[Bug 1860826] Re: pam_unix(sudo:auth): Couldn't open /etc/securetty: No such file or directory
Hi, just to confirm that this may be a bigger issue than first anticipated - on Ubuntu Server 20.04 this is causing issues with logins via sftp/ftp. Because of this, the migration of a number of our servers has had to be halted until this bug has been completed. Copy-pasting the Securetty file could be an option, but a more permanent solution is preferred. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860826 Title: pam_unix(sudo:auth): Couldn't open /etc/securetty: No such file or directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pam/+bug/1860826/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1898083] Re: emacs snap has many errors on startup
This is a known issue - https://github.com/alexmurray/emacs- snap/issues/10 - unfortunately the nature of classic snaps and fontconfig means there will always be incompatibilities between the fontconfig library packaged in the snap and the hosts fontconfig configuration. These are harmless however, so perhaps the best option would be to make the snap filter these as suggested in https://github.com/alexmurray/emacs- snap/issues/10#issuecomment-621905676 ** Bug watch added: github.com/alexmurray/emacs-snap/issues #10 https://github.com/alexmurray/emacs-snap/issues/10 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1898083 Title: emacs snap has many errors on startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs/+bug/1898083/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

What I talked about is interactions between window and screen edges/bounds themselves. When I drag a window it sticks to another window edge until I've moved my cursor further away (like ~20 pixels) only then the window releases and continues to be dragged by the mouse. Or another example: when I want to place the half of my window outside the screen I start dragging it and when the edge of the window hits the edge of the screen it stops even I continue dragging, after ~20 pixel away the window releases and continues following my cursor. The option "edge-tiling" provides interaction only between window and screen bounds with resizing and tiling them. [Bug 1901634] [NEW] The effects of anacron cannot be disabled
Public bug reported: If anacron is installed its effects *cannot* be disabled. You can run: systemctl disable anacron anacron.timer but that will not help. That stops anacron running, but it does *not* prevent the run-parts entries in /etc/crontab from running, as they only check for the presence of /usr/sbin/anacron, *not* whether anacron is actually enabled. The test should really be something like: systemctl -q is-enabled anacron (although that still prints an error message if anacron isn't installed - despite the -q. Errors, even intended ones, seem to be unavoidable). The result is that if you have a desktop system that is permanently on, you need to remove anacron - but the next dist-update will put it back in place. [Bug 1901633] [NEW] GRUB doesn't load/save values when a submenu entry is used
Public bug reported: It appears that GRUB in focal (2.04-1ubuntu26.6) doesn't load or save values to grubenv when using entries that are under a submenu. This is similar to LP #1816633 For context, this issue arose using the latest focal cloud image (https ://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/focal/current/focal-server-cloudimg- amd64.img). I attempted to set GRUB_DEFAULT to "1>0" to boot the first entry of the "Advanced options for Ubuntu" submenu as a test for booting a specific kernel version. This resulted in a boot loop where the first entry in the submenu was booted, the kernel panics, and restarts. Using GRUB_DEFAULT=0 results in a boot > panic > boot > success. This is similar to LP #1870189. >From LP #1870189, cloud images set the GRUB_FORCE_PARTUUID variable in /etc/default/grub.d/40-force-partuuid.cfg. This results in menu entries that use a if/else structure to attempt initrd-less boot before falling back to booting with an initrd. The if/else structure uses a GRUB variable called initrdfail (and I believe recordfail) to note whether the initrd-less boot worked. Note that unsetting GRUB_FORCE_PARTUUID works around my issue, since the if/else logic that uses the initrdfail variable is only placed in the grub.cfg when GRUB_FORCE_PARTUUID is set. However, I tried using custom menuentries in grub.cfg to show the variables' state in an attempt to determine why this didn't work with GRUB_FORCE_PARTUUID set. I will attach it to this bug. This showed that the submenu menuentries didn't set or use the variables, specifically initrdfail and recordfail. The first entry, before the "Advanced options..." submenu, did set the variables, and would use them. However, using that first entry (by booting it once, getting the kernel panic and restarting) to set initrdfail to "1" didn't work. The submenu menuentries booted as though the value was unset. I tested this by manually selecting boot entries and observing the values printed by my custom menuentries. I expected that the submenu menuentries would use the values and would set them appropriately. ** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901633 Title: GRUB doesn't load/save values when a submenu entry is used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1901633/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1900777] Re: [amdgpu] Screen freeze
Thanks Daniel, and I will continue posting the prevboot files to see if there is something that we can pinpoint. As for the amdgpu drivers, those were not automatically detected when I installed ubuntu (that is, if I go to the additional drivers, only the wifi chip is detected and not the graphics displays that were needed to be installed). So I went to the AMD site and downloaded them myself. This was needed, as without them I could not attach external monitors, control the display, etc. I imagine uninstalling these things would result in the same problem. Thoughts? If not, I will continue to post the prevboot in the future. [Bug 1901632] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Blueberry
Public bug reported: [needs-packaging] Blueberry Blueberry is a frontend for Bluetooth support, originating downstream in Mint - it's a much simpler to use and more attractive looking software than Blueman and others - it's the "Simple Scan" to Blueman's "xsane" - it would benefit Xfce and probably MATE as well - to have this as either default or just as option. Public bug reported: This has not happened for me before. Usually the screen will show fine after I log in, but now I have to drag my cursor into the darkness of the problematic screen and make it dance until the signal is picked up. Potentially related: I recently tried to make a guest account with no password required. I set a temporary password and then executed something like `sudo passwd -d guest`. [Bug 1901623] [NEW] Add language-support packages for input without translations
Public bug reported: Ubuntu has packages of the form `language-pack-xx` for language support. However, these install translations for software, not just reading/writing support for the language. For multilingual people who have no need or desire for software translations and locale customizations, but who do want support for displaying and inputting additional languages, it would be really nice to again have `language- input-xx` packages that only install the fonts, input methods, and dictionaries and don't install full localization of the system.
