert Driehuis
I suspect the partyline is that cloudimage shall support serial console
come hell or high water. If that's the case, as an alternative to
modifying cloudimage to suite vagrant, it might make sense to petition
vagrant to provide a sensible default for the serial console to suit
cloudimage.

I ran into this with vagrant 2.2.9 and Ubuntu focal64.

If the cloudimage team can enlighten us about the rationale for
requesting ttyS0 I'll be happy to do the legwork with vagrant.

[Bug 1781637] Re: numpy not included with blender package

2020-05-17 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Numpy is simply a package that enhances Blender, but is not required for
the core functionality of the application. Additionally, the official
way to install Numpy in 20.04 and later is:

sudo apt install python3-numpy

which should give you what you need. However, this functionality is not
required for all people, so in an effort to keep installations minimal,
this is something that will not be changed.
